Title: NOT THROUGH LOVING YOU

Author: Patricia Preston

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Publisher: Lyrical Press/Kensington Books

Blurb:

In the Southern town of Lafayette Falls, a new life brings together a woman with everything to lose and a doctor with everything to prove.

When a sickly infant is surrendered at the Lafayette Falls Medical Center, and orphaned soon after, pediatrician Aaron Kendall arranges to adopt him. After a painful divorce, the busy baby doc is about to realize his own dream of becoming a father when the baby’s beautiful estranged aunt turns up. She doesn’t exactly approve of the Kendall bachelor pad complete with Aaron’s cranky dad and wacky brother, forcing Aaron to form a risky alliance with her.

Country singer-songwriter Lia Montgomery barely knew her half-sister, but she’s determined her tiny nephew goes to a good home. If only she fit the bill herself, but her stressful life on the road is no place for a baby. Yet despite her misgivings, as she gets to know Aaron, she realizes the smart and sexy doctor is everything a child could want in a dad and more unsettling, everything she’s ever hoped for in a man. After all she’s put him through, is it too late to form a family and maybe put a song in the good doctor’s heart?

Excerpt:

Aaron looked across the table at his brother and for a moment, all the fear and heartache bottled up inside him exposed itself in his voice. “I can’t go through losing a son for the second time.”

Stevie’s brow netted in a worried frown as he sat up straight. “Okay.” He tented his fingers. “So you’ve gotta get tight with the girl.”

“What are you talking about?” Aaron continued to squash the aluminum can. “I have nothing in common with Lia Montgomery.”

“You have the baby,” Stevie pointed out. “I know that’s not what you want, but it is what it is. And you need to make the most of it. Bro, women are not that hard. Listen to me. You’ve got this chick whose sister just died so she’s got all this guilt and grief going on. And then there’s the sister’s sick little baby. Okay, so what’s Lia gonna do? I mean, she’s family. She’s gotta do something or she’s gonna feel like crap about herself.”

“Stevie—” Aaron tried to cut in.

“You’re going at this ass-backwards by trying to scare her off. How’s that working for you? Acting like a jerk? No wonder she wants the baby transferred.”

Aaron threw the ball of crushed aluminum at Stevie, who caught it. “Just putting the truth out there,” Stevie said. “Of course, I know why you’re an asshole, but she doesn’t.”

Aaron glared at his kid brother, but he didn’t say anything.

“You gotta put on your sad face. Like this.” Stevie’s face crumpled so that he looked on the verge of tears. “It works every time. I promise.” He grinned. “You need to say you’re sorry for how things went today. Keep on the sad face. Then you tell her you really could use some help because the baby doesn’t have any clothes.”

“What? He’s in an incubator. He doesn’t need clothes.”

“It’s not about the baby needing clothes. For chrissakes, do you know nothing about women? It’s about shopping. The magic word. Shopping,” Stevie reiterated. “Tell her you’d like for her to pick out some clothes for the baby and, hey, decorate the nursery, too. She’ll go wild. Shopping for baby stuff. That’s like mainlining heroin for women.

“Tell her you want her to pick out some toys, too. And then you go from sad face to hopeful face. Like a dog waiting for a treat. And you say that with her help, you think you can be the best dad ever. Bingo! You win! She’ll be thrilled because she’ll get to feel good about herself and she’s getting to help with the baby. You got her hook, line, and sinker.”

“That’s crazy.”

“What’s crazy is you sitting out here, covered in sweat, having a pity party about the past. You’re missing the opportunity of a lifetime if you know what I mean. Call her.”

“I can’t call her. I don’t have her number.”

“You didn’t get her number? Holy shit.” Stevie threw the ball of aluminum back at Aaron who caught it. “You know, that’s standard protocol.”

“Maybe,” Aaron replied. “But in this case, she’s not available.”

Stevie leaned forward. “Every chick is available if you play your cards right, bro.”

happily ever after FINAL

Title: Happily Ever After

Author: Ruth A. Casie

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Publisher: Timeless Scribes Publishing

Book Blurb:

From a fall from literary stardom to becoming the heroine in her own romance story, Beth Holmes has turned around her career and her love life. She owes it all to one very special person.

Jarred Watson has loved Beth since he read her first novel and suspected the heroine was the embodiment of the author. But the road to romance was fraught with pitfalls. He almost lost everything because of a conniving agent and a little white lie that got out of hand. At the eleventh hour, with honesty and hard work, their book sales are off the charts and a movie deal is in negotiations.

Interfering families and changed plans take their toll. Will they go their separate ways or will Holmes and Watson continue their literary collaboration and personal partnership in order to find their own happily ever after?

Excerpt:

“What have you found?” She pushed her research aside, more interested in what he had to say.

He put his pen down and sat back, his casual manner indicating he wasn’t in any hurry. A glint of humor lit his eyes, and an easy smile played at the corners of his mouth. The thrill of his obvious interest in her buoyed her spirits. Her smile broadened, it was the polite thing to do, although polite never entered her mind.

“Men tend to be task-oriented, not at all talkative. They’re more action oriented when it comes to dealing with emotions. Faced with a woman’s emotions, rather than listen, they try to fix it.”

That made her think. Visions of how her Detective Ryan reacted to Jo Dee ran through her mind. They weren’t in line with Jarred’s conclusion. Startled and intrigued by the revelation that Ryan’s reactions were more like those of a woman.

“Women, on the other hand,” she responded before he could say another word, “are intuitive, especially about the nonverbal cues like tone, emotion, and empathy. Because they’re good communicators they do well in groups, talk through the issues, and focus on how to create solutions that work for the group. You’re right. When men are faced with a woman’s emotion, they go right for the solution. But solutions are the last thing she wants. A woman wants comfort, cuddling, and empathy.”

“Interesting.” He chuckled. “Men are not known for their empathy.” He brought his chair closer to hers. “Like stress,” he said. “Under stress, men exhibit the “fight or flight” response.”

Beth nodded. She hadn’t considered the differences in gender reactions in that context. “Women don’t think fight or flight, at least not initially. Under stress they work to protect the group. It has to do with protecting the young and seeing to the family unit. They also think very differently about sex.”

A sly smile brightened his face. She wanted to slam her hand over her mouth.

“They do?” He dropped his voice to a low raspy whisper and sent chills, the good kind, up her back and to other places.

“For a woman, sex starts in their head, not necessarily between her legs.” Shit. Her face was so hot she was going to go up in flames. Jeez, that’s what Jo Dee would say, definitely not Beth Alexander.

“Oh really?” If she thought his soft, male mellow voice or his smoldering stare couldn’t get any sexier, she got that totally wrong.

“I’m a romance writer. I write about relationships and emotions,” she replied.

“And sex,” he added. Was he extending an invitation? She wasn’t a loose woman, but she was more than tempted to say yes. And that was her notion, not Jo Dee’s.

Ukulele Deadly Final

Title  UKULELE DEADLY

Author  Leslie Langtry

Genre  Cozy Mystery

Publisher  Gemma Halliday Publishing

Book Blurb

Ukulele player Nani Johnson is just starting to put the past behind her and settle in on Kauai with her loveable but crazy Mom, her hot new boyfriend, and regular gigs at both the Blue Hawaii Wedding Chapel and the Aloha Lagoon Resort. But unfortunately her island life proves anything but relaxing when a man carrying ID that says he’s from Nani’s hometown dies in front of her. Now it looks like Nani and her mother are the main suspects.

Things go from bad to bleak in paradise as Nani’s mom starts acting even odder than usual, there’s a mutiny involving snakes at the Blue Hawaii Wedding Chapel, and more bodies inconveniently pop up near Nani. Can Nani stay out of jail long enough to unmask the real killer…or will the police pin it all on her?

Excerpt

CHAPTER ONE

“Are those…human heads?” eight-year-old Daisy asks as we walk through my front door. “Real human heads? From, like, people?”

My entryway looks like Madame Tussaud stopped by for a visit and made a bunch of wax heads but got bored and left before attempting anything below the neck. Dozens of glassy eyes stare unnervingly at us, probably begging us to call the police for help.

Mom.

“No. They’re just…” My mind races for an explanation as to what these things are and why I’d even have them in my house.

Which, by the way, I wouldn’t. These heads weren’t here when I’d left for work a few hours ago. Mom must be on one of her insane decorating binges. I really should take over her bank account. I’m sure Dad didn’t mean for her to use her inheritance for this. Again. Still, I have to admit, this is way better than the time she filled the dining room with three dozen obscenely endowed tiki gods. They were basically giant erections with tiny figurines attached on one end, and they fell over every time I took a breath anywhere in the house. As a result of this pornographic collection (Mom called them cultural artifacts), I couldn’t eat in there, and I took bratwurst off the menu until Mom removed them. Being that we’re mostly German (where brats are their own food group) and from the Midwest (where it’s possibly illegal if you don’t grill them once a week), she grudgingly complied.

“Mannequin heads.” My exhausted brain finally connects with the right word. “They’re for a…a hairstylist convention.”

Daisy shrugs and walks over to a head that eerily resembles me and pokes it in the eye. Would she actually do that if it were real? Kids are creepy.

And that’s best I can come up with? A hairstylist convention? Well, I guess that’s better than saying Mom’s on an island-wide decapitation spree. At least she’s diverse. I count quite a few different races represented by the unblinking heads. Some are even wearing makeup.

“Oh good, Nani!” Mom rounds the corner in a bright lime muumuu with a sloshing mai tai to match. Great. She’s on a binge and a bender.

“I’d like your opinion,” she says as she totters in on her flip-flops. Despite their flat engineering, she walks in them as if they are six-inch high heels. Mom never really warmed to the “shoes off at the front door” culture here.

Huh. Mom never asks for my opinion on her, um, stuff. Most of the time I just stumble into the living room to find one hundred and twenty-three plastic bananas wearing handlebar mustaches and giant googly eyes.

She waves toward the severed heads. “Do you think the legs would look better in the living room or in your bedroom? I’ve given them all pedicures but can’t find shoes that fit.”

Fantastic. This means she has the rest of the body parts stashed somewhere. With the way my luck is running, she probably has the torsos scattered around the yard, which will definitely skeeve out the neighbors. Does she forget that not too long ago, I was the main suspect in three murders? I do not need the extremely nearsighted little old lady next door calling the police to say she saw me dismembering bodies.

I need to get a little tough here. “Neither. And there’s no more room in the garage for your ‘decorations.‘ You can keep the heads, but the bodies have to go away.” I know…why let her keep the heads? Because you have to pick your battles with Harriet Jones Johnson.

Mom pouted. “Well, you’ll have to move them then, because Nick and his mother are coming over in an hour for dinner.”

I groan. I don’t even do it inwardly anymore, because Mom doesn’t appear to notice or care.

“Why didn’t you tell me before I went to work?” I whine.

Now I have to cancel Daisy’s lesson, scavenge for something to cook, and, well, cook it, all in one hour. Sure, I do this all the time. But that doesn’t mean I like it. At least we are past the surprise dinners where my mother foists me on strange men. I’m in a pretty serious relationship with someone she introduced me to…at a surprise dinner, where I’d tried to pass off carryout as my own cooking.

Daisy sighs, pulls her cell out of her pocket, and dials. Unfortunately, she knows the drill. My mother has no respect for my student lessons. No matter what I say, she’ll just do it again. Daisy’s a little too used to this, and once she tells her parents about the severed heads in the foyer, I’ll probably lose her as a student.

“Okay, Dad.” Daisy ends the call and looks up at me. Her bright yellow, smiley face ukulele hasn’t even left the case. “He’s just a block away. I’ll wait for him outside.” And with that, she’s gone.

“Mom.” I turn on my mother. “I’ve told you to check with me before you invite people over. Now I’m going to lose another student.”

My mother doesn’t care. “I’m sorry, Nani. I really am. But you work for the resort now. You don’t need to teach lessons anymore.”

I take a deep breath and steel myself. “I don’t need to—I like to.” Not to mention the fact that at the rate she’s emptying her bank account, she’ll need my income to buy googly eyes, disembodied heads, and erect tiki statues.

At one time I had quite a few students. But when I was a suspect in those aforementioned murders, my students started falling away. The tragic and disturbing upside is that because of those murders, my competition is gone, and now I’m able to perform at the Aloha Lagoon Resort. I balance that with my gigs at the Blue Hawaii Wedding Chapel. So I’d narrowed my teaching down to three of my favorite students, which included Daisy.

“You’re going to have to start dinner,” Mom says. “Nick and Vera will be here in forty-five minutes. What are you going to make?”

“I thought you said an hour,” I say through gritted teeth.

An artificially black eyebrow rises. “Did I? Well, it doesn’t matter, because they’ll be here in thirty minutes.”

I really need to get Mom a watch.

“I’ll order out,” I say after doing a mental inventory of my empty cupboards. Why does this always happen when we have no food?

My mother shakes her head, causing her mai tai to spill again. A neon green puddle that looks suspiciously like antifreeze starts to run across the floor. One more mess I have to clean up.

“I think it would be better if you cook. How do you expect to keep Nick interested if we order out each time?”

I roll my eyes. “Nick and I have been dating for a while now. I don’t think it’s my cooking that he’s interested in.”

Storming past Mom before she can ask for details, I reach my room, locking the door behind me. Half an hour—or whatever it is now—is at least enough time to take a quick shower and change my clothes. I’ve just come home from a luau, and my hair smells like roasted pork.

My name is Nani Johnson, and I’m a Julliard-trained ukulele musician living on the island of Kauai. I moved here almost two years ago with my mother, after my father died. And since she’s mostly certifiable, she doesn’t work, instead spending her days either playing mah jong at the senior center, decorating our small cottage, or running around with her new friend, Vera Woodfield.

It’s funny how I’d once thought moving to Hawaii would solve all of our problems. Mom’s a diehard Polynesia-phile who thinks she’s a direct descendant of King Kamehameha’s. She’s descended from German farmers, and instead of having Tahitian ancestors, we have pasty white people from Kansas.

Title: Princess of the Light

Author: N. N. Light

Genre: Paranormal Romance, Supernatural, Spiritual Romance

Tagline:

Mary’s the Princess of the Light but her only hope is to make a pact with her enemy.

Blurb:

Mary Miller receives a startling visitation from Gabriel, the Messenger of God. The Archangel reveals an astounding truth–Mary is the Princess of the Light and even more amazing, her destiny is to battle Lucifer’s army of demons and restore the balance of good and evil on Earth. It’s getting harder to fulfill her new role and keep her identity secret while juggling her personal life, and when Than, Lucifer’s second in command, amps up the attacks on her, she knows she needs help.

Joe Deacons is everything she’s ever wanted in a man. And as providence would have it, in a moment of great need, he’s the Warrior of Light–the one who can help her defeat the forces of darkness.

Not so simple when they confront Lisbeth, a demon hell-bent on usurping Than and Lucifer himself.  When Lisbeth wages war and several innocent people die, Mary must form an alliance with her enemy in order to destroy her.  But will this be a grave error or the choice that saves their world?

Excerpt:

“Can I help you with something, sir?” The woman’s voice quivered slightly and she leaned a little, as if she suddenly needed the wall for support.

Whoa, I couldn’t help but think. I frankly felt like a moth to the flame. All I wanted to do was have a reason to get closer to her. The fact that her eyes seemed to shine with an actual light didn’t help matters. I had never felt such an automatic attraction before and I wanted to lean closer and see what was going on with her eyes.

She was either looking at me like I was the only man in the world—and quite possibly the sexiest one—or else my open gawking had freaked her out. Either way, I couldn’t have told her which it was, because my mouth was dry as a cotton ball container.

“Yes,” I managed to rasp to her. “Where is your Architecture section?”

“Are you looking for anything in particular?” Yes. You, I wanted to say. “I could look to see if it is in stock.” Oh. Are there more of you somewhere?

The sound of her voice was starting to make my heart pound. She had an earthly beauty about her. There was nothing extraordinary in her features, yet something about her just seemed to glow.

I felt my breath quicken. Joe, what’s the matter with you? Get a grip. You’ve seen girls before.

I shook my head to clear my thoughts without worrying what I looked like and said, “Please forgive my manners, but what is your name?”

“Mary.” That just became my favorite name.

“I’m very pleased to meet you,” I said as I extended my hand to her. “I’m Joseph. Please call me Joe.”

She hesitated for a moment before she shook my hand. Electricity bolted up my arm that I wasn’t prepared for. I wondered if she could hear my heart beating. Pretty sure these emotions weren’t winning me any bro-code points.

Her face flushed and her eyes brightened with interest. Let go of her hand, Joe, I tried to coach myself. If I didn’t let go of it soon, I might never be able to.

Title: Sebastian’s Castle

Author: Lisa DeVore

Genre: Romance/Fantasy

Publisher: The Wild Rose Press

Book Blurb:

Being married to a cop is hard, being the widow of one is harder. After Brynn Austin’s husband, Nate, was murdered in an undercover operation, there wasn’t enough evidence to convict the gang leader who killed him. Brynn refuses to let him kill their dream to renovate an old Connecticut castle. But her plan is hampered by a ghost who’s not ready to give up his home. Contractor Jaxson Maddox signs on to renovate the old castle that’s sat empty for years. He didn’t believe the rumors about the place being haunted. But that was before he met the resident ghost. What Jax didn’t sign on for was trouble in the form of falling for the beautiful widow, dealing with a pesky ghost, and risking his life when a threat from Brynn’s past surfaces. He’ll do whatever it takes to protect her, even if it means becoming a ghost himself.

Excerpt:

Light shone in through the windows,

but the space wasn’t any less creepy. Old cobwebs hung

from the rafters, and dust particles danced in the

sunlight. She hoped there wasn’t a family of raccoons,

or worse, living here. Brynn pushed those thoughts

from her mind and kneeled in front of the trunk with the

screwdriver. She’d never tried to pick a lock before, but

there was a first time for everything.

“If you’re set on nosing around, I would rather you

used the key. It’s under that pile of books.”

Brynn jumped to her feet and swung around to face

the voice. She gripped tightly to her only weapon, the

screwdriver.

There he stood, the same man she saw the other

day. “Who are you?” She backed toward the wall,

holding the screwdriver in front of her. “You’re

trespassing.”

“No, my dear, you’re trespassing. This is my

castle. I should be asking you the questions.”

Brynn’s eyes bugged out as she really took a look

at him. His image was fading in and out. “No,” she said

aloud, “it can’t be.”

“My dear, you don’t look well.”

“You’re a…” She patted her face.

“A what? I’m a what?” His face faded and

returned.

“You’re a ghost!”

Sacrificial Lam by Gary Guinn @gmguinn is a Gripping #Thriller! #entertowin #TWRP

perf5.000x8.000.indd

Title: Sacrificial Lam

Author: Gary Guinn

Genre: Mainstream Mystery/Thriller

Publisher: The Wild Rose Press

Book Blurb:

When English professor Lam Corso receives a death threat at work, he laughs it off.  A liberal activist at a small Southern conservative college, he’s used to stirring up controversy on campus.  It’s just part of the give and take of life.  Even when violently attacked, Lam is convinced it must be a mistake.  He can’t imagine anyone who would want to kill him for his beliefs.

When his home is broken into and his wife’s business vandalized, Lam is forced to face the truth. His wife—a passionate anti-gun crusader—is outraged when Lam brings a gun into the house for protection. The police can’t find a single lead. Left to their own devices, Lam and Susan are forced to examine their marriage, faith, and values in the face of a carefully targeted attack from an assailant spurred into action by his own set of beliefs.

What will it cost to survive?

Excerpt:

Lying at an odd angle to the road, he opened his eyes and gasped for breath. The sky was clear, the air crisp, the grass damp. His bike lay a few feet to the right of his outstretched hand, the handlebar slightly askew.

When he picked himself up off the ground, his left knee was tender where it had struck the handlebar as he went over, and his shoulder hurt where the car mirror hit him. But otherwise he had no apparent injuries. He’d be sore the next day from landing and rolling, but a rush of relief rolled over him. The damn kid could have killed him driving like that. He picked up his bike and examined it. The only real damage was a dislodged rear brake cable. He was damn lucky. It could have been much worse.

As he straddled his front tire and struggled to straighten the handlebar, the envelope jutted from the pocket of his jacket. The hair stood on his neck, and he turned and searched the empty street in the direction the car had gone. Nothing. It was a stupid idea. It was just a dumb high school kid, who probably wet his pants when he ran Lam off the road. It had to be a high school kid. But the words of the note came to him—THE JUDGMENT IS DEATH.

If Wishes Were Earls by @Luanna_Stewart #historicalromance #romance #giveaway

COVER - If Wishes Were Earls

Title: If Wishes Were Earls

Author: Luanna Stewart

Genre: Historical Romance – Victorian

Blurb:

When a mysterious note directs Miss Miranda Large to a tiny village in Cornwall to find her heart’s desire, she has no choice but to go. An enchanted keepsake heightens her curiosity. A snowstorm forces her to accept the hospitality of a sullen, albeit sexy and handsome, earl and Miranda’s wish doesn’t seem so out of reach.

Edward Penhallion, the 12th Earl of Claverlock, is not in the mood to start his search for a new wife. He wants to be left alone with his books and his dreams of revenge. But the arrival of a headstrong, sharp-tongued spinster forces him to play the charming host. Not a difficult task, given her intelligence and beauty. Suddenly, he’s not terribly eager for her to leave.

But as the snow falls and the winds blow, Edward discovers there’s more to Miranda than a lively wit and a lovely face. And Miranda wonders if the trappings of wealth are enough for true happiness.

Excerpt:

He chuckled. The low, enticing sound warmed her from the tips of her ears to the soles of her feet, and made her quite forget her urgent need. “I won’t detain you any longer. It is quite safe for you to turn around. I’m respectably clothed.”

She lowered her hand and looked over her shoulder. She’d not noticed much about his face the first time she’d seen him, being distracted by other parts of his anatomy. Her cheeks heated. Oh, heavens, the other parts were all she’d looked at. Not at all similar to those parts on statues, or in paintings. This man’s parts were—impressive. More than her cheeks heated. Why had no one told her a man’s chest, when unclothed, was so thrillingly fascinating?

Now, with the distracting portions of his person covered, she could see he was incredibly attractive. Several inches taller than her, which was unusual given her height, with auburn hair a bit longer than current fashion, and brown eyes holding a hint of humor. She might escape unscathed. The bristles on his cheeks and chin matched the hair visible on his chest, for he had not buttoned the neck of his shirt.  He had tucked in the tails, however, and was possessed of muscular thighs.

When her gaze travelled up to meet his, a smile lingered in his eyes. “Have you seen enough?”

She opened her mouth to refute his implication, but in good conscience could not. She’d been ogling the poor man. Of course she had. What living, breathing woman wouldn’t ogle such a fine specimen?

Celebrate 75 Years With #BoxcarChildren and Your Child Could Win! #kidlit #FridayReads #books

Friday Book Round Up

Welcome to this week’s edition of Friday Book Round-Up. Growing up, I loved reading the Boxcar Children series. I loved the characters and who wouldn’t love to live in a boxcar. This year marks the 75th anniversary and I wanted to take part in the celebration.

For 75 years, the Boxcar Children have created happy reading memories for generations of children around the world. This year, we (the publisher) invite readers to join Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny Alden on their greatest adventure yet—a five-book miniseries that will take them across the globe, solving mysteries in places they’ve never traveled before!

Journey on a Runaway Train (The Boxcar Children Great Adventure) by Gertrude Chandler Warner (Author), Anthony VanArsdale (Author, Illustrator)

In this all-new very special mini-series, the Aldens have been recruited by a secret society to return lost artifacts and treasures to their rightful locations—all around the world! After finding a painted turtle figurine, the Aldens are introduced to the Silverton family and Reddimus Society, a secret guild whose mission is to return lost artifacts and treasures to the sites they were taken from. The Aldens board a private train to New Mexico to return the turtle to its original home, and they encounter enemies of Reddimus along the way! The trip is a success… but instead of returning home, there’s a last-minute change in plans. The Boxcar Children must continue the mission for the society and deliver more things, all around the globe!

The Clue in the Papyrus Scroll (The Boxcar Children Great Adventure) by Gertrude Chandler Warner (Creator), Anthony VanArsdale (Illustrator)

In this all-new very special mini-series, the Aldens have been recruited by a secret society to return lost artifacts and treasures to their rightful locations―all around the world! The Aldens arrive in Egypt but the agent they’re supposed to meet has gone missing! With the help of a puzzle in a papyrus scroll, they figure out their next mission―to deliver a tiny ancient pharaoh statue to an archaeologist at the Pyramids! Along the way they outwit a thief who tries to steal all the treasures. Their next mission is to England, to return one of the “crown jewels of Stonehenge.” But someone is following them! Could it be someone from the powerful Argent family, ruthless antique collectors and bitter rivals of the Silvertons?

The Detour of the Elephants (The Boxcar Children Great Adventure) by Gertrude Chandler Warner (Creator), Anthony VanArsdale (Illustrator)

In this all-new very special miniseries, the Aldens have been recruited by a secret society to return lost artifacts and treasures to their rightful locations―all around the world! The Aldens follow a clue to Beijing, China, where they uncover their next mission―to return a mysterious clay artifact to its rightful owner. Their journey leads them to a scenic section of the Great Wall, but a thief threatens to ruin their trip and endanger their precious cargo. The Aldens’ next clue brings them to an elephant reserve in Thailand, but when their contact acts suspiciously, they worry someone close to them may be working for the other side. Who can the Aldens trust to help them return the remaining artifacts to their rightful owners?

The Shackleton Sabotage (The Boxcar Children Great Adventure) by Gertrude Chandler Warner (Creator), Anthony VanArsdale (Illustrator)

In this all-new very special miniseries, the Aldens have been recruited by a secret society to return lost artifacts and treasures to their rightful locations―all around the world! The Aldens chart a course for Sydney, Australia, and as the children tour the famed Sydney Opera House, their next puzzle―and its key―falls right into their laps. They need to find the rightful owner of a rare Australian coin. Using their knowledge about Australia, the Aldens find the coin’s owner, but a saboteur is again hot on their heels and nearly spoils their hard work. Next up the Aldens travel to frigid Antarctica, where they need to return an artifact to the hut Shackleton used on his expeditions to the South Pole. The trip is a success, but when the Aldens return, they learn the identity of the person who has been trying to ruin their plans. Will the saboteur keep them from returning the seventh and final artifact?

The Khipu and the Final Key (The Boxcar Children Great Adventure) by Gertrude Chandler Warner (Creator), Anthony VanArsdale (Illustrator)

In this all-new very special miniseries, the Aldens have been recruited by a secret society to return lost artifacts and treasures to their rightful locations―all around the world! The final leg of the Aldens’ journey brings them to South America and to the Salt Flats in northern Argentina. But when they hit a dead end, they realize someone has tricked them in order to delay their plans! Returning to Buenos Aires, the Aldens connect with the Silvertons and are able to get back on track. But it is clear their rivals are closer than ever. The Aldens’ final artifact is their most delicate yet―a rare orange orchid they must return to Machu Picchu in Peru. With the stakes higher than ever, the Aldens make a shocking discovery about the Silvertons and the Argents. Will the Boxcar Children be able to use what they’ve learned to return the final Reddimus artifact intact?

They just need the Aldens’ help in delivering them, along with the turtle, to the first return point at Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico. The siblings ride an antique train across the country to deliver the treasures to the special agent in New Mexico, encountering enemies of Reddimus along the way. Book Blurb:

While the other stalks his victims in the cosmopolitan city of Seville, Spain in the 21st century; knowing that only he could uncover the true motives of one of the world’s most infamous serial killers—Jack the Ripper.

Excerpt:

Prologue

January, 1888

The solemn lodge hid from unworthy eyes, an unnoticeable forgotten place made of granite. Two Sphinx- like granite lions with women’s heads peered down from the entrance of the lodge. An “ankh” adorned the lion’s neck, entwined with a cobra. An image of a woman embellished the neck and breast of the other lion, speaking of fertility and procreation.

Fervent men slowly make their way up the three levels of narrowing steps, passing under the two Egyptian swords with curved serpentine blades, passing through the two tall bronze doors.

One man glanced up as he ascended the steps, silently mouthing, “the temple of the Supreme Council Freemasons,” made of brass letters and set in stone. His gaze fell to the plaque cut in stone, “Freemasonry Builds Its Temples in the Hearts of Men and Among Nations.”

Stone columns extend high above the entrance and partially conceal an image of an Egyptian god, backed with radiating sun and flanked by six large golden snakes. He stepped past the threshold of the lodge entirely made of marble, exotic wood, and statues carved from gold.

The ofting room decorated with many symbols, especially the serpent, and portraits of famous and influential men, lined the walls. Illuminations flickered above the men, resembling stars in the dark blue sky; the golden serpents silently watching in the blue heavens.

Slowly removing his clothes, wrapping the long black

robe around him, placing a hood over his head to partially conceal his face.

In the recesses of the ancient temple, an ornately decorated room filled with candles, lighted the way for the men filing in. Dressed in long black robes, hands pressed solemnly together, slowly the row of men trudge into the Temple room. Each with their face down, they instinctively form a large circle in the room.

The room fell with a deathly silence; abruptly three knocks reverberated throughout the room. The Worshipful Master spoke, “You will admit him in the name of the Grand Architect of the Universe, and let him be placed in the West.”

Gradually the door creaks open, a young man enters with a black robe and the left knee and breast exposed. The young man’s face is covered by a dark cloth and led around the circle by a rope around his neck. The candidate is led to the oath of secrecy where the Worshipful Master stands. A sword is pricked to the candidate’s left breast.

“As this is a prick to the flesh at this time, so may the remembrance of it be to your conscience hereafter, should you ever attempt improperly to reveal any of the secrets with which you are about to be entrusted.”

The group silently watch as the candidate is instructed to kneel with his left knee bare and bent, his right foot forming a square and the body being erect in that square. The left hand supports the Volume of the Sacred Law, compass and square and right hand placed thereon.

“‘Vouch safe Thine Aid, Almighty Father, Grand Architect of the Universe, to this our present conviction. Grant that this Candidate for Masonry, now kneeling before thee, may dedicate and devote his life to thy Service, and become a true and faithful Brother amongst us. To this end endue him with such a competency of thy Divine Wisdom, that assisted by the secrets of our Royal Masonic Art, he may be better enabled to display the beauties of true godliness to the Honour and glory of Thy Most Holy Name.’ ”

“‘I do most solemnly and sincerely promise and swear to have my throat cut across, my tongue torn out by the roots, and my body buried in the rough sands of the sea at low water mark, where the tide ebbs and flows in twenty- four hours…should I ever knowingly or willingly violate this my solemn oath or obligation as an Entered Apprentice Mason. So help me God.’ ”

The young man is then presented with white gloves and escorted to the pedestal in the East to become an Entered Apprentice.

Throughout the ceremony another waited expectedly. Another man would join them, and this man would be the one. He had done a lot to encourage them to allow this man to be initiated.

But he could never have foretold the events to come.

i-heard-myself-speak-with-confidence-and

A candlelit chamber houses a secret meeting where four men sit around a table, each wearing the long black robes and only talking above a whisper.

“The time has come to make our stand and proclaim to our Brothers that it’s time. It’s our time to cause such a panic, that people will not know whom to turn to. That the reliance on religion and government will pass. It’s our time to take control, and whoever does not stand behind us will

fall.”“Yes, we must give a sign to our Brothers that can only be recognized by them, something that will forever change the world.”

Julie’s gaze swept the landscape. The moon’s rays glittered on the snowy bows. The birch trees stood with their trunks painted white to match their limbs. Thick pine branches held fast under the weight of the new fallen snow, making them appear as if they wore white blankets made of virginal cotton about each limb. Sparkling mounds cluttered the ground between the trees, hiding the forest’s treasures beneath.

Save the sound of the hooves pounding on the ground, they journeyed through the silent night to a clearing in the trees. Nicholai clicked to his stallion, and with a flick of the reins, the steed increased into a rolling canter up a steep incline. Julie’s thighs pushed against the sides of the horse as she tried to match the new rhythm.

Nicholai’s breath warmed her ear when he spoke. “Not too much further. It’s right up ahead.”

“What’s up ahead?” Just as the words left Julie’s mouth, they crested over the ridge.

The frozen valley below took her breath away. A glaciate waterfall stood still as a statue against the rocky terrain. The cascading water, stopped as if by magic, reflected the moon’s soft rays and cast tiny prisms on the snow below.

Julie’s breath hitched in her throat. She took in the serene beauty of the land as they cruised at a slow trot. Debris rolled under Kedar’s hoofs. It created a hollow rattle in the night, barely audible to Juliette.

When they reached the valley, Nicholai pulled up the stallion and handed the reins to Julie. She patted the horse’s steaming neck as her lover dismounted with a fluid grace. He turned, grabbed Kedar’s reins, then reached up for Julie. Her thick coat seemed to melt as his strong hands clasped around her waist. She put her hands on his shoulders, and the bulge of muscle under his coat played under her fingers when he helped her down. A thrill went through her body.

Her breath frosted the air in a white plume. The lovers held each other, his hands about her waist, hers resting on his shoulders. Quiet as the moon above, they stared deeply into each other’s eyes. Nicholai captured her lips in a gentle caress that welcomed her to this special place.

Small Towns Attract Big Drama: @LiviaQuinn is #ProudtoWriteMilitary! #ASMSG #IARTG #EntertoWin

Her First Knight web NEW final 03302016 copy

It’s funny how you look back at your world and get new perspective. My stories – whether contemporary, mystery, suspense, or paranormal – have always been based in small town communities. Odd, that a city girl who grew up near one of the most exciting, bustling metropolises (metropoli?)— Washington, DC, dontcha think?

But my conclusions about small towns continually change. I was at a SWAT conference with crime and law enforcement professionals and one of the instructors – a successful author (Holly Roberts aka D’Elen McClain) who was a cop in AZ for years said, “What you see in big cities you see ten times over in small towns.” I hadn’t thought of that. In my paranormal series, Jack Lang actually choses Destiny because he believes a small town will offer a low crime, safe, quaint alternative to raise his daughter. Not.

So, in addition to the appeal of less traffic, a tight community, the ability to grow friendships and interact with some of the leaders in your local government, it’s like a microcosm of life in big cities, distilled or concentrated and bottled in a smaller package.

We have our sex crimes, homicides, drugs, dysfunctional families, tragedies, and men and women join the service in higher numbers here. We see all this up close because not only is the geographic area less congested but there’s a smaller population. I my small town, the one I transplanted to from the crowded Mid-Atlantic, my best man is the sheriff, a friend is the Chief of Police, another heads up SWAT and trains personnel. Many, many residents and people we associate with are either active duty, separated or retired military. This is simply one representation of small town, USA.

So when I write my fictional small town it’s a reflection of real life. Heroes, romance, suspense, quirky characters, villains – they’re inspired from real life. Including the scene from Her First Knight, my favorite of my military romance novels set in Larue, Louisiana home of a huge military family, the Larues and the Calloways.

Ridge is so passionate about veterans but one little slip up could mean disaster for his mission.

Excerpt:

The morning after…

“He’s like some kind of stripper Robin Hood,” Diane said.

“Did you see the paper this morning?” Sally asked Buffy in a low voice.

Diane and her friends had the Washington Post laid out in front of them. Had she really thought she’d escape by leaving her room?

“About what?” Buffy asked pretending ignorance. She wanted to close her eyes and wish it all away.

Cathy said, “The guy that impersonated Tucker? Seems he’s a rich muckity muck who’s been testifying in front of Congress. The media has made him out to be some kind of sex pervert.”

“Ridge?” Buffy’s heart sank. “That’s terrible.”

“Yeah, and the evil congresswoman who’s been giving him the third degree for the last two days said she knew there was something suspicious about him. I quote: ‘No one is as selfless as he pretends to be.’ She’s calling for an investigation.” Diane continued, “It says here he got a doctorate in Mechanical Bionics from MIT when he was seventeen! The guy’s a friggin’ Einstein. You just don’t think of geniuses looking like that.”

Sonya said, “More like da Vinci. What else?”

“He was recruited into the Army Rangers and ended up doing classified research and ‘on-site quality control’,” Diane read.

“In his work, that probably means on the battlefield,” Sally said.

“There’s another picture of him accepting an award from the President for his work with veterans.” Sonya looked at Buffy. “What was he was doing on that stage? It’s obvious he wasn’t a cover model.”

Sally said, “It might be obvious now, but he was my favorite of the cover models. I was shocked when the real Tucker showed up and we found out this guy wasn’t even in the industry. Boy, what I wouldn’t give to have him on one of my Seal Team Extraction covers. He seems like such a nice man, too. Did you know he gave me a donation for my Wounded Warrior fund?” Sally’s readers had raised thousands for the WWP.

“Maybe it was a publicity stunt that had to do with this hearing, the bill he’s trying to get support for,” Claranne Braxton suggested, her eyes brightening as if she was on to something.

“Wait a minute,” Sally said, suddenly alert. “What bill is that?”

Sonya leaned over Diane’s shoulder, “Looks like it’s a bill for some kind of cooperative, MiliCare H.R. 6159?”

Sally slapped her forehead with her palm. “Are you kidding me? That’s him?” She grabbed her purse. “I don’t know why I didn’t put it together. He’s R. Romano of… here it is.” She slapped the article on the table.

Claranne read it aloud.

With the passage of H.R. 6159, the new consortium group will ease some of the financial stress on the VA’s already imploding budgetary problems and provide medical care to veterans. Ridge Romano, the architect of the proposal said, “Government funds have been slashed repeatedly and our servicemen and women should not have to fight for their rightful treatment when they are fighting for their health and their very lives.”

Romano quoted President Lincoln: “The mission for government is ‘To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan.’ I ask you, can these values be accomplished by our current government system which is stretched beyond its founders’ imaginings? The government is over burdened, and our veterans are paying the price but private companies and professionals in every field are ready and willing to fill the gap. This bill will be a step toward better lives for our vets.

They deserve it. We owe it to them. Don’t let them down.”

“Wow,” Sonja said. “I can’t believe he was the man on that stage.”

But the article only affirmed Buffy’s feelings. She’d known, even that first night, that Ridge Romano was a man in a million. And, he was the one for

her.

Excerpt:
“What about our ‘friends’?” He turned his head and looked in the direction of the rocks where the assailants of a few minutes before let loose the last salvo of blaster fire.

She put the tri-dee-viewer to her eyes again and scanned the area. “There’s no sign of life over there. They must all be dead or badly injured. They’d have shot at us again if they were still capable.”

“Unless they are waiting for us to show ourselves, so they can pick us off more easily,” Kerry said.

He made as if to stand, and in an instant, she drew her pistol.

“Like I said before, no sudden moves. Get up—slowly.”

“So you are making me a prisoner?”

“Not exactly, but I’m not stupid enough to take any risks.”

He rose to his feet, his gaze not leaving her gunhand. Several inches taller than her, broad shouldered and slim, he presented a commanding figure. His expression froze as his gaze homed in on the insignia on her breast pocket, his eyes like chips of blue ice.

“You work for the Union.”

“I work for myself.”

“Then why are you wearing the insignia of the Global Union of Earth and Allied Planets?”

“I have a license to requisition any enemy ship trespassing in the sectors of space over which they hold dominion.”

“A licensed pirate in the pay of the Global Union,” Kerry’s eyes showed outright contempt. She almost preferred the icy coolness.

“I prefer to think of myself as a freelancer—doing a service.”

His expression did not change, although he did change tack. “You could have left me to die—or just shot me. Why didn’t you?”

“Call it a personality flaw. I don’t like abandoning someone who’s wounded even to save my own skin. And I don’t kill in cold blood. If I have to shoot someone, I’d rather they were facing me with their eyes open.” Even if I did swear to leave their dead body for the Union to use in their hideous experiments. Keep it casual. Don’t let him guess what’s really in your mind.

To her amazement, he smiled the most devastating smile she’d ever seen, made even more remarkable because he didn’t look as if he did it very often.

“My own philosophy as it happens.” His eyes narrowed. “It seems almost a pity we are on opposite sides.”

“Opposite sides?” How much did he guess?

“I have no love for the Alliance. That puts us on opposite sides, even if you are a pirate.”

She gave him her most withering look. “Fine. And just because I decided to save your neck, don’t get any ideas. We don’t have to like each other.”

Genre: Time-Travel Romance

Publisher: Tirgearr Publishing

Book Blurb:

One minute, Hattie Williams is in a museum, sketching a gold necklace that belonged to Hatshepsut, first female Pharaoh of Egypt; and the next, she’s lying in a room too archaic to be the museum, with a breathtakingly handsome, half-naked man named Senemut bending over her.

Hattie soon discovers she’s been thrust into the body and life of Hatshepsut, with no way back to her own time. Tuthmosis, the heir to the throne, hates her; the High Priest of Amun and the commander of the army want to kill her and Tuthmosis; and the best bathroom facilities in the country are the equivalent of a cat-box.

To make matters more difficult, she’s falling helplessly in love with Senemut, and soon, she’s not sure she even wants to return home. To protect Tuthmosis from assassination, the lovers arrange to put Hattie on the throne. But, what should she do when she suddenly finds herself, an obscure artist from Chicago, crowned ruler of all Egypt?

Excerpt:

“If I’m going to be stuck in here, I might as well finish my work,” she murmured. “Tom’s bound to come back—I’m sure he will.” Her voice echoed unconvincingly in the dusty, claustrophobic room.

Picking up her pencil, she focused deliberately on copying the tiny hieroglyphics with extreme precision. Gradually, she became absorbed in her work and forgot her predicament. Minutes flowed by with the only sound in the room the scratching of her pencil on the paper.

At last, she completed the final symbol on her detailed drawing and set down her pencil with a twinge of disappointment. She was curiously drawn to the glittering possession of the ancient, yet strangely modern woman. Hatshepsut had ruled Egypt fifteen hundred years before Christ, at a time when women were considered no more important than servants or dogs. How had she managed it?

The vagrant breeze whispered past her face again, leaving a whiff of exquisite perfume in its wake. A rustle, like the caress of costly linen against bare skin, drew her attention. She felt a strong presence, though she knew she was alone in the tiny room.

“Touch it.”

The words were so faint, Hattie wasn’t sure she’d actually heard them.

“Who’s there?” she asked, though she didn’t expect to get a response. The room was too small to hide anyone.

“Touch the necklace.”

Hattie spun around, searching for the source of the barely audible words. “Tom, is that you? If it’s you, I don’t think this is funny! Open the door right now.” She thumped it with her fist for emphasis.

There was no response.

Hattie turned back to the exquisitely fashioned falcon. Maybe it was her overworked imagination playing a trick on her, but the advice seemed sound. Perhaps if she touched the necklace, she could make a connection—psychic, empathic?—with the long-dead monarch. The necklace was strangely compelling, like a long forgotten yet treasured memory.

She reached out slowly, cautiously. As her fingertips gently grazed the golden bird, an electric shock pulsed through her and a sudden wave of dizziness sapped her strength.

“Come to me,” the ghostly voice whispered, stronger now. “Come to me. I have need of you.”

The sweet, cloying scent of incense filled Hattie’s nostrils, and flashes of light exploded behind her eyes. Her vision blurred; she felt as if she were reeling, falling down a long, dark tunnel. Gasping, she reached out blindly for something, anything, to steady herself. Her fingers skimmed across the surface of the table and fastened around the necklace. Clutching it, she fell heavily to the floor as everything went black.

The Guardian Book Cover

Title: The Guardian

Author: Jacquie Biggar

Genre: Paranormal Romantic Suspense

Book Blurb:

Can two lost souls stop a madman with the help of a sarcastic angel?

Lucas Carmichael and Scott Anderson had it all, money, fame, and fortune. But one night’s stupid mistake takes everything they thought they cherished and dumps it upside down.

A car accident ends Lucas’ life and leaves Scott injured and bitter.

As the local ME, Tracy York, investigates the case, discrepancies begin to point to more than a simple drunk driving incident. When threats are made to Tracy’s life can Scott and his guardian angel, Lucas, protect her, or will she become another casualty?

Excerpt:

“Look, Trace…”

“Don’t you ‘look, Trace’, me.” She sighed, and moved to his side. Her fingers sent tingles upward from where they rested on his arm. “You may be used to playing the hero for damsels in distress, but that’s not me, okay?” Her eyes were emerald green, mesmerizing in their brilliance. “I’m used to taking care of myself. I don’t need coddling.”

No, maybe she didn’t. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t use someone to take the burden away.

He wanted to be that someone.

He raised a hand and brushed a velvety soft cheek, reveling in her body’s response. Eyelids fluttered and lips parted as though waiting for a kiss. Maybe she didn’t want the fairy tale, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t be her prince.

He leaned down and accepted her invitation.

Heaven.

Her taste reminded him of blue skies and endless meadows. Of songbirds and bubbling brooks. She was his fire when he got cold and food when he was hungry. She made him weak, yet superhero strong, all with a look or a touch. And he couldn’t get enough.

“Take me home with you,” he whispered.

Tracy gazed at him, her eyes conflicted. “We should…”

“What? Slow down? Deny what’s happening between us?” He tunneled his hand into her hair and cupped the side of her head, relieved when she leaned into the touch. “I can’t. If there’s anything I’ve learned in the past couple of weeks, it’s that there are no guarantees.”

He leaned forward until their foreheads touched. Until every breath was shared. Until there was no room for misunderstandings.

“I want you.”

Excerpt:

Gruffly he added, “The Watchers haven’t transmitted any Compulsions since Dev died. Until this morning. The Betrayers weren’t expecting it. I’m hoping that buys us some time.”

The Mustang ahead of him idled forward, and he gained painstaking inches. Still he waited, shifting in his seat, analyzing their situation.

Behind them, metal crashed into metal.

Libby screamed.

They jolted forward, their seatbelts locking them down as his truck lurched and skidded to the left.

“What the hell?” Nick twisted in his seat to see out the rear window.

Its front end wedged under his bumper, a Subaru station wagon sat motionless, steam hissing from its hood. A woman, black braids swinging in time with her steps, stalked past Libby’s window brandishing what looked like a hunting knife. “You cut me off two miles ago!” she yelled. She jammed it into one of the Mustang’s tires. “You’re gonna pay!”

Libby clutched the seat belt. “Road rage. Holy shit.”

“It’s not normal,” Nick muttered.

“What do you mean?” She blinked owlishly from behind her glasses. “You haven’t seen road rage in your line of work?”

“That’s not what concerns me. Hold on.” He jerked the wheel to the left. Glass cracked. Metal shrieked.

Libby gripped the ‘oh shit’ bar. “What are you doing?”

“Making our own lane. It’s time we moved on.”

The flagman waved wildly. Gunning it, he angled around the Mustang and flattened a trio of cones, clearing the way. He hit the gas, and the truck leapt up and over the median strip. He jammed on the brakes, waited until an eighteen wheeler passed, its horn blaring. Flooring it, he roared across two lanes of traffic. Cars swerved. Horns blasted. His adrenaline still pumping, he eased off the gas and fell in behind an SUV.

He glanced at Libby. “You can open your eyes now.”

She cracked one lid. “Where are we going?”

“Across town. Pittsburgh is the ‘City of Bridges.’ It’s out of our way, but it’ll get us there.”

She threw up a hand. “You want to tell me what that was all about?”

“No.” So much for buying time. “We have to get to the network.”

“You’re a guardian of humans. Shouldn’t you do something?”

He shook his head. “Can’t right now.”

“Betrayers?” She’d wrapped her arms around herself.

He glanced in his side view mirror as they passed the car in front of them. “No.”

“Well, what do they look like?”

Nick shelved his fears. She needed to know. And he needed to tell her. “Like you and me. And like Keepers, they’re as close to human as you can get. They’re everywhere our clans are. Except their groups are called broods.”

“How do you know they’re after you?”

All his grief, all his sorrow rose up and grabbed hold. “It’s like the air is suddenly stale,” he ground out. “Fear, angst, dread surrounds you, as thick as cobwebs.” He wiped a hand over his mouth. “That’s how.”

(Shopping for a Billionaire #10)
Publication date: September 20th 2016
Genres: Adult, Romance

Gerald Wright works for billionaires. He never imagined he’d become one.

The former Navy Seal is a chauffeur by day, artist by night, so when hotter-than-ever ex-fiancée Suzanne Dayton interrupts his nude model sculpting class to serve him with inheritance paperwork from a man he’s never heard of, he assumes it’s a joke.

Turns out the joke’s on him. There’s just one catch. A big one.

And it might be Suzanne — in more ways than he ever dreamed.

SNEAK PEEK:

He smelled like home. Like love. Like promise and comfort, like passion and disbelief.

“What’s wrong?” he snapped, his face alternating between joy and anger. “Why are you here?”

Coming to her senses, she extracted the thick envelope from her brief bag, looking him square in the eye. “Legal matter. I’ve been instructed to deliver this to you.” She used remarkable restraint in not peering around Gerald to get more of an eyeful of Declan McCormick’s stately form.

Then again, Gerald was an impenetrable wall of muscle himself, not easily subverted. She’d need taller heels to peer around him. He did not move his palm from her arm, and his touch infused her, a deeply satisfying sense of connection slowly creeping along her skin, her breath quickening, his touch ringing bells inside her that had been dormant for a decade.

“What is it?”

“Read it. You’ll understand.” She turned on her heel and started to leave, shaking inside so hard she might trigger the New Madrid fault.

He glared at her. “What? That’s it? Ten years and that’s it?” He pulled back, breaking contact.

All her anxiety faded, like an antidote injected straight into the heart, his words kicking in, providing such clarity.

“Ten years you chose, Gerald,” she hissed, mouth curling, throat seizing. “You do not get to put this on me.” Grief flared in her, a burst like a fireball, and then it turned to the ash of anger, a light coat settling over every spare surface of her heart.

His eyebrows shot up, eyes gliding away, his nose twitching and mouth tightening as if holding back.

Squaring her shoulders, Suzanne decided to make this easy for him. God only knew why. “My law firm is handling the estate of deceased billionaire Harold Hopewell. You’ve been named in his will.” She tapped the thick envelope in his hand. “These papers explain everything.”

“Explain what?”

“You’re his heir. One of them, at least.”

Tell Me A Secret

Title: Tell Me a Secret

Author: Ann Everett

Genre: New Adult Romance (18+, steamy scenes)

Book Blurb:

Jace Sloan has it all. He’s smoking hot, a college football star with a storybook family, and he’s never met a woman he couldn’t charm. He’s also never met one who makes him want to be a better man…until he meets Maggie. Now, this self-proclaimed geek with wild red hair and the greenest eyes he’s ever seen has him thinking all kinds of crazy thoughts. Like settling down and being a one-woman man.

Maggie Fielding is anything but Jace’s type. For starters, her IQ is bigger than her chest size. But Jace is panty melting hot, and she’s having a hard time remembering that he’s bad news. If only she could stop telling him her secrets, because her answers to his questions just might have both of them falling in love for the first time.

Excerpt:

The next morning, he woke early and looked at his bed partner, her face, now relaxed in deep sleep. Sliding out of bed, he eased to the bookshelves and ran his finger over the contents.

“What are you doing?”

He replaced the item and turned to face her. Still sleepy-eyed, her hair was a tangled mess. She raked fingers through it, then adjusted her shirt. He liked the way she looked in the early light streaming through the window. “Did you collect all this?”

She sat up. “Yeah, weird right?”

He smirked. “Not at all. Every girl I know collects rocks and birds’ nests.”

“You think the collection is weird? Check this out.” She joined him, opened a drawer and produced a notebook. Inside, the shape of each rock was traced onto a page with the location, date and a summary.

He thumbed through the pages, stopped at random and tried to match a rock to the drawing.  “This is like a puzzle.”

She pointed to the page number, then chose a stone and turned it over in her palm.

“You see the number written here on the back? It corresponds with the page number in the book.”

He flipped through it. “Go to page thirty-four.”

She fanned the pages and stopped.

He laid a pebble within the outline and read.

We’ve had a particularly dry spring which has allowed me to explore the creek bed behind Rose’s house. Today, I found this rock in the shape of a heart. Since it’s July fourth. It signifies the heart of our country.

 He bent with laughter.

She jerked the notebook from his hands and swatted him. “Stop! I was ten-years-old.”

He tried to straighten. “I’m sorry, but this is funny. Really now, don’t you think it’s funny? You were cataloging rocks and writing deep, insightful shit about them.”

“Oh, I wouldn’t find anything funny in your room from your childhood?”

He struggled to get control of himself. “No.”

“Oh, excuse me, I forgot. Your room is probably filled with tons of trophies from every sport you ever played. Mr. Superstar, Mr. Super Handsome, Mr. Super Jock.”

“You think I’m super handsome?”

She swatted him again, jerked the drawer open, and put the book inside.  “Oh, hush.”

He stopped laughing and got serious. “I’ve been thinking about your dad. What if he

doesn’t know about you? What if your mom never told him? That would explain why there was no contact.”

“Not possible.”

“Why not?”

“Believe me. My mom was not the kind of woman to keep that news a secret. She would have used it to her advantage. No, whoever he is—he knows. He probably paid her off. That’s what she would have wanted.”

“Even if he gave her money, he’d still be curious. Any man would. Right?” Jace took her hand in his and she didn’t pull away. He liked the way it felt. Soft and warm.  “You should try to find him. And I’ll help you.”

Legacy by @FieldingHannah + #EntertoWin a Karl Lagerfeld Bag #Romance #giveaway

Legacy cover

Title: Legacy

Author: Hannah Fielding

Genre: Romance

Publisher: London Wall

Book Blurb:

A troubled young journalist finds her loyalties tested when love and desire unearth dark secrets from the past.

Spring, 2010. When Luna Ward, a science journalist from New York, travels halfway across the world to work undercover at an alternative health clinic in Cadiz, her ordered life is thrown into turmoil.

The doctor she is to investigate, the controversial Rodrigo Rueda de Calderon, is not what she expected. With his wild gypsy looks and devilish sense of humour, he is intent upon drawing her to him. But how can she surrender to a passion that threatens all reason; and how could he ever learn to trust her when he discovers her true identity? Then Luna finds that Ruy is carrying a corrosive secret of his own…

Luna’s native Spanish blood begins to fire in this land of exotic legends, flamboyant gypsies and seductive flamenco guitars, as dazzling Cadiz weaves its own magic on her heart. Can Luna and Ruy’s love survive their families’ legacy of feuding and tragedy, and rise like the phoenix from the ashes of the past?

Legacy is a story of truth, dreams and desire. But in a world of secrets you need to be careful what you wish for…

Excerpt:

As the dancer finished her set and retreated, the gypsy stood up, came forward and murmured an announcement of the next song, making a fresh thrill ripple up Luna’s spine at the husky, masculine sound of his voice. He started the rhythmic clapping of a toca de mano, and the waiter went round refilling glasses while the audience joined in, working up to a crescendo of hand-claps until the whole tavern shook with cries of ‘olé’ and ‘anda’.

The gypsy was much taller than Luna had guessed – over six feet, with a perfectly proportioned, lithe body. Wide shoulders and a broad chest, narrow hips and muscled thighs clad in a pair of jeans that hugged his form so well it left little to the imagination. She was aware of his intense magnetism, which was just as powerful as his steely physique. At this distance, she could detect the dark, curling hair lightly covering his chest just visible at the neck of the faded T-shirt he wore with surprising panache.

The muscles of his arms flexed as this time he picked up a guitar and strummed a rapid cascade of chords. He gazed down into her eyes. The dazzling white smile he gave her almost stopped her heart and she lowered her head to hide her confusion.

As the rhythmic clapping subsided, he began to sing. His voice was rich and mellow, warm with vibrant tones and tingling with emotion, beguiling and beckoning like a filtre d’amour that scram-bled her thoughts and stirred primitive and alarming desires within her. The music was plaintive and feverish, and as Luna watched his long fingers alternately strum and flick across the strings of his guitar, first lightly and then harder at lightning speed, she found herself wondering how those hands would feel on her skin. His songs were in Caló so she could not understand the words, but she could sense the intensity of feeling that went into the full, vigorous notes and although he sang to the audience, she knew from the sensuous intimacy in his eyes that he was singing for her alone.

Luna sat breathless, her gaze fixed on his expressive face, stirred to the depths of her soul.

He was applauded madly as the last notes of his passionate melody faded and his fingers lay still on the guitar. Luna clapped as long and loudly as everyone else. New customers were now piling into the tavern, and she shook herself out of her trance and tried to wrestle back her grip on reality. She glanced at her watch: it was past one o’clock in the morning. The gypsy guitarist was surrounded by fans, young and old, and was obviously enjoying the attention. She must be thinking of getting back, she told herself, her eyes lingering on the broad, muscular back of the guitarist as he headed for the bar. She wondered if she would find a taxi at this hour. After signalling to the waiter she paid her bill, leaving a generous tip.

Then, on impulse, she took out of her purse a fifty-euro note. ‘Por favor dar a este al guitarrista que acaba de cantar, please give this to the guitarist who just sang,’ she told him.

The waiter grinned broadly. ‘Gracias, muchas gracias, señorita,’ he said, giving a curt bow. ‘But things are only warming up. Are you sure you won’t stay and enjoy the dancing?’

As if on cue, the musicians still on stage took up a fast, syncopated thrumming on their guitars and the whole crowd whooped and broke into wild stamping again.

‘You see, señorita, the night is still young, as they say.’

Luna stood up and smiled, calling on all her self-discipline. ‘Not for me, I’m afraid. But thank you, the music has been wonderful,’ she said, and started to make her way back through the room as the waiter hurried off to deliver her tip.

People jostled past Luna in their eagerness to join the dancing, which by now had spilled out on to the patio. The relentless rhythm of the music seemed to grow louder as if calling her back. And then she looked up at the bar.

He was there with the waiter, who was saying something in his ear and pointing in Luna’s direction. The guitarist ran a hand through his hair and looked at her. He nodded his thanks for the tip, and held up two glasses filled with what looked like fino. A quizzical expression danced in his bright eyes.

Luna’s mouth went dry: he was inviting her to stay. Conflicting emotions flashed through her, none that she could quite grasp but every one of them making her heart pump faster as the music continued to vibrate through the tavern.

Part of her wanted to succumb to the heady atmosphere and wished she could be like all these people – sensual, passionate, uninhibited. But something told her that if she stayed any longer she would be stepping into unfamiliar and dangerous territory, and that unnerved her far too much.

She took a deep breath and smiled back at him, shaking her head apologetically as she kept moving through the crowd. He watched her go and took a swig from one of the glasses, his gaze unwavering.

Luna made her way to the door. She went up the steps and turned at the entrance to catch a last glimpse of the man who had disturbed her equilibrium so powerfully.

Over the heads of those around him, he was still watching her intently. His lips quirked as their eyes fused again. Luna focused her camera on him and clicked, blushing at her own nerve as she did so. Her thoughts in turbulence, she stepped out abruptly into the night.

Author Biography:

Hannah Fielding is an incurable romantic. The seeds for her writing career were sown in early childhood, spent in Egypt, when she came to an agreement with her governess Zula: for each fairy story Zula told, Hannah would invent and relate one of her own. Years later – following a degree in French literature, several years of travelling in Europe, falling in love with an Englishman, the arrival of two beautiful children and a career in property development – Hannah decided after so many years of yearning to write that the time was now. Today, she lives the dream: writing full time at her homes in Kent, England, and the South of France, where she dreams up romances overlooking breath-taking views of the Mediterranean.

Hannah is a multi-award-winning novelist, and to date she has published five novels: Burning Embers, ‘romance like Hollywood used to make’, set in Kenya; The Echoes of Love, ‘an epic love story that is beautifully told’ set in Italy; and the Andalusian Nights Trilogy – Indiscretion, Masquerade and Legacy – her fieriest novels yet, set in sunny, sultry Spain.

It’s a Ceruleans Print Party and You Can #Win Complete Series @MeganTayte #Giveaway #YA

Ceruleans poster

The Ceruleans: mere mortals infused with power over life and death. If the might of the heavens were in your hands, would you be sinner or saint?

The Ceruleans is a young-adult paranormal romance series set in a world in which angels walk among us. The Ceruleans don’t think of themselves as angels, though – just ordinary people who happen to have a most extraordinary gift. And certainly few of them behave like angels. Because as it turns out, humans don’t handle well the reality of playing god…

The story of the Ceruleans spans five books:

Death Wish

IN SEARCH OF THE MEANING OF DEATH, SHE’LL FIND THE MEANING OF LIFE.

Seventeen-year-old Scarlett Blake is haunted by death. Her estranged sister has made the ultimate dramatic exit. Running away from school, joining a surfing fraternity, partying hard: that sounds like Sienna. But suicide? It makes no sense.

Following in her sister’s footsteps, Scarlett comes to an isolated English cove with grand plans to uncover the truth. Alone. But she hasn’t reckoned on meeting two boys who are determined to help her. Luke: the blue-eyed surfer who’ll see the real Scarlett, who’ll challenge her, who’ll save her. And Jude: the elusive drifter with a knack for turning up whenever Scarlett’s in need.

As Scarlett’s quest for the truth unravels, so too does her grip on reality as she’s always known it. Because there’s something strange going on in this little cove. A dead magpie circles the skies. A dead deer watches from the undergrowth. Hands glow with light. Warmth. Power.

What transpires is a summer of discovery. Of what it means to conquer fear. To fall in love. To choose life. To choose death.

To believe the impossible.

Forget-Me-Not

IN THE FACE OF DEATH, SHE MUST PROTECT THOSE SHE LOVES.

Death is stalking Scarlett Blake. As if the encroaching darkness in her head wasn’t enough, she’s become disturbingly accident prone. Falling off a cliff isn’t ideal when all you want is as much time as possible to live, to love.

Her fate is horrifying. Unbearable. And inescapable. No one can save Scarlett from The End that’s looming. Not Jude, the Cerulean who is intent on Claiming her. Not Luke, the boy who is intent on loving her.

The clock is ticking, louder with every heartbeat. Now Scarlett must decide how best to protect the people she loves. Will she trust in Jude and the life-after-death he promises? Will she stand against the Fallen, who have her sister captive? Will she carry the burden of her death alone – every headache, every hallucination, every wrenching, aching emotion?

And when the clock falls silent, when the darkness eclipses the light, will Scarlett fight for life? Or will she have no choice but to surrender?

Wild Blue Yonder

IN A WARPED HEAVEN, SHE MUST CHOOSE HER FATE: OBEDIENCE OR REBELLION

When Scarlett Blake chose life-after-death as a Cerulean, she expected to grieve for all she left behind: her boyfriend, her best friend, her mother, her home. But at least Cerulea, her heaven, would be… well, heavenly. Right?

Wrong.

The world in which Scarlett awakens is very far from her idea of a utopia. Picturesque, sure, and serene. But there can be no paradise within the unforgiving walls of a prison, be they of cold, hard stone or beautifully blue water.

Now Scarlett faces her hardest decision yet: be a good, dutiful Cerulean, or be true to herself and fight for freedom.

And if she can find a way to escape, what then? Can she finally reunite with her lost sister? Can she save Sienna from the murderous Fallen? Can she evade her destiny with the Ceruleans?

Can Scarlett Blake ever reclaim her life-before-death… or must she let go of all she loves?

Devil and the Deep

STORM CLOUDS ARE GATHERING, AND THEY WILL RAIN BLOOD.

Scarlett is living her happy-ever-after, back in the real world. Only the ‘happy’ part is proving problematic.

For starters, there’s the isolation. Being a Cerulean among humans is fraught with risk, so her time with people can only be fleeting. Which means being with Luke but not being with Luke.

Then there’s her Cerulean light, her power over life and death. Less awesome talent, as it turns out, and more overwhelming responsibility. And it comes with rules – rules that are increasingly difficult to obey.

But what’s really pushing Scarlett to the precipice is something much bigger than herself, than her life in the cove. A force to be reckoned with:

Blood.

When long-buried truths are exposed, will Scarlett keep her head above water – or will she drown in the blood-dimmed tide that is unleashed?

Darkly, Deeply, Beautifully

DARKNESS HAS FALLEN, AND SHE ALONE WILL SEE THE LIGHT.

With her mother’s life hanging in the balance, Scarlett is devastated – and done with being in the dark. She wants answers, all of them.

But when was her pursuit of the truth ever straightforward?

Pulling a single thread impels a great unravelling. And each revelation will force Scarlett to rethink what she thought she knew about the Ceruleans, the Fallen, her family – herself.

All that came before was a mere prelude to this, the last journey. From London to Twycombe to Hollythwaite to Cerulea, Scarlett will be stalked by the ghosts of what has been, what may have been and what may come to pass. Until she reaches the place where it all began, and it all must end.

But in the final reckoning, none will survive unscathed. And some will not survive at all.

In this explosive conclusion to The Ceruleans series, all must be defined by their actions: sinner, saint… or something more beautiful entirely?

Megan Tayte

Megan Tayte bio

Once upon a time a little girl told her grandmother that when she grew up she wanted to be a writer. Or a lollipop lady. Or a fairy princess fireman. ‘Write, Megan,’ her grandmother advised. So that’s what she did.

Thirty-odd years later, Megan is a professional writer and published author by day, and an indie novelist by night. Her fiction – young adult romance with soul – recently earned her the SPR’s Independent Woman Author of the Year award.

Megan grew up in the Royal County, a hop, skip and a (very long) jump from Windsor Castle, but these days she makes her home in the village of Standish, Greater Manchester. She lives with her husband, a proud Scot who occasionally kicks back in a kilt; her son, a budding artist with the soul of a palaeontologist; and her baby daughter, a keen pan-and-spoon drummer who sings in her sleep. When she’s not writing, you’ll find her walking someplace green, reading by the fire, or creating carnage in the kitchen as she pursues her impossible dream: of baking something edible.

Want to be on the Cover of a Romance Novel? Enter to Win Today! @shailstock #MFRWAuthor #Contest

How many romance novels have you read? For me, it’s been thousands. Before I began writing, I was a 20-book a month reader. Now, I spend time writing, reading and promoting my romance novels.  I’ve written over thirty-five novels and novellas and have a wealth of ideas for books still to write.

There are several questions always asked of writers. One of the most common has to do with the cover of the book. Who’s the model? Did you (me, the author) choose the model? And the one question I love; Did you pose for the cover? (Answer: no.)

However, this last question sparked an interest for me and I came up with a promotional idea that would make that dream a reality for one lucky winner.

At this moment, I’m promoting a contest that will garner the winner a place on the cover of one of my romance novels. They’ll also get an expense paid trip, a make-up session, photo shoot, and more. The contest runs from now through April 30, 2016.

Have you ever wondered about the models on the cover of romance novels?  Are they professionals or regular people?  You could be one.  I’m running a contest to choose a person to appear on the cover of one of my novels.  You can find all the details at http://www.yourfaceonaromancenovel.com?link_list=2079324 where you can read the official rules and find the entry form.

If you want to be on the cover, know someone who does, have a daughter, son, child, grandchild, niece, nephew, son, or other friend or relative interested in the contest, keep reading…

Before you go to the link, here are some of the perks.  The contest is open to anyone (male/female) 18 years or older, regarding of size, age, color or ethnicity, from the forty-eight contiguous states of the United States of America.  We’ll fly you to the Princeton, NJ area.

Title: Having the Genius’s Baby

Author: Shirley Hailstock

Genre: Romance

Book Blurb:

Dr. Elizabeth Stone’s biological clock is ticking and she wants to have a baby.  Not just any baby, a genius child.  The product of genius parents herself, her child will mark a third generation.  After researching genius men, she approaches Hunter Thorpe with an indecent proposal.  They should have a child together.  She knows he’s not interested in children, so afterward he’s out of the picture and the child is totally hers.  She has a contract ready for him to sign forfeiting any parental rights.

As drunken college sophomores, Hunter made a pack with four of his buddies that they would all be married or have been married by the end of their ten-year reunion.  If not, they’d have to donate half of their current net worth to the other three.  As the hero had a serious girlfriend at the time, and he was drunk, the agreement meant nothing to him.  Now as he appropriates the end of his 31st year and the reunion is looming, he gets a letter reminding him of the stakes.  With a net worth in the billions, Hunter needs a wife to keep his empire and to complete a very lucrative deal.

Will her plan work?  Will his?  Or will Hunter and Elizabeth discover there a relationship is more than the sum of its parts?

Excerpt:

Elizabeth Stone’s heart hammered as if she’d run a marathon.  Perched on the edge of the chair, she closed her eyes and exhaled a long breath.  With her hand on her chest, she tried to quiet the insistent pounding.  She wanted to run, escape into the anonymity of the hall and down the elevator to the freedom of the crowded New York street.  Instead she sat in the reception area outside Hunter Thorpe’s office.  She’d already spoken to his secretary and been announced.

Thorpe knew she was here.

The point of no return was behind her.  It had happened the moment she dropped the letter in the post box a full week ago.

She had to go through with it now.  She crossed her legs but one foot began to bounce, so she planted them flat on the sage colored carpet.  Elizabeth hadn’t been this nervous since she stood before the thesis committee defending her doctoral dissertation.

Sitting still and waiting was not her forte.  Elizabeth was more comfortable in her lab, working out biochemical combinations, than waiting to talk to a man she had never met, yet with whom she would become intimately connected.  Her fingers drummed on the chair arm.  Maybe she should have asked for this interview at another place.  Her first consideration was to see Hunter Thorpe at his home, but the place was a fortress.  Then she figured his home would give him too much of a social advantage.  Restaurants or bars were too noisy and she was apt to be overheard.  What she wanted to discuss with him required privacy.  Mentally shaking herself, Elizabeth gathered her courage.  After all, she had a business deal to present.  It should be conducted in a business office.

With confidence.

And courage.

She silently scolded herself for lacking both areas.

Standing up she walked to the huge set of windows overlooking the city.  Thorpe’s office was on the fortieth floor.  It was the top one and forty stories was short by New York skyscraper standards, but he owned the entire structure.  Rent alone would put him in the billion dollar club.

Elizabeth squeezed and released her hands.  What was taking so long, she wondered?  She had a mind to leave.  She could go to the desk and tell the secretary she remembered another appointment and that she’d reschedule.  Or she could offer no explanation – cancel and leave with an attitude of annoyance for being kept waiting.  She checked her watch.  It was only three minutes past their appointed time.  Changing her mind, she decided she couldn’t retreat after coming this far, after going through all the planning and research and decision making.

Hunter Thorpe was the one.

Returning to her seat, Elizabeth focused on the man.  A month ago she’d sat on the floor of her living room, looking at photos.  She hadn’t wanted to be influenced by physical appearance, so all her prior evaluations had been clinical, done without visuals.  Priorities and eliminations made on scientific details.  Finally she’d come to the point where she needed to see the candidates.  Thorpe’s was the fourth 8 x 10 glossy she’d laid out on the white rug in front of her.  She looked at the face of the man staring up from the photo.  “Oooo,” she breathed, her reaction coming of its own accord.  He had good bone structure, a strong chin, a direct stare.  But more than that, he was delicious.  His eyes bore into hers.  What was his name?

Turning to the notes on the back, she read – Hunter Thorpe.  “Wow, even his name is sexy, strong sounding.  And look at those shoulders,” she said aloud wiggling her own shoulders and thinking of being enclosed in his arms.  Just what she needed.

In the photo, he wore a business suit, dark gray with pin striping.  It had to be made for him.  No one could get those exact body specifications off the rack.  And the  specifics were all in the right places.  Gorgeous and highly intelligent, she thought reading his I.Q. of 170.  Other than the building, he owned his own business, a global energy company whose technics and products were becoming the market leader.  Elizabeth put him in the review pile, and after several days of prioritization, the list was sorted and Hunter Thorpe remained at the head of the class.

Elizabeth glanced at the door to his office.  It was intricately carved, made of polished wood and contained a gold plate with only name on it.  No title.  No word “private” printed in bold and italics under his name.  Only the block letters announcing to the world that this was his private sanctuary.  Of course, everyone knew who he was.  A title would be superfluous.  And apparently he was confident enough not to need one.

She wondered if his personality would live up to the reports she’d read on him.  Written reports couldn’t take the place of actual physical observation, but it appeared that Thorpe was a man who knew his mind and often got what he wanted.  He was a leader and a genius.  According to her requirements, he had everything she was looking for.  All she needed to do was convince him to fall in line with her plan.

And that was about to happen.
