Title: A Chance at Christmas

Author: Beppie Harrison

Genre: Historical Romance, Regency Holiday Romance

Book Blurb:

A Chance at Christmas tells the story of a Christmas that very nearly never happened for Catherine and her younger brother, struggling with poverty and the boy’s serious disabilities. But an invitation does come for a splendid Christmas at a friend’s great house, and Catherine dares to form a plan that might provide a future for her brother. What she never dreams about is a future for herself as well. Can romance come as a shocking Christmas surprise?

My Review:

Catherine and her younger brother, John, are forced to live in poverty and just when she thinks she’ll have to send her brother off to the poorhouse before she takes up a domestic/governess position, she receives an invitation from her wealthy friend, Katie. Katie invites them both to spend Christmas with her family. Catherine sees this not only as a rescue from the doldrums of their rooms but as a fortuitous opportunity to secure her brother’s future. What she never anticipated was romance.

Catherine soon meets Katie’s brother, Viscount de Montjoy, and while he’s the most handsome man she’s ever met, she knows it can’t go further than his harmless flirtation. She has to keep her head on straight and not get distracted from her plan.

But when she’s accidentally discovered in his warm embrace, her brother steps forward and demands Montjoy marries her. What started out as a lovely holiday has turned into a nightmare the ton will never forget. Montjoy can’t possibly marry her, can he? Or is Catherine doomed to live a life or poverty?

What a touching sweet holiday romance set in the Regency era. While there is a slow-burning romance between Catherine and Montjoy, the heart and soul of A Chance at Christmas is the love between Catherine and her brother. They love each other fiercely and take care of each other. Regency society is quite cruel when it comes to disabled people and Harrison shows the prejudice accurately. The growth and acceptance between John and Montjoy made all the strife worth it. I was upset when the story ended because I wanted to keep reading. Highly recommend!

Favorite Character/Quote: Catherine. I loved experiencing all that she goes through her eyes, from how society views her crippled brother to the delicious cuisine of a great house. Catherine has been given an opportunity of a lifetime and even though she thinks Katie’s brother is only flirting with her, she may be surprised when he reveals his true feelings.

Author Biography:

Beppie Harrison lives on Boston’s South Shore close to the ocean in a big white New Englandish house with her husband, a lawyer daughter, and an assortment of dogs and cats. They live a somewhat trans-Atlantic lifestyle. Her husband is an English architect, and they lived in London at the beginning of their marriage, only moving to the States when they had young children. Now the children are grown, they return to old friends and familiar places as frequently as they can. In many ways, England still feels like their second home.

For Beppie, the pull from across the Atlantic comes not only from the dales of Yorkshire and the buzz of London, but from Ireland. Did it start with its literature, its green beauty, or its wonderfully garrulous people? However it happened, both England and Ireland draw her now.

Her first fiction trilogy, the Heart Trilogy, is placed primarily in Ireland during the Regency period. The Grandest Christmas, a companion novella for the holiday season, is a warm and cozy read for Christmastime. Her upcoming quartet of novels is placed again in Regency times, but, as introduced by the novella The Dowager’s Season, introduces four cousins to the excitement and romance of London’s presentations and balls.

“Frankly, I can’t figure you women out at all.”

Mars giggled.

Cute giggle. First time he’d heard her giggle. Everything about her was cute, adorable and sexy, even without any sleep and no makeup on, she was a beautiful woman.

Several minutes and two pieces of toasts later, he leaned back in his chair, and said, “Can I ask you something?”

“How old would your daughter be now?”

He watched her circle her long slim fingers around the mug, staring into the black liquid. Guilt gripped his gut. “I’m sorry, it was a cruel thing to ask.”

“No, I don’t mind. I’ve been thinking a lot about her lately…since Doc brought James home.” She stared off in the distance. “Lily would be sixteen next month, close to James’ age.”

Reaching over the table, Trebek took her hand and gave her a little comforting squeeze. He didn’t realize what he’d actually done until she looked at their hands.

Her shy grin shook his senses. Clearing his throat, he stood, “We better get back to the room.”

Strolling toward the elevator, his mind went blank. He punched the elevator button. Mars stepped inside, faced him, and touched his arm.

“You know Trebek, I didn’t think I liked you at first.”

His bewildered frowned swung to her. “Why?” Then, holding up his hand, he shook his head. “No, don’t answer…I know why.”

He grinned at her. “I can’t remember the last time a woman called me a jerk and an idiot in the span of thirty seconds.”

Mars shrugged, gritted her teeth, and said, “I did?”

“You did. And, you didn’t stop there, you said I was cold-hearted jerk‒”

“I did?”

“You did.” He chuckled, unable to take his eyes from her full lips.

She laughed.

The second their eyes linked, a beguiling magic consumed him, helpless to squelch the longing he felt for her. Positive she swayed forward, his arms circled her, closing the space between them.

Breath to breath with her, he softly brushed her lips, then gently pressed his lips to hers, pulling her closer. An unexpected chemical reaction ignited within him, demanding a response from her.

Gradually she responded, surrendering to his deep passionate kiss, shaking him.

Abruptly, he pulled away, alarmed. Quickly, he threw his hand up, nervously scratching the back of his head. What was he doing?

The elevator door opened. He waited for her to step out and without looking at her, said, “I have to call my office.” Though he wanted to run, to flee from her presence, he forced his feet to move at a casual pace.

Stomping out into the cold December day, he took in a deep breath.

What just happened? He made a pass at his dad’s girlfriend…you are an idiot. Guilt enflamed his guts. Why would he ever make a pass at his dad’s girlfriend? His jaws clenched. He wanted her, more than he wanted any woman he’d met since Jean died. What was wrong with him? Mars belonged to his dad.

MH More Than I Wished For--Winter4 BARNES AND NOBLE

Author:  Merry Holly

Genre:  Contemporary Romance

Publisher:  Lan-Hop Press

Book Blurb:

In a season filled with secrets, Noelle’s got a big one—it will change their lives forever. How will Chase react to the news?

More Than I Wished For is the holiday trilogy of Noelle Barnes and Chase Clayborne.

In the first novella, Noel Noel Noel, The sparks fly when Chase takes a seat at Noelle’s table. When a playful flirt turns into love, can they survive a long distance romance?

In the second novella, A Wedding and a Promise, Noelle is jittery, as she tries to pull together a wedding in only 63 days. Chase drops the bomb. The reason he’s rushing her into a decision. His work is taking them out of the country for a year. What will she do in a place where she knows no one? What about her career at the bank? How could he ask her to leave friends and family? What if they don’t get along once they live together? At every turn, her thoughts and reasons for not marrying him out weigh the reason she should-love. She loves Chase more than life. Is she making the right decision?

In the third and final book of Chase and Noelle’s trilogy, Noelle’s Surprise, she finds married life isn’t what she thought it would be. To make matters more difficult, she’s cut off from family and friends as they settle out of the country, on a beautiful tropical island. It’s as foreign to her, a New Englander, as living on the space station. Once again she’s questioning her rash choices.

As most newlyweds do, they mapped out their lives, where they’d live, how many children they’d have and when. But life’s altering their master plan. Can they adjust and accept each other and the compromises thrown at them?

Soon she’d have to call nine-one-one if her body didn’t cool down.  For lack of anything to say, she sipped her latte and watched him over the rim of her cup.

“I can leave if I make you uncomfortable.”

How cute is that? His brow furrowed, giving her the sudden urge to trace the lines with her fingertip.

“No, I’m sorry.  I get tongue-tied sometimes.” Oh, great, why’d I have to bring my tongue into this?

Pointing to his bags, her lip tugged up at the corner. “Let me guess.  Shopping for your wife?”

Ah, he’s going to make me work for this. “A girlfriend?”

“Same answer.”

Now he had her curiosity piqued.  The purple bag was definitely from Lynn’s Lingerie Shoppe.  Noelle’s sense of humor got the better of her. “A cross-dresser?”

A deep, loud bellow had her laughing along with him.

“Now there’s an idea, but no.” A rakish grin had her heart pounding. “Would you still love me if I was?”

Love him.  Lordy, who is this guy? “Maybe.”

“Would you like to know what’s in the little purple bag?”

He shook it to entice her and it worked.  Now she needed to know what was inside. Hmmm! Methinks he’s played this game before

“Yes.” Flirting came easy with him.

“Lynn’s signature perfume for my mother.”

Oh yeah, who’s the dummy now, Noelle? He’d bought his mother a personal gift, not a toaster.  Why is this guy single? Heat cooked her cheeks.  Where was the extinguisher when you needed one?

“I don’t see any bags for you.”

“That’s because I’m an early shopper and it’s all done.”

“Cripes, that’s not fair.  I bet you even have them all wrapped?”

“Where’s the fun in that?”

Chase reached over, wiped her lip with his thumb.  A million bolts of electricity raced through every nerve ending in her body causing sparks to ignite and jump in the air.  Her nether region reached five-alarm status.

“What?” She jerked back.

“You had some froth on your lip.  It was kind of cute.” He winked.  Down girl.  The man’s only flirting.

She picked up her napkin and wiped her lip. “Is it all gone?”

“Yes.  You haven’t told me your name.  Is it a secret?” His head tilted to the side, his eyes narrowed. “Let me guess…  Peyton…no.  How about Paige? Nope, I’d say Charlie.  You look like a Charlie.”

“All wrong.  Give up?”

“Nope.  Lizzy, Loretta, Georgie?”

“Okay, I give up.”

“Noelle.  Noelle Barnes.”

“Ah, a Christmas baby?”

“Christmas day?”

“Christmas Eve.”

“A special gift.  I bet your parents were thrilled.” She’d been waiting for his next question. “Are you married?”

“No.” Grinning, she said, “I’m saving myself for Santa.” She picked up her cup and sipped, hoping he ignored her last statement.  Not able to help herself, she giggled.  This was fun.

“So… if I show up at your house tonight in a full Santa suit you’re mine?” He started humming a Christmas carol, “No-el, No-el, No-el.”

The Lawman’s Christmas Proposal by @BarbaraWDaille #romance #MFRWAuthor

The Lawman's Christmas Proposal

Title: The Lawman’s Christmas Proposal

Author: Barbara White Daille

Genre: Short contemporary romance

Book Blurb:

A husband for Christmas?

Mitch Weston’s back in Cowboy Creek, and self-proclaimed matchmaker Jed Garland has his single granddaughter Andi on his mind. Mitch is a lawman, good with the little ones and easy on the eyes. He and Andi were high school sweethearts, for heaven’s sake! Why can’t they see they’re perfect for each other?

Because Andi already lost one husband to a dangerous job, and now she’s all about playing it safe, for her sake and her children’s. Being a cop is everything to Mitch. After discovering Jed’s plan, Mitch and Andi come up with their own: they’ll pretend to get engaged and then break up due to irreconcilable differences. Jed’s got his work cut out for him—because this match needs a Christmas miracle!

In the sitting room, Andi found Jed in his favorite chair, holding Missy on his lap. “You’ll be spoiling her, Grandpa,” she scolded gently.

“Then she’ll be spoiled,” he said with a grin. “I’m taking every chance I can get to hold her. She’s been away too long. You all have.”

As she took a seat on one of the chairs near them, she forced a smile. Jed hadn’t made any secret of the fact that he wanted her and the kids to move to the ranch permanently.

She wanted only to prove she could take care of her family on her own.

Trey crossed the room to them, thumping his chest with one hand. “Look, Mommy. Look what I got.”

Rachel, Pete’s five-year-old, followed in his footsteps. “It’s Robbie’s badge. Robbie let me play with it and I shared it with Trey.”

“That’s very nice of you, Rachel. And that’s a very nice badge, sweetheart.” She tapped the plastic star-shaped pin and touched her son’s cheek.

“I’m the chef.”

“You mean sheriff,” Rachel corrected. She turned to Andi. “He means sheriff. Grandpa Jed said Mitch has a badge, too. Didn’t you, Grandpa Jed?”

“I sure did.”

Yes, Mitch had a badge. And a gun and an injury and a dangerous job. Grant’s position had the potential for danger, too. They’d both known it. But Mitch’s could expose him to risk every day of his life.

“Mitch is going to show me his badge,” Rachel announced.

“Well,” Andi said, “I think he must have forgotten. He’s gone home already.”

“But he’s coming back tomorrow.”

She froze. The clock on the wall chimed, saving her from having to reply for a moment. When it stopped, she looked from Rachel to Jed. “Mitch is coming here tomorrow?”

“Yes,” Rachel said. “Grandpa Jed says so.”

Nodding, Jed patted the phone on the end table beside his chair. “Just spoke to Nancy, and she confirmed he’s got nothing on his schedule. I told her I want him to come by and talk with me for a bit.”

She fisted her hands in her lap. She didn’t want to see Mitch again.

Watching him in the dining room surrounded by her family had been bad enough. It allowed her too much time to resurrect the many sweet memories she had buried long ago.

But to her dismay, standing outside with him had been so much worse. Being with him had forced her to see what she didn’t want to admit.

Time and distance and even marriage to a man she loved with all her heart hadn’t destroyed her feelings for Mitch.

She heads home to Havenport, Rhode Island for a Christmas book signing, and a chance to lay low and let the storm pass.

Together, the young couple discover new things about themselves that lead them to think about where their lives may lead next. Will they move on to the next chapter together, or go their separate ways?

Emma Kaye ~ Baby, It’s Cold Outside

She didn’t know the spell would bring her nineteenth century love, Adam Royce, forward in time. Or that he would assume he’d died and joined her in heaven. Jane gets more than she bargained for trying to persuade Adam they’re both alive and in the twenty-first century.

Jane knows they’re soul mates, but convincing Adam may not be so easy. Will Adam insist on returning to his own time, or can Jane use both love and a little magick to help him understand that this time and place is exactly where he’s meant to be?

His car repair business is booming, his former girlfriend and all her drama is history, and he’s ready to move on to the next chapter in his life. Savannah Moore is cute, sexy, and tougher than she looks. But when someone tries to hurt her, Mac realizes he’s never had this intense degree of protective instincts for anyone, not even in combat. Savannah has touched a place in his heart that surprises and thrills him. Can he convince her to let this thing between them grow?

Julie Rowe ~ Merry Christmas, Baby

Marine biologist Mattie Clark is moving back to her hometown after the break-up of her marriage, but she doesn’t expect to run into her high school crush (literally) only days after returning, or to discover he’s not the smooth operator she remembers. Charles Walker survived a horrific fire only to have his whole world fall apart. His fiancé walked out on him, taking his confidence in himself with her. His own family avoids him now, uncomfortable with the scars he carries. He sinks into a depression nothing will cure, except a short, curvy tornado named Mattie Clark. NEW RELEASE ~~ Love Around the Corner by @SamnaGhani #romance #MFRWAuthor #bookpromo

Title: Love Around the Corner

Author: Samna Ghani

Genre: Romance

Serena Henderson, owner of the Book Corner, is next in line to wear the mistletoe headband. The only thing is that she does not believe that a silly headband could help her find the love of her life.

Her faith in the mistletoe magic begins when she meets Jason Wright, a smart, sexy and happy-go-lucky guy who seems to have walked right out of the pages of a romance novel.

Serena is torn between her pessimistic doubts about Jason and her optimistic hope for love. Could Jason be the one? Should she trust her heart and how he makes her feel or should she abandon the hope of finding true love?

Exclusive Excerpt:

He took her hand and softly rubbed her wrist with his thumb. He traced the stringed headband with his fingers. “Serena, if I kiss you right now, would this pass on to someone else?”

Serena wasn’t a heaving bosom type of woman. In all honesty, her bosom wasn’t even the kind that would heave the right way. But if there was a heaving bosom moment, this was it.

“No. It has to feel right. It’s not supposed to be a kiss and run. It should be magical.” She couldn’t believe how calm she was. The man had just talked about kissing her. Shouldn’t she be flustered or something? Well maybe not. Austen heroines were never flustered and she had spent most of her adult life admiring that type.
