Title: Inadvertent Adventures
Author: Loren K. Jones
Genre: Science Fiction, Military, Space Opera
Even in the distant future, humans have remained depressingly human. Shanghaied after he thought his luck had changed for the better, Sterling Stevenson was finding his luck changing in totally unexpected ways. Now called Silver Garand, the navigator of the small trade vessel Jolly Jane, his luck was leading him from one inadvertent adventure to another.
Life is an adventure, even in space.
Stirling Stevenson is a freight pilot who takes cargo from place to place in space. It can be dangerous and there are “pirates” on the high seas of the galaxy, as we see right from the get-go. Stirling discovers a new solar system and it’s up to the Jolly Jane crew to make sure they’re the ones who get credit. Stirling has had his share of bad luck and tragedy but one thing’s for sure: life’s an adventure for Stirling/Silver.
Reminiscent of Deep Space Nine, this science fiction adventure is fast-paced with colorful characters, space travel and a fun read. I loved the “wild-west” feel of outer space and the author kept me entertained.
There were parts that were slow and the ending dragged a bit. I felt like the author didn’t quite know how to end it properly. But all in all, a satisfying read.
If you like space travel with strong female characters, witty dialogue and plenty of action, read this book!
