Title: A Taste of Tragedy
Author: Kim McMahill
Genre: Romantic Suspense, Medical Suspense
Morgan Hunter sacrificed everything for her career. She had yet to encounter anything she wasn’t willing to do to succeed…until now. When she uncovers evidence that the healthy foods she’s been hired to promote may be dangerous, she must re-evaluate her priorities. As questions mount and the body count rises, she finds herself caught in the crosshairs of an organization that will stop at nothing to hide its secrets and protect its profits. With no one else to trust, Morgan is forced to seek help from the man she drove away, but whom she never stopped loving.
Morgan Hunter has worked hard to get where she is today and nothing, not even her crumbling marriage, is going to deter her from success. But when her life is in danger, who will she turn to?
Morgan just accepted a high-paying job at one of the leading healthy food manufacturing companies in America. Her predecessor left unexpectedly and when she discovers a hidden zip drive with incriminating evidence, she starts investigating. She confronts her boss, a lecherous man obsessed with “getting to know her better”, but isn’t satisfied with his responses about the safety of the food. Something isn’t right and she senses someone may be following her so she contacts her ex-husband in the hope that with his contacts, he can help.
But all is not as it seems and we discover the familiar foes from A Dose of Danger (J. R. and Coterie along with my favorite female assassin) are up to their old tricks. The health food industry is not as helpful to the average consumer as it appears and dead bodies are piling up. Morgan Hunter knows too much and it’s up to Nick and Devyn (from the FBI) to not only protect Morgan but to track down the members of Coterie before J. R. eliminates her.
A Taste of Tragedy is book two in the Risky Research series and while it’s a stand-alone, I highly recommend you read A Dose of Danger (book one) to familiarize yourself with the characters.
I must admit, I loved this one even better than book one. The suspense/intrigue is kicked up a few notches, which only made it a better reading experience. The plot was fast-paced, filled with twists and turns I didn’t expect and a handful of menacing characters. The action made my pulse race and at one point, when I received a phone call, I nearly jumped out of my skin. Yes, I was that engrossed in the story.
I loved the interplay between Morgan and her ex-husband, Nick. The fact that even though they were divorced, they still loved each other only added to the depth of the story.
I also found the medical information detailed about the diet industry factual and on point. It made me rethink eating diet frozen entrees ever again.
If you love romantic suspense, you’ve got to read this book! I highly recommend it! I can’t wait to read the next installment in the Risky Research series!!!
My favorite female assassin (she goes by many names) from Coterie. In this book, we got a chance to get to know her and see what motivates her. I know I should be rooting for Morgan or Nick and I love them as characters, but in truth, I’m always drawn to the baddies. She’s more than just a hired gun; she’s the right-hand gal of the head of Coterie. When she has to go in to clean up a mess of one of the members, how she performs for J. R. will result in either accolades or devastating consequences. We haven’t seen the last of her and in my opinion, that’s a good thing. smiles
“She had a clean shot, but this time she was determined to get answers. Dead men couldn’t talk.” ~Devyn
