Title: The Guardian – Book 1 of Mended Souls
Author: Jacquie Biggar
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Lucas Carmichael and Scott Anderson had it all, money, fame, and fortune. But one night’s stupid mistake takes everything they thought they cherished and dumps it upside down.
A car accident ends Lucas’ life and leaves Scott injured and bitter.
As the local ME, Tracy York, investigates the case, discrepancies begin to point to more than a simple drunk driving incident. When threats are made to Tracy’s life can Scott and his guardian angel, Lucas, protect her, or will she become another casualty?
Lucas and Scott are childhood friends and mega-celebrities (think Matt Damon and Ben Affleck). They had everything in the world (money, fame, women, etc.) and yet in one act of stupidity, everything is stripped away. Lucas and Scott’s sister are dead while Scott is hospitalized and has never felt more alone.
Tracy York is your typical medical examiner and she shakes her head at the moronic behavior of the two Hollywood bad boys. Such a senseless act, innocent lives torn from loved ones, pressure from her boss to hush it up and it’s enough to make Tracy rethink her occupation.
Scott takes one look at Tracy and he falls, hard. She’s smart, beautiful and doesn’t fall for his one-liners. Her smile lights up the darkness penetrating his soul and he wonders if there’s a reason to live.
Lucas is up in Heaven, trying to figure out what’s going on, when he meets a very angry man/angel. God has a sense of humor, undoubtedly, and partners up Lucas and the angry man, to make amends, and fix Lucas’ mistake. But all is not what it seems and Lucas has no idea what’s in store for him or what secrets he’ll have to unearth before his guardian angel days are done. He must protect his best-friend, Scott, before it’s too late or all three of them (Lucas, Scott and Tracy) become permanent residents of Heaven.
I loved this book and I flew through this book in two sittings! Paranormal romance is one of my favorite genres and when I heard Jacquie Biggar (Queen of Romantic Suspense) was starting a new PNR series, I jumped at the chance to read it.
Everything from the in-depth characterization to the intricate plot, from the conflict of Lucas to the guilt of Scott to the swoon-worthy romance made this one of the top books of 2016. Jacquie portrayed Heaven (and God) in an original concept which is well-done, considering the amount of books written in this genre. Filled with emotional angst and the allure of making amends, I was touched by all three main characters. I cared instantly for all three and I wished for everyone to be okay at the end. I’m a sucker for a happy ending.
The romance, sexual tension and flirting was fun to read and I could relate to Tracy’s swooning. I mean, it’s not every day a handsome movie star (who you’ve been dreaming about) kisses you until you can’t breathe.
There’s a hook at the very end, which tells me there’s more to come from these three. YAY!
If you love paranormal romance, this is a must-read! Another gem from best-selling author Jacquie Biggar!!!
In truth, it’s a toss-up between Lucas and Scott. I love how they both have to deal with their own grief and moving on. Each man feels like a part of him has died, lost without the other. I love how Lucas looks out for Scott, even in death, and I love how Scott rescues Lucas at the right time. While both are Hollywood bad boys, I fell in love with their hearts right away. They’re more than their stardom; they have substance.
“Sure, no problem. Just hop on the next moonbeam and sayonara. And even if he could figure out how to go back, what was he supposed to do when he got there? This do good crap should come with a manual.” ~ Lucas

I write Romantic Suspense w/Attitude. My heroes are tough, alpha males who know what they want. Until they get gob-smacked by heroines who are strong, contemporary women willing to show them that what they really need is love. I’ve been blessed with a long, happy marriage and enjoy writing romance novels that end with happy-ever-afters.
