Embrace Your Inner Eagle and Fly! #inspiration #motivation #ThursdayThoughts

fall fly

We all have a fear of falling on our butts. Some call it failure but in essence, all falling does is test our mettle. How much do we want it? It’s a life lesson and one we must conquer if we’re ever going to live our dreams.

I remember when I was little and I was learning to ride my big girl’s bike. It had training wheels on it and I fell so many times, I had bandages covering my knees. Did I give up? No way! I kept going and eventually I flew, with no help from anyone.

Take my advice and embrace your inner eagle. Soar high above the trees. Sure, you may fall a couple of times getting your wings to work but before you know it, you’ll be flying.

Note: It’s Easter weekend and we’re taking a long weekend. We need the relaxation and rest. But don’t despair, there’ll be a few book-related posts popping up on the POTL blog while we’re away. The Inspirational Thought will return Monday.

Spiritual Love: Faith When You Can’t See What’s in Store #Easter #Passover #inspiration

When the darkness is closing in, have faith.

Last night at sundown, Passover started. For those who don’t know the story of Passover, let me summarize. The Jews were enslaved in Egypt. God freed the Jews uplifting Moses as their leader. Moses told Egypt to let his people go but the king didn’t listen to him. God, in essence, changed the king’s mind. The Jews followed Moses into the wilderness blindly; they were just happy to be free. But happiness soon turned to worry as they realized they were in the middle of nowhere. They were hungry and the darkness was closing in. Moses prayed and God answered his prayers. The result: the ten commandments. Passover is the celebration of freedom.

We’ve all been enslaved by something. Whether its a job, relationship, money, circumstance, we were once a slave and have been freed. But what happens after we’re freed? We’re wandering around in the desert, not sure what to do or where to go. The darkness suffocates us as it gets nearer. How to cope?

Just like the Jews back in the 13th century BC, we clutch onto our faith. Faith is trusting in God to guide us in the wilderness. Faith is following the lighted path, even when we can’t see our hand in front of our face.

Faith is seeing Light with your heart when all your eyes see is darkness.

Happy Passover, dear followers!

If You Love A Toaster, I Promise I Won’t Judge #love #MondayBlogs #LoveisLove

Love is the theme this week, as it’s Holy Week for both Christians and Jews. Love is on my mind and today I’m going to be truthful and honest. Some of you may not like what I have to say and I’m okay with that. I feel led to speak the truth in love, not hate.

I heard this song, Take Me to Church by Hozier, last week. Here’s the lyrics and the video (PG-13 rating):

My lover’s got humour
She’s the giggle at a funeral
Knows everybody’s disapproval
I should’ve worshipped her sooner
If the heavens ever did speak
She’s the last true mouthpiece
Every Sunday’s getting more bleak
A fresh poison each week
“We were born sick”
You heard them say it
My church offers no absolutes
She tells me “worship in the bedroom”
The only heaven I’ll be sent to
Is when I’m alone with you
I was born sick, but I love it
Command me to be well
Amen, Amen, Amen
Take me to church
I’ll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I’ll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
If I’m a pagan of the good times
My lover’s the sunlight
To keep the goddess on my side
She demands
Take me to church
I’ll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I’ll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
No masters or kings when the ritual begins
There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin
In the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene
Only then I am human
Only then I am clean
Amen, Amen, Amen
Take me to church
I’ll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I’ll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life

Love is love. No matter who you are and who you love, what you beliefs and values are, you love. Every religion and spiritual practice speaks of love. As human beings, we have a desire to love and be loved.

It angers me when Christians, Jews, Muslim, New Age, Agnostics, etc. judge other people by who they love. Here’s a sampling of various holy texts quotes on love:

The Bible: Matthew 22:36 – 22:40 —

36 Master, which [is] the great commandment in the law?

37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38 This is the first and great commandment.

39 And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Torah: Leviticus 19:17–18 —

You shall not hate your kinsman in your heart.
Reprove your neighbor, but incur no guilt because of him.
You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against your kinsfolk.
Love your neighbor as yourself: I am Adonai.

Ancient Philosopher, Socrates:

One word frees us
Of all the weight and pain in life,
That word is Love.

Love is universal. Love is within us all and nowhere in any of these texts does it say to judge another by who he/she loves. In every religion/spiritual belief, we’re not called upon to judge. It’s not our place and honestly, who wants that kind of responsibility?

Listen, I’m a Christian and I follow Jesus’ example. He loved everyone. Sure, He didn’t love the sin or what they did wrong. But He didn’t judge; He left that to His Father, the Lord. He walked among sinners, especially lepers, prostitutes and tax collectors. He preached turning the other cheek, loving everyone, spreading the good word, housing and feeding others in His name.

I follow His example of truth, kindness and being the embodiment of love. I don’t judge and in fact, it doesn’t matter to me if people’s soul mates are their toasters. Yup, you read that right. If someone is in love with his/her toaster, well, I’m happy for them! God bless because everyone should experience love.

So today, on the first day of Holy Week (even if you’re not religious), show love not hate to others. Let all that you do be in love.

Resurrect Your Soul Through Forgiveness #MondayBlogs #Forgiveness #MondayMeditation

Are you holding onto a grudge?

Has a person wronged you and you’re wishing bad things to happen to them?

I’m a big believer of forgiveness and I just discovered a new way to forgive.

Ask/Pray/Meditate for something good to happen to the person who wronged you.

I know it sounds crazy but here me out. When you put aside the pain and transfer your energy to blessing them, your soul heals. You let go of the boulder strapped across your back. You allow the Universe to take control and become the embodiment of unconditional love.

Does that mean what the person did was okay?

NO! In fact, I’m sure the Universe knows exactly what he/she did and will take the correct action.

But why would I want good things to happen to my enemy?

Deep in your heart, you know how exhausting it is to carry around all that pain. Release yourself from it and move on.

Forgiveness means you have made peace with the pain and are ready to let it go.

Be free!

No Matter What Happens, Be Grateful! #inspiration #spiritual #MaundyThursday

grateful for everything

I woke up this morning feeling so grateful.  My outlook is much better than it was when I went to bed last night.

Today is Maundy Thursday for us Christians and it’s a time to reflect, thank Jesus for the immense sacrifice He did in the name of love and realize how grateful we are.

I’m filled with gratitude for all the blessings in my life. But more so, I’m grateful for everything, including trials and tribulations. They’re an important part of my journey to becoming a better person.

What are you grateful for?

A bee bite.  I’m grateful.

The internet being slow. I’m grateful.

Rain and thunderstorms.  I’m grateful.

Life is too short to let things bother me.  I am alive and living a truly blessed life!

Even if I was homeless like the Walking Man, I would be grateful.

Be grateful for everything!!!

MRS N, totally grateful 🙂

Marie furrowed her brow and softly interrupted, “André is the Walking Man?”

I looked at Marie and asked, “You’ve heard of him?”

Marie nodded. “Of course. He is a staple of the Downtown area. There are a few groups I’m affiliated with that hand out food and clothing to those in need. He never comes to these events so I leave them by the area where he sleeps.” She paused, thoughtfully. “I just can’t believe that it is André.”

Joe cleared his throat and looked at his father. “What happened to André?”

Alfred sighed and after a moment said, “It really was the fault of that witch he was married to. She and her family treated him horribly. She was a gold digger and all she cared about was money and the prestige.”

Marie interrupted Alfred by saying, “I remember her. She was so mean to André and all she cared about was looking rich. Wealth is a gift—she just wanted it for a toy. She treated André so badly… and his mother-in-law was the worst. She would put him down all the time. In front of other people, no less.”

Alfred continued, “André was a good man and worked hard. He was working on a big project for the city. He worked night and day on the project and told me it was going to put Golden Lake on the map.

“He absolutely adored his daughter, too. I remember that clearly. She was his everything.” Alfred paused, apparently lost in his thoughts. With a sigh he said, “There was a scandal with the project, though, and André got fired. Soon after, Dara left him, took Katherine with her and André fell apart. He started drinking heavily and, without his daughter, his life fell apart.”

Joe looked at me and I fought to keep from throwing my hand over my mouth. There was purple fire in his eyes and I felt his anger. I already knew the story of André and I tried to smile at him.

I smelled burning flesh. Joe flashed in full armor fighting demons with a golden sword.

I gasped at the vision and brought my hand to my chest in shock feeling the key necklace, before I could stop the physical reaction. The necklace weighed heavily as did my heart. He would be fighting at my side soon.

Marie asked, “Are you okay, dear?”

Joe turned to look at his mother. He nodded and only said, “I never knew any of this.”

Alfred continued, “I am sorry, son, but you asked for the truth. This is what I know. André was sleeping at the office and drinking all the time. He was supposed to give a presentation to a client and was drunk. He got into a scuffle with his boss and rumor has it, André punched him.”

I feigned shock and said, “Oh my!”

Than is to blame. I don’t know how I know or what happened but I vow to the Lord that I will make Than pay, thought Joe.

I choked and almost spit out my drink. I just heard Joe’s thoughts! I had to set him straight and right away.

I cleared my throat and said awkwardly, “Joe, I think I left something in the car.”

Joe looked at me with eyebrows raised. “Excuse me, we’ll be right back,” I said with a smile.

I walked outside and knew that Joe was right behind me. When I reached the car, I whirled and said in a stern tone, “Are you trying to get yourself killed?”

Joe stopped mid-step and said, “What are you talking about, Mary?”

I ran into his arms and whispered, “You cannot take on Than by yourself! I heard your thoughts in there. Now, I don’t know how you know that it was Than who drove André to punching his boss but please promise me that you will not get revenge.”

I paused to catch my breath and remembered what Gabriel told me. “Joe, in order to defeat the darkness and not become dark ourselves, we need to have a pure heart. We are filled with the Light and our motives must always be to speak the Truth and spread the Light.”

Joe took several deep breaths while he held me. He stroked my hair and whispered, “I’m sorry, my angel. I didn’t mean to frighten you and you are right. It was just a momentary thought.”

I lifted my head and locked eyes with Joe. Tears filled my eyes but I was determined. I bit at my top lip and then whispered, “Promise me you won’t put yourself in harm’s way.” Hot tears spilled down my cheeks.

Joe wiped at them and said in a deep, reassuring tone, “I promise, Mary. I promise I won’t be a hothead and I won’t be rash.” Then, he laid his forehead on mine and whispered, “Please don’t cry, darling. Please.”

I nodded and whispered, “I would die if I lost you. Than will use you to try to get to me. You are my love, my everything.” My voice cracked. “I would die if I lost you,” I repeated.

Joe shook my shoulders a little and looked deep into my eyes. “Listen to me, Mary, you will never lose me! Do you hear me? I am by your side now and forever.”

Overcome with emotion, Joe kissed me.

Happy Holy Thursday!!!

Holy Thursday

Today is Holy Thursday, a Christian celebration that marks the last time Jesus is with his disciples before he is taken away to be crucified. There is a story in the Bible marking this day and it resonates with me.

Jesus and the disciples are at Martha and Mary’s home. The disciples are talking amongst themselves and Martha is bustling around complaining to herself that Mary, her sister, isn’t helping her out.

Mary, who is sitting at Jesus’ feet, takes an expensive bottle of perfume and begins to wash Jesus’ feet. It is an act of devotion and love, nothing more.

The disciples watch Mary and start to grumble. “Look what she is doing! We could’ve sold that perfume to help feed the poor! She’s ruining it by washing his feet.”

I can only imagine what Jesus must have been thinking. He probably shook His head sadly and said, “You fools, can you not see the love Mary shows for me?”

Jesus smiles at Mary and then proceeds to wash the disciples feet Himself. He shows them to have the heart of a servant is to be a follower of Him.

I love this passage in the Bible because it speaks to my heart. I do not have to commit to memory every word of the Bible or work for a church to be a servant of the Lord. My giving of myself and helping to spread the Light is what Jesus wants most. Helping the Walking Man and other homeless people is what my heart craves. If I could, I would wash their feet.

In the spirit of today, Holy Thursday, I give the world my heart, my devotion, my book and my Light!!!
