Title: For Their Sins
Author: R. Tran
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Vampire Romance
Alexandria Diego never wanted to be special. She was content to lay in bed with her lover forever. One decision will change everything. Suddenly, Alexandria is launched into a life of infamy, which carries a heavy burden that only she can bear. When a vicious war between her people, the Venandi, and their rivals, the Mordere, breaks out it forces Alexandria to change her tactics and be more cautious. But, when her love is captured by the enemy, Alexandria risks everything to get him back.
Alexandria Diego, born in 1707 as an angel, is destined to be special but it’s up to her to choose the right path: bear children and continue the lineage of Diego or become a warrior. Starting as a child, she trains and learns the way of the Venandi. She’s a fierce warrior and the leader of her house. The future of the house of Diego rests on her shoulders and it’s a burden that takes its toll on Alexandria. Politics, love, lust and power overcome Alexandria and when her hated rival captures her beloved, war and power fade into the background. All that matters is rescuing him from the blasted vampires. Will Alexandria succeed and get her lover back or will she make the greatest sacrifice of all?
This was a fascinating paranormal romance and one that I enjoyed. Spanning over 300 years, this is both a historical and modern-day tale, rich in supernatural mythology and romance. Plenty of action and treachery, For Their Sins takes the reader deep into the heart of what it means to be a leader in society. Sacrifices need to be made but at what cost?
The vampire and angelic lore intrigued me and Tran writes descriptive narrative with terrific imagery. The reader is swept away, without even realizing it. The plot twists were jarring and I got lost a few times. Romantic interludes were not the main part of the plot, which was original, in my view. Vampires are not “glittering” but gritty, which I enjoyed.
If you’re looking for a sweeping paranormal romance with Game of Thrones undertones, pick up this book today.
Favorite Character/Quote: Alexandria. I really enjoyed reading from her point of view. She has a lot to deal with and yet, she’s a strong heroine with ambitions and drive. She carries the book all on her own.
My Rating: 4 stars

R.Tran is a first-time author who started writing as therapy after losing her father at 16. Her first manuscript was finished 4 years later, but sat around for years gathering dust before she had the courage to let someone read it. Sixteen years and many revisions later, what began as therapy is now a published novel.
Twenty years after her father’s death she has a husband, two children, and a dog he never met.
