My Review:

It’s the year 1072 and we’re traveling to a small town (village) in England, courtesy of Carole P. Roman. It’s the Middle Ages (or Medieval) and this period in history lasted for nearly 400 years.

From the structure of society to what your home looked like (as the daughter of a knight in William of Normandy’s army), Roman details what life was like in the Middle Ages. Her description of life ignited my imagination so clearly, I could close my eyes and picture it.

The sections include society, home, food, the church’s influence in everyday life, ale, eating meals (most did not eat until mid-morning), clothing, work, hierarchy of classes and more.

Roman doesn’t leave anything out and I learned so much about the Middle Ages. It was very impressive and the illustrations partner with the words to create a terrific historical book any child will love.

I love this series and again, I wish I had this when I was young because I truly believe I would’ve fallen in love with history instead of ignoring it. Teachers, parents and educators will all find this book on the Middle Ages imperative to the yearly curriculum.

My Rating:  5+ stars
