Hi, I am Stef Smulders, a Dutch expat living in Italy with husband and doggie since 2008, where we have a bed and breakfast. Even after 10 years I can still hardly believe we did it, packing up our things and … go! Well, there were some nasty surprises along the way we had never expected but we survived. And we are still happy we did it. We love the area where we live, the Oltrepò Pavese wine region, south of Milan in Lombardy. We like the people, most of them at least (exit real estate guy). The food and the wine are fantastic, the landscape still amazes us and the climate, wow, summer sunshine from May till October!

You can read about our expat adventure in my book and on my blog. Or come and visit us! You are always welcome.

Excerpt
“When we bought our home nine months ago it was ready to move into. And now?

We are shipwrecked in the kitchen of the downstairs apartment. A single sheet of plastic between the hall and the sitting room is the only thing that protects us from the heavy dust of the building site. All day, we are assaulted by the sound of workmen shouting, drilling and hammering. A couple of hours ago the electricity cut out and it’s starting to get chilly in here. Every evening we escape upstairs via the dusty, grimy staircase, where we try to find solace by watching TV in our future living room. The living room is also separated by a sheet of plastic from the kitchen, the bedroom and the office. There are gaping holes in the walls in all of these three rooms, made weeks ago in preparation for the doors and a new window. Now they are serving as tunnels bringing in the draught and the cold. Exhausted and numbed from the endless turmoil surrounding us, we are staring out into space in silence. We are hardly aware of what’s on the screen.

“Okay, I concede,” she said.

He smiled inwardly, the rush of victory, conquering a well-matched foe. “I knew I could persuade you.”

Her smile warmed him, he released his body from hers. In a flash, her leg flew up and hit him square in the nads, opened the door behind her, and slipped out by saying, “Brad asked me to do this. So I will do this.”

Through the purple haze of pain, he called out, “Where will you go Andy Baker?” The front door opened. “They’re hunting you,” he called.

The door slammed shut again. He smiled despite the throbbing. He liked her.

Amey Zeigler

Author Bio:

Amey Zeigler wrote her first mystery with her best friend in fourth grade. She wrote, the friend illustrated. It also had a cute boy in it with spiky hair (because that was the style back then). Not much has changed. She loves mysteries. She loves romance. She loves suspense. She loves action, adventure and comedy. But she wants it to have a happy ending.

Because she grew up moving all around the United States, Amey loves writing about different places.  In her books, she explores the whole world.

Growing up, Amey was always trying new things. She played violin, drums, flute, piano, all before she was sixteen. She also discovered she didn’t have much talent for music.

When people asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up, she was afraid to tell them she wanted to be a writer because she didn’t know how to write.

She is so grateful for her Sophomore year Honor’s English teacher who gave her a star and five points (out of five!) for Voice on her personal essay. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have had enough courage to pursue writing.

In her spare time, she adopts stray furniture left on the side of the road, fixes it up and gives it a new look and home. Amey lives with her husband and three children near Austin, TX.

In commemoration of the World War One Centenary…

One hundred years ago, in 1918, the Great War ended after four terrible years. Never had the world seen such a conflict. All touched by its scythe hoped we would never be thusly reaped again. Their hopes were but desperate dreams. Since that first armistice, there have been many more battles, and thousands have given their lives or their health to preserve freedom and escape from tyranny.

A hundred years after the first armistice we still remember and honour those brave souls. But still, the soldiers fall, for the War to End All Wars did not.

British-born Alexandra Butcher (a/k/a  A. L. Butcher) is an avid reader and creator of worlds, a poet, and a dreamer, a lover of science, natural history, history, and monkeys. Her prose has been described as ‘dark and gritty’ and her poetry as evocative.  She writes with a sure and sometimes erotic sensibility of things that might have been, never were, but could be.

Alex is the author of the Light Beyond the Storm Chronicles and the Tales of Erana lyrical fantasy series. She also has several short stories in the fantasy, fantasy romance genres with occasional forays into gothic style horror. With a background in politics, classical studies, ancient history and myth, her affinities bring an eclectic and unique flavour in her work, mixing reality and dream in alchemical proportions that bring her characters and worlds to life.

Meet Aydarr A Badari Warrior from Bestseller @vscotttheauthor’s Brand New Release! #books

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00068]

I’m Aydarr, the alpha or leader of my pack of Badari genetically engineered warriors. We were created by a race of alien scientists to be deployed as super soldiers against the humans in the Sectors. I’m in the eighth generation of Badari and I never had any hope of being able to save my people and escape the labs until I met human Jill Garrison. The new book from Veronica Scott tells our story and is the first in the series describing our tale of battle against our mutual enemies.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Time spent with Jill – we have so few chances to be together without the pressure of decisions to be made for my pack and the other kidnapped human colonists. We’re engaged in a war against the alien enemies and there’s very little downtime.

What is your greatest fear?

I have no fears for myself, but I’d be terrified of Jill falling into the Khagrish hands again. As you’ll find out in the book, she commits acts that make her someone they’d very much like to have revenge on.

What is your current state of mind?

As I mentioned above, thanks to Jill, I’m hopeful my people can defeat the Khagrish, our enemies, and live freely someday as other beings do. I’m determined to gain the ultimate victory.

On what occasion do you lie?

I lie to the Khagrish scientists on any occasion where I can get away with it. They’re cruel and believe my people are less than human because we were engineered in the Khagrish labs, so I owe them nothing, much less the truth. I have to protect my Badari packmates.

What do you most dislike about your appearance?

I have talons and fangs I can deploy, which are a result of the Khagrish experiments with combining DNA from many species. They’re useful weapons of course but also visible reminders that neither I nor any of my people are ‘natural’. Jill says they fascinate her – she’s not the least bit scared of me or my men.

Which living person do you most despise?

Dr. Gahzhing, the chief Khagrish scientist. He had power of life or death over me, my pack and Jill, as well as all the rest of the kidnapped humans. He had no mercy and no sense of right and wrong.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

Jill Garrison, the human woman that the Khagrish kidnapped from her colony and brought to their laboratory planet. We met purely by accident and I bless the day she was placed in the vicinity of my pack. She’s brave, smart and loyal. And not afraid to go toe to toe with me if she disagrees about something!

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I wish we Badari weren’t Khagrish creations but as Jill constantly tells me, we’re as ‘human’ as she is in all the ways that matter. We’re men, we have honor and souls and we deserve to live in peace. Someday!

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Keeping as many of my Badari packmates alive as I could, despite the never ending Khagrish experiments.

What is your most marked characteristic?

As the Badari alpha, I’m dominant to all the others and must be obeyed when I give an order. There is no one who can challenge me successfully, although some have thought about trying it.

What do you most value in your friends?

Loyalty and honesty.

Title AYDARR (A BADARI WARRIOR SCIFI ROMANCE NOVEL): SECTORS NEW ALLIES SERIES BOOK ONE

Author  Veronica Scott

Genre SciFi Romance

Book Blurb:

Jill Garrison, a maintenance tech at the Sectors Amarcae 7 colony, goes to sleep one night as usual only to wake up in her nightgown stranded in the middle of a forest on an unknown world. There’s no time to think as she’s stalked by carnivorous predators and rescued by genetically engineered warriors calling themselves the Badari. Turns out they and she, along with her whole colony, are now prisoners of the Khagrish, a ruthless race of alien scientists. Working for enemies of the Sectors, the Khagrish have created the Badari to be super soldiers.

Aydarr, the Badari alpha, isn’t sure he can trust Jill but his attraction to her is undeniable. He impulsively claims her as his mate to prevent her death at the hands of the Khagrish.

Can he continue to protect her from the experiments already underway?  Will his claiming her put his pack in jeopardy from their alien masters?

As Jill searches for a way to rescue her fellow humans and get them all to safety, she finds herself falling for Aydarr, despite the secrets he’s keeping. She has a few of her own.

The situation becomes dire when Aydarr and his pack are sent offplanet on a mission, leaving Jill unprotected, prey for the senior scientist. Can she escape the experiments he has in mind for her? Will she be able to thwart the Khagrish plans and liberate humans and Badari alike? How will she and Aydarr reunite?

Excerpt – (Jill meets the Khagrish scientists for the first time)

“Are those the Khagrish?” she asked Aydarr as she walked next to him, away from the hill and toward the waiting group.

“Yes. Don’t be fooled by their pretty appearance,” he said. “A more cruel and unprincipled race of beings never existed, as my people know to their cost. Stay close to me.”

“I consider myself duly warned.” Heart beating faster, she walked next to Aydarr.

The Badari came to a stop ten feet away from the waiting Khagrish, taking a position on a black line painted on the surface of the patio extending from the building. Aydarr took his place at the head of the formation, drawing Jill to stand between him and Mateer.

The woman appeared to be in charge. “You idiots,” she said to her two underlings, while the guards stood unmoving, their weapons now aimed at the line of Badari.

Jill blinked. The Khagrish scientist wasn’t speaking Basic, but her language was apparently close enough to something Jill had been hypno implanted with during her military days that the translator implant was able to make sense of the words. Lots of weird things rattling around in my brain, thanks to the Special Forces. The Sectors military liked to implant enhancements into their soldiers and nothing ever got removed. She wondered if Aydarr and his men understood Khagrish, but now wasn’t the time to ask.

Gesturing at Jill, the woman said, “The Sectors humans are not for this experiment. They weren’t brought here to be mixed into other, already established protocols. What the untranslatable is she doing in the Preserve? Mingling with the animals?”

One of the two men fidgeted. “We were bored. The animals don’t do anything new. We thought it would be amusing… um, scientifically enlightening to introduce a new factor into their playtime.”

“And there were so many humans delivered, we figured no one would miss one.” The other glared at Jill. She fought off the desire to take a defensive stand, keeping herself loosely at attention the way her companions stood. Was the entire population of my colony kidnapped? Her heart beat faster with dread, realizing her sisters, her friends and colleagues were held captive in the massive building, maybe already being experimented on.

“And you expected the Badari to do…what with her?” The female was contemptuous. And pissed, Jill concluded. “Fight over her? Tear her to bits? Assault her?”

The man evidently didn’t read emotions as well as Jill did. He nodded eagerly as if expecting praise for his enterprise, his ridiculous crest of hair bobbing. “Exactly. Any or all of those possibilities.”

“We were ready to take notes,” the other added. “We had the recorders running.”

Without warning the woman slapped him hard. “So you were hoping to make credits on the black market.”

Holding his cheek, on his knees, the tech cringed. “We’d have cut you in on the deal.”

“We made a huge balance on the vid of two of the animals fighting to the death, after we jacked them up on the right drugs,” the female scientist said thoughtfully. “The question is timing, you fools. Anything like this has to be done while the boss is away so the traces can be sufficiently covered up.”

Jill calculated her odds of reaching one of the guards and grabbing a weapon. The situation was getting worse and worse. She barely controlled her involuntary startle when Aydarr touched her hand ever so lightly with his fingers. She wished she could look at him as he linked his fingers with hers. Was he telling her to wait? To go for it? Trying to reassure her?

The woman paced from one side of the pavement to the other. “You’re lucky the director of the lab isn’t here right now. We can probably get away with destroying the human, as you said, there were so many delivered, losing one shouldn’t matter. We can’t put her back, since she has to be considered contaminated now for any new experiment. But we’ll have to delete all evidence of her presence. We can think about how to do this safely at a later date.”

“Won’t the animals talk about it?” The tech gestured at the Badari as he rose to his feet.

The scientist strutted right up to Aydarr, staring him in the face. Although the alpha towered over her, he lowered his gaze to meet her challenge. “Not if they’re properly incentivized.” She tapped him on the chest with one long finger. “801 here cares more about keeping his pack alive than he does about one random human.”

What’s to fear if you’re already dead? The Ghost Chronicles 2 by @MarloBerliner #paranormal

THE GHOST CHRONICLES 2 FRONT COVER (Final)

Title – THE GHOST CHRONICLES 2

Author – Marlo Berliner

Genre – Paranormal

Publisher – Teddy Blue Books

Book Blurb

What’s there to fear if you’re already dead?

Plenty.

Michael and Sarah now know for certain, there is a destination after death.

They also know they better find their way out of the afterlife fast, before the devil claims Michael’s soul.

What they don’t know?

Before they can get to heaven…

they may just have to go through hell.

Excerpt

Michael turned to her to say something funny, but the antique clock on the sidewalk in front of the gift shop suddenly chimed midnight. As usual, time had once again moved forward at some wickedly irrational pace.

The wind had picked up and snow was lightly falling again, straight through both of them. He took Sarah’s hand and let the swirling wind direct him, spinning her around the wrought-iron clock as if they were ballroom dancing to music only he could hear in his mind.

Or so he thought.

Until Sarah started humming the same tune along with him.

He hadn’t even realized it, but his mind must’ve been projecting the music, so he picked up the tempo now, humming louder. It took a moment before he could recall the name of the tune, but then he recognized the song as The Blue Danube, a famous waltz by Johann Strauss II. At least I remembered something from middle school music classes, he thought with amusement.

He twirled her around again with a big flourish then dipped her in his arms, before finally yanking her up into a tight embrace. A swirl of snowflakes danced softly around and through her wavy, red hair. Aroused by the warmth of her aura, he pulled her even closer to his chest, as spectral butterflies sprang to life in his stomach.

This was the kind of romantic moment any man, dead or alive, would remember forever. A thread of magic that would become stitched inside of a freeze frame of memory.

His fingers strayed across her cheek, relishing the softness of her ghostly skin. For a moment, her big, beautiful eyes held him spellbound. He could swear each time he looked into them they reflected an even deeper, more entrancing shade of green. “Merry Christmas, Sarah.”

She leaned into him and whispered tenderly, “Merry Christmas, my love.”

He let himself go, placing his mouth desperately over hers, losing himself in the heat and passion of her kiss. As far as he was concerned there was nothing else on this earth, nothing else in this universe, except her lips and this moment in time.

Dare She Rely on Her Knight to Save Them Both? The Guardian Witch by @RuthACasie #romance

TheGuardiansWitchFinal

Title: The Guardian’s Witch

Author: Ruth A. Casie

Genre: Historical Romance, Paranormal Romance

Book Blurb:

Dare she rely on her knight to find a way to save them both or does she trust her magic and risk exposure as a witch?

England, 1290

Lord Alex Stelton can’t resist a challenge, especially one with a prize like this: protect a castle on the Scottish border for a year, and it’s his. Desperate for land of his own, he’ll do anything to win the estate—even enter a proxy marriage to Lady Lisbeth Reynolds, the rumored witch who lives there.

Feared and scorned for her second sight, Lisbeth swore she’d never marry, but she is drawn to the handsome, confident Alex. She sees great love with him but fears what he would think of her gift and her visions of a traitor in their midst.

Despite his own vow never to fall in love, Alex can’t get the alluring Lisbeth out of his mind and is driven to protect her when attacks begin on the border. But as her visions of danger intensify, Lisbeth knows it is she who must protect him. Realizing they’ll secure their future only by facing the threat together, she must choose between keeping her magic a secret and losing the man she loves.

Book Trailer:

My Review:

If I could choose to live in one century in history, it would be the 13th century. I can’t tell you what it is about that era that I love so much. All I know is that historical romances written in the 13th century are some of my all-time favorites. When I heard that Ruth A. Casie had written a historical romance with magical elements in the 13th century, I jumped in with both feet.

Lisbeth comes from a long line of healers. Everyone in the village near Glen Kirk respects her for her compassion and special knowledge of herbs and tonics, even the King of England. When the King sends her Lord Alex as Protector of Glen Kirk, little does she know that her life will be forever altered. There’s something about Lord Alex, something she can’t place her finger on, that is, until he’s mortally wounded.

Lord Alex is desperate to escape court and for a land of his own. The King gives him the coveted Glen Kirk (near the border of Scotland) along with the beautiful Lady Lisbeth as his bride. Alex groans but goes ahead with the plan. But before he can tell Lisbeth they’re married by proxy, he’s attacked and almost dies.

Lisbeth saves Alex on more than one occasion and she begins to wonder if he’s the man for her. She certainly has intoxicating dreams about him. But she’s afraid, deeply afraid of losing him like she lost her parents and brother. Can she trust Alex enough to let him into her heart and once inside, can she share her deepest secret, or will she lose him forever?

A beautiful historical romance filled with intriguing characters, a complex plot with twists and turns, magical elements and a love story that made me swoon. I loved both Alex and Lisbeth (not to mention their parents) as main characters and once again, Ruth A. Casie creates a love so deep, not even death can stop it. She reveals both of them have trust issues (as well as other personality insecurities) and that just made them all the more likable.

The plot, with all its historical details and surprises, was a pleasure to work through. Alex and Lisbeth go through a lot (and I mean a lot) of ups and downs but it all makes sense when you get to the climax. Ruth A. Casie wove quite a bit of suspense which I loved. I couldn’t turn the pages fast-enough.

I read this book in two sittings and I highly recommend it! I’m hoping the author makes this a series as I would love to hear more about Alex’s parents and his six brothers. This is one of my favorite historical romances of all time!

Favorite Character:

My favorite character is Lisbeth and here’s why: she reminds me of myself if I was in the 13th century. She’s tormented by the death of her parents, deathly afraid of letting any man into her heart, a healer who has a gentle spirit, a passionate woman and quite independent. Even when people tell her to do something (like stay inside the castle walls), she’s a tad stubborn. Now, I’m not admitting to being a healer or a witch but the essence of Lisbeth is very similar to mine. She’s an extremely likable character and I want to learn more about her parents (hint, hint Ruth A. Casie).

Favorite Quote: “She’d brought many a warrior to his knees saving their lives. He would be no exception.” ~Lisbeth

My Rating:  5+ stars

Excerpt:

The berries Lisbeth had gathered tumbled forgotten from her hands. A tremor touched her lips while the vision slammed behind her eyes. She didn’t doubt the vision’s truth. Sometimes a bright light, warm and comforting, accompanied the vision; other times the wind howled, cold and disturbing. Today, panic clearly filled the air.

She spun around trying to pinpoint a direction and abruptly stopped. Facing south, she licked her lips nervously and tasted the sweetness of fresh water. A rushing sound burst in her ears. The river. Her head snapped east toward the river path and she ran. As she careened down the narrow trail, the outstretched branches tugged at her dress, pulled off her shawl and clawed at her face and arms. She took no notice. The cadence of her footfalls beat out a mantra, not him, not him, not him. She rushed on faster, mumbling enchanted words under her breath.

She exploded out of the forest and stood on the riverbank as the bridge gave way, sending the horse and rider plunging into the angry current. Swiftly the horse surfaced and headed for shore with an empty saddle. She stood on the bank, still mumbling as she scanned the river until she glimpsed a clear red aura shining deep in its middle. Her relief was momentary when the blackness began to creep in. There wasn’t much time.

Quickly she pulled off her heavy dress and, wearing only her chemise, dove into the river. Save him was her only thought. Down she plunged kicking hard against the current. The usually clear water, now choked with mud, churned with debris. She screamed the words in her head and made her demands. In response, the current slowed and as the mud began to settle, a lifeless hand beckoned to her from below.

Stillness by Eldon Farrell

Some secrets won’t stay buried…

When people start to succumb to a virulent strain of plague in the seemingly idyllic hamlet of Stillness, the CDC is called in to investigate. Pulled from her training with the Epidemic Intelligence Service, Dr. Lynne Bosworth is tapped to head the investigation.

Many questions surround the outbreak, not the least of which is how did plague find its way to the heartland of America? Determined to find the answers and her own way out of the long shadow cast by her father, Lynne embarks for Iowa. Unable to isolate an index case of bubonic plague, patient zero is traced to Nikolai Markov; an old Russian bio warfare scientist.

Rumors of a bioterror attack are rampant.

Under examination, the bacteria present Lynne with many anomalies but few answers. The antibiotic resistance noted in the field is absent in the lab, while a synthetic gene is found that seemingly has no purpose. For her superiors it’s enough to deem the outbreak a biological attack, a conclusion that Lynne does not share. For her, something about the whole incident remains…elusive.

In search of evidence to either prove or disprove the bioterror claim, she crosses paths with FBI Special Agent Caleb Fine. Together, they come to believe that something other than a biological attack is going on in Stillness, and that the answer to what may lie in solving the fifteen year old murders of Bobby and Maggie Sullivan.

As the body count rises and the pressure mounts, they delve deeper into the shadowy past of this quiet town; in the process exposing secrets long thought forgotten until finally uncovering the shocking truth behind the cause of the outbreak.

Taken by Eldon Farrell

A killer is stalking the city…

FBI Special Agent Caleb Fine—along with the rest of the nation—sees the enigmatic predator known as “The Toymaker” lurking in every shadow. Always just out of reach, with each new victim he nabs; Caleb loses more of himself to the pursuit of darkness.

We have your wife…

The blinking light on his answering machine reveals these four words to Roger Whittaker as he returns home. They are destined to change the rest of his life.

Bo Lester from the Major Crimes Unit in Atlanta views the abduction of Miriam Whittaker as an inside job—someone at the CDC sold Roger out. For him the prime suspect becomes Lynne Bosworth. Her case is not helped by the animosity that has existed between her and Roger for the past six months. With few leads to follow, Bo demands that she return home from Peru—where she is stationed with the World Health Organization—to face questioning. Brought back to face the accusations she is aided in her defense by Caleb who works to free her and find out who is really behind Miriam’s abduction.

As the pressure builds a single demand is delivered—Roger is to attend the International AIDS Conference in Toronto and renounce HIV as the cause of AIDS! Stunned by this demand and fighting interests from all sides, what is Roger to do? If he refuses to comply Miriam will die. If he endorses the claim millions more could die.

Unless it’s true…

Realm of Shadows: by Eldon Farrell

Hope is lost.

On a small island off the coast of North Carolina the unthinkable has happened; 400 people have vanished without a trace. So far every government investigation has been stymied in their attempts to explain the sudden mass disappearance. Now as the public clamor for answers the very people tasked with finding them start to disappear as well, leaving many to wonder if what caused the vanishing is still lurking on the island?

Consumed by darkness.

Caleb Fine is a changed man. The events of Toronto have left him wracked by guilt and filled with a barely constrained rage. The search for the Toymaker is no longer about justice for him—the killer has made it deeply personal. Now nothing and no one—including the FBI—will stand in his way.

In the realm of shadows…

Following a trail of obscure riddles and scant clues, Caleb finally discovers where the Toymaker has gone to ground. With the aid of his partner, Li Ling Tran, he heads into the unknown to find that in the shadows of his soul, a promise softly spoken has become tragically true.

Nothing will ever be the same again.

A Dose of Danger by Kim McMahill

With her colleagues either dead, missing, or on the run she soon realizes she must trust the deputy with her life, but can she trust him with her heart?

A Taste of Tragedy by Kim McMahill

Morgan Hunter sacrificed everything for her career. She had yet to encounter anything she wasn’t willing to do to succeed…until now. When she uncovers evidence that the healthy foods she’s been hired to promote may be dangerous, she must reevaluate her priorities. As questions mount and the body count rises, she finds herself caught in the cross-hairs of an organization that will stop at nothing to hide its secrets and protect its profits. With no one else to trust, Morgan is forced to seek help from the man she drove away, but whom she never stopped loving…

Idiot’s Tale: It’s always darkest just before the end by Anthony Land

Your name is John Rainwater. You’re an aging and penniless private investigator. You may have killed someone. You and your client are up to your necks in something terrifying. The female spy who is supposed to be keeping you alive may be insane. And tomorrow things could get really bad.

It began when the rich and beautiful Morgana Trehane burst into your low-rent office near the New Orleans docks, claiming that she has just escaped from kidnappers who grilled her about something called White Stone, which may be the realization of the ancient dream of turning base metal into gold.

Within 24 hours you and your client are in Miami, with ex-Mossad agent Roni Miller – the most violent woman you ever met – guiding you through a tangle of lies, greed, and deadly peril. What you are pursuing isn’t just the promise of endless wealth, but a device that could set off the most terrible war in human history.

You are vastly out of your depth, the body count is rising, and all you know for certain is that if this operation you’ve stumbled into fails, you, the lovely Morgana, and everyone else involved will end up in unmarked graves so that people in power can deny that it ever existed.

Idiot’s Tale is unlike any thriller you’ve read, careening between mordant humor and nihilistic darkness, on its way to an ending that will haunt you for a long time.

If you’re a fan of fast-paced, smart thrillers with a very dark edge, you should read Idiot’s Tale. Go ahead. We dare you!

Viable Threat by Julie Rowe

Special Forces soldier and medic Walter River would give anything to snatch more than a few seconds of down time to see if he can rattle the no-nonsense and incredibly hot Dr. Lloyd he’s protecting, but dodging explosions, snipers, and student radicals who’ve unleashed a lethal bio-engineered microorganism have made that almost impossible. Maybe he’ll get a chance—if he can figure out how to keep them both alive.

CDC microbiologist Ava Lloyd races to find a cure for a bio-terrorism organism sweeping El Paso. The few stolen moments with her very hunky bodyguard River have been explosive, but no matter how alluring he is, she can’t afford to get distracted. The clock is ticking, people are dying by the hundreds, and once this crisis is solved, they’ll both be off on their next assignment, thousands of miles apart.

A Price for Genius by Lin Wilder

Dr. Lindsey McCall’s worst fears are realized. Not only have both drugs been stolen but two women have been kidnapped—one maybe dead. Lindsey had known Liisa Reardon’s new drug was alchemy, only this time, the end product actually more precious than gold.

The desperate call from Hank Reardon in Switzerland came late at night causing too many questions. And no answers. Could Lindsey and Rich Jansen uncover who was behind the crimes? It was an inside job-could they figure out who had sold out the Reardons? All in time to save Reardon’s daughter and her chief tech Ariana? Were they risking their lives as well?

Title Arrested by Love, Unexpected Consequences, Book 1

Author Kathryn R. Blake

Genre Spanking/Erotic Romance

Publisher Blushing Books

Book Blurb

She broke the law to catch a police officer. Only he caught her first, and then turned her over his knee.

Tiffany Morgan has been in love with Kyle Sinclair since she was ten years old. Now, eleven years later, Kyle, a patrol officer, is finding it much more difficult to maintain his distance from the irresistible and vivacious redhead who continues to invent ingenious ways to attract his interest. Though he dismissed her initial attraction to him as infatuation, as she grew-up, his own feelings of desire and protectiveness deepened. So, despite his constant struggle to resist the spirited little minx’s lures, Kyle has to finally admit that he is losing that battle–badly.

However, when Tiffany’s attention-seeking pranks escalate to the point of endangering her life, Kyle decides it is past time for him to take a much firmer hand to Miss Morgan’s deliciously rounded backside.

Kyle is a firm supporter of law and order, and a man’s rightful dominion over the woman he loves. So, to make sure Tiffany understands and accepts his mastery when it comes to her safety and well-being, Kyle lays down the law, and his hand, with loving firmness. Tiffany will learn to obey him, or else. Especially now that he’s decided she is going to be his wife.

Excerpt

He danced with both hands resting at the small of her back, and his arms encircling her waist. Not so tightly she couldn’t pull away if she wished to, and yet with enough pressure to let her know he was there and he would and could protect her if it became necessary.

Those same hands had severely spanked her a few days ago. She’d appreciated their firm strength then, but now she luxuriated in the way they rested against her, right above the area he’d thoroughly punished when he took her over his knee. His firm domination combined with his gentle handling had her panties so soaked, she was afraid she’d end up embarrassing herself.

When he’d determined their date was over, he took her home, gave her a warm and sexy kiss at the door, then, after waiting until she was safely inside, he bid her parents a good evening and left.

Even though Tiffany didn’t want to admit it aloud, she realized she’d fallen head over heels in love with Kyle the first time he’d spanked her, when she was ten. Once she realized he intended to paddle her, she’d been angry and outraged over his domineering stance and attitude. She wasn’t his little sister, and he had no right to spank her.

She’d wailed and cried, and even threatened to tell her daddy about his mistreatment of her. Except she wasn’t that badly hurt. Only her pride was. He’d cared enough to risk punishing her for having endangered her life. And even though the spanking was painful, his cuddling and reassurance afterward almost made the punishment worth it. Enough so, she’d occasionally test him to see if he’d do it again. Much to her surprise, delight, and occasional dismay over her sore backside, he’d see to it she had trouble sitting down if her actions posed a hazard to her safety or well-being.

He was a dominant alpha male, which annoyed her at times, especially when he found it necessary to lecture her. But those same protective traits attracted Tiffany to Kyle. Okay, not so much the lectures, perhaps, as his quiet strength and demonstrated ability to look after her. She’d felt the power beneath those muscles many times when he’d carried her out of harm’s way as if she weighed nothing.

True, she wasn’t exceptionally heavy, but she wasn’t a light weight by any means, either. However, it was the lengths she was willing to go to get his attention that got her into serious trouble with him.

Except, since they were dating now, Tiffany no longer had to sink to those extremes for Kyle’s attention. He gave it to her unstintingly. When they were together every bit of his attention was focused on her, as if she was the only other person in the world. It was a heady feeling, and a little embarrassing at times when he’d probe her with personal questions because she was acting bratty, cranky, or out of sorts.

In the four and half months they’d dated, he hadn’t spanked her once. Possibly because she hadn’t given him cause to. When she hurt from her period, he’d confirm with quick efficiency the reason for her snapping at him then comfort her with lots of kisses and a warm hand on her tummy to ease the cramping. It worked better than ibuprofen.

Author Biography

Though Arrested by Love is Kathryn R. Blake’s first spanking romance (a romance where the spankings actually figure into the plot), it is not the first book she has written in which the hero spanks the heroine. In fact, most of her novels have some sort of spanking in them. To date, all of her heroes are Dominant, alpha males who are extremely protective of the women they love. However, part of that protectiveness includes the desire for a certain amount of control. They do not suffer defiance or disobedience lightly. In fact, it is something they refuse to tolerate, and will take firm steps to ensure it never happens again.

Even in novels where there is an element of BDSM, the hero has no desire to cause the heroine injury, but does believe pain can be a powerful motivator. Even so, he takes no delight in hurting the woman of his heart. In fact, sometimes he finds it extremely difficult to follow through on his threats. But if the transgression is serious enough to actually endanger the heroine’s well-being or life, he will take action no matter how much it may hurt him to do so.

 A Doms Dilemma-rev

Title A Dom’s Dilemma, Unexpected Consequences, Book 2

Author Kathryn R. Blake

Genre Erotic Romance/BDSM

Publisher Blushing Books

Book Blurb

She needed his protection. Only he demanded her total honesty first.

James Evans has been a police detective for sixteen years and an active participant in the local club scene for even longer. So, at age 35, he knows what he likes, and for the last three years, he’s liked what he’s seen in Kelly Franklin. Pretty, feisty and submissive, the fact that she scurries off like a frightened rabbit every time she sees him, only intrigues him more. He would have pressed a lot harder to corner her, if she didn’t already belong to someone else. That is why, when Kyle Sinclair mentions he’s looking for a new Dom to top Kelly, Jim doesn’t hesitate to sign up for the job.

Taking his cues from Kelly, Jim quickly discovers she isn’t seeking pain and punishment the way Kyle thought. In fact, all of Kelly’s signals indicate she is scared of pain, which both puzzles Jim and brings his protective side to the fore.

As a Dom, Jim is pleased by Kelly’s open responsiveness, but as a police detective, he is determined to solve the enigma she presents. Their relationship grows even more complicated when he discovers Kelly has not only been keeping secrets from him, she has lied, and neither side of him tolerates any type of deception–ever. A point he is more than willing to make with Kelly draped butt-naked over his knee–until she finally tells him the truth.

Excerpt

Kelly realized her doubt-filled thoughts were more obvious than she thought when Jim’s determined smile evolved into a chuckle and he bent to give her a reassuring kiss. Except the brush of his firm lips against hers started a delicious tingle of desire stirring within her core, making her long for more as she clung to him.

Drawing back, he gave her a disapproving frown. “Enough of that, young lady. You’re far too tempting as it is without pressing those plump, luscious breasts of yours into my chest. Now, behave. I said we weren’t going there, and I meant it. You’re still too sore, and if you doubt my words, I’ll prove ’em to you in a way you’re not gonna like.”

She ducked her head back under his chin as an answer. She wouldn’t press for more tonight, but she’d reconsidered his invitation. If he could arouse her so strongly with a simple kiss, what would he be able to do if they had more time together?

With a hard swallow, she gathered her courage and said, “I’ve changed my mind about this weekend, Sir. I’d very much like to go home with you.”

The admission earned Kelly another sensual, drugging kiss, which ended with a firm swat on her blanketed butt. “You sorely test a man’s restraint, darlin’. I’d best get you dressed and home before I carry you off and have my wicked way with you.”

She smiled at his resolute expression as she smoothed the lines between his brow with her fingers. “I’d like that, too, Sir,” she murmured, grinning to herself when a rumbling, deep growl emanated from his throat.

But rather than scold or lecture her, he picked Kelly up, carried her over to where he’d insisted she strip, and pointed to her outfit.

“Get your clothes back on now, sub, before I decide you need another lesson in obedience. Once you’re ready, I’m seeing you home.”

Without thinking, Kelly shook her head. “That’s not necessary, Sir. I can take a cab.”

“No, Kelly. You’re mine now, and I will not have you taking public transportation when I can drive you. Especially, not this late at night.”

Not wanting to put him out of his way, she opened her mouth to protest, only to shut it when he raised a cautioning finger. “I’m warning you now, sugar. I’d best hear no objection coming outta those lovely lips of yours, unless you’re hankering for another session over my knee.”

Since she definitely didn’t want that, Kelly obediently dressed while her new Dom watched from a few feet away, his gaze openly admiring. Once she got her skirt and top on, he took her by the elbow to the entrance so she could retrieve her shoes and purse, then escorted her out to his car. A silver Lexus.

Even if it wasn’t the latest model, she considered it a most impressive set of wheels, considering he worked as a police detective. He opened the door for her and waited for her to settle before he reached in to make sure her seat belt was buckled properly. After getting in on the other side, he asked where she lived. When she told him, he said, “Know the area well. You lean back and relax, and I’ll get you home in two shakes.”

Title Learning to be Little: Kelly’s Story, Unexpected Consequences, Book 3

Author Kathryn R. Blake

Genre Erotic Romance/BDSM/Age Play

Publisher Blushing Books

Book Blurb

She needed a savior, he wanted a little girl. So, he made her an offer she couldn’t refuse.

After a bleak childhood in foster care, Kelly’s growing mistrust has her running away again and again. Homeless and penniless, with no relatives to harbor her and a penchant for escaping her caretakers, Kelly is finally handed over to one of the few parish orphanages remaining in existence until she turns eighteen, when she is released.

Possessing only a little money, few skills, and even fewer resources, Kelly’s attempts at job hunting end up with her prowling the streets in desperation – until a wealthy stranger makes her a proposition she is too cold and hungry to refuse. Though it isn’t until he takes her home that she realizes just what she’s gotten herself into.

Publisher’s Note: This book contains elements of power exchange, and dynamics of age-play as well as discipline. If any of these offend you, please do not purchase.

Excerpt

After they’d finished purchasing two pairs of Mary Jane’s for Kelly along with a pair of athletic shoes and patent leather pumps with straps, it was close to one thirty p.m.

“We’d best get going, or you’ll be late for your doctor’s appointment.”

Kelly tugged on Daddy’s hand. “I don’t want to go.”

He gave her a nod. “I’m fully aware of that, kitten, but I think it’s important we make sure you’re healthy, so, unfortunately, your wants and wishes in this matter don’t hold as much weight as mine.”

“Will they ever?”

Stopping, he cupped Kelly’s chin. “They count, Kelly, much more than you currently realize. I want you to be happy, and I intend to ensure you remain well. This is not a punishment. It’s a checkup.”

Kelly accepted that arguing further would only get her in trouble, so she reluctantly accompanied Daddy into a cab and then into the building where the doctor worked.

When they stepped into Reception, the nurse smiled at him. “Mr. White. How nice to see you again. Is this your new young miss?”

“Yes, this is Kelly. We have a 2:00 p.m. appointment with Dr. Kent.”

“Of course. Have a seat, and we’ll be with you in a moment.”

With his hand placed firmly at the small of Kelly’s back, Daddy led her over to the row of chairs against the wall. “Let’s take off your new winter coat, first. Then I want you to sit there.” He pointed to the chair right before her, so, after he took off her flared little girl coat, she gave a small hop and flopped into it.

“Behave,” he warned beneath his breath as he took the seat to her left and grabbed a magazine from the stack on the side table nearest him. “They have some coloring books over there if you want to color for a while.”

“Really?” she asked, not bothering to hide her distaste as she looked around. The walls were painted beige, but, spaced every few feet, were brightly colored abstracts intended to capture a child’s attention. An obvious distraction technique. See the pretty picture, honey? What do you think that is? The paintings did nothing for Kelly. Nor did the games and puzzles stacked on the round kiddie table. The overwhelming odor of alcohol and medicine reminded her of every other doctor’s office she’d visited, which only increased her unease. She wanted to leave, but it seemed that was not an option.

Daddy ignored her, so she sat swinging her legs, since the waiting room seat was too high for her feet to touch. All of them appeared higher than normal except those placed in the kids’ corner. “Why is everything is so much taller and larger in these places? Is it intentionally done to make the Littles feel small and insignificant?”

“Quiet,” he murmured. “You’re disturbing the other children.”

“They’re already disturbed,” she mumbled under her breath.

Putting the magazine down, he turned to face her. “One more comment like that, and you’ll end up over my knee.”

Kelly turned away so he wouldn’t know how much his words upset her.

He reached over and squeezed her fingers. “Are you afraid of doctors?”

“No.”

“Then, why are you so tense?”

She shrugged. “I don’t like them, but I don’t fear them, either.”

He bent his head and spoke in a soft, reassuring tone. “Dr. Kent is very gentle. He won’t hurt you.”

Kelly sighed as if it didn’t matter, but, if she had her choice, she’d run out of there as fast as she could.

EXCERPT:

As he sat down, he saw Cailyn enter. He couldn’t take his eyes from her as she threaded through the crowd toward him. He almost held his breath as he stared. The woman was utterly gorgeous. Her hair had been swept up again revealing that delicate neck, and the dress clung to every delicious curve. Finally he could see her luscious figure in detail and it had been worth the wait. With the cut of the dress revealing the tops of her shoulders, her simple elegance seemed out of place among the raucous crowd.

His guards let her through at his instruction and she climbed the platform and stood before him, her head low.

“I’m not pleased you had to be summoned, kitten,” he said, lifting his ale and keeping his eyes on her.

“I’m sure you can understand I wasn’t eager to attend, considering your plans to…” Her voice petered out, her head lifted and her eyes widened, an expression of horror seeping into her face.

Drocco frowned, confused, and then a scent hit him. A rich, luscious, sublime scent, like nothing he had smelt before. It penetrated every part of him, causing a yearning so powerful that suddenly every fiber of his being switched to high alert.

“No,” Cailyn whispered, taking a step back. “No. It can’t…”

Drocco ignored her and leaned forward, trying to decipher what he was experiencing. A fog began to swamp his mind, and the only clear thought emerging was that he needed that scent—it belonged to him. He turned his head slowly seeking it out, and then snapped back to Cailyn. It was her.

Cailyn glanced around wildly as she backed away, her whole body tense and poised to bolt.

Drocco rose slowly, every inch of him aware of every inch of her. A raw hunger developed as he took in her terrified expression, her scent blossoming into an aroma so enticing, so complex, his cock hardened to rock. At the same time, the guards behind her began to turn and look at her, their nostrils flaring.

Something snapped in Drocco.

Path of the Traitors Final

Title: Path of the Traitors (Legends of Windemere Book 14)

Author: Charles E. Yallowitz

Genre: Epic Fantasy, Fantasy

Book Blurb:

Hated and distrusted, Queen Trinity must leave the shadows and reach for redemption.

With their final battle on the horizon, the champions are faced with a long-lost piece of the prophecy. Unable to search for the crests that are rumored to be the key to survival, they must turn to a band of their former enemies for help. Sinister desires and hopes for redemption collide as Queen Trinity of the Chaos Elves leads the hunt and struggles to keep her companions on the path of heroism. Monsters, traps, mysteries, and their own pasts will rise up to stand in the way of these people who have spent their entire lives committing sins. Throughout it all, another old enemy is lurking in the shadows and determined to claim her own delicious prize.

By the end of their journey, those who survive will learn that being a hero is more than simply stepping into the light.

My Review:

This is the second to last book in the Legends of Windemere series and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I mean, after the last book ended the way it did, was this installment going to be similar in its darkness and death? In a word, no. Yallowitz instead chose to focus on Queen Trinity, one of my favorite characters.

Baron Kernaghan is uncontainable in his rage and several of his underlings hide in stark fear. Queen Trinity is on a journey to find the missing crests and fulfill a long-lost prophesy, but little does she know that the path she’s on is one of redemption and fighting for what’s right. She’s done a lot of bad things in the name of the Baron and it’s time to own up to it. Can she step out of the shadows and be the leader she’s meant to be, or will she stick to the sidelines?

I really can’t say much more because I don’t want to give away any spoilers. What I can tell you is that this book is fantastic, even though the Champions are mostly absent. This is about Trinity and what lays before her. Yallowitz portrays her as a sympathetic character even though she’s been an enemy of the Champions for many, many books. I connected with Trinity and her growth was dramatic. I can’t wait for the final book and all that will transpire.

If you enjoy epic fantasy, I highly recommend this one! It can be read as a standalone but it’s such a better experience to read them all.

Favorite Character/Quote: “A symbol’s real power isn’t in its form, but in its longevity. Tell their story and use it to promote peace.”

The Vatican Children by @LincolnJCole is Creepy, Thought-Provoking #bookreview #occult #UF

The-Vatican-Children---kindle-cover

Title: The Vatican Children (World of Shadows Book 2)

Author: Lincoln Cole

Genre: Occult Thriller/Urban Fantasy

Book Blurb:

Once the events of Everett are finally behind him, Father Niccolo Paladina reluctantly decides to assist the Occult Demon Hunter Arthur Vangeest in chasing down the enemy that narrowly escaped them back in Washington. Niccolo knows how important it is to bring the man to justice for the crimes he has committed against the Vatican as well as humanity.

Father Paladina knows that the enemy has something big planned against the Church and that it will be worse than anything he has seen before. If they can keep the man on the run, however, he won’t be able to finish his plan. That’s the plan, at least, though finding him turns out to be more dangerous than anticipated.

Arthur, on the other hand, is still hoping to earn some redemption for his actions in West Virginia nine months ago. He seeks to atone for his mistakes and become a better man. Atonement, however, can be difficult to come by…

Especially when the stakes are so high.

My Review:

The Vatican Children picks up right where The Everett Exorcism left off. Father Paladina teams up with Arthur Vangeest to hunt down the Bishop to make him pay for what he did back in Washington. Somehow the Bishop escaped their clutches but that could work to Paladina’s and Arthur’s advantage, that is, if they can catch him before he completes his evil plan. What they don’t anticipate is the Bishop’s use of innocent children to enact his plan. Arthur vows to never kill again and his path to redemption is within his grasp but then hell is unleashed, and he must choose: save one life or save many.

Wow! Another brilliant book in the World of Shadows universe. The suspense moved the plot at a frantic pace while the characters made me care what happened to them. Both Arthur and Father P. (as I affectionally call him) must dig deep to overcome both their own insecurities and what must be done to save the lives of many. The Bishop is a malicious antagonist but in a delicious way. I found myself wondering how he grew to be so wicked, so sinful, so hell-bent on destroying the Church.

The Vatican Children brings the reader at the heart of an eternal battle between good and evil. Creepy, thought-provoking and thrilling to read, I highly recommend this book, though please read The Everett Exorcism first. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Favorite Character/Quote: “He had to admit, just seeing her caused his heart to race and filled him with emotion. She represented his second chance at life, a chance to try again. This time, he would get it right.”

Crimson Dreams, Book One by @georgianafields #paranormalromance #books #romance

Intense young man

Title: Crimson Dreams

Author: Georgiana Fields

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Publisher: Gilded Dragonfly Books

Book Blurb:

Rose Kelley modern day Victorian restoration expert is transported back to 1900 Victorian England where she meets her true mate, a Dhampir, and becomes the target of a Jack the Ripper type killer. Can a 21st century woman survive in Victorian England? Can Vaughn Madoc protect the woman he loves in his time or hers?

Shape shifters, a serial killer, Vampires and time travel all contribute to make this an unforgettable love story. Packed with action and adventure, danger stalks Rose at every turn.

Excerpt:

The sound of rain echoed as she followed him. “Just my luck I’d be in a house with a missing room during a thunderstorm.”

“You’re not frightened, are you?” He stopped in front of a door. He hesitated before opening it. “The room should be in here.”

“I’m not afraid.” Rose walked into the room and turned around in a circle, studying her surroundings. The room stood nearly empty. The only furniture was a large oak desk that sat in the middle of the room. A wingback chair with worn, faded green baroque fabric sat near the double windows. The dirty windows provided efficient light for the small room. Dark paneling covered the walls. She faced the windows, behind her was the hallway, and to the left stood outside facade of the house. The hidden room had to be to her right. “The room should be somewhere behind this wall.” She pointed.

“I agree.” Vaughn leaned against the desk. He picked up an object.

“What’s that?”

He raised his tawny eyebrow. “A knife I used as a letter opener. I thought I’d lost it a long time ago.” He placed the knife back on the desk.

She turned and strolled over to the wall, then started tapping on it. She heard a definite thud. “Did you hear that?”

“Yes. It sounded hollow to me.”

Rose ran her hand over the paneling. “This section is loose.” She stepped back and bumped into Vaughn.

He used the knife to pry loose the paneling. “Let me see if I can pull this from the wall.” He handed her the knife, then grabbed hold of the edge of the paneling. He pulled it away with little effort, revealing a door. “My dear, I believe we’ve found the missing room.”

Rose tucked the knife into her notebook, then turned the knob. She pushed opened the door and peered into a dark, dusty, and empty room. Bookcases covered the four walls.

Vaughn touched her shoulder, stopping her from entering. “Do not go in there. Let me get a flashlight first.”

“Why, think your vampire is hiding inside?”

Hardly,” he chuckled.

Rose watched as Vaughn left. She didn’t need a flashlight, enough light filtered in through the dirty windows for her. She glanced at the doorway and started to call him back. Her curiosity got the better of her.

Rose shivered as if she’d entered a tomb.

Hundreds of years of dirt and grime coated the windows. Cobwebs hung thick as curtains from the ceiling, and spider webs draped the double windows. She breathed in the musty smell and coughed.

Lightning flashed. The room vibrated with the rumble of thunder. She turned and glanced back at the doorway she’d just walked through.

A flash of light blinded her. The room began to spin. She fell to her knees. The contents of her notebook scattered across the worn wood floor.

Rose held her breath as the room spun out of control. Familiar sounds assaulted her. Old radio broadcasts and music blared in her mind. Bright lights and images from history books blurred before her eyes. The chaos made her head hurt. The spinning continued. Dizziness overwhelmed her.

Suddenly the room stopped spinning and felt like an elevator free-falling. Seconds stretched to hours. Her screams were lost in a soundless void.

The falling sensation ceased. She lay on the floor and willed herself to open her eyes. She gasped. The room had changed completely.

Excerpt

The engine stopped, and she heard a car door slam. She needed out of the trunk, but no one came for her. What if they abandon the car and leave me? I don’t want to die trussed up in a car trunk. A fresh wave of fear washed through her, along with a spike of adrenaline. Her body trembled, but time slowed and her thoughts cleared. She needed to take things one step at a time.

Step one—get her arms free. She wriggled around, hoping the rough ride had dislodged something she could use to cut the rope. Bingo. Her fingers touched a metal box. Maybe it held tools or a knife. She almost wept when she couldn’t open it. The hinge stuck out from the box, so she twisted some more, running the rope against the hinge. Periodically, she stopped and tensed her wrists in an attempt to pull the nylon strands apart.

She’d no idea how long she worked at her bonds. It seemed like hours until the rope finally gave way. Relieved tears filled her eyes. Rather than rub her wrists, she tugged off the hood and pulled the gag from her mouth. She’d never been so thirsty. She’d give anything for a cold beer right now.

Step two—find the release mechanism the law said every car should have in the trunk. She felt claustrophobic, so scared she could barely move, but she forced herself to concentrate. There, in the corner, a glow-in-the-dark lever beckoned. Wriggling like a maggot in a fisherman’s box, she kicked it for all she was worth, and the trunk lid popped open.

The air smelled wonderful, if slightly musty, but silence and utter darkness surrounded her. She listened a while, decided her captors had left, and slipped out the trunk. No lights shone through the darkness. Using her hands rather than her eyes, she found a lug wrench and flashlight alongside the spare tire beneath the space she’d just escaped. She grabbed both, quietly shut the trunk, and headed into the darkness.

Kryssie Fortune

Author Biography

Kryssie is never seen without her kindle. She reads everything and anything she can get her hands on. When she discovered hot, sexy reads, she felt like she’d found her home. The only books she hates are the ones that end with a cliff hanger or have unhappy endings.

Kryssie tries to set her stories in places she’s explored. Hopefully, it adds color to her writing. Anything can spark a story idea. Sometimes she takes liberties though. The North Yorkshire town of Whitby is one of her favorite places. To keep the details of her imaginary town, Westhorpe Ridge consistent, she mentally shunted Whitby over the Atlantic and renamed it Westhorpe Ridge.

When not writing, Kryssie loves to walk on the beach of home town, Bridlington, or potter in her garden. Popping down to London to see her family is her favorite thing to do.

Kryssie currently has thirteen books on general release along with a boxed e-book of the first three Westhorpe Ridge stories. All her stories are M/ F or M/M/F. All are edited by publishing houses in either the UK or the USA. While her stories sizzle with sex, plot comes before bed. Life’s always an adventure going on in Kryssie’s world.

Excerpt

Momentarily struck dumb by his eye color, she stared back. Why hadn’t she noticed until now? Although not as light as hers or her father’s, the professor’s eyes were a startling green shade.

His hand nudged her arm. “Lacy?”

She jumped. “Oh, yes.” She slipped the tissue from the half-carved wolf. Another glance at his eyes and goose bumps riddled her arms.

He lifted the wood close to his face, using both hands as if handling a delicate hummingbird. His thumb traced the neck of the creature to the juncture of where it emerged from the wood.

When he brought the piece to his nose, closing his eyes and breathing deeply, Lacy wanted to turn away from the oddly erotic gesture.

He swallowed, opened his eyes and set the wolf back on the tissue. His attention shifted to the photograph of the chest. He touched the photo, a smile on his lips. “Where is the chest?”

The chest. Like he knew it, had seen it before. “I’m having it sent. You’ve seen it before?”

He didn’t move, stared out the window as if deep in thought. “I’d like to show you something, Lacy.”

“All right.” She waited, watching his profile.

He turned and stared into her face a moment. “You’re so very lovely. A creation full of life and passion, surpassing any art form.”

His hypnotic voice floated on the classical strains drifting from the living room. She couldn’t speak. Didn’t know what to say. She’d been lifted upon a pedestal of admiration. With any other man, she might consider his words a means to a sexual end. The professor’s intentions, however, were crystal. He admired her like a work of art.

When she decides to take a few days away on the ranch of her best friend’s brother-in-law, she doesn’t expect romance to find her…or murder to follow her.

Mason Meadowlark is happy with his wild cowboy ways, avoiding love since the death of his baby and the end of his marriage twenty years ago. When Phoebe shows up, he fights to control his emotions, but soon wonders if she just might be worth the risk of opening his heart again.

With an obsessed fan close on her heels, Phoebe is thrown into her own murder mystery…and the next target on his list is Mason.

Phoebe shuddered and stilled.

Like the aftershocks of an earthquake, trembling overtook her body. Her knees wobbled, but Mason caught her before she collapsed.

“What’s wrong?” He hugged her briefly then brought his face even with hers. “Phoebe, tell me. Why are you shaking? What’s happened?”

“Oh my God, Mason.” She spread her hands on his chest and glanced back at the bathroom. “Tell someone to call an ambulance. Hurry!”

He took a step toward the ladies’ room, but she grabbed his shirtfront. “No!” She peered around him and shouted. “Someone call nine one one.”

Mason touched his pocket. “My cell’s in the truck.” He grabbed the shoulder of a male customer, the closest person to them. “You got a cell on you?”

The man nodded and pulled a phone from his pocket.

“Call nine one one right now. There’s been…” His face questioned her.

“Someone’s badly hurt in the bathroom. Oh hell, hurry!” She thumped her palms against his chest.

The man pulled out his cell as he raced into the ladies’ room.

Phoebe wrapped her arms around Mason, tipped her chin upward, and found the words. “It’s that

waitress, Mason. Carla.”

His expression went blank, from concern for her to no comprehension.

“There’s so much blood.” She stifled a gag, the sweet, copper penny reek still heavy in her nostrils. “Her throat.” A shudder rippled the length of her body. “I think she’s dead.”

Unreasonable irritation set his jaw tight, and he shot his partner a scowl. “She’s lying.”

“She’s convincing.” True to form, Albert spoke his mind. He’d miss him when he retired.

He let his ire go with the thought. “You don’t know her well enough.” They’d reached the landing and the door into the Great Hall.

“How well do you know Eike, Tobias?”

“I know her enough to know she’s not to be trusted. To know her aspirations—”

“I trust your gut.” His partner laid a hand on his shoulder. “It felt practiced…you’re right.” Albert opened the Great Hall door. “Let’s see if we can get the nephew to tell us something more.”

Tobias led the way, glanced along the table and into the shadows at each end, then made his way around and into the main room. He jerked to a halt. “Who the hell?” He trotted to a prone figure, face down in the middle of the hall.

Albert, huffing, drew up beside him as he squatted to get a closer look.

“It’s Bauer.” Tobias put fingertips to Bauer’s neck, but the pulse wasn’t there. His hand grazed a red silk scarf. The scarf, a faint scent, and confusion washed over him. August. She’d worn a red scarf the first time he’d seen her.

“He’s dead?”

“Very.”

Jake nodded, but all he could concentrate on were Penny’s last words before the officer appeared. When they were alone again, he threw up his hands. “What do you mean, go back to Phoenix? Why the hell would I do that? My sister’s been murdered, and I want to find out why.”

She turned her back on him, went to the open door of the bathroom, and lifted her clothes from the hook. Beneath the thin, hospital gown her spine was straight, her movements tight, as if coiled and ready to spring.

“Penny, I know how much she meant to you.” How much she meant to both of them. He wanted to hold her, share their loss. “I’m not leaving you.”

Untying the gown, she let it drop around her feet, and sidestepped out of the heap. She pulled the dark gray sweater over her head then stepped into black velvet jeans. She wouldn’t make eye contact, wouldn’t speak as she sat on the green plastic chair.

This was killing him. He needed to hold her, help her with her pain—his pain. Haltingly, he made his way to her, touched her head, and waited while she zipped her boots. “Penny.” She resisted, but he tipped her chin, forcing her to look up. “Come on, baby. You don’t have to worry about me leaving you.”

“You will.”

“No—”

“When I tell you the truth, you will.”

One Week to Win Her Boss by @BarbaraWDaille and @entangledpub #holidayromance #bookreview

OWtWHB - Barbara White Daille

Title: One Week to Win Her Boss

Author: Barbara White Daille

Genre: Holiday Romance, Contemporary Romance

Book Blurb:

Single mom Amber Barnett loves family, kids, Christmas…and unfortunately, her boss, confirmed bachelor Michael DeFranco. It’s a crush she really needs to get over. Except, when she’s temporarily forced from her apartment, her only option is to stay at Michael’s private ski lodge, where she’s the housekeeper. No problem. Her handsome boss rarely visits Snowflake Valley unexpectedly, plus he’s spending the holidays with his family. Or so she thinks…

A stormy Christmas Eve reunion leaves Michael seeking the solitude of his lodge, where he finds Amber in residence—and in trouble. Attempting to save her from her matchmaking family, he announces they’re a couple. His good deed backfires when they’re instantly included in each and every holiday event in town. So much for solitude.

Only the more time he spends with the beautiful, cheery brunette, the more he yearns to make things real between them. But he and Amber want different things, and Michael could never be the family man she’s looking for.

My Review:

Amber’s one of the unlucky Barnett sisters. She’s got horrible instincts when it comes to men, especially her ex-husband. He left her high and dry with a baby on the way. She’s a single mom with an infant daughter and struggling to make ends meet. Forced out of her apartment temporarily, she decides to stay at the ski lodge she works as a housekeeper. She just wants some peace and quiet, not to mention a reprieve from her daughter’s colic. But all that changes when her boss, Michael DeFranco, walks in the front door and Penny starts to cry.

Tired of the nightmare that is his family, all Michael wants is the solitude of his private ski lodge. He walks in to the surprised shriek of his housekeeper and her infant baby. So much for hibernating alone. While Amber evades his questions about why she’s there, Michael’s bound and determined to get to the bottom of it. The last thing he expected to find when he came to Snowflake Valley was his very own Christmas angel. Can Amber and Penny change his feelings on family, Christmas and marriage or will he be Snowflake Valley’s own Scrooge?

I love holiday romances and this one is a gem. From the first scene, Amber and Michael are at odds with each other yet at the same time, drawn to one another. Their chemistry is sizzling no matter how hard they try to fight it. Barbara White Daille weaves a heart-wrenching story about two wounded hearts begging to be healed, all against the backdrop of a small town at Christmastime. There’s plenty of challenges they must overcome in order to be together. My favorite scene has to be the snowball fight. Hilarious! Highly recommend!

Disclaimer: I received an ARC from Entangled Publishing via Netgalley in the hopes I’d review it.

Favorite Character/Quote: “That was what he’d always found different about her. What she had brought into his life from the day he had met her. Her sparkling eyes. Her sunny smile. Her light. They kept his thoughts coming back to her no matter how hard he fought them, no matter how many times he reminded himself she was off-limits.”

My Rating: 5 stars

All I Want for Christmas is… A Sheikh for Christmas by @leslienorthbook #romance #giveaway

A Sheikh for Christmas
Leslie North
(All I Want for Christmas is…, #1)
Publication date: December 7th 2017
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

It may be cold outside, but the snow begins to melt when an unlikely couple comes together during the Holidays…

Christmas is right around the corner, but after creating a society scandal, New York heiress Melody Hascall-Ebons has nowhere to turn. Cut off by her family for running away with an actor—who turned out to be using her for publicity—Mel is penniless, homeless, and disgraced. There’s only one place to go, and that’s back to the fiancé she ditched. But instead of her ex, she finds his friend Daveed Rafik. The handsome military translator disarms Mel with his easy smile and surprising sympathy. But as she struggles to get her life on track, the last thing Mel needs is to fall into the strong arms of her ex-fiancé’s best friend.

Counter-terrorism expert Sheikh Daveed Rafik has spent his career dealing with delicate and dangerous situations, but none of them compares to Melody Hascall-Ebons. He’s supposed to be helping his friend Murphy find his missing sister, not consoling the spoiled rich girl who dumped their buddy Heath. But the more he learns about Melody, the more he likes. With her unexpected intelligence and distinctive beauty, Melody calls to him in powerful ways. But when the woman he is arranged to marry shows up, Daveed’s highly organized life suddenly gets very complicated.

The streets of New York are steeped in holiday cheer, but can Daveed and Melody thaw the ice around their hearts enough to make room for love?

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / iBooks

EXCERPT:

Melody watched him walk away beneath her damp lashes. She’d never really paid much attention to Daveed before. He’d been one of Heath’s friends and always hanging around the periphery of their group, but had sort of kept to himself. Now, though, he’d come to her aid in her hour of need—or more like day of desperation—and a girl couldn’t ignore such chivalry.

As the silence between them grew more awkward by the second, she got up and wandered over to the table, which was covered by papers and post-it notes. Daveed didn’t look up at her at all, so she finally pulled out a chair and sat, forcing a tremulous smile. “What are you doing?”

“Huh?” Daveed glanced up at her with a frown, as if just then remembering she was still there. “Oh, making lists. It’s how I keep track of everything I’ve got going on and my responsibilities.”

“Oh.” She picked up one yellow square and squinted at this illegible scrawl before he snatched it away from her.

“Please, don’t touch anything. These are all very important.”

“Right.” She’d never been big on lists or organization herself. Her mother had always had a social secretary to take care of most things for her and when that failed, then Melody preferred to “wing it.” For her life was all about spontaneity, but then again, given how this whole situation with Jefferson Hanks had turned out, maybe planning and consideration was the way to go. While Daveed said nothing more, scowling down at his notes again, she studied him more. Honestly, she really didn’t know the guy very well.

From what Heath had told her, Daveed Rafik had served alongside him and their other friend, Murphy Coen, in the Middle East. Melody had always thought of Daveed as a sort of an Arabic James Bond type from the way Heath had bragged about the guy. He graduated Yale at the top of his class, spoke five languages fluently, and thwarted terrorists in a single bound, all without firing a single weapon.

Now, however, as he wrote furiously, his dark brows knit in concentration, she took her first real look at the guy. She’s noticed when he’d first answered the door that he was tall and well-muscled. As she sat beside him at the table, his dark brown hair curled above the collar of his white button-down shirt and reflected hints of gold beneath the lights. Yep. He was gorgeous, no doubt about it. If you went for the romance-novel cover sheikh type. Which she didn’t, at least not up to this point.

Author Bio:

Leslie North is the pen name for a critically-acclaimed author of women’s contemporary romance and fiction. The anonymity gives her the perfect opportunity to paint with her full artistic palette, especially in the romance and erotic fantasy genres.

The truth of the matter is she loves her fictional persona, Leslie North, more than her normal, day-to-day persona! Her bestselling books focus on strong characters and particularly women who aren’t afraid to challenge an alpha male. Inspired after years of travel, her stories are set all over the world, from the tough streets of Russia to the beautiful beaches of the middle east.

Leslie fell in love with romance when she first picked up a scrappy, dog-eared romance book from her local library. She began writing soon after and the rest, as they say, was history. She now lives in a cozy cottage on the British coast and enjoys taking long walks with her two Dalmatians, George and Fergie.

The House-Sitter’s Christmas: A Romantic Fairy Tale by Jean Joachim

At Christmas, Laura Fleming lived her fantasy adventure. Paid to house-sit for the fabulously wealthy financier, C.W. Banley, while he traveled, she eagerly headed for New York City. As mistress of his elegant townhouse, she baked cookies and dressed the old gent’s richly-furnished residence for the holidays.

As December rolled around, the lonely, lovely writer eagerly anticipated soaking up the Christmas atmosphere in the grand city. With only the cat for company, she’d turn Banley’s elegant home into a wonderland of sparkling lights, fragrant garland, and shiny tinsel.

Every year, she wished, in vain, for a happy ending. Will this be the year that Miss Fleming discovers her dreams can come true, even in a big city, like New York?

A sweet, New York City Christmas Fairy Tale novella.

CAUTION: As in any fairy tale, there is some violence in this story, and some cursing, as well, but no sex.

Nina, a former actress, is now a beautiful and wealthy widow…and more than a little lonely, especially during a glorious Christmas in New York City.

A chance meeting brings them together. Their passion for the stage joins their minds while love blossoms, despite their age gap. The theater, that once united them, may be the one hurdle they can’t clear. An unexpected roadblock tests Clint’s love. Will he make the ultimate compromise to see his name in lights on Broadway?

Winter Spice: A Spicy Winter Short Story Collection by Vanessa Liebe

What are girls made of? Sugar and spice and everything nice, right? With winter in full swing and Christmas fast approaching, it could be that each of them—an undisciplined twenty-something, a kiss-o-gram for hire, a student cleaning houses for extra cash, and a debutante—needs that little extra Winter Spice in their lives.

With a firm hand, the men in their lives add just the perfect amount of hot ginger to the vanilla and these five ladies soon receive an unexpected, but especially warming gift from the man in their lives. When it’s all said and done, they might just end up thinking, “Be careful what you wish for.”

Publisher’s Note: This collection of erotic short stories includes spankings, sexual scenes, elements of BDSM, and more.

The last thing Nick wants is to spend a cozy Christmas Eve with a trio of kids and the woman who dumped him. But as much as Lyssa frustrates him, he can’t stop thinking about her. Excerpt

Movement from the bed startled her, and she turned to find Beau lying on his back, his hand pushing through his hair, those gorgeous emerald eyes blinking the sleep away. Propping himself up on his elbows, he squinted, whether from curiosity or adjusting to the dark. “Maddie?”

His scent nearly overwhelmed her. It was a mixture of his signature cologne, body heat and maybe testosterone, a gene all his own. He was so male. So big and strong with an elegance of movement that belied his size. It had made him a star without even trying. It was just… Beau.

Maddie. No one called her that but him, and mostly during their lovemaking. He seemed… vulnerable somehow, his expression open. She eased down onto the bed next to him. Her hand disobeyed and she reached out to stroke his hair back from his eyes. She wanted to look at them, at him. God, she was so hungry for him, it was a wonder her stomach didn’t growl. And yet, she steeled herself for his rejection.

His head angled and he pressed his cheek into her palm. His eyes closed. He was hot. Vic had said he’d picked up a bug. She knew he would not take kindly to coddling so she didn’t mention it. Those eyes so like the color of gems sparkled, lowered to her mouth. She licked her lips. When he didn’t move and didn’t quit staring, she leaned forward.

She couldn’t not.

Her eyes met his as their lips touched and he groaned from somewhere deep in his chest. He took the kiss deeper immediately, angling his head and scooting closer to put his weight on one arm and place his other behind her to pull her into him.

His chest pressed tight against hers, his tongue pushed into her mouth, commanding she open and give as much as she received. Always. He never did anything halfway and demanded the same. She gave herself up to the feel of him; he was so close, and it had been so long.

His hand left her neck and she almost cried out, No, but then it was slipping up under her sweater, beneath her bra to take her breast in his palm. She kissed him harder, sucked his tongue into her mouth, needing to be closer. His hand stilled suddenly and her mind cried out, No, don’t stop!

Fukushima and the Coming Tokyo Earthquake by Tony Smyth #BookReview #EarthScience #Japan

Fukushima

Title: Fukushima and the Coming Tokyo Earthquake: and what it will mean for a fragile world economy

Author: Tony Smyth

Genre: Earth Sciences, Earthquakes, Economics

Book Blurb:

This book tells the tale of two large earthquakes, one that took place in 2011, another imminent, both located in Japan. They will have a major impact on future use of nuclear energy, and also on over-indebted and increasingly fragile world economies.

Using Japanese sources, the book depicts the cultural patterns and assumptions, as well as absence of accountability, in the period before and after the earthquake of March 11th, 2011.

The following chapters ‘chunk up’, examining the economic and political consequences of using nuclear power. Further chapters detail the benefits and disadvantages of both nuclear and renewable energy in a world where greenhouse gases accumulating in the atmosphere are increasingly harmful to the earth’s climate and ecosystems.

Japanese economic, bureaucratic and political power is concentrated at the head of Tōkyō Bay. Over one third of Japanese imports and exports are routed through that bay. Official complacency and a failure to adequately prepare for an earthquake there mean that such an event will have significant consequences.

A catastrophic earthquake near Tokyo will likely precipitate repatriation of overseas assets and loss of access to Japan’s hi-tech products, products vital to an interconnected world economy.

Fukushima and the coming Tokyo Earthquake looks back on recent events that have deeply affected one of world’s most advanced countries, but it also looks forward to future possibilities, where the interaction of nature’s power, changing energy sources, and human action will determine our joint futures.

Tony Smyth has lived in Tokyo for 37 years.

My Review:

This is an extraordinarily well written fact filled book.

The author provides excellent intense detail surrounding the Fukushima earthquake and the nuclear disaster aftermath.  I was always left wondering how homeless and down on their luck men were thrust into radioactive zones right after to do ‘clean up’.

This book details the quiet factor that lays under nearly every layer of Japanese Society. Organized Crime.  For any who think the ‘Mob’ is being defeated – read this book – it is alive and thriving in Japan.  The scandalous reaction of the Japanese rulers and Nuclear Energy Group to the meltdown is tied intricately to Japanese custom.

I found this book thought provoking, jarring and yet still an easy read.  The book details what happened in 2011 and what will yet happen when a big earthquake hits Tokyo (it’s about 25 years overdo).  The discussion as to what alternatives for energy the world has goes back over well trodden ground:  fossil Fuel/nuclear/renewable alternatives.  Not unlike the book I read on solar power a few years back, the issues with this discussion often are heavily weighed down with politics, money and big business.

Anyone concerned with the future of the planet in general and nuclear energy  in particular must read this great book.

Disclaimer: I received an ARC from the author in the hopes I’d review it.

My Rating: 5 stars

Author Biography:

Tony Smyth was born in the northwest of England and grew up in Ireland. After partial completion of a Commerce Degree in Dublin, he moved to the UK where he earned a Fine Arts degree at Northumbria University in 1976. After two years doing graphic design at the local transport company, he traveled and worked in the United States, before arriving in Japan in March 1980. Apart from a few years in Europe, he has lived in Tokyo since that time.

He initially studied Japanese language in Tokyo, before switching to shiatsu and acupuncture. He then studied acupuncture in Beijing, receiving advanced level certification in 1985. He got married to Tomoko Sakamoto the following year, and in 1988 they founded a language school in Ebisu, Tokyo, which lasted 10 years, until Japans long recession became severe.

In 1998 and 1999 studied Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) in Winter Park, Colorado. He has since done other NLP study in New York and the UK, as well as a hypnotherapy course in Stratford on Avon, England. He has a NLP/hypnotherapy practice in Tokyo (hypnonlp-tokyo.weebly.com).

Over the years, Tony has taught English at many companies in the Tokyo area, including Mizuho Bank, Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Honda Motor Company, Goldman Sachs, as well as government ministries. He currently teaches English to bureaucrats at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He lives with his wife Tomoko in an apartment with splendid views of the south and west of Tokyo and Mount Fuji, plays the board game Go (badly), reads incessantly (mostly non-fiction), and, like many from Dublin, is a lifelong fan of Manchester United.

A second book which broadens and follows on from the themes in the final chapters of Fukushima and the coming Tokyo Earthquake is already being researched, and is intended to be a ‘companion’ book to the Fukushima/quake book.

Five things you may not know about me:

I have walked on fire several times.

I was in Tokyo when the sarin gas was released on the subways.

I am a wedding celebrant, conducting Christian weddings in polite Japanese.

I have seen a sky burial in Tibet.

In 1983, I smoked opium with a hill tribe in the forests of northern Thailand. Just two years earlier they saw their first Caucasian, and thought he was a ghost!

An Interview with Anya Drake From For Their Sins by @RTranBooks #paranormal #vampire #IARTG

For Their Sins

I had the opportunity to sit down with Anya Drake, the so-called villain in Alexandria Diego’s tell-all memoir For Their Sins. Anya swears she is misunderstood and asked for a chance to share her side with the world.

“Can you tell the audience a little about yourself?” I asked Anya urging her to open up.

Anya smiled and stared at me a moment considering what she would say, “My real name in Anica Golescu I was born in 1398. I died 16 years later. My maker was the first Mordere, what you would call a vampire although, he was so much more. I turned my lover, Vlad the Impaler, into a Mordere. Then we killed my maker for his infinite cruelty. It was then that I changed my name to Anya Drake to remove any reminders of the past.

Vlad and I longed for a world where Mordere no longer lived in fear of the Venandi. They are God’s chosen warrior’s, who hunt us for sport. To that end, we were building our numbers when they stormed our castle. Vlad was killed, and I swore vengeance.  Now one Venandi stands in my way at every turn. Alexandria Diego must die.” Anya was near shouting and tried to get out of her chair. Her eyes were glassy as she looked at me.

I swallowed hard worried for a moment. I put a hand on Anya’s arm to calm her, and it was ice cold. Anya looked down at it and smiled as she sank back into her chair. I tried a different type of question hoping she wouldn’t get upset again. “What is your idea of perfect happiness?”

Anya licked her lips before answering, “Finding a perfectly innocent human, wrapping them in my arms and biting into their neck. Their blood washes over my tongue like the nectar of the gods. It’s sweet metallic and fragrant, better than an orgasm at times.” She gave a little shiver and stared at me. I felt like lunch.

I quickly fired off another question hoping to distract her, “On what occasion do you lie?”

Anya laughed slightly making her deep brown curls bounce “Do I need an occasion? Lying is part of life. It comes as naturally as breathing.”

“What do you most dislike about your appearance?” I asked hoping to find some redeeming quality in her.

Anya snorted her displeasure, “Is there something I should dislike? I’m more attractive than any human that’s for damn sure. As a matter of fact, I think I’m rather perfect. Any flaws I had were fixed when I fed from my maker.”

I was beginning to wonder if I was sane when I took this interview. “If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be?”

“I already did that stupid,” Anya was annoyed. “Vampire remember?”

“Right, sorry.” It was hard to believe she really was what she claimed she looked so normal. “When and where were you happiest?” I asked trying to get something real out of her.

“August 20, 1414, in a small inn in my hometown on my wedding night.” She smiled wistfully before looking away.

“Who was he? What happened to him?” I wondered if she’d tell me.

“Radu, my first love. I drank him dry not knowing what I was.” I saw the pain in her eyes even if she wouldn’t admit it. “I could have changed him, but he wouldn’t have been Radu, and I would have had to share him with my maker. He was best off dead.” Her voice went cold as she stared at me.

I got goosebumps and decided to let that matter rest. I pressed on hoping to end the interview and get out of there while I could. “Alright, Anya one more question, please. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?”

“I wouldn’t have accepted my maker’s offer. I wouldn’t be a Mordere.” She looked truly repentant. Her eyes were wet like she was going to cry. I got out of my chair and took a step towards her then another. She lunged at me and grabbed me by the waist. “Ah, who am I kidding, I love what I am.”

As a side note, I woke up in the hospital a day later. Anya was nowhere to be found, and her number was disconnected.

Title: For Their Sins

Author: Rebecca Tran

Genre: Paranormal Fantasy/ Action&Adventure

Publisher: Hoffmann & Hoffmann

Book Blurb:

“You must know what I am and what I have lived through to understand what I did, why I would risk everything, including myself for one male.”

Alexandria Diego never wanted to be special. She was content to lay in bed with her lover forever. One decision will change everything. Suddenly, Alexandria is launched into a life of infamy, which carries a heavy burden that only she can bear. When a vicious war between her people, the Venandis, and their rivals, the Morderes, breaks out it forces Alexandria to change her tactics and be more cautious. But, when her love is captured by the enemy, Alexandria risks everything to get him back.

Excerpt:

Anya was waiting for me when I entered the room, lounging on a velvet sofa with silk pillows, looking rather pale. Her deep brown curls were only half pinned up the rest spilled over her breasts that were bound in a tightly laced black corset. She wore black well cut pants and low heeled boots. A gleaming sword lay within easy reach, but her feet were up on a stool, and she showed no sign of getting up as I approached. “Alexandria,” she said in greeting as if we were old friends.

“Anya,” I replied with contempt.

“You look a little out of breath perhaps you’d like a seat.”

“I thought that was the point of five ill-trained goons, to wear me out. Why offer a seat now?”

“A show of hospitality.” She shrugged.

“Where is he, Anya?” I nearly growled.

She gave a cruel smile “The Venandi you knew no longer exists.”

“I know you’ve tainted him I don’t care.”

“He’s under my control. It’s my blood he craves and my bed he wants.”

“Give him back you cold-hearted bitch.”

“Tsk tsk, Alexandria. We are matriarchs of our peoples to fight over one male seems pointless.” Anya said as if bored.

“You did this to draw me out. Now I’m here, so let’s get this over with.” I demanded.

She was on her feet with sword drawn every bit as fast as a Venandi. “As you wish.”

We fought endlessly back and forth neither of us gaining or losing ground. The sound of metal clashing became a metallic hum in the air that sang to me, focusing my thoughts. In the midst of it all, I found him, my love, my match. I called out to him with my thoughts and felt him approach although, the reason felt wrong and it worried me. What if it were true? What if he was lost to me?  Then he came into the room, and I knew the truth. Anya moved into my guard, and her sword cut my side. My sword fell. She grabbed me.

As Anya’s teeth sunk into my throat, I heard him call my name “Alexandria, NO!” My eyes slid closed as a tear slid down my cheek.

This was the turning point for my people and me. But, you must know what I am and what I have lived through to understand what I did, why I would risk everything, including myself for one male. I am Alexandria Diego, and this is my story.

Excerpt:

Storm paced his room. Why on earth had he let Coach talk him into being Brittiany’s date? He wasn’t fit—ready—to be with normal people and do normal things. He liked his privacy and working on the ranch with little interaction with others. All he wanted out of life right now was to keep his head down and do his job while he took the time to sort out his life. Leaving the Army hadn’t been easy for him. He hadn’t expected to feel so empty, lost, and purposeless with his return to civilian life. It was like he didn’t even know how to behave in a social setting. He’d done just fine socially, before the Army.

How dare Coach play the ‘she needs protection’ card. His friend knew the second he reminded him of that, of the threats to the family, he’d easily agree to go on this date with Brittiany so that he could keep an eye on Peyton.

It just figured that Coach and his dad were in Chicago this weekend meeting with some of their development partners or Coach could be the one going on this date with Brittiany. Not that going on a date with Brittiany was a hardship—for a normal person that is—because she seemed like a nice woman, pretty too. But Storm just wasn’t feeling it. He wasn’t ready to be among the normal.

Storm stood in front of the mirror and tugged at the sleeve of his suit, Coach’s suit. He wasn’t quite sure what one wore to the country club for dinner, but he guessed it was nothing he had in his closet, so he’d raided Coach’s.

He swallowed down the anxiety in his throat, spun, and exited his room. The thump of his dress shoes against the hardwood floor echoed less than when he wore his cowboy boots. But even with the noise, he still preferred the boots.

At the foot of the steps, he waited for Peyton. He glanced at his watch. They were good on time yet. They didn’t have to meet the rest of the group at the club until six. Cocktails first, then dinner.

The light click of heels on the stairs drew his attention. His heart slammed in his chest, and his mouth went dry. In the past year, he’d seen her dressed nicely plenty of times to go to the club, but the radiant beautiful sight he saw before him now stole his breath. He’d always thought she was pretty and liked her, but since she’d touched him the other day, she was all he could think about, day in and day out. Whether his eyes were open or closed, visions of her lovely smile, milky white skin, and dark, spellbinding eyes consumed him.

Squinting, Ziva tried to see who’d spoken in a deep, smooth-as-silk British accent.

A tall man stood before her and greeted her with an alluring, lopsided smile that exuded confidence. Kind eyes crinkled at the corners.

His broad shoulders were clad in a navy, tailored business suit. With his thick hair, a rich, burnt umber colour, slicked back off his forehead, and an angular, clean-shaven jaw, the guy could have stepped off the set of a TV advert for men’s cologne. And his lips… oh boy, his lips. Full, well-defined, and made for sinning.

Her mouth dried. Kuala Lumpur grew more interesting by the second.

Elise filled in for her temporary inability to speak. “No, we haven’t. My sister failed to mention Pavilion or Lot 10. I’m afraid she doesn’t share my love for shopping.”

Surprise flashed across his face before his smile widened then hitched higher in one corner. Yep, male model material. Just my luck if he’s gay.

Elise shifted from one foot to the other and adjusted her hold on her dozen or so shopping bags. “Are the malls far?”
“No, not far. They’re near the Golden Triangle part of the city.”

Ziva stifled another groan. More malls, right near where they were staying.

The guy tipped his head. “I’m Sam, by the way.” Sophisticated charm oozed from every pore. “It’s lovely to meet two beautiful English roses so far from home.” Although he spoke to both of them, he directed an intense gaze at Ziva. Mischievous cobalt eyes sparkled in the bright sunlight then he winked at her. Hmm, not gay then.

“Hi, I’m Elise,” her sister said, sticking out her chest. “Nice to meet you, too.” She shuffled her feet again. “My feet are roasting standing here.”

Ziva glanced at Elise’s unsuitable choice of footwear as she stood on a drain cover. “I’m not surprised your feet are hot. It’s ninety-five degrees and you’re wearing high-heeled boots. I told you to wear your flat sandals.”

Elise rolled her eyes. “Flat sandals do not go with this outfit,” she said resignedly. “Kuala Lumpur is home to some of the best shopping malls in South East Asia—who cares about a little discomfort?”

“So, you were listening when I read out the tourist brochure and the amazing places I’d like to visit.”

“No, not really.” Elise gave an apologetic shrug. “I heard ‘shopping malls’ mostly.”

Sam laughed. His attention never left Ziva. “And your name is…?”

The crowd surged forward to cross the road. Someone jostled past Ziva, accidentally knocking her elbow. Her tatty canvas handbag and her one and only shopping bag dropped to the ground. She gasped as her new lingerie tumbled onto the dusty pavement. “Oh, crap!”

Stooping to her haunches, she then hastily stuffed lacy bras and matching thongs back into the paper bag. Her blonde curls tumbled over her face, helping to hide cheeks that burned hotter than the pavement. A serious contender for Miss Tiny Tits UK, she’d been spoiled for choice when she’d seen that the malls in KL catered for smaller women, so she’d treated herself to a few items of sexy underwear. Not that she had an occasion to wear it, but still, the last thing she needed was to have it displayed for all to see.

Sam kneeled in front of her, picked up a black bra, and swung it on his finger. “Here, I think you missed one.”

Head still down, she reached for the bra, but he hooked his finger around the strap and held it firm. She tugged. “Let go.”

“Not until you tell me your name.” He tugged back, stretching the lace and elastic across the distance between them. “And not until you look at me.”

BLURB

A jealousy that destroys everything in its path…a love that refuses to die.

Zoey Morgan seems to have it all as a successful surgeon in Boston. However, perfection lies only on the surface. Plagued by nightmares and amnesia from a tragedy that ripped her family from her fourteen years ago, she finds the courage to reach out to the only man who can make her feel safe. She’s buried the memory of their love, but her heart—and her body—responds to the ex-marine in ways that are all too familiar.

Grayson “Gray” Walker’s heart shattered when Zoey chose another man over him. Since then, he’s built an impenetrable wall around his emotions. But from the moment she implodes back into his life, her vulnerability breaches his defenses. His skills as an elite member of the King Security team cannot shield him from the devastation of learning he might have left Zoey high and dry when she needed him most. Now, Gray must navigate the tripwire of helping her heal while protecting himself from being hurt again.

As the embers of their potent love reignite, an old threat awakens, leading to greater danger than ever before.

EXCERPT

Gray’s hands balled into fists. He wanted to punch the walls. “Take me to her. Now!”

“You need to control yourself, Mr. Walker.”

Rage joined the sick fear churning inside him and he glared at the doctor. She didn’t flinch. Her face held no judgment, but her steady gaze also gave no quarter. Gray found it anchored him, offering him no alternative but to deal with the reality slamming into him. The rigidity in his body eased. Doctor Wells nodded slightly, and in a cool, precise voice, continued. “Given Miss Morgan’s concussion and the yet unidentified drug in her system, we would prefer not to administer any more sedatives.”

Ping!

The doors opened and they stepped out. She led them down another corridor and stopped outside a numbered ward. “Mr. Walker—”

“It’s Gray.”

“Okay, Gray.” She clasped her hands in front of her. “Zoey is extremely agitated. To calm her, you need to find the calmness within yourself.” Her probing stare insisted on a response.

He nodded sharply.

“She’s on the edge of hysteria and in danger of hurting herself. If you cannot calm her, we will be forced to sedate her for her own safety.”

Zoey!

Gray’s heart hammered wildly. He closed his eyes, and for the first time since he’d raced into the ED, let her image surface.

His beautiful red butterfly. Mercurial and brilliant. Her dark-copper hair alight with so many fiery streaks, he was constantly amazed it didn’t singe his skin. The curly length was unexpectedly soft, so goddamn sexy when it slipped like satin through his fingers. But as much as he loved her hair, it was her eyes that endlessly beguiled him. Tapered like a cat, they were vivid-green with a golden ring around her pupil. A fascinating combination of sex-kitten and innocent, and such an integral part of her expressive nature. There were times he thought they were too large for her heart-shaped face, but then she’d laugh and they’d turn that intense jewel-like green. Wicked. Infectious. Or she’d whimper with desire, and the golden ring would leak into the green. Hot and slumberous. Untamed.

“Gray?”

He opened his eyes, forcing Zoey’s image back into darkness. “Take me to her.” He met the doctor’s unblinking scrutiny. “Please.”
