Joelle, My True Love

My thoughts are of you

Of how your caresses

Light a fire in my soul.

Of how your pretty smile

Brightens my whole day

How simply being near you

Takes the dark clouds away.

I love you with all my heart

My mind, body and soul

You will be my beloved wife

This truly will be my joy.

© 2016 Poetry of Love: The Engagement Year by N. N. Light, All rights reserved

Happy Valentine’s Day! It’s time to talk about romantic love and I dedicate this day and inspirational thought to the man who taught me the real meaning of love, Mr. N.

From the time I was three, I dreamt of my Prince Charming, the handsome man who would love me and make all my dreams come true. I know it sounds like the total cliche but that is exactly what Mr. N did.

The fairy tale didn’t go exactly like it is portrayed by Disney. In fact, I broke Mr. N’s heart twice. Yup, I broke up with him twice, crushing him deeply. It wasn’t until I looked deep into his eyes (for the third time) and saw the unconditional love there that I realized Mr. N’s real name is Prince Charming.

The above poem Mr. N wrote to me on Valentine’s Day when we were engaged. He had to work a double-shift at the restaurant (18 hours) and it tore us both apart that we had to be away from each other on Valentine’s Day. Such is the life of a chef and his beloved but we made the best of it and when he got home, he shared his poem with me. ❤

Nowadays, we don’t celebrate our engagement anniversary on Valentine’s Day but on the weekend following. We call it Love Weekend and it’s a three-day weekend chockful of delicious food, cocktails and romantic movies. We look forward to it every year and it’s one of the ways we keep our marriage burning hot. 😉

This Valentine’s Day, if you’re in a relationship, be sure to take a moment to tell your beloved how much you love them. You don’t have to go out to a fancy restaurant or spend a lot of money on gifts and flowers to show you care. Spending time with your beloved and showering them with your kindness and love is the best gift you can give.

A note to singles: Listen, I know this is a hard day for you. Everyone around you is gushing about romantic love. Take today and shower yourself with love. Don’t throw a pity party but cherish yourself and indulge in something decadent. You’re beautiful and I love you!

Spread Love and Light!

A week ago, we were featured on Indie Publishing Group and they sat us down for an in-depth interview. We loved it and wanted to share it with you on Valentine’s Day. Don’t forget to scroll down to the bottom to see our latest release at a great price!

This Week’s Feature Author Interview with N. N. Light

Hi N. N. Light, welcome to the Indie Publishing Group website. Introduce yourself to us. Tell everyone who you are, where you’re from, what do you enjoy doing, hobbies and interests.

N. N. Light is the bestselling husband-wife writing team, commonly known as Mr. N and Mrs. N. Mrs. N. has been creating stories ever since she was little. Her grandfather remembers when she was two years old, she would stand at the top of the stairs and tell him a story filled with emotion (and in a language foreign to him) with her hands on her hips. Let’s just say she was a born storyteller.

We’re blissfully happy and love all things chocolate, books, music, movies, art, sports, trains, history, cooking and baking. Our mantra is to spread the Light and we talk about what that means every day on our blog.

Most of the time you can find us on Twitter (our favorite social media platform) or getting new ideas on how to spread the Light on Pinterest. We’re a proud member of ASMSG and Independent Author Network.

In addition to being authors, we’re also book promoters/reviewers, social media marketers/influencers and the owners of N. N. Light Author Promotions. We both love books, have ever since we were young. Matching up books and readers is something that gives us great pleasure.

When did you start writing and why?

Mrs. N: I’ve been writing and telling stories ever since I was little. Writing was my best friend and my confidante growing up. I poured my heart and soul into my writing and those who I let read my stories wanted more. After I graduated from college, the real world intruded and I entered the publishing world as a bookseller and bookstore manager. Writing took a backseat and it wasn’t until after I married Mr. N that I started writing my stories. He encouraged me to quit my job and write full-time. Together, we became N. N. Light.

Mr. N: It’s true, what my beloved says. After several years working as a chef in the restaurant industry, I was burned out and needed a change. A new career and higher pay meant she could concentrate on what she’s wanted most: to write and publish her stories. We work so well together that writing as a team is second nature and through the process, I discovered I had the talent for writing, too.

Which is your favorite book you have written and what gave you the idea for it?

Princess of the Light. It’s our debut novel and it’s the one closest to our hearts. Here’s the story behind it as told by Mrs. N:

Four years ago, I was out for my morning walk and I saw a homeless man sitting in front of a gas station.  I looked at him, head uplifted to the sun, and wondered what his story was.  I hadn’t seen him before and knew instantly he was different from other homeless people.  He didn’t ask for money or holdup a sign.  He walked the length of our town and avoided contact.

A voice entered my head, “What if you could help him?  Would you?  What if you were chosen to help him and others like him?”

I stopped walking and searched my heart.  After a moment, I replied aloud, “Yes, I would.”

The voice echoed in my heart, “This is what you were called to do.”

I went home that day and started writing Princess of the Light.  Every day I would see the Walking Man and as Mary would help her Walking Man, I would help mine.  I started small by smiling at him and saying “good morning”.  The simple acknowledgement didn’t seem like a big deal to me but every time I did it, his face lit up and he nodded back to me.

I soon got my husband involved and we started leaving food, clothing and blankets for him. I promised myself that when my book got published, part of the proceeds would go to helping people like the Walking Man find food, clothing and shelter.

Our book is available at Amazon and we’re keeping our promise. Part of the proceeds of Princess of the Light goes directly to food banks in order to feed the hungry and help those in need. With only 7,500 books sold, we will be able to set up a monthly endowment for the local food bank.

We’re currently writing the sequel to Princess of the Light and will fingers crossed be available in late 2017/early 2018.

How did you come up with the title for your book?

The title was pretty easy as that is what Mary is (Princess of the Light) and she’s been chosen to fight Lucifer’s army of demons and restore Light to all.

Who helped you with the cover? Or did your design it yourself? What was your inspiration for your cover design?

Our cover artist is French (Erica Petit) and she really nailed it. We wanted a powerful cover to convey the strength and badassery of Mary.

What are some of the themes of your story?

There are several themes going on in this paranormal inspirational romance.

First, there’s the calling of Mary. She’s leading a double-life and it’s imperative she balance her normal life with her Princess life. Sometimes they overlap and she must deal with whatever happens.

Second theme is the romance between Mary and Joe. While it seems like a chance meeting, it’s part of a bigger plan. Mary and Joe must overcome quite a bit and all while battling dark forces and an ex-fiancée.

Third theme is the transformation of a homeless man called The Walking Man. He’s the lost soul, tortured beyond recognition by Than (Lucifer’s second in command). When Mary and Joe decide to show kindness to The Walking Man, realization hits too close to home for Joe. Forgiveness, redemption, spiritual warfare all play their part in this story. We wanted to show readers that simple acts of kindness and understanding to those less fortunate can have a huge impact.

Have you got anything you’re working on now?

We’re working on a few projects. We’re writing the sequel to Princess of the Light. We’re writing an alternative history book (Mr. N is the pointman on this project as it’s his creation) as well as a new adult romance. We’re also putting together the sequel to our love poetry collection as well as an inspirational thought book.

If you could have any super powers what would they be?

Time travel. Both of us lost our dads when we were young and we’d give just about anything to go back in time and relive time with our dads.

Our love exists in so many ways

Even when parted I feel you

I long for your gaze

Knowing our love is true.

Get to know Author Tia Shurina and her #Memoir, @everythingAAHE #RRBC #AuthorInterview

We all want a happy ending in life, like Cinderella and Prince Charming, but sometimes Cinderella has to go through pain/suffering and discover her own path to a happy ending. Tia Shurina, author of Everything and a Happy Ending, agreed to sit down with me for an interview. Her book talks about the three men in her life, her journey to self-discovery and working on her own happy ending. She’s an amazing woman and it’s my pleasure to introduce her. Take it away, Tia:

If you could cast your characters in the Hollywood adaptation of your book, who would play your characters?

I am a very sentimental woman, & because of that:

I’d cast Brooke Shields as me since she holds very significant meaning to my story.

I would cast Ray Romano as my dad.  The physical resemblance is stunning, &, as the 3rd man in the trio, I feel would add an incredible full circle beauty & intimacy to it.

I would cast Tony Danza as Larry, my ex-husband.

And as Ray I would cast George Clooney, again, because, like Brooke Shields, he has a  special significance in the book.

What do you consider to be your best accomplishment?

My best accomplishment is my 3rd baby, Everything and a Happy Ending.  It accomplished the 2 most important things in my life…

feeling I came full circle as a mom to my 2 boys as I gave birth to my memoir.  As my boys grew, & my dissatisfaction in my life grew, I hid a sad sorrowful feeling of disappointment that I was short-changing my children by letting my fears push me to settle in my life.  My dad’s death was the catalyst & catapult to a transformation & metamorphosis long in the making.  As they watched their mom face her fears & follow her heart for the 1st time in her life, I became the example I wanted to be for them.  In that experience & thru that process, I am now ecstatic & feeling so proud they are well on their way to happy “everythings” in their lives…relationships, careers, experiences, at least with the things that are within the realm of their own control, of course.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years, I see myself having climbed completely out of the financial hole that I dug myself into as part of the extraordinary gift of “everything” that I freely, & faithfully gave to another.  I see myself blessedly, blissfully happy in a loving, intimate, exciting & beautifully balanced romantic relationship with a man I am madly, crazily, fantastically in love with.  I was blessed with an answered prayer when I was given the opportunity to make some new choices for myself at this later age in my life.  I will not let that gift be in vain or go unwrapped or unlived.

Do you read your reviews? Do you respond to them, good or bad? Do you have any advice on how to deal with the bad?

I have read each & every review that I’m aware of, so far.  Who I am, tho, struggles to NOT let the 1 negative comment out of 100 positive ones eat me alive so, can be draining.  In my life, I’m getting better at not engaging, or co-creating with other’s harsh criticisms, so, I keep the faith I will move to that place with the book as well.

In my heart, Ricky Nelson’s song, Garden Party, is my theme song (you can’t please everyone so you gotta please yourself)…but my head sings a different song many days!  I won’t plan on responding to the negative.  Constructive criticism is one thing…an important valid tool and as an inexperienced nonprofessional writer I accept they will be a part of the process, but I will do my best to let negative mean-ness “walk on by” (that’s Dionne Warwick…& yes, I love music & find it to be a very powerful inspirational tool!).

What is your least favorite part of the publishing / writing process?

My least favorite part of the process has been the marketing & publicity aspect.  The book was a Plan C for sure (maybe even Plan D).  I had no desire or plan to share my own personal story so publicly.  I went kicking & screaming a bit to go with that flow I was so desperate to swim with finally in my life, instead of bucking that flow.  But, I’m so outside my comfort zone in soooo many areas of my life right now as a result.  It has brought a happiness & peace of heart I have never felt, yet, I am also exhausted from the journey I chose to take to 7 years ago at this point and because am so beyond my limits, “running  on empty” at this point, & beyond in some important places, this particular part has hit me very hard. It is very draining but I’ve accepted the possibility that maybe was something important I do & face & embrace in my life.

Characters often find themselves in situations they aren’t sure they can get themselves out of. When was the last time you found yourself in a situation that was hard to get out of and what did you do?

The situation I find myself in right now.  My ex & I have a very Modern Family kind of living arrangement.  He moved out for quite awhile after we split & then became my roommate after his dad passed away…a gift to my ex, wanting to be kind & help him out, even as I was trying to honor myself 1st & foremost, finally, in my life.  That choice was also a gift to Ray, which is all detailed in the book as to the why’s.   At the time, I trusted was going to be for a short amount of time & felt certain was a positive healing choice & opportunity for my ex & I & our 2 boys actually, after they witnessed a bit of tumult between us in the time before we finally split.  But, it passed its circle of healing at a certain point & became quite unhealthy, & I’ve been struggling mightily as a result as my circumstances have changed through the years.

I’m currently in full swing of trying to get myself out at this point, on my own…the book is part of my attempt to gain back some of the financial security I gifted to another, part of my offering of trust.

What is your biggest fear?

Well, to piggyback off the last question, I will share that on a difficult, dark day, I will allow the fears to have their moment & take me to my knees in fear & worry that even a tiny remote chance exists that I will be unable to get myself onto a firm steady financial foothold to be able to take care of myself & start the new life I so desperately wanted for myself when I made the decision to end my marriage is definitely topping the list these days.  After I allow myself to be human, however, I am well aware of the importance to get up from my knees & walk away from those fears so that energy does not get to stick around me.  It is so unhealthy to wallow in it but I am also aware of the importance of allowing feelings & acknowledging emotions as well, after a long time in my life of kinda stuffing them away.  It’s a balance, for sure.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

I’d like to be able to become invisible.  A lot of mystery & some angst too, would no longer exist in my life if I were able to do that.

Where is one place you want to visit that you haven’t been before?

Giraffe Hotel in Nairobi Kenya

What’s on your bucket list (things to do before you die)?

Besides above, which gets me to Africa, I’d like to visit Alaska & Hawaii, which were places my dad wanted to get to, drive cross country & see the Grand Canyon, a visit to a few other of the Wonders of the World (either classic, new or natural), a Mediterranean cruise, learn to speak a little French (which I find to be a very sexy language), learn to play the drums & piano, mentor…& since I have 2 sons, I’d like to mentor a girl, & lastly, have a book I wrote made into a screenplay!

EAAHE Cover (2)

Title:  Everything and a Happy Ending

Author: Tia Shurina

Genre:  Memoir

Book Blurb:

EAAHE is a memoir that recounts 3 interconnected relationships & love stories, her dad, her ex-husband & an old special friend.  The book details and shares Tia’s full circle journey to learn how to really trust, how to “thine own self be true” and then the real & true love it circled her ‘round back to.  It’s a story about how the power of love & a journey to intimacy helped flip learned pessimism, reacting in reflex and running from fear into choosing optimism, trusting intuition and rising above the fear.

Chapter 8

EMILIO

Grow with the Flow

(of the Current of Your Life)

Come together… at just the right and perfect time

Such wonderful advice, to go (and grow) with the flow. I heard it from my dad, as he encouraged me to swim more with the current of my life, rather than against it, as I’d done for a long, unsatisfying time. It is a great title for a book chapter or TV episode, yet it can be difficult to true-ly live in real life, I think.

There’s an Oscar winning movie, Marty, from 1955. It’s a fictional story of two average people who meet a bit later in life, fall in love, and get a happy ending. Marty, a plain man, meets Clara, an ordinary woman. Both are lonely, and both feel even less than plain and ordinary. It is a beautiful love story about meeting, connecting, trusting, redemption, and second chances arriving later in life. It is extraordinary and ordinary, both at the same time. It is almost unbelievable, yet totally attainable. It is a once in a lifetime story and an everyday possibility—the perfect balance.

Now, imagine the story is not fiction, but real. Imagine there real-ly exists a Marty and Clara, who meet when fate crosses their paths, but not as middle-aged, world weary, lonely adults, but as much younger, scared, lonely adults. Imagine also that this particular Marty and Clara are not plain or ordinary at all on the outside, yet on the inside feel the very same way Marty and Clara felt. It is a difficult challenge for even the older, wiser adult to go with the flow, but for the younger, intimidated, un-wise young adult to ponder the paths that could be taken, instead of the choice to trust, to let it all go, to jump in and let the current flow you to where you are meant to be is much harder. Imagine that this very real and very scared Marty and Clara pair go their separate ways, rather than go all in and take the risk first time around.

But if life is a journey of human choices and divine plans and assistance in mind and soul from the start, consider the possibility that, if their destiny is to come together, they will make their way back around the circle to reunite. Given another chance to simply be together, when the time was right and perfect for them, they’d reconnect like yin connects with yang.

What if the universe has always been watching their backs, moving them along divinely, in just the right and perfect way, to help them get a second chance someday? As Sophie says in Letters to Juliet, “‘What’ and ‘if ’ are two words as non-threatening as words can be. But put them together side-by-side and they have the power to haunt you for the rest of your life: What if? What if? What if?” What if, like in reel life, the real life Marty makes a promise to the real life Clara, to come back to her so that they can have that love affair, finally, to go with the flow, and meet up with her soon? What if the real life Clara devotedly waits as the reel life Clara does—sitting, motionless, on the sofa, just waiting for her Marty to reach out, not moving or budging until he did, because she grew scared that if she did, it meant she didn’t trust him, petrified it meant she didn’t have faith in him? What if?

What if, in a very real life, a very real Marty and Clara can face their fears this time around their circle, and find the courage to actually go with that flow? Maybe, just maybe, they can have that love affair that often exists true-ly in fairytales, but once in a while moves into reality as well, jumping off the pages of a book, leaping out of the TV or off the reel life movie screen—a real and a very true love.

Will Tia Shurina give Ray Romano a “Happy Ending”? New Memoir Reveals Relationship and Unveils Transformation

Tia and Ray

Feb 01, 2016, 12:11 ET from Everything and a Happy Ending

NEW YORK, Feb. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Sometimes a person’s outside public persona isn’t reflective of their inside private life. Everything and a Happy Ending shares her struggle with authenticity between her outer and inner worlds; her real and true lives. It also details how an old friendship turned to secreted emotional love affair and how she helped him flip a not so funny reality into a fantastical new reel life self.

As Tia transitioned through her own real life roles she became the muse for one of Hollywood’s most beloved stars.

Her book illuminates her awakening and metamorphosis, committed to embracing the high road of nourishment, while exuding courage and kindness. Her memoir shares her journey to give and receive love without domination, submission, or sublimation. She takes the reader through sorrow and tribulation leading to growth, clarity, peace, release and joy recounting three interwoven circles & love stories. EAAHE chronicles how her childhood relationship with her father set the foundation for her long marriage to her ex-husband; then shares how their adult relationship “set the stage” for a unique love story with the comedian. She details how her faith is strengthened as her own re-birth inspired her old friend to grow and evolve himself. She’s been his shadow muse since a poignant, powerful reconnection became the catalyst for her privately shared personal evolution which became the root and core of Romano’s own journey of “soulwork”. That inspiration allowed him to achieve some of the greatest successes of his career.

Shurina states, “My dad’s advice to his children was, ‘hold your form’. Those bestowed bellwether words were integral to embracing my faith, finding joy within (and without!), allowing ‘true’ love, giving in peace and empowering others to rise to their own best form.”

Her story is a tour de force of emergence into empowerment & the recognition of the interconnected heart, balancing the spiritual and the material, and her selfless, unconditional giving to help liberate another from a life born of a need for adulation and acceptance.

“It’s my prayer another woman of a certain age feeling dissatisfied in her life might take a babystep forward.”

EAAHE combines real and true aspects of Eat Pray Love crossing paths with 50 Shades, Marty, Parenthood and Someday Someday Maybe meeting When the Balls Drop.

Tia Shurina lives in Queens, NYC but still spends time on the Jersey Shore, where she feels safest in the bungalows she spent her childhood summers.  She is, most days, really filled with joy.  She is, every day, truly filled with peace.   She looks forward to a happy ending each new day, however it unfolds, whomever it holds, & however the Universe molds, as she continues to create a new “happily ever after”, staying committed to rising above her fears, moving out of her comfort zones and going with the flow of her life.

Valentine’s Edition of Friday Book Round-Up: Romantic Couples #Romance #Love #Books

Love Train

Welcome to this week’s edition of Friday Book Round-Up! I am a romantic and I love to read love stories.  I have read so many wonderful love stories and I thought I would give you a top ten.  So without further ado, here they are (in no particular order).

1-            Mr. Darcy/Elizabeth Bennett– Pride and Prejudice is one of favorite books.  I love how their romance first starts off as disdain and then blossoms to romance. Best part is the Kindle book is free!

2-            Gilbert Blythe/Anne Shirley– Anne of Avonlea is book two in the fabulous Anne of Green Gables series.  I love how Gilbert loves Anne and how in the beginning, she doesn’t reciprocate.  But time passes and soon Anne realizes what is right in front of her.

3-            George Knightley/Emma Woodhouse– Another Jane Austen gem that shows what happens when you play matchmaker to everyone but yourself.  I love Emma because she has the best intentions for her friend, Harriet, even at the expense of her own happiness.  George Knightley, on the other hand, is in love with Emma but doesn’t know how to express his feelings.  Their romance makes my heart beat fast and I swoon. Also free on Kindle.

4-            Nicholas Stafford/Dougless Montgomery– A Knight in Shining Armor is a time-travel romance that truly speaks to those who believe in destiny and soul mates.  I love this book because it is both modern-day and historical.  Every woman secretly wants a knight in shining armor to rescue them and that is exactly what happens here.  I re-read this book and smile as I realize I have my own knight in shining armor aka MR N.

5-            Heathcliff/Catherine– Emily Bronte brings to life what it means to love another so much that not even death can separate you.  I first read this when I was fifteen and I have loved romances with tragic endings ever since.  There is something so alluring about Heathcliff and I have wanted someone to love me like that.  I have that with MR N without the whole death thing. Free on Amazon!

6-            Noah Calhoun/Allie Nelson– The Notebook is one of those love stories that stay with you.  Many people love the movie but for me, the book is much better.  The love shared between Noah and Allie is so strong that it surpasses anything else.  It always makes me cry but in a good way.

7-            Luke Brandon/Rebecca Bloomwood– Confessions of a Shopaholic is one of those fabulous contemporary romance books that can’t be put down. I love how fate keeps intervening and without even knowing it, Rebecca is head over heels in love.  Luke is a mystery to even the reader in the beginning but I love how he cares for her.

8-            Riley Parrish/Tanzy Harrington– Opposites attract and in this contemporary romance, we discover that Riley is not who he first appears to be.  He is not a sheep but a full-blown wolf in The Big Bad Wolf Tells All.  Tanzy is like me, doing her own thing and loving every minute of it.  Love blows her over and before she can recover, someone tries to kill her.

9-            Peter Pan and Wendy Darling– Yes I know this is a children’s book but it was the first love story I read growing up.  Imagine meeting a boy who makes all your dreams come true and takes you on great adventures. What could be better? Get it free on Amazon!

10-          Romeo and Juliet– This is one of the most recognized romantic couple on the planet but I still have a soft spot for them.  True love, no matter the consequences, will always make me swoon.  Sure, they both die in the end but William Shakespeare writes the most romantic words on record. Nothing can compare. 71 cents on Amazon!

Writing Love Stories: Seducing Your Readers #amwriting #ASMSG #MFRWAuthor

Writing Romance

I love a good seduction in the morning. Of course, I love a good seduction in the afternoon, evening and night too. 😉 There’s something so alluring about a love story that sweeps me off my feet and that’s what I love about romance books. It doesn’t matter who the characters are or what the setting is: I’m game.

Some of the best love stories are intertwined in a different genre than romance. Love stories transcend even the most cold heart and make us believe in the power of love.

I love this quote by Anne Boleyn because I truly believe that readers (who love books) crave to be seduced. They want to be taken away on the giant white horse and be taken on a great adventure. They want to immerse themselves into the main characters as they fall in love for the first time, get their heart broken, take a chance on love, flee from love and finally let love in. Here are my top ten love stories of all time:

Top Ten Love Stories According to MRS N

  1. Aragorn and Arwen from The Lord of the Rings
  2. Romeo and Juliet from Romeo and Juliet
  3. Peter Pan and Wendy from Peter Pan
  4. Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice
  5. Mary Miller and Joe Deacons from Princess of the Light (sorry couldn’t resist) 🙂
  6. Dracula and Mina Harker from Dracula
  7. Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler from Gone With the Wind
  8. Mickey and Minnie Mouse from Disney 🙂
  9. Anne Sullivan and Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables series
  10. Adam and Eve from The Bible

Each love story is unique and they tug at my heart strings. Some of them have a happy ending and some of them do not. The author of each love story draws me in with real characters, a plot that intrigues me and soon I am seduced by the words.

Every author wants their readers begging for more and that is the best aphrodisiac in the world!

What’s your favorite love story? Was it in a romance novel or in another genre? If another genre, did it surprise you? I want to hear your thoughts so please comment below.
