What’s the Greatest Lesson You’ve Learned in Life? #inspiration #motivation #MondayBlogs

david-bowie-love

What’s the greatest life lesson you’ve learned?

From the time I was little, I tried to love everything and everyone. My parents said I was a bundle of love and I wanted to shower the world with love. Sometimes my love was returned and at other times, I was rejected. I was called weird, odd and adorable.

Was a I deterred as I grew older? Probably but when I started this blog back in 2013, my inner child came out. I love each and every one of my blog followers (yes, even you!) and I try to promote love instead of hate.

See, love is the greatest life lesson I’ve learned and I want to share my experiences with others. I want people to know what it’s like to be loved unconditionally. I want people to know that they’re not alone. There’s no need to be afraid or lonely; love is with you, no matter what happens.

Take Bowie’s advice (and mine too) and love. Don’t let hate win. Love everything and everyone. Let your love blow people over and be the epitome of unconditional love.

Go Out Into the World Today and Spread Love! #inspiration #motivation #MondayBlogs

Light Mother Teresa

Love one another.

This simple statement is burning in my heart as I read the horrific account of the terrorist shooting in Vegas last night. More than 50 dead and more than one-hundred injured. A white American planned and executed fellow Americans who were listening to music at a festival.

Where’s the love for our fellow men and women?

There’s many people who say that if we had bigger and badder weapons, those people could’ve defended themselves. But it’s that attitude of violence begets more violence that is exact opposite of how we need to respond. Instead of violence, let’s love each other, seeking understanding through talking not guns.

Go out into the world today and love the people you encounter. Smile, spread the Light that’s inside you and let kindness guide you. Mother Teresa had it right with her quote above. When you love one another, hatred and fear wave the white flag in defeat.

I love you all and hope you have a safe Monday!

Anxiety is Love’s Greatest Killer so Stop Panicking #inspiration #motivation #ThursdayThoughts

anxiety anais nin

Did you know that anxiety kills?

Look at any medical journal and you’ll see evidence of how anxiety strips our bodies of health and well-being. Both physically and mentally, anxiety causes us to worry and fret. Love and tranquility can’t penetrate and we’re left with a less than healthy lifestyle.

Last night, I broke down and let anxiety over cigarette smoke leaking into our apartment get the best of me. I started wringing my hands and getting so upset. It didn’t help matters and only caused me to have chest pains. MR N took my hands in his and encouraged me to relax. I took his advice and let is all go. We had the tools to deal with the smoke and it was useless to get so upset.

Like the quote above states, anxiety is love’s greatest killer. It saps the life out of us and the more we worry, the worse off we are. Even our friends and family back away in fear of getting sucked into the anxiety vortex.

So how do we stop anxiety from taking over?

Breathe, meditate/pray, relax.

Stuff happens to us and we have to deal with it. Know what you can control and let the rest of it handle itself. Do it for your health, for yourself and for your loved ones.

Don’t let anxiety win!

Family: A Prime Example of #Kindness and #Love! #inspiration #ThursdayThoughts

family big ben

From the earliest age, we’re influenced by our family. Sometimes it’s a positive example and sometimes it’s a negative example. We’re taught how to act around others and what’s important in life.

For me, I learned how to respond to others and what mattered most through observing my family. Money, appearances, love, upholding the family name were all important to my family. It wasn’t I got to know other families did I learn that there was more to life than that.

I love this quote by Big Ben because it speaks of kindness and thoughtfulness. Unconditional love comes to mind and that is a trait I share with my chosen family (a group of friends and family I’ve adopted as my own family).

Like Ben, I try to live my life like my father. He loved me with his whole heart and even though we were torn apart by circumstances beyond our control, our love only grew stronger. He taught me the importance of not judging others and loving your enemies.

So, whether you’re a parent, child or friend, be the example of what it means to be a kind, loving family member. Love your family (whether it’s your birth or chosen family) unconditionally and never judge.

Promote What You Love Instead of Bashing What You Hate! #MondayBlogs #EndofHate #LoveisLove

Promote love

Those of us who live in North America were witness to a weekend of hatred and I, for one, am sick of hate permeating the world like a fatal disease. Did we learn nothing from the past (American Civil War, World War II, Civil Rights Movement)?

There are people in this world who are promoting Nazi propaganda under a new name but the truth is that it is still an attempt to eradicate races. The leaders of white supremacy use fear as their weapon of choice and if you don’t agree with them, they’ll use violence to convince you.

It’s time to make a stand, people. I’m here on this blog platform saying it’s time to promote love and understanding. No one is better than another person. We’re all here on this Earth together and we’re equal. We have the right to exist, thrive and carve out a life, regardless of race, creed or sex. Like flowers, there’s millions of different varieties of human beings in this world and we need to cherish them all.

END THE HATE!

I will no longer be silent. I follow the Golden Rule (Treat others how you’d like to be treated) and so should everyone else.

Promote what you love instead of bashing what you hate.

No Matter What’s Happening in Your Life, You’re Flawless! #inspiration #love #motivation

Flawless MR N

Do you know that you’re flawless?

Yesterday, MR N was dealing with some stressful customer service issues. Talking with a co-worker he blurted out, “He wants flawless? Nothing in this world is flawless except for my beloved wife.”

Aww!

Yes, I have the best husband in the world. Yes, he’s loving and we’re an adorable couple. But that’s not what today’s inspirational thought is about.

For as long as I can remember, I have been my own worst critic. I beat myself up over the littlest thing and I can’t seem to break this vicious cycle. That is, until yesterday. When MR N told me what he said, it resonated deep within. I’m flawless.

I decided to do a little test for the rest of the day. Whenever a negative thought popped into my head, I’d counter it by whispering, “I’m flawless”. Not in a cocky way but in an honest way.

It worked. My self esteem lifted and my positive spirit returned.

Each of us are flawless. We’re a beautiful, rare jewel and we shouldn’t listen to others who say otherwise.

Take a moment, look in the mirror and repeat after me: I’m flawless. Mr. N and Mrs. N thinks I’m flawless. It’s the truth.

Nothing in this world is flawless except for you.

A Father’s Love is Strong and True so Let Him Know You Care! #inspiration #FathersDay #love

Daddy and me

A Father’s Love

A little girl torn from her daddy,

A daddy blocked at every turn,

An unconditional love that burned bright.

I love you daddy, she whispered into the night air.

I love you too, my angel, he whispers back.

Neither can hear the other but both smile.

Their love transcends the distance.

A woman now, she feels her daddy’s love,

Wrapping around her, protecting her.

She cannot see his ghostly face,

But knows he is with her always.

Nothing can separate them now.

The truth has set them both free.

Free to love each other as was destined.

Free to be her daddy’s angel,

Free to be her daddy, now and forever.

I wrote this poem back in 2008 and in it I delve into the relationship I share with my father.

A father’s love is strong and true. He guides his children to live a purposeful life, full of hard work and integrity. He’s the example of what it means to be a man.

This weekend, please take a moment and give your father/dad a call, text, email, etc. Three words is all it takes: I love you. Don’t delay because you never know when you’ll wake up and he’ll be gone forever. Don’t live with the regret that I live with.

Here’s How You Can Change the World For the Better #inspiration #motivation #MondayBlogs

word to live by

Every morning, it seems, there’s violence and murder to accompany our breakfast. Terrorist attacks, death, people shot in the streets… it’s enough to make us want to give up. I mean, what can we do?

We can change our corner of the world by following the above quote.

By spreading love instead of hate, we’re combating the darkness with Light. By being kind, we’re unleashing a fantastic chain of events that will lead to positivity. By rounding up criminals, bad guys, etc., we’re showing that we’re not afraid anymore. There’s more good than bad in this world; it’s time we start talking about it.

Change your perspective and you’ll be on your way to changing the world!

Wedding Season is Almost Here and Love #Poetry is in Bloom! #poems #ASMSG #IARTG

POL wedding

The wedding season is almost upon us and love is in the air. The bride and groom (bride/bride or groom/groom) are tending to last minute details while the guests are scrambling to find the perfect gift. I love this time of the year not for the wedding event per se but for the celebration of lifelong love. The marriage vows, not the wedding, are what matters.

What do the vows have to do with it? The vows a couple makes in front of friends, family, complete strangers and the Universe bind their love, devotion and commitment. The vows are the expression of their love, in poetry form.

On our wedding day, MR N and I agreed to write out our own vows. We wanted to express to our guests that we were committed to each other and that our unconditional love would last. This is the vow MR N recited:

On my wedding day, I’m honored to be here

In front of friends, family and God, with my soul mate by my side.

I often thought I’d walk the long road of life alone.

I was ready to give up on love, then the miracle happened, you came back to me.

Joelle, you’re my beautiful angel.

I’m so lucky and blessed this day, I’m marrying the girl of my dreams.

My heart’s beating so fast, I’m so full of love for you.

You’re my best friend, my soul mate, my life partner, for now and eternity.

I just want to thank you for being mine.

And thank God for letting me have this, my perfect dream come true.

You, Joelle, as my wife.

I love you.

Heart-felt words straight from one groom’s soul to his beloved bride. I’m sure many brides are emotional at their wedding but hearing those words come from the man I love, yup, I totally cried. But that’s okay, for they were tears of overflowing love; I just couldn’t hold it in.

Poetry, especially love poetry, is nothing more than emotions on a page. Poems don’t have to follow certain rules or format, just honest. So, go ahead and write down a poem to the one you love.

A toast to all the wedding couples:

May your love bind you, protect you, strengthen you

All the days of your lives.

Be your beloved’s partner in everything you do.

Love them with respect and honor.

Never go to bed angry.

Talk out everything and be honest yet caring.

Use your words to uplift but never tear down.

Accept your lover’s quirks and see the beauty within.

Walk this life together, holding hands, and nothing can separate you.

“Plant Love, Grow Peace.” — @ArianaGrande #inspiration #TuesdayThoughts

love and peace AG

Last night, after Ariana Grande performed in Manchester, a suicide bomber detonated himself just outside. At last count, 22 children died, over 50 injured and several still missing.

This terrorist scumbag murdered children and stripped innocence from all of us who love music. I’m not a fan of Ariana Grande but I love music. Both MR N and I have gone to our fair share of concerts. It’s a great time, no matter what kind of music it is. In one act, fear and chaos erupted at a concert.

When I first heard about it, I was shocked. It tore me apart with first grief then righteous anger. Ariana Grande is not to blame and neither are the concert go-ers. The blame is solely on the loser who built and detonated the bomb.

So, while I’m still seething with anger and my heart goes out to all those who died and were injured, I am inspired by something Ariana Grande once said.

“Plant love. Grow peace.”

Every human life is precious, no matter what race, religion, creed, sex, etc. I have a love for every life. I may not agree with their beliefs or values but I respect their right to exist.

Imagine if everyone felt the same way as me. Hatred wouldn’t exist and neither would war.

In this world of chaos, be the Light. Spread kindness. Plant love. Watch your love’s roots grow deep and peace will surely blossom.

How’s Your Love Life? Learn to Love Imperfection … #TuesdayMotivation #love #inspiration

love-imperfection

How’s your love life?

Are you waiting for the perfect person to come along or are you loving an imperfect person perfectly?

This is the question I offer you to ponder today.

It took me a long time to realize that the key to love, real love, is in loving a person wholly and completely. When I was growing up, my family and society taught me I should wait for Mr. Right. He’d be my Prince Charming and he’d be perfect in every way. He’d be athletic, strong, caring, thoughtful, treat me like a princess… you get the point.

As I grew older, I realized the world was full of wannabe princes who, in turn, treated me like crap. They judged me based on a set of certain criteria in their own deluded minds and my heart got broken, a lot. I became jaded and my fairy tale ideal slipped from my grasp.

Then I met MR N. He displayed all the attributes of Prince Charming but because I was a wounded princess by this time, I didn’t believe it. I tugged and tugged at his appearance, to peel away the fake prince to discover the wickedness underneath. Only there wasn’t any bad count, only my long-awaited prince.

But my story doesn’t end there, like it does for many fairy tales. I still was a wounded princess, trying to figure out this whole unconditional love thing. I wasn’t used to it and it wasn’t until MR N made a vow to me, that I finally understood what love entailed.

“You have always been an angel,

I’ve known it from the start.

You’ve always been my princess,

You hold my soul and heart.

Darling, you are the princess,

The princess of the light.

I always knew that too,

My love for you is so right.”

©2017 N. N. Light, All rights reserved

Fourteen years later, MR N has kept his vow each and every day. He loves me, all of me, even the little things. Even though I’m imperfect, to him, I am perfect. The perfect wife, soulmate, life partner, business partner, best friend, lover and so much more.

Through his perfect, undying, unconditional love, I love him the same. Even though he’s human (like me), I don’t see it. I love him wholly and completely.

We come to love not by finding a perfect person, but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.

Learn to love imperfection and your outlook will change for the better.

MRS N

Note: I should mention that when I say imperfection, I don’t mean condoning abusive behaviour or anything illegal. If someone you love is abusive, violent and/or criminal, seek help. You can still love them, but from a safe distance.

Daddy and me

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain.

Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?

A smile from a veil?

Do you think you can tell?

Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?

Hot ashes for trees?

Hot air for a cool breeze?

Cold comfort for change?

Did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.

We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,

Running over the same old ground.

What have we found?

The same old fears.

Wish you were here.

Wish You Were Here – Pink Floyd

Nineteen years ago today, my dad died. He was run over by a truck on a dark, cold street. In one moment, my life changed and I’ve never been the same. The grief still burns in my soul and I wish with every ounce of my being that I had a chance to say good-bye. So, I do the next best thing: I live each day to the fullest and spread love wherever I go.

Life is short, too short in my opinion, and you never know when you’ll loved ones will be gone.

My father taught me many lessons but the biggest one he taught me is to love everyone, no matter who they are or where they’ve come from. He taught me the importance of forgiveness and loving your enemies. But it’s his death that taught me the importance of saying, “I love you.”

This Pink Floyd song is one of our songs and he loved singing it to me. Why this song? For this stanza:

We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,

Running over the same old ground.

What have we found?

The same old fears.

Wish you were here.

I wish you were here, Dad. I’d give you a hug and tell you one last time how much I love you!

Today, call/write/email/text/emoji your loved one and tell them those three magical words:

I love you!

Our Human Compassion Binds Us so Express Love to Others! #inspiration #compassion #grateful

Compassion

Are you compassionate?

All humans have the capability of being compassionate.  Yet, so many humans do not.  They are consumed with their own lives and needs that they forget about helping out another human.

We need to infuse the world with compassion.  How???  Simply by showing compassion and extending a helping hand.

If you see someone hungry, feed them.  If you see someone fall down, help them up.  If you see someone needing shelter, give them shelter.  If you see someone feeling down, smile.

Try it today.  Showing compassion is another form of love, one which binds us one to the other. We’re no longer alone but brothers and sisters.

Spiritual Love: Faith When You Can’t See What’s in Store #Easter #Passover #inspiration

Faith

When the darkness is closing in, have faith.

Last night at sundown, Passover started. For those who don’t know the story of Passover, let me summarize. The Jews were enslaved in Egypt. God freed the Jews uplifting Moses as their leader. Moses told Egypt to let his people go but the king didn’t listen to him. God, in essence, changed the king’s mind. The Jews followed Moses into the wilderness blindly; they were just happy to be free. But happiness soon turned to worry as they realized they were in the middle of nowhere. They were hungry and the darkness was closing in. Moses prayed and God answered his prayers. The result: the ten commandments. Passover is the celebration of freedom.

We’ve all been enslaved by something. Whether its a job, relationship, money, circumstance, we were once a slave and have been freed. But what happens after we’re freed? We’re wandering around in the desert, not sure what to do or where to go. The darkness suffocates us as it gets nearer. How to cope?

Faith.

Just like the Jews back in the 13th century BC, we clutch onto our faith. Faith is trusting in God to guide us in the wilderness. Faith is following the lighted path, even when we can’t see our hand in front of our face.

Faith is seeing Light with your heart when all your eyes see is darkness.

Happy Passover, dear followers!

If You Love A Toaster, I Promise I Won’t Judge #love #MondayBlogs #LoveisLove

Love

Love is the theme this week, as it’s Holy Week for both Christians and Jews. Love is on my mind and today I’m going to be truthful and honest. Some of you may not like what I have to say and I’m okay with that. I feel led to speak the truth in love, not hate.

I heard this song, Take Me to Church by Hozier, last week. Here’s the lyrics and the video (PG-13 rating):

My lover’s got humour
She’s the giggle at a funeral
Knows everybody’s disapproval
I should’ve worshipped her sooner
If the heavens ever did speak
She’s the last true mouthpiece
Every Sunday’s getting more bleak
A fresh poison each week
“We were born sick”
You heard them say it
My church offers no absolutes
She tells me “worship in the bedroom”
The only heaven I’ll be sent to
Is when I’m alone with you
I was born sick, but I love it
Command me to be well
Amen, Amen, Amen
Take me to church
I’ll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I’ll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
[x2]
If I’m a pagan of the good times
My lover’s the sunlight
To keep the goddess on my side
She demands
Take me to church
I’ll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I’ll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
[x2]
No masters or kings when the ritual begins
There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin
In the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene
Only then I am human
Only then I am clean
Amen, Amen, Amen
Take me to church
I’ll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I’ll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
[x2]

Love is love. No matter who you are and who you love, what you beliefs and values are, you love. Every religion and spiritual practice speaks of love. As human beings, we have a desire to love and be loved.

It angers me when Christians, Jews, Muslim, New Age, Agnostics, etc. judge other people by who they love. Here’s a sampling of various holy texts quotes on love:

The Bible: Matthew 22:36 – 22:40 —

36 Master, which [is] the great commandment in the law?

37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38 This is the first and great commandment.

39 And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Torah: Leviticus 19:17–18 —

You shall not hate your kinsman in your heart.
Reprove your neighbor, but incur no guilt because of him.
You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against your kinsfolk.
Love your neighbor as yourself: I am Adonai.

Ancient Philosopher, Socrates:

One word frees us
Of all the weight and pain in life,
That word is Love.

Love is universal. Love is within us all and nowhere in any of these texts does it say to judge another by who he/she loves. In every religion/spiritual belief, we’re not called upon to judge. It’s not our place and honestly, who wants that kind of responsibility?

Listen, I’m a Christian and I follow Jesus’ example. He loved everyone. Sure, He didn’t love the sin or what they did wrong. But He didn’t judge; He left that to His Father, the Lord. He walked among sinners, especially lepers, prostitutes and tax collectors. He preached turning the other cheek, loving everyone, spreading the good word, housing and feeding others in His name.

I follow His example of truth, kindness and being the embodiment of love. I don’t judge and in fact, it doesn’t matter to me if people’s soul mates are their toasters. Yup, you read that right. If someone is in love with his/her toaster, well, I’m happy for them! God bless because everyone should experience love.

So today, on the first day of Holy Week (even if you’re not religious), show love not hate to others. Let all that you do be in love.

Be Inspired by People Who Are Generous and Kind! #inspiration #grateful

Who inspires you?

One of the people who inspires me is my aunt. After going through a bitter divorce, she worked full-time while putting herself through nursing school in the evenings. We call her wild and crazy Aunti and she loves that name.  She taught me to live life fully, enjoy every minute and make your own dreams come true.

Do you have a wild and crazy Aunti in your life? Let them inspire you and then pass along that inspiration to others. Life can be difficult and as my Aunti says, “You never know what a person’s really like unless they’re up to their neck in shite.” Our true personality comes out in the most dire circumstances.

Read the quote above and then take a moment to let the people who inspire you know how grateful you are to have them in your life.

What’s A Commonality Between People Around the World? #Kindness and #Love! #inspiration

kindness

What are two things we have in common with everyone around the world?

Kindness and love.

No matter what country you’re from, what language you speak or what you believe, we all want to be loved and to love. When someone is kind to us, it makes a difference. Love and kindness are our commonality; it’s what makes us human.

Yesterday, there was an attack on London’s Parliament. At last count, four people have died and 29 people were injured (could be more). In the midst of all this chaos, kindness and love appeared.

“The minister for counter-terrorism, Tobias Ellwood, a former soldier, raced to give first aid to the police officer who later died. Pictures showed him with blood on his face as he administered CPR.” – The Guardian

While everyone else was running to safety, this brave minister ran into danger to try to save the life of the police officer who shot the terrorist. Covered in blood, he gave of himself to try to save another human being.

Kindness and love.

Today and every day, show kindness and love. Stop trying to see what makes you different from others and see the glaring commonality. Spread love and be the embodiment of kindness.

How do you show kindness and love? Share in the comments below.

Celebrate Love Every Day! #inspiration #motivation #love

febraury-love-month-graphic

Love is friendship that has caught fire. It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving. It is loyalty through good and bad times. It settles for less than perfection and makes allowances for human weaknesses.  – Ann Landers

Throughout the month of February we’ve been talking about love in various forms. On the last day of Love Month, I’d like to talk about love in general terms.

Love is all around us and the essence of who we are. We love and are the embodiment of love. We love people, places and things. We share love with everyone we meet and when we leave this mortal coil, love is our legacy.

I love the quote above because it explains clearly what love is and why it is so important. Unconditional love is the greatest achievement humans can hope for. Love helps us get through the rough times and makes life worthwhile.

Celebrate love every day, not just in February! Be forgiving when someone wrongs you. Share your love without condition. Be grateful for everything you have and be the embodiment of love.

Raise Your Hand if You Love #SocialMedia … #MondayBlogs #love #motivation

Who here loves social media?

I do, too, but there comes a time when our love for social media takes over our lives. It becomes an obsession. You have to be online 24/7 to make sure you don’t miss an update and/or notification.

As a writer/blogger/marketer, I understand what you’re going through. It’s hard to shut off but trust me when I tell you that shutting off your device for a few hours or even a day is actually beneficial to your health.

The term is digital detox and it’s becoming more and more popular. Read all about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_detox

When I became a social media marketer six years ago, MR N and I made an agreement to take weekends off. If a client emailed me on the weekend, I wouldn’t read it or reply. The weekends were off-limits and reserved for family time.

Was it hard?

Sure, it was… and sometimes still is. But it’s necessary for my overall health and at the end of the day, I’m much happier.

Listen, social media is great and I’d be out of a job if it wasn’t for social media. I met MR N via social media and I’m forever grateful. But there comes a time when we all have to unplug and get away.

Love of social media is perfectly healthy and rather fun. But when you start to get anxious and stressed out by social media, maybe it’s time to take a break. Shut off your device for one hour and see what happens. Relax, take it easy, go for a walk, do something you enjoy. Social media’s like your faithful pet; it’ll be there when you get back.

A Love Redeemed: Fight for What’s Right and True! #inspiration #love

febraury-love-month-graphic

This past week, I’ve been reflecting on my life. I’m so happy and so blessed… but my life wasn’t always this way. There were so many dark days and moments where I didn’t think I could go on.

How did I get through?

I fought.

life is fighting

I don’t mean in the physical sense, with my fists, but mentally.

When I was bullied in school, I kept going.

When I was rejected by a guy who only wanted to be friends, I kept going.

When I lost a job, I looked for the next one.

When my dream of being published started slipping through my fingers, I found another way.

Life is hard. It’s painful, exhausting and filled with potholes. But you’ve gotta keep fighting.

Why?

The alternative is grave.

There’ll be dark days but the light days outweigh the dark and make it worthwhile.

What are you fighting for? Have you told your loved ones how much they mean to you?

Do it right now! Before it’s too late.

In the Sunshine

This morning I was struck by a sight unseen

Joelle walking in the sunshine

So beautiful

Like out of a dream.

Your glasses

Your smile

Your hair just so

I was amazed by your beauty

By the ability to love you even more.

You are so beautiful

‘Tis you I adore

I love you my angel

More now

Forever more.

Today we’re going to talk about love of the outdoors.

I love being outside. I think it stems from my nature walks I used to take with my mom. We didn’t have a lot of money when I was young but that didn’t stop us from having grand adventures.

Every Saturday morning, we’d head out to the library. We’d spend most of the morning reading books and deciding which books to check out. In the afternoon, if the weather allowed us, we’d go for a nature hike. We’d listen to the birds singing, try to identify various flowers and trees, explore new paths and have a terrific time. She’d teach me about the importance of nature and the world around us.

Those memories molded me into the nature-loving person I am today. Every morning, I go outdoors for my walk. When my to-do list is overwhelming and work’s stressing me out, a walk outside helps center myself. I watch the leaves rustle in the breeze, listen to the birds singing and become one with nature.

Do you have a favorite activity you love doing outdoors? I’d love to hear so share in the comments below.

No matter what you have going on today, take a moment or two and get outside. Go for a walk or take a bike ride. Commune with nature and give thanks for the beauty of the outdoors.

Listen to Your Body and Take Care of Yourself! #WednesdayWisdom #Love #Health

febraury-love-month-graphic

What Can I Do?

My baby is sobbing in pain

What, God, can I do?

I’m helpless

My efforts in vain

I seek to comfort

To ease her.

I love her.

Please God, take this pain from her

Put it on me

I’ll suffer all for my love.

Just please, give her comfort

I’ll do anything for my love.

Do you love your body? Do you take care of it with the same passion you take care of your family?

For several years, I took advantage of my body. I didn’t take care of it and certainly didn’t love it. I put it down, spewing hateful comments and despising myself. I didn’t fuel it with the right food yet expected it to perform like a F1 race car.

Your health and taking care of yourself should be top priority. Take it from me, I know. If you take proper care of your body, it will take care of you.

MR N wrote the above poem for me as I was dealing with a really bad cold. I was sick, couldn’t sleep and was miserable. He felt helpless and wanted to make me well. These are his thoughts, his emotions, his love for my health. It was at this moment, I realized I needed to take better care of myself.

Flash-forward thirteen years. It’s Love Weekend and I’m sick with a really bad cold. I’m feeling yucky and guilty for ruining our weekend. He holds me close and whispers loving words to me. He comforts me and I let his love for my health wash over me.

I take good care of myself and my health is very important to me. Why? Because it’s important to my beloved and thus, extremely important to me. I want to live a long life, with MR N, and the only way to secure that is to take care of my body.

How do I take care of my body?

I drink 3 litres of water a day, walk 4 times a week, eat healthy portions, make sure I get at least 7 hours of sleep a night and release stress in productive ways. I listen to my body, too. When it needs to rest, I rest. When it gets ansty for a walk, I walk. When it craves a certain food or drink, I indulge. My body and I are life-long partners and we take care of each other.

Are you taking care of your body? Do you listen to your body? What are some ways you love your body? Share in the comments below.

Sharing a Meal With Someone: A Love Affair with Food! #inspiration #love #cooking

febraury-love-month-graphic
“Eating is so intimate. It’s very sensual. When you invite someone to sit at your table and you want to cook for them, you’re inviting a person into your life.” –Maya Angelou

I have a love affair with food and it’s one of the reasons why I love MR N so much.

When I first met MR N, one of the things we bonded over immediately was food. We both loved food and with MR N being a chef at the time, I swooned when he first cooked for me. One bite was pure heaven and I was goner. I had met my own personal Emeril and I wasn’t going to let him go.

This past weekend was a long weekend for us and we celebrated love all weekend. We watched romantic movies and MR N cooked incredible food. It was his Valentine’s gift to me. He’s able to  stretch his culinary talents and I get to savor every bite.

The above quote speaks to us all. Sharing a meal and/or cooking for someone is very intimate. We’re showing how much we care by creating a delicious meal they’ll enjoy.

Cooking a meal is just one way to show those you love how much you care.

Online Friends: A Powerful Love #inspiration #love #friendship

febraury-love-month-graphic

“I dislike the phrase ‘Internet friends,’ because it implies that people you know online aren’t really your friends, that somehow the friendship is less real or meaningful to you because it happens through Skype or text messages. The measure of a friendship is not its physicality but its significance.” ― John Green, This Star Won’t Go Out: The Life and Words of Esther Grace Earl

I thank God every day for my online friends. They’re more dependable, caring and loving than my some of my own family and friends.

I have a great circle of online friends. They’re there to support me in times of need and celebrate with me in times of triumph. I know I can depend on them through thick and thin, no matter what. It doesn’t matter that they live thousands of miles away or that they speak a different language.

Friends, whether they are “real” or “online”, are one of life’s greatest joys. We smile when we see a message from them and whatever is happening takes a backseat. We share something funny, sad or meaningful. We ask for advice or give it when needed. We congratulate when something positive happens and offer hugs when something bad happens. Our online friends, through the power of social media, provide love and it’s simply wonderful.

There’s so many amazing people out there who hold a special place in my heart. I thank you all for showing me the power of positive thinking and love. Without you, my life would be miserable. I’m so grateful!

Send a message to all your online friends today and tell them how much they mean to you! Share a laugh, like I did above. lol!

A #Grateful Love: Helping Those Less Fortunate #gratitude #love #foodbanks

febraury-love-month-graphic

“There is a lot that happens around the world we cannot control. We cannot stop earthquakes, we cannot prevent droughts, and we cannot prevent all conflict, but when we know where the hungry, the homeless and the sick exist, then we can help.” — Jan Schakowsky

How’s your love meter this month? Is it off the charts or dwindling after the high of Valentine’s Day?

Love is something we express every day of the year, not just on special holidays like Valentine’s Day. Love for yourself, your loved ones, love for those fortunate, etc. are all residing in your heart, ready to unleash on the world.

Let me ask you a serious question. Do you love those less fortunate?

As humans, we have a natural ability and need for community. We all want to belong, to be a part of something special, something meaningful. Today, more than ever, we crave community. But what about those less fortunate? Don’t they deserve to belong, too?

I read a disturbing article yesterday talking about how even though the need for food banks is at an all-time high, donations are down severely. We’re big supporters of food banks, both in Canada and America. We talk about how important it is to feed people and how every child deserves to be fed. But we need your help; we can’t do it alone.

This month is commonly known as Love month so I’m begging you to take your love for community and go donate food/clothing/toys/money/time at your local food bank/pantry/shelter. Together, we can help those in need.

Read the quote above and ask yourself, “How can I help?” Then go and do it. Love for the less fortunate is an unconditional love and it truly is an act of charity.

I’m so grateful and so are the millions of men, women and children in need.
