#WednesdayWisdom: Surround Yourself With People Who… #inspiration #grateful

surround yourself

Are you surrounded by people who love, motivate and encourage you?

In order to grow as a person, we need a nurturing environment. Think of yourself as a seedling and in order to grow into a productive plant/shrub/tree, you need sun, water and extra nutrients. Without that kind of supportive environment, you’ll wither and die.

When I was younger, I didn’t surround myself with positive, encouraging people. In fact, my so-called friends spewed negativity and brought me down. I couldn’t do anything right and was an embarrassment. It’s no wonder I had a low self-esteem.

It wasn’t until I distanced myself from these downers that I began to bloom. I replaced negative friends with positive buddies and you know what, my whole outlook changed. I started dreaming big dreams and the people around me supported me. In fact, they were my cheerleader squad! I tried a bunch of new things and spread my wings.

We all need a positive support system, a group of peers who’ll love, motivate and encourage us. They’ll hold us up when we falter and be our training wheels when we get back on our bicycle. Their unconditional love uplifts us to reach for the stars and celebrates when we reach success.

So again I ask: are you surrounded by people who love, motivate and encourage you?

If not, maybe it’s time to switch up the people you call your friends.

Words Are More Powerful Than Any Weapon #inspiration #encourage #ThursdayThoughts

words

I’ve been blessed to have met many wonderful people in my life. Each one has encouraged me in some way. Their words healed my soul. I thank them (you know who you are) for without their encouragement, I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.

Are you an encourager?

I am!

Words have the power to heal, uplift and motivate; words also have the power to murder, destroy and annihilate. Choose your words carefully for they are more powerful than any weapon on this planet!

#Motivation is When Your Dreams Put on Work Clothes #inspiration

Motivation quote

What motivates you?

Read this awesome quote and ask yourself: How can I make my dreams come true?

The difference between a dreamer and a successful person is motivation.

Motivation is when your dreams put on work clothes.

My dream of being a successful business owner and top book reviewer is soon to be a reality.  It took a lot of hard work, determination and strength.  Motivation kept my eyes on the prize, so to speak.

I know you have dreams and I encourage you to find the motivation to do whatever you can to make them come true!  There is no greater feeling in the world than living your dreams!  Sure, it’s hard work but anything worth having is going to take blood, sweat and tears!  Go for it!

Motivation can come from a quote, book, artwork, person or a combination.  Once you find your motivation, strap on your work boots and get started!  I believe in you and know you can do it!

Be Generous With Your Encouraging Words #inspiration #bullying #affirmations

Encouraging words

Words can be deadly.

Don’t believe me? I read this morning that a teenage boy committed suicide after years of being bullied. He’s not the only one.  I see it all the time on social media.  Online bullying using words can kill and it happens more often than killing with guns.

Being human doesn’t give you the right to use your words like bullets, hurting and injuring people.  Spreading the Light is about inspiring and encouraging others.  Read the quote again.

Always be generous with your encouraging words, you may find they will inspire others to be the best they can be.

Today (and everyday), let’s use our words to uplift each other instead of tearing each other down!

encourage others

One of the earliest memories I have is hearing my parents say to me, “You can do it!”  Those 4 words I have carried with me ever since and they have encouraged me.

Encouragement is one of the strongest acts we can show someone, second only to love.  When we use words to uplift someone, we are being selfless, kind and stronger than Superman.

When was the last time you encouraged someone?  When was the last time you received encouragement from another?

I try to be encouraging to others every day.  It is a part of who I am and I love helping people!  I don’t do it to get recognized or for some ulterior motive.  I do it because it is part of my nature and because it helps spread the Light.

What do you do to encourage others?  Do you only encourage family and friends?  Do you encourage strangers or followers you know on social media?

I know that my life is blessed because of those people who encouraged me and by those who I encourage!  The greatest legacy for my life is for someone to say…

MRS N is/was a beautiful person because she encouraged others to greatness!

Are you having a bad day?

Yesterday was a hard day for me. I only got five hours of sleep (watching the Canada Election until 1 am) and work was very intense. I had a lot on the go and all I wanted to do was sleep. Obstacles blocked my path and it took every effort for me not to snap at people.

I gave MR N and my friends a heads-up and prayed for a little help. Miraculously, I made it through and had a great night’s sleep. This morning, I feel rested and ready to take on the day.

Stuff happens and obstacles will impede you from moving forward. The key to making it through is to have a great support system around you. These people love you unconditionally and are your cheering squad. When life gets you down, they’ll be there to uplift you.

In your day, surround yourself with people who love you, motivate you, encourage you and just make you feel good about being… You.

This week I’ve been dealing with a pretty bad cold. Even small things, like walking to the kitchen, takes all my effort. But I keep going. Why? Because tomorrow’s gotta be better.

Is today a bad day?

I know you’re struggling and you feel like giving up. I’ve been there and today, all I want to do is crawl into bed and sleep the day away. But I have work to do and so do you.

Keep the faith and keep going.

The amazing truth is that when this wretched day is finally over, tomorrow is a brand new day. Tomorrow could be the best day ever!

You’ll never know for sure what tomorrow holds unless you keep moving forward.

So, follow my lead and push through today the best you can. I am. 🙂

Fill Your Heart With This Treasure: Kindness #inspiration #kindness

kindness guard

Kindness is more valuable than gold.

It is!

Don’t believe me?

Think back on your life and all the times kindness was gifted to you. Every kind act, from a helping hand to a word of encouragement, is something to be treasured.

I value kindness more than money, cars and houses. I tend to be drawn to people who show kindness without hesitation. Their Light shines brighter than those that don’t.

Guard well within yourself that treasure, kindness. Know how to give without hesitation. How to lose without regret. How to acquire without meanness.

Fill your heart with this treasure (kindness) and you will be richer than King Midas.

Be Someone’s Lighthouse #inspiration #kindness #SpreadtheLight

Be a lamp

Do you know someone who’s discouraged? Has life got them down?

Be their lighthouse.

For hundreds of years, people relied on lighthouses to guide their passage on the seas. Sailors and travelers needed the lighthouse to shine their beacon to show them how to navigate the shoreline. Without the lighthouse, the boat/ship would crash onto the rocky shoreline, killing everyone on-board.

I have a few friends going through a bad time in their life right now. I offer words of encouragement, a listening ear and my shoulder to cry on.

“I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

“You’re so strong.”

“Thank you.”

In their darkness, I’m a beacon of hope, a sliver of Light.

Be a lamp, or a lifeboat or a ladder. Help someone’s soul heal.

Inner Light

Do you know someone going through a rough time?

Encourage them.

We all go through tough times and sometimes it feels like we’re being wrung through the washer of life. Dragged, twisted and tossed around. Our hearts hurt and we’re surrounded by discouragement.

It’s happened to me time and again. Just when I think I can’t deal with anything else horrible happening, a friend calls or emails. He/She rekindles my Light and gives me the strength to keep going.

One person who is an example of a Rekindler is my friend Nathan. No matter what is going on in his life, he always is there for me. Many times, I don’t have to ask for help; he just seems to sense it.

I am so grateful he’s my friend and I hope I am the same kind of friend to him. 🙂

Again I ask you, do you know someone going through a rough time?

Encourage them.

Call them and invite them to coffee.

Send an email or text telling them you’re thinking about them.

Listen to them and offer support.

It takes a moment and your random act of kindness reignites someone’s Light.

Spread the Light!

Don’t Give Up! #encouragement #inspiration #motivation

Do you need a little encouragement?

This week has been a series of missteps and falters for me. I’m totally exhausted and in need of a rest. I’ve been working my tail off and yesterday was feeling a little low. Without me saying a word, I had three friends, two clients and MR N all tell me the same thing:

You’re doing amazing work and I’m so proud of you.

Those ten words uplifted and encouraged me. It was the boost I needed.

Each of us is dealing with one struggle or another. We’re trying to make it through the day. Some days are harder than others. The truth is, we need to go through these struggles in order to deal with what comes tomorrow.

The struggle you’re in today is developing the strength you need for tomorrow. Don’t give up!

Just When the Caterpillar Thought the World Was Over… #inspiration #motivation

inspirational

Are you struggling with life? Does it seem like your world is over?

There is an old proverb that states…

Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.

We all have experienced something similar.

A job loss

A death

Financial trouble

A break-up

Failure

The world is ending and we don’t know where to turn.

Think of the caterpillar. He’s going along his business, making his way and then suddenly feels sick.

I’ll just curl up and rest, he thinks to himself.

He weaves a cocoon and slowly dies. Times passes and he suddenly breaks free. He feels lighter and can fly. He’s a beautiful butterfly.

Listen, life’s struggles can be hard. It can feel as though you are dying a slow death. You’re transforming into a beautiful butterfly. This pain is all part of the process. Hold on tight, for soon you will be flying!

Are You Surrounded by the Right People? #inspiration #motivation #affirmations

Do you surround yourself with the right people? I’m not talking about people with money, power and/or influence. Are you surrounding yourself with people who inspire and encourage you to be who you are?

I used to think that I needed to be friends with people who could help me achieve my goals. I also surrounded myself with people I knew were bad for me but they had been my friends forever. Both of these groups of friends were damaging to my self-esteem and my identity.

My thinking changed when I was put into a dangerous situation. Suddenly, life took on a whole new perspective and the people I thought were my friends scattered like dandelion fluff like the wind. I was alone. I looked deep inside and made the decision to change who my friends were.

Once I surrounded myself with friends who loved me for me, I began to grow and my self-esteem increased. These friends were there for me and motivated me to chase after my dreams including writing my first novel. They inspired me to start this blog and they continue to encourage me to reach for the stars.

How about you? Are your friends motivating, inspiring and encouraging you to be the very best you can be? If not, maybe you need to surround yourself with people who do.

In your day, surround yourself with people who love you, motivate you, encourage you and just make you feel good about being… you!

Just a Thought…

Just a Thought

I’ve been thinking a lot about destiny and thoughts lately. I believe firmly in destiny and I know I was meant to write Princess of the Light. I am following the path set out for me and I have faith.

Thoughts and words are the by-product of the soul.

Do you believe that statement?

I sure do!

As a person I try to project the Light and uplift as many people as I can. I’m an encourager and I have seen first-hand what happens when hateful words do more damage than a weapon. Our words are a reflection of our hearts.

Today and every day, let us be caring and speak only kind words!!!

Spread the Light!

Writers: Encourage Other Writers

Writers Encourage Writers

The world is filled with people who try to tear us down.  As writers, we must encourage each other, not tear each other down!

I get so sick and tired of writers ripping other writers.  A writer friend of mine had the worst thing happen to her… her publisher closed. Did I cheer?  NO!  I gave my shoulder for her to cry on and told her that I was there for her!  I encouraged her that this could be a blessing in disguise and she should follow her dreams!  I offered her my undying support and told her I wanted to help her in whatever way I could.

I didn’t have to do any of that.  I could have done what I saw other writers do.  I could have told her she made a huge mistake signing with that publisher.  I could have told her she’s better off not being a writer.  But that’s not me!

I encourage as many writers as I can to follow their dreams!  I celebrate with them when fabulous things happen and I cry with them when bad things happen.  It’s a natural thing for me and I encourage you to do the same!

#Writing Even When Your Muse Hasn’t Shown Up For Work

Writing is the key to writing

I’ve been sitting here at the computer for 15 minutes staring at the blank screen.  I don’t feel well and I have a deadline looming.  I need to write but nothing is flowing.  I thought about giving up but then I ran across this quote.  I love it and it fits perfectly for how I feel.

One of the biggest hurdles that us writers face is the dreaded blank page.  No matter how hard we try to avoid it, there is no avoiding… *whispers* Writer’s Block.  GASP!

It happens to the best of us and there are amazing articles about how to overcome writer’s block.  I have read them all and you know what?  While they are helpful to read, the reality is that each writer has to find their own motivation to write.

Read the quote again and ask yourself how many times did you not write because your muse didn’t show up?

Honestly, I have used that excuse over fifty times.  The truth is that it is only an excuse.  Once I ran out of excuses and just started writing, the muse miraculously returned.

“But what I write is crap when I am trying to get over writer’s block!”

It’s true and that shouldn’t matter.  The end product is not the reasoning for your writing when you are dealing with writer’s block.  It is the act of writing itself that combats writer’s block.  Don’t worry about what you write down or how it isn’t perfect.  Writing isn’t perfect.  That is what revising and editing is for.

Nike

“You have to be there, and do it and grind it out.”

Writing is hard work and there is no room for excuses.  Grab your pen/keyboard and get writing.  Your muse will show up and all will be right with the world (and your writing)! 🙂

Life Lesson #7: Be Encouraging to Others

Encouragement

“The tongue is the strongest muscle in the human body; use yours to lift someone up today.” ~Terri Ann Armstrong

On Twitter today is a writing pitching party named #Pitmad.  Any writer who has a completed polished manuscript is invited to participate.  Writers compose a 140 character pitch and use the hashtag #pitmad.  Agents and publishers read through the Pitmad feed and if they favorite the tweet, the writer can query them.   It is a terrific way to gain exposure for a writer.

I am not participating in this event but I am going to be posting encouraging tweets to all the writers.  Why?  Because I feel that writers should be encouraging to each other.  The industry is a tough business and we writers need to stick together. 🙂

What is your legacy?
