Patience is Nothing More Than Having a Good Attitude While Waiting! #inspiration #ThursdayThoughts

Patience-quote

Do you hate waiting as much as I do?

I’ve never been good at waiting, especially for something I’ve been wanting to do/see/experience. I remember when I was an early teenager and I got the opportunity to meet my crush, Kirk Cameron. This was the high point of my life, up until then, and I was the biggest Growing Pains fan in my town. My grandmother and I stood in line for what seemed like an eternity, but was only probably three hours. When it was my turn, I nearly fainted.

“What’s your name?” Kirk asked with a smile.

I told him and handed him a picture of him to sign.

He did a double-take. I had an unusual spelling.

“With a N?” he asked.

I felt my cheeks burning. I couldn’t believe I was talking to Kirk Cameron, the boy I had been dreaming about for years. All I could do is nod.

“Wow, what a beautiful name.” He bent down and autographed the Teen Beat picture. When he handed it back to me, he spoke softly, “A beautiful name for a beautiful girl.”

I giggled and lowered my eyes. I was shy and didn’t know what to say. When my grandmother nudged me, I blurted out, “T-t-thank you. You’re my dream…”

He chuckled and I giggled harder.

We left after that and I’ll never forget his kindness. He was a celebrity yet took the time to make a shy teenage girl’s year. His framed autographed picture sat in my room until I graduated high school. It was one of my most prized possessions and it wouldn’t have been possible without patience.

Patience is hard, especially when it’s something you really want. I struggle with patience on a daily basis. It takes a lot of effort for me to silence the inner critic and focus on keeping a positive attitude.  The ironic thing is when you focus on your attitude rather than the waiting, patience becomes a little easier.

What do you do when waiting? Are you patient? Any tips on patience?

Share in the comments below and let’s help each other be more patient.

Patience: It’s About Attitude #inspiration #motivation #patience

Patience-quote

I have a confession to make. My biggest weakness (besides chocolate and a good Cab Sav) is I’m not very patient. Patience is something I struggle with every day.

Last year, I saw this quote from Joyce Meyers and it changed my perspective on patience.

I was concentrating so much on the act of waiting that I was missing out on the journey.

I started meditating/praying on what I wanted to accomplish in life every morning. At the end of my session, I whispered, “I release all my worrying and anxiety with this prayer. I will focus on the journey and those around me.”

And you know what? It really helped. Choosing every day to focus on the journey and not on the waiting allowed me to experience things I would’ve otherwise missed.

I still struggle with patience but it’s getting easier. 🙂

Are you patient? Do you have any advice on being more patient?

Share in the comments below. I’d love to find new ways to be patient.

Are you facing FRF?

What’s FRF, you might be asking yourself.

Fear

Risk

Failure

We all face FRF and these three gigantic boulders block our path. They impede us from achieving our dreams and living an amazing life.

So, is it hopeless? Are we stuck and are doomed to lead a boring life?

NO WAY!

We have three secret weapons and it’s inside us.

Determination

Hard work

Perseverance

When we use our secret weapons, nothing can stand in our way! The boulders get smashed into little pebbles and all we have to do is walk over them.

The amazing can only be created by facing fear, risk, failure during the process.

Be amazing!!!

Be Kind to Unkind People #inspiration #kindness #motivation

unkind

Happy Friday everyone! Today, we’re talking about kindness.

When you meet an unkind person, what do you do?

Do you spread kindness or do you respond with the same unkindness?

There’s some people in the world who believe in treating people in the same manner as they’re treated. You know, an eye for an eye sort of philosophy.

My philosophy is a little different. I’m kind no matter what. I figure they may be having the worst day ever and the least I can do is spread some light. 🙂

Be kind to unkind people. They need it most.

Path Versus Destination #inspiration #motivation #determination

stormy

Life is filled with storms. Most of us think of storms as a bad thing but in reality, it’s all part of the journey. Think about it this way: We wouldn’t have the Grand Canyon without the Ice Age. Glaciers covered the world and it was bitterly cold. When the ice finally receded, they left behind the breath-taking beauty we call the Grand Canyon.

Are you in the midst of a storm right now?

Take out your umbrella and stay dry. Brace yourself and remember this:

Don’t confuse your path with your destination. Just because it’s stormy now doesn’t mean that you aren’t headed for sunshine.

Fly Against the the Wind #inspiration #Mondaymotivation #Mondayblogs

Against the wind

Are you having a bad day, week, month, year?

I’ve been there. You try with all your might to deal with it and wind up battered and wanting to give up.

When life gets the best of me, I think of an airplane. We’ve all ridden in one. As a passenger, we don’t notice the amount of energy it takes to get the airplane in the air. It has to take off against the wind and trust me, that’s a lot of force.

What are you going through? Are the odds stacked up against you? Do you shake your fist in the air and shout, “I can’t take anymore!”?

The reality is that you can deal with anything. You’re stronger than you give yourself credit for. You are a giant 747 and you’re about the take off from the nearest airport. Stand with your feet shoulder-length apart and face the wind.

You can conquer whatever life throws at you!!!

When everything seems to going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.

Did you know you are a strong soldier?

No?

It’s true! In fact, you are one of the elite, a member of the strongest soldiers the world has ever seen! You have battled and overcome the fiercest enemy on the planet: self-doubt. No matter what happens in life, you are victorious!

Wait a minute…

What do you mean I must be talking about someone else?

*Points to you* YOU are in the SEALS of life!

Every obstacle you defeat, every stumbling block you kick out of the way, it’s all part of your war record.

Think back at all you have been through and then think of how you can battle this current skirmish. Nothing can defeat you!

Be Yourself #inspiration #Mondayblogs #positiveaffirmations

One of the biggest life lessons I learned was to be myself. I grew up thinking that I needed to act a certain way to fit into society. The truth is all I had to be is myself.

How about you? Do you struggle with this same issue?

When the world tries to smoosh you into a cookie-cutter image, push back and say, “NO!” You are a beautiful person just the way you are! Be original and yourself.

The biggest challenge in life is to be yourself in a world that is trying to make you like everyone else.

Laughter is Good Medicine #AprilFoolsDay #laughter #inspiration

laughter

I’m a big proponent of laughing! In fact, I highly recommend it. It works wonders and is clearly the best medicine.

Today is April Fool’s Day and while I don’t participate in practical jokes, I love to laugh! So in spirit of the day, here are few seasonal jokes to make you laugh:

Q: Can February March? A: No, but April May!

Q: Why is everyone so tired on April 1? A: Because they’ve just finished a long, 31 day March!

Q: What do you get when you pour hot water down a rabbit hole? A: A hot cross bunny

Spring Fever: Four high school boys afflicted with spring fever skipped morning classes. After lunch they reported to the teacher that they had a flat tire.

Much to their relief she smiled and said, “Well, you missed a test today so take seats apart from one another and take out a piece of paper.”

Still smiling, she waited for them to sit down. Then she said: “First Question: Which tire was flat?”

Find What Makes You Unique and Hold Onto It #MondayBlogs #affirmations #identity

major league II

I watched Major League II last night and there was a scene that really stuck with me. Rick Vaughn (Charlie Sheen) is a pitcher struggling to get out of a slump and doesn’t know what to do. He chucked his “Wild Thing” persona in an attempt to be more presentable and lost his ability to pitch effectively. Jake Thomas (Tom Beringer), the manager, knocks on his door. Jake is trying to be supportive and see how his pitcher is holding up under the pressure. The conversation goes something like this:

Jake: I’m gonna need you for a couple of innings from the bullpen.

Rick: I’m ready.

Jake: I mean it. the pitching staff is really worn thin.

Rick: What? Don’t you think I can do it? I can do it.

Jake: Listen Rick, I don’t know what’s happened to you but you’ve gotta find what makes you you and be that person.

(Jake walks out the door and Rick looks at himself in the mirror)

Rick: What a prick.

Rick’s lost his identity when he tried to become something he wasn’t. He tried to over-think baseball and for anyone who has played the game, you know that’s the worst thing you can do.

What makes you unique?

Each of you has a unique set of skills and abilities. You are special and never ever change! Find what makes you unique and hold onto it!

I learned a lot from Major League II last night. As an author and writer, I have been comparing myself to others recently. The truth of the matter is that I am a unique writer and author. I’ve been blessed with the talent to tell a story and inspire others in the process. It took a baseball movie for me to see it.

Never, ever compare yourself to others! There is no one alive or dead who has the same thoughts, feelings and life experiences as you! Be unique!

Take My Hand and Dream of a Peaceful World #inspiration #affirmations #peace

When I was little I was a dreamer. Every night I would dream what life would be like when I was an adult. I’d imagine myself in a variety of jobs and circumstances. The world was open to me and my dreams were endless.

As an adult, I see the world as it is but also what it could be. Inside me, there is still the little girl who dreams of a better world.

What are your dreams?

Have you stashed them away for the cold reality of this world?

In order to change the world, we have to start by dreaming what we want the world to become.

Peace is a term that is thrown around a lot these days. There is so much war and violence it’s hard to imagine peace. John Lennon imagined a world of peace and we can too!

You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us and the world will live as one.

Take my hand and together we’ll dream of a peaceful world! Someday the world will live as one.

#MondayBlogs: Have No Fear! #inspiration #fearless

Have no fear

Is fear holding you back from achieving your dreams?

I used to be afraid of failure. I wouldn’t try new things or go after what I wanted most because I was afraid.

What changed?

I almost died. I was out drinking with this guy and got into a bad car accident. He was driving and wrapped his truck around a light pole.

It was a wake-up call for me. I changed my life from that point on, determined to not waste my life.

What’s holding you back?

Take a moment today and write down ten things you would do in your life if you had absolutely no fear. Think hard and do some soul-searching. Then pick one of them and do it.

I am working on my list right now. Want to know what #1 is?

Share in the comments below what’s one of the ten things on your list. Then check back this afternoon and I will post my #1 in the comments section. 🙂

Be Truthful in All Things #inspiration #affirmations #truth

truthful

Are you truthful?

Would it surprise you to know that the more truthful you are, the stronger you become?

I used to believe that in order to get along with others, I had to be careful of how truthful I was. I didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings or make them feel bad. Let me tell you, it was mentally exhausting. I retreated back inside myself, like a turtle. It wasn’t until I started being truthful with myself and then with others did I start to feel strength.

Now, I must tell you, I don’t mean being truthful entitles you to be cruel and to bully others. Real truth is being honest and voicing your opinion. Here’s an example:

A writer friend of mine asked me to read over his short story and give my honest opinion. Before agreeing I made it clear that I will look it over but I will not lie. If I think it is crap, I will have to be honest. He respected my integrity and I read his short story. This was my reply to him:

I really liked the premise of the short story. There were a few consistency issues but I made some notes for you. I think if you made a few changes, it will be a shoe-in.

See what I did there? I encouraged him while still being honest.

I love this quote by Alanis and the idea of being truthful and vulnerable leads to empowerment. What a novel thought. You don’t think of truth as being powerful but it is. The more truthful you are, the more authentic you are. 🙂

Together, let’s be Truth Seekers!

Have you ever struggled with truthfulness? Share below, as I’d love to hear about your experience!

A Blissful State of Mind #anxiety #inspiration #MondayBlogs

Are you in a blissful state of mind?

What does this mean?

Simply put, being in a blissful state of mind is equal to being in the eye of a storm. While there is chaos and crisis surrounding you, at the center, you are at peace. There is a calm that washes over you.

Life is hectic, crazy even, and the only way to attain peace is to have a blissful state of mind.

I have to go to the dentist this morning. I don’t like going to the dentist. In fact, it makes me nervous and anxious. The only way I get through it is to tap into my blissful state of mind. I try to focus my energies on visualization. I visualize my upcoming summer vacation at the spa hotel.

How do you keep your blissful state of mind when the winds of life come at you?

Try visualization. Think of a peaceful place or something you are looking forward to. Imagine every detail and revel in the peace.

I am!

Winter is trying to stick around as long as possible but Spring is in the air. YAY! This past winter was brutal for so many of us and we are all ready for warmer weather!

I love this quote because it is so positive! Instead of being depressed about the winter weather, it allows us to be optimistic. What a concept! Let’s thank Winter for being harsh because it gives us the opportunity to rejoice Spring.

Life is a lot like baseball. Every morning we put on our uniform and head out to the field of our choice. We warm up and when the clock strikes, we start the game at our position. The outcome doesn’t matter; our determination to try our best and compete is all that counts.

Are you ready to compete, no matter how many curve balls are thrown in your face??

Be like David Wright from the New York Mets.

Whether you have a great game or a terrible game, tomorrow’s another day and you’ve got to come out here and compete.

Here’s the thing, you have the power to be influential and to help others. You may not know how or where, but you have the power.

I love this quote by Roberto Clemente! He was a generous man who came from poverty. He never forgot where he came from and when he wasn’t playing baseball, he was donating his time, money and resources to helping others in his country.

How can you help others?

  • You can volunteer your time at local food banks, charities and/or non-profit organizations.

  • You can donate money in person or online.

  • You can organize a fundraiser with your friends and family to help those less fortunate.

If you have the opportunity in life to make things better, and you don’t, you’re wasting your time on earth.

Are You a Natural Leader? #inspirational #baseball #MondayBlogs

Major League Baseball Spring Training is officially underway. There is a feeling of optimism in the air. Thirty ball clubs have the mindset of this:

If we do our best, we can win the World Series!

I love that kind of thinking! It applies to us mere mortals too.

If we do our best, we can succeed!

I love the quote by Joe DiMaggio.

A person always doing his or her best becomes a natural leader. Just by example.

Are you doing your best? Are you striving to succeed?

There is no magic formula to being a success. According to Joe, all we have to do is our best.

Go out into the world and be the natural leader I know you are! Joe’s counting on you! 😉

Are you seeking true happiness?

Life is a roller coaster and we’re along for the ride. We climb up, fall down, do the loop de loop and screech to a stop. We never know what is coming around the corner. It’s easy to get depressed and cynical.

I’m here to tell you the key to living a happy life is to be in the moment and enjoy whatever you’re going through. It may suck or it be fantastic. Choose to be happy and the world is your beach! 🙂

I’m basking in the present and curling my toes in the sand!

True happiness is… to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future.

“Life is like a mirror, we get the best results when we smile at it.” ~Author Unknown

Happy Friday everyone! Boy, it’s been a long week and I keep hearing a song in my head this morning. Remember that childhood song, “Put on a Happy Face”? I think it came out in the late 70’s. Anyway, it’s rolling around my head.

Have you ever woken up and wanted to go back to bed?

Sure you have and I have too.

What do you do? Do you stay in bed or do you get up, facing the day head-on?

I get up and face the day. I may be exhausted but I have just enough energy to smile. 🙂 You know, it takes more muscles to frown than to smile.

Read the quote above and look at that cool picture. I dare you to not smile while looking at that bright yellow happy face. Go on, stare at it and smile. Oooh, I see that! You can’t hide that lovely smile from me. 😀

No matter what happens today, smile! Be like the yellow happy face and smile at life! 😀

It All Comes Down to Choice #TomBrady #inspiration #NFLCombine

The NFL Combine starts today and it reminds me of the 2000 NFL Draft. A quarterback from Michigan was entering the draft. The scouts didn’t think much of him. In fact, they doubted he would turn out to be much of anything. The draft came and there were six quarterbacks taken ahead of him. They are called the Brady Six. New England took him with the 199th pick. His name was Tom Brady.

Everyone knows who Tom Brady is. Even if you don’t follow the NFL, you know who Tom Brady is. 19 days ago, he won his forth Super Bowl.

I love his quote above and he is my inspirational hero of the day! He made a choice to prove all the naysayers wrong. He worked hard, believed in himself and made the choice each and every day to be the best!

We can learn a lot from him.

Are you making the choice to accept people and situations? Do you believe the negative criticism? Or are you like Tom Brady with a chip on your shoulder, working hard every day to excel and ignoring the critics?

I’ve had some negative criticism lately. I’m choosing to sift through it to see if there is anything I can improve upon. I’m choosing to work my butt off to be the very best MRS N I can be!!!

What do you do when hit with intense criticism?

I say, we make the choice just like Tom Brady. Unleash your inner MVP (Most Valuable Player)! 🙂
