Be Inspired by People Who Are Generous and Kind! #inspiration #grateful

Who inspires you?

One of the people who inspires me is my aunt. After going through a bitter divorce, she worked full-time while putting herself through nursing school in the evenings. We call her wild and crazy Aunti and she loves that name.  She taught me to live life fully, enjoy every minute and make your own dreams come true.

Do you have a wild and crazy Aunti in your life? Let them inspire you and then pass along that inspiration to others. Life can be difficult and as my Aunti says, “You never know what a person’s really like unless they’re up to their neck in shite.” Our true personality comes out in the most dire circumstances.

Read the quote above and then take a moment to let the people who inspire you know how grateful you are to have them in your life.

What’s A Commonality Between People Around the World? #Kindness and #Love! #inspiration

kindness

What are two things we have in common with everyone around the world?

Kindness and love.

No matter what country you’re from, what language you speak or what you believe, we all want to be loved and to love. When someone is kind to us, it makes a difference. Love and kindness are our commonality; it’s what makes us human.

Yesterday, there was an attack on London’s Parliament. At last count, four people have died and 29 people were injured (could be more). In the midst of all this chaos, kindness and love appeared.

“The minister for counter-terrorism, Tobias Ellwood, a former soldier, raced to give first aid to the police officer who later died. Pictures showed him with blood on his face as he administered CPR.” – The Guardian

While everyone else was running to safety, this brave minister ran into danger to try to save the life of the police officer who shot the terrorist. Covered in blood, he gave of himself to try to save another human being.

Kindness and love.

Today and every day, show kindness and love. Stop trying to see what makes you different from others and see the glaring commonality. Spread love and be the embodiment of kindness.

Celebrate Love Every Day! #inspiration #motivation #love

Love is friendship that has caught fire. It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving. It is loyalty through good and bad times. It settles for less than perfection and makes allowances for human weaknesses.  – Ann Landers

Throughout the month of February we’ve been talking about love in various forms. On the last day of Love Month, I’d like to talk about love in general terms.

Love is all around us and the essence of who we are. We love and are the embodiment of love. We love people, places and things. We share love with everyone we meet and when we leave this mortal coil, love is our legacy.

I love the quote above because it explains clearly what love is and why it is so important. Unconditional love is the greatest achievement humans can hope for. Love helps us get through the rough times and makes life worthwhile.

Celebrate love every day, not just in February! Be forgiving when someone wrongs you. Share your love without condition. Be grateful for everything you have and be the embodiment of love.

Raise Your Hand if You Love #SocialMedia … #MondayBlogs #love #motivation

social-media-1006480_1280

Who here loves social media?

I do, too, but there comes a time when our love for social media takes over our lives. It becomes an obsession. You have to be online 24/7 to make sure you don’t miss an update and/or notification.

As a writer/blogger/marketer, I understand what you’re going through. It’s hard to shut off but trust me when I tell you that shutting off your device for a few hours or even a day is actually beneficial to your health.

The term is digital detox and it’s becoming more and more popular. Read all about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_detox

When I became a social media marketer six years ago, MR N and I made an agreement to take weekends off. If a client emailed me on the weekend, I wouldn’t read it or reply. The weekends were off-limits and reserved for family time.

Was it hard?

Sure, it was… and sometimes still is. But it’s necessary for my overall health and at the end of the day, I’m much happier.

Listen, social media is great and I’d be out of a job if it wasn’t for social media. I met MR N via social media and I’m forever grateful. But there comes a time when we all have to unplug and get away.

Love of social media is perfectly healthy and rather fun. But when you start to get anxious and stressed out by social media, maybe it’s time to take a break. Shut off your device for one hour and see what happens. Relax, take it easy, go for a walk, do something you enjoy. Social media’s like your faithful pet; it’ll be there when you get back.

Do you take a digital detox? Share your experience in the comments below.

A Love Redeemed: Fight for What’s Right and True! #inspiration #love

febraury-love-month-graphic

This past week, I’ve been reflecting on my life. I’m so happy and so blessed… but my life wasn’t always this way. There were so many dark days and moments where I didn’t think I could go on.

How did I get through?

I fought.

life is fighting

I don’t mean in the physical sense, with my fists, but mentally.

When I was bullied in school, I kept going.

When I was rejected by a guy who only wanted to be friends, I kept going.

When I lost a job, I looked for the next one.

When my dream of being published started slipping through my fingers, I found another way.

Life is hard. It’s painful, exhausting and filled with potholes. But you’ve gotta keep fighting.

Why?

The alternative is grave.

There’ll be dark days but the light days outweigh the dark and make it worthwhile.

What are you fighting for? Have you told your loved ones how much they mean to you?

Do it right now! Before it’s too late.

In the Sunshine

This morning I was struck by a sight unseen

Joelle walking in the sunshine

So beautiful

Like out of a dream.

Your glasses

Your smile

Your hair just so

I was amazed by your beauty

By the ability to love you even more.

You are so beautiful

‘Tis you I adore

I love you my angel

More now

Forever more.

Today we’re going to talk about love of the outdoors.

I love being outside. I think it stems from my nature walks I used to take with my mom. We didn’t have a lot of money when I was young but that didn’t stop us from having grand adventures.

Every Saturday morning, we’d head out to the library. We’d spend most of the morning reading books and deciding which books to check out. In the afternoon, if the weather allowed us, we’d go for a nature hike. We’d listen to the birds singing, try to identify various flowers and trees, explore new paths and have a terrific time. She’d teach me about the importance of nature and the world around us.

Those memories molded me into the nature-loving person I am today. Every morning, I go outdoors for my walk. When my to-do list is overwhelming and work’s stressing me out, a walk outside helps center myself. I watch the leaves rustle in the breeze, listen to the birds singing and become one with nature.

Do you have a favorite activity you love doing outdoors? I’d love to hear so share in the comments below.

No matter what you have going on today, take a moment or two and get outside. Go for a walk or take a bike ride. Commune with nature and give thanks for the beauty of the outdoors.

Listen to Your Body and Take Care of Yourself! #WednesdayWisdom #Love #Health

febraury-love-month-graphic

What Can I Do?

My baby is sobbing in pain

What, God, can I do?

I’m helpless

My efforts in vain

I seek to comfort

To ease her.

I love her.

Please God, take this pain from her

Put it on me

I’ll suffer all for my love.

Just please, give her comfort

I’ll do anything for my love.

© 2016 Poetry of Love: The Engagement Year by N. N. Light, All rights reserved

Do you love your body? Do you take care of it with the same passion you take care of your family?

For several years, I took advantage of my body. I didn’t take care of it and certainly didn’t love it. I put it down, spewing hateful comments and despising myself. I didn’t fuel it with the right food yet expected it to perform like a F1 race car.

Your health and taking care of yourself should be top priority. Take it from me, I know. If you take proper care of your body, it will take care of you.

MR N wrote the above poem for me as I was dealing with a really bad cold. I was sick, couldn’t sleep and was miserable. He felt helpless and wanted to make me well. These are his thoughts, his emotions, his love for my health. It was at this moment, I realized I needed to take better care of myself.

Flash-forward thirteen years. It’s Love Weekend and I’m sick with a really bad cold. I’m feeling yucky and guilty for ruining our weekend. He holds me close and whispers loving words to me. He comforts me and I let his love for my health wash over me.

I take good care of myself and my health is very important to me. Why? Because it’s important to my beloved and thus, extremely important to me. I want to live a long life, with MR N, and the only way to secure that is to take care of my body.

How do I take care of my body?

I drink 3 litres of water a day, walk 4 times a week, eat healthy portions, make sure I get at least 7 hours of sleep a night and release stress in productive ways. I listen to my body, too. When it needs to rest, I rest. When it gets ansty for a walk, I walk. When it craves a certain food or drink, I indulge. My body and I are life-long partners and we take care of each other.

Are you taking care of your body? Do you listen to your body? What are some ways you love your body? Share in the comments below.

Sharing a Meal With Someone: A Love Affair with Food! #inspiration #love #cooking

febraury-love-month-graphic
“Eating is so intimate. It’s very sensual. When you invite someone to sit at your table and you want to cook for them, you’re inviting a person into your life.” –Maya Angelou

I have a love affair with food and it’s one of the reasons why I love MR N so much.

When I first met MR N, one of the things we bonded over immediately was food. We both loved food and with MR N being a chef at the time, I swooned when he first cooked for me. One bite was pure heaven and I was goner. I had met my own personal Emeril and I wasn’t going to let him go.

This past weekend was a long weekend for us and we celebrated love all weekend. We watched romantic movies and MR N cooked incredible food. It was his Valentine’s gift to me. He’s able to  stretch his culinary talents and I get to savor every bite.

The above quote speaks to us all. Sharing a meal and/or cooking for someone is very intimate. We’re showing how much we care by creating a delicious meal they’ll enjoy.

Cooking a meal is just one way to show those you love how much you care.

Online Friends: A Powerful Love #inspiration #love #friendship

febraury-love-month-graphic

“I dislike the phrase ‘Internet friends,’ because it implies that people you know online aren’t really your friends, that somehow the friendship is less real or meaningful to you because it happens through Skype or text messages. The measure of a friendship is not its physicality but its significance.” ― John Green, This Star Won’t Go Out: The Life and Words of Esther Grace Earl

I thank God every day for my online friends. They’re more dependable, caring and loving than my some of my own family and friends.

I have a great circle of online friends. They’re there to support me in times of need and celebrate with me in times of triumph. I know I can depend on them through thick and thin, no matter what. It doesn’t matter that they live thousands of miles away or that they speak a different language.

Friends, whether they are “real” or “online”, are one of life’s greatest joys. We smile when we see a message from them and whatever is happening takes a backseat. We share something funny, sad or meaningful. We ask for advice or give it when needed. We congratulate when something positive happens and offer hugs when something bad happens. Our online friends, through the power of social media, provide love and it’s simply wonderful.

There’s so many amazing people out there who hold a special place in my heart. I thank you all for showing me the power of positive thinking and love. Without you, my life would be miserable. I’m so grateful!

A #Grateful Love: Helping Those Less Fortunate #gratitude #love #foodbanks

febraury-love-month-graphic

“There is a lot that happens around the world we cannot control. We cannot stop earthquakes, we cannot prevent droughts, and we cannot prevent all conflict, but when we know where the hungry, the homeless and the sick exist, then we can help.” — Jan Schakowsky

How’s your love meter this month? Is it off the charts or dwindling after the high of Valentine’s Day?

Love is something we express every day of the year, not just on special holidays like Valentine’s Day. Love for yourself, your loved ones, love for those fortunate, etc. are all residing in your heart, ready to unleash on the world.

Let me ask you a serious question. Do you love those less fortunate?

As humans, we have a natural ability and need for community. We all want to belong, to be a part of something special, something meaningful. Today, more than ever, we crave community. But what about those less fortunate? Don’t they deserve to belong, too?

I read a disturbing article yesterday talking about how even though the need for food banks is at an all-time high, donations are down severely. We’re big supporters of food banks, both in Canada and America. We talk about how important it is to feed people and how every child deserves to be fed. But we need your help; we can’t do it alone.

This month is commonly known as Love month so I’m begging you to take your love for community and go donate food/clothing/toys/money/time at your local food bank/pantry/shelter. Together, we can help those in need.

Read the quote above and ask yourself, “How can I help?” Then go and do it. Love for the less fortunate is an unconditional love and it truly is an act of charity.

I’m so grateful and so are the millions of men, women and children in need.

Reading: A Love Affair With Books! #inspiration #love #books

febraury-love-month-graphic

“Whenever you read a good book, somewhere in the world a door opens to allow in more light.” –Vera Nazarian

If you were on a deserted island and could only bring three things, what would it be?

I would bring MR N, an unlimited supply of chocolate and my full library of books.

I love books. It borderlines on an addiction. I love to read and my love affair with books began when I was still in my mother’s womb. She’s a voracious reader and would read constantly when she was pregnant with me. She passed this love for all things books to me and it was the best gift she’d give me.

Why do I love books?

I love how I can learn new things with a swipe of my finger. I love how I can travel all over the world (and other galaxies) any time of the week. I love how I can connect with someone thousands of miles away, living a life I couldn’t imagine. I love how I can escape my life for a little while. I can time travel without leaving my chair.

There’s a lot of talk about how people are reading less and frankly, that’s not true. Amazon would be out of business if that was the case. People are reading and buying books, not to mention going to libraries to read. They just don’t want to pay high prices.

The world and society are a better place when people read. It brings us closer and enlightens us. It’s a dangerous precipice when we start censoring books and reading.

So, pick up a book and read today. It doesn’t matter what genre or heat level, just read. You’ll be supporting hard-working authors and it’s a great way to take a break.

What’s your favorite book and/or genre? Answer in the box below. I’d love to hear what you’re reading.

Joelle, My True Love

My thoughts are of you

Of how your caresses

Light a fire in my soul.

Of how your pretty smile

Brightens my whole day

How simply being near you

Takes the dark clouds away.

I love you with all my heart

My mind, body and soul

You will be my beloved wife

This truly will be my joy.

Happy Valentine’s Day! It’s time to talk about romantic love and I dedicate this day and inspirational thought to the man who taught me the real meaning of love, Mr. N.

From the time I was three, I dreamt of my Prince Charming, the handsome man who would love me and make all my dreams come true. I know it sounds like the total cliche but that is exactly what Mr. N did.

The fairy tale didn’t go exactly like it is portrayed by Disney. In fact, I broke Mr. N’s heart twice. Yup, I broke up with him twice, crushing him deeply. It wasn’t until I looked deep into his eyes (for the third time) and saw the unconditional love there that I realized Mr. N’s real name is Prince Charming.

The above poem Mr. N wrote to me on Valentine’s Day when we were engaged. He had to work a double-shift at the restaurant (18 hours) and it tore us both apart that we had to be away from each other on Valentine’s Day. Such is the life of a chef and his beloved but we made the best of it and when he got home, he shared his poem with me. ❤

Nowadays, we don’t celebrate our engagement anniversary on Valentine’s Day but on the weekend following. We call it Love Weekend and it’s a three-day weekend chockful of delicious food, cocktails and romantic movies. We look forward to it every year and it’s one of the ways we keep our marriage burning hot. 😉

This Valentine’s Day, if you’re in a relationship, be sure to take a moment to tell your beloved how much you love them. You don’t have to go out to a fancy restaurant or spend a lot of money on gifts and flowers to show you care. Spending time with your beloved and showering them with your kindness and love is the best gift you can give.

A note to singles: Listen, I know this is a hard day for you. Everyone around you is gushing about romantic love. Take today and shower yourself with love. Don’t throw a pity party but cherish yourself and indulge in something decadent. You’re beautiful and I love you!

Spread Love and Light!

This #ValentinesDay N. N. Light Shares Their Courtship and More #books #amwriting #IARTG

couple N N Light

A week ago, we were featured on Indie Publishing Group and they sat us down for an in-depth interview. We loved it and wanted to share it with you on Valentine’s Day. Don’t forget to scroll down to the bottom to see our latest release at a great price!

This Week’s Feature Author Interview with N. N. Light

Hi N. N. Light, welcome to the Indie Publishing Group website. Introduce yourself to us. Tell everyone who you are, where you’re from, what do you enjoy doing, hobbies and interests.

N. N. Light is the bestselling husband-wife writing team, commonly known as Mr. N and Mrs. N. Mrs. N. has been creating stories ever since she was little. Her grandfather remembers when she was two years old, she would stand at the top of the stairs and tell him a story filled with emotion (and in a language foreign to him) with her hands on her hips. Let’s just say she was a born storyteller.

We’re blissfully happy and love all things chocolate, books, music, movies, art, sports, trains, history, cooking and baking. Our mantra is to spread the Light and we talk about what that means every day on our blog.

Most of the time you can find us on Twitter (our favorite social media platform) or getting new ideas on how to spread the Light on Pinterest. We’re a proud member of ASMSG and Independent Author Network.

In addition to being authors, we’re also book promoters/reviewers, social media marketers/influencers and the owners of N. N. Light Author Promotions. We both love books, have ever since we were young. Matching up books and readers is something that gives us great pleasure.

When did you start writing and why?

Mrs. N: I’ve been writing and telling stories ever since I was little. Writing was my best friend and my confidante growing up. I poured my heart and soul into my writing and those who I let read my stories wanted more. After I graduated from college, the real world intruded and I entered the publishing world as a bookseller and bookstore manager. Writing took a backseat and it wasn’t until after I married Mr. N that I started writing my stories. He encouraged me to quit my job and write full-time. Together, we became N. N. Light.

Mr. N: It’s true, what my beloved says. After several years working as a chef in the restaurant industry, I was burned out and needed a change. A new career and higher pay meant she could concentrate on what she’s wanted most: to write and publish her stories. We work so well together that writing as a team is second nature and through the process, I discovered I had the talent for writing, too.

Which is your favorite book you have written and what gave you the idea for it?

Princess of the Light. It’s our debut novel and it’s the one closest to our hearts. Here’s the story behind it as told by Mrs. N:

Four years ago, I was out for my morning walk and I saw a homeless man sitting in front of a gas station.  I looked at him, head uplifted to the sun, and wondered what his story was.  I hadn’t seen him before and knew instantly he was different from other homeless people.  He didn’t ask for money or holdup a sign.  He walked the length of our town and avoided contact.

A voice entered my head, “What if you could help him?  Would you?  What if you were chosen to help him and others like him?”

I stopped walking and searched my heart.  After a moment, I replied aloud, “Yes, I would.”

The voice echoed in my heart, “This is what you were called to do.”

I went home that day and started writing Princess of the Light.  Every day I would see the Walking Man and as Mary would help her Walking Man, I would help mine.  I started small by smiling at him and saying “good morning”.  The simple acknowledgement didn’t seem like a big deal to me but every time I did it, his face lit up and he nodded back to me.

I soon got my husband involved and we started leaving food, clothing and blankets for him. I promised myself that when my book got published, part of the proceeds would go to helping people like the Walking Man find food, clothing and shelter.

Our book is available at Amazon and we’re keeping our promise. Part of the proceeds of Princess of the Light goes directly to food banks in order to feed the hungry and help those in need. With only 7,500 books sold, we will be able to set up a monthly endowment for the local food bank.

We’re currently writing the sequel to Princess of the Light and will fingers crossed be available in late 2017/early 2018.

How did you come up with the title for your book?

The title was pretty easy as that is what Mary is (Princess of the Light) and she’s been chosen to fight Lucifer’s army of demons and restore Light to all.

Who helped you with the cover? Or did your design it yourself? What was your inspiration for your cover design?

Our cover artist is French (Erica Petit) and she really nailed it. We wanted a powerful cover to convey the strength and badassery of Mary.

What are some of the themes of your story?

There are several themes going on in this paranormal inspirational romance.

First, there’s the calling of Mary. She’s leading a double-life and it’s imperative she balance her normal life with her Princess life. Sometimes they overlap and she must deal with whatever happens.

Second theme is the romance between Mary and Joe. While it seems like a chance meeting, it’s part of a bigger plan. Mary and Joe must overcome quite a bit and all while battling dark forces and an ex-fiancée.

Third theme is the transformation of a homeless man called The Walking Man. He’s the lost soul, tortured beyond recognition by Than (Lucifer’s second in command). When Mary and Joe decide to show kindness to The Walking Man, realization hits too close to home for Joe. Forgiveness, redemption, spiritual warfare all play their part in this story. We wanted to show readers that simple acts of kindness and understanding to those less fortunate can have a huge impact.

Have you got anything you’re working on now?

We’re working on a few projects. We’re writing the sequel to Princess of the Light. We’re writing an alternative history book (Mr. N is the pointman on this project as it’s his creation) as well as a new adult romance. We’re also putting together the sequel to our love poetry collection as well as an inspirational thought book.

If you could have any super powers what would they be?

Time travel. Both of us lost our dads when we were young and we’d give just about anything to go back in time and relive time with our dads.

Thanks so much for taking the time to do an author interview. Take a minute and check N. N. Light out on the links below!

Our Love

Our love exists in so many ways

Even when parted I feel you

I long for your gaze

Knowing our love is true.

When in the heaven of your arms

I feel our love’s warmth surround me.

Leave me gasping breathless in serenity.

The pureness, sweetness and sincerity

Our so perfect love

Oft compels me to my knees

To thank our Lord above

Spiritual Love: When Souls Unite #inspiration #love #MondayBlogs

febraury-love-month-graphic

When Souls Unite

Two become one

When souls unite

The connection is pure

Such beautiful delight.

The warmth

The expression

Of total devoted love

Proves to us both

That the Lord is above.

It was God’s plan

That two become one

The perfection of two

Is how God wanted it done.

© 2016 Poetry of Love: The Engagement Year by N. N. Light, All rights reserved

There’s an old saying: A marriage is like a triangle and the three partners are God and two people. You can’t have unconditional love without God and you can’t love each other fully without trusting in God.

When I was single, I prayed to God every day for Him to send me the man I was supposed to be with and for Him to give me the courage to recognize him when he arrived in my life. God upheld His part of the deal but me, not so much. In fact, it took three times for me to recognize MR N as my beloved (thank goodness MR N is a patient man).

The truth is that I loved God first and I believe that’s how it’s supposed to be. In order for me to fully love MR N, I had to have a deep, spiritual love for God. I still do. My spiritual love for God is never-ending and grows deeper every year.

Instead of a triangle, I envision my love relationship with God and MR N as a circle. There is no beginning and no end; it’s continuous. God instills love in our hearts and He fills us with Light every single day.

No matter who you are or what your beliefs are, we are all spiritual beings and we all crave oneness with the Universe. Every connection/relationship we make, our souls rejoice. We’re on a path to enlightenment and sometimes the journey is fraught with obstacles.

Follow your inner light and it will never steer you wrong.

** When I mention God, I’m referring to a Higher Being. He/She goes by many names and feel free to insert His/Her name whenever you read God in this piece. **

Pets: Unconditional Love in Animal Form #inspiration #love #pets

febraury-love-month-graphic

“Pets are humanizing. They remind us we have an obligation and responsibility to preserve and nurture and care for all life.” — James Cromwell

Raise your hand if you have a pet.

Pets are one of life’s greatest joys and sorrow. They bring unconditional love to our lives and we are better people for it. Sorrow and grief comes when they pass away.

I’ve had a few pets in my life but the one pet that sticks with me is Chopper. Chopper technically was my aunt and uncle’s Golden Retriever but I still consider him my favorite fur baby. He and I had an unbreakable bond. He’d look at me with those chocolate brown eyes and I’d melt. He’d protect me from harm and loved to snuggle with me while I watched television.

Pets have a way of making even the worst day of your life appear not so bad. Their undying love for you, their owners, is the purest example of love.

I like James Cromwell’s quote because as humans, we’re the caretakers on Earth. It’s our responsibility to care for and protect all life, no matter how small. Having pets grows our compassion for animals and all life.

Today, give a little extra attention and love to your pets. It’s takes a lot of work to be a pet and being adorable can be exhausting. Show love to your pet and it will be eternally grateful.

Valentine Cookie Boxes1

Welcome to this week’s edition of Friday Book Round-Up. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I keep thinking about how excited I got when I was young. In elementary school, we took a shoe box and created Valentine Boxes. It was so much fun because on Valentine’s Day, everyone would put valentines in each box. I loved it and it’s one of the things I miss as an adult. So, in honor of that grade-school tradition, I made Valentine cookie boxes for each of you. Zero calories, too! 😉

Anyway, I went onto Amazon and found some sweet Valentine’s Day Children’s Books. Some are free, some less than $1 and some best-sellers. Take a peek and 1-click today:

Elizabeth Purcell has been writing and performing original children’s stories for more than 30 years. Her story rhymes delight beginning readers and help them to learn phonics effectively. Your children will read her stories over and over again — developing their reading skills in the process!

They are astonished. “Hearts? She even has a heart that encourages them to do their best and one full of pride as they learn something new, and, of course, a heart full of patience.

They realize how blessed they are and have a greater appreciation for their mother.

Charming, delightful rhyming words tell the tale and tickle the heart along with bouncy, bright, and happy images.

Children: A Parent’s Expression of Love to the Universe #love #inspiration #parents

febraury-love-month-graphic

“A life-long blessing for children is to fill them with warm memories of times together. Happy memories become treasures in the heart to pull out on the tough days of adulthood.” — Charlotte Kasl

I remember both my parents whispering in my ear, “You are my world and I love you more than anything.” It gave me confidence to go to school, try new things and be a good person. Their love for me was my foundation, my strength, my support.

A parent’s love for their child is like nothing else in the world. A parent is responsible for growing and nurturing a whole person. Every action, feeling, word is absorbed by the child like a sponge.

I do not have any children but I have friends and family who are parents. They tell me what a joy it is to have children and how being a parent changes your life, your perspective on the Universe. Sure, kids can be challenging and difficult at times. But there’s nothing sweeter than when your child gives you a hug and tells you, “I love you!”

Parents, today and every day, tell you children how much you love them. They’ll make a face and squirm but know they take your love with them like an invisible shield which safeguards them out in the world. Create happy memories for your children to reflect on in the hard days of adulthood.

Best Friends: Walking the Path of Life Together #inspiration #love #grateful

febraury-love-month-graphic

On My Wedding Day (Wedding Vows)

On my wedding day, I’m honored to be here

In front of friends, family and God, with my soul mate by my side.

I often thought I’d walk the long road of life alone.

I was ready to give up on love, then the miracle happened, you can back to me.

Joelle, you’re my beautiful angel.

I’m so lucky and blessed this day, I’m marrying the girl of my dreams.

My heart’s beating so fast, I’m so full of love for you.

You’re my best friend, my soul mate, my life partner, for now and eternity.

I just want to thank you for being mine.

And thank God for letting me have this, my perfect dream come true.

You, Joelle, as my wife.

I love you.

Best friends are one of life’s greatest treasures.

We’ve all had best friends, those people who know all our faults and love us anyway. They’re there for us in time of need, whether it is to hold us when we cry or laugh with us at something amusing.

I remember in high school I had a best friend. Her name was Beth. She and I became best friends in the 11th grade. She was a very popular girl and I … wasn’t. I was shy and more of the quiet, creative, brainy type. But that didn’t matter to her. We didn’t hang out with her friends or mine; we hung out together. I slept over at her house quite a bit and she drove us to school in the morning.

She was having trouble with something (forgive me for not recalling what it was exactly) and I was trying to encourage her. She turned to me on the couch and said, “You know you’re my best friend, right?”

I nodded and smiled.

“You’re mine, too.”

“I’ve never met anyone like you before,” she spoke softly. “You’d love me, even if I confessed to you that I pooped in my bed.”

“Sure,” I began. “Just don’t ask me to clean it up.”

We laughed and went back to the show we were watching.

That’s what best friends do. We love each other, no matter what.

I’m so lucky because when I met MR N, we became friends first. We soon became best friends and then fell in love. MR N is my best friend and even though we’re married, I know I can confess my hidden feelings/thoughts and he won’t judge me. He loves me, warts and all.

Whether your best friend is your mate or someone else, give them a hug and tell them:

I love you!

A Father’s Love: Celebrating Love Month #inspiration #love #fathers

febraury-love-month-graphic

A Father’s Love

A little girl torn from her daddy,

A daddy blocked at every turn,

An unconditional love that burned bright.

I love you daddy, she whispered into the night air.

I love you too, my angel, he whispers back.

Neither can hear the other but both smile.

Their love transcends the distance.

A woman now, she feels her daddy’s love,

Wrapping around her, protecting her.

She cannot see his ghostly face,

But knows he is with her always.

Nothing can separate them now.

The truth has set them both free.

Free to love each other as was destined.

Free to be her daddy’s angel,

Free to be her daddy, now and forever.

© 2008 N. N. Light, All rights reserved

I continue my tour through love by talking about the love between a father and a daughter. I wrote this poem back in 2008 and in it I delve into the relationship I share with my father.

A father’s love is strong and true. He guides his children to live a purposeful life, full of hard work and integrity. He’s the example of what it means to be a man.

Like yesterday, please take a moment and give your father/dad a call, text, email, etc. Three words is all it takes: I love you. Don’t delay because you never know when you’ll wake up and he’ll be gone forever. Don’t live with the regret that I live with.

A Mother’s Love: A Celebration #mothers #MondayBlogs #love

The Love of Family

It’s something we both have

We’ve been so lucky

It’s joyous beyond compare.

I saw it in your time with your mom

I know you see it in mine too

When I’m around my mom.

It’s another blessed reason

Why our union is so divine

I love you my angel

I’m so glad you’re mine.

The bond between a mother and her child is strong and  this love is like nothing else in the world. It is hard to describe except to say this is one of the examples of unconditional love.

A mother gives everything she has (and then some) to her child. She protects her child with her life and I pity the fool who messes with her child. I liken it to a mama bear protecting her cubs. Motherhood is a daily decision each and every day to love your child unconditionally and to see the best in them. It’s something that should never be taken lightly.

It’s this love that both MR N and I brought to our marriage. Our mothers were so proud of us when we got married because they could see the love we share. It was a special moment to have both of our mums there to witness our wedding and our happiness. Our mothers’ love gave us the strength and confidence to love each other.

Take a moment and call, text, tweet, contact your mum. Say hi and share your gratitude for her love. She helped shape you into the beautiful person you’ve become.

Memories of Coming Home

The excitement of you

At our wedding site

The constant smile

On your pretty face.

The roaring fire

The bright shining stars

Holding you closely

Under the moon’s glowing rays.

Sharing you with my family

With joy in my heart

Feeling closer than ever

Family love: open, honest, caring and unconditional.

Family love is one of the strongest bonds we have. Whether it’s biological family or people who know us best, families love one another.

I can remember when I was first introduced to MR N’s family. It was the day after Valentine’s Day and I was petrified. I grew up an only child and never had any brothers or sisters. MR N has two brothers and one sister. They took me in as an adoptive sibling and made me feel part of the family. It was a secret dream come true because I’ve always wanted siblings.

I know that families are a challenge and we don’t always get along. My own side of the family is complicated and fraught with issues. But I love each of them, in my own way. Even if they aren’t reflecting unconditional love, I am and that’s all that matters.

Love one another and embrace your family.

Self-Love: Embrace Your Inner God/Goddess! #inspiration #love #motivation

febraury-love-month-graphic

I’m Not Beautiful

She says, ‘I’m Not Beautiful’

As she suffers with her cold.

What she doesn’t get is

She’s more beautiful than before.

Joelle’s beauty isn’t fleeting

Or temporary or a guise.

Her beauty is spectacular

Glowing

Flashing

My prize.

The beauty is born of an inner goddess

Her eyes radiate her beauty and character

A glimpse of her angelic soul.

I’m sorry, honey, you are beautiful

It’s impossible for you to be not

I’m marrying a beautiful woman

God’s gracious gift to me.

How’s your self-love meter? Do you look at yourself with love or disdain?

Self-love has always been a difficult thing for me. I could blame it on growing up, being bullied constantly and not living up to Hollywood’s perfect body image. The real reason is much more simpler than that. I believed in other people but not myself.

As many of know, I’m an encourager. It’s a part of my make-up to encourage and uplift others. But turn that gift inward and my inner critic goes into overdrive.

You’re not pretty.

You’re unlovable.

That outfit makes you look fluffy.

No one cares about you.

You’re getting older and it shows.

I have a secret weapon, though. When I hear those ugly words, I think of MR N and how much he loves me. The negative insults fade away and I whisper this mantra:

“I’m beautiful. I see myself the way MR N sees me: a goddess and an angel. I love myself.”

I know this sounds new-age but it really works. You have to love yourself before you can love others. Each of us has an inner god/goddess itching to break free and shine.

Embrace your inner god/goddess and love yourself!

The Value of Love: An Inspirational Thought #inspiration #love #WednesdayWisdom

febraury-love-month-graphic

The Value of Love

We both worry about money

About how we will live.

I stress

You cry

In the end

We should strive

To recognize the value of our love.

We work hard on our budget

Cutting corners

Using thrift

Overlooking how our Lord Jesus

Has given us THE gift

The total power of our love.

© 2016 Poetry of Love: The Engagement Year by N. N. Light, All rights reserved

What’s the value of love?

It’s more precious than all the gold, silver and money in the world.

I’m horrible with numbers, budgets and finances. When I was single, I lived paycheck to paycheck, racking up debt. I tried to save and work within a budget, really I did. But then I’d see a cute pair of shoes and I’d have to have them. Cha-ching, on the credit card.

MR N loves numbers, budgets and finances. His favorite thing to do is figuring out taxes. He digs in, reading up on the new tax laws and is just like a kid at Christmas.

When we got engaged in 2004, we pooled our finances together. Me with my wild spending and him with the tight budget. You’d think we’d be fighting every night. I didn’t want to end up like my married friends and family, always fighting over money. We agreed that he’d be in charge of all the finances and we’d talk about everything money-wise. A great compromise and it allowed me to be free from worrying about money.

The poem above speaks of our working through our money issues before we were married and it speaks to my heart again this morning. It’s tax time and we got hit with a huge tax bill (we did our taxes last night). We owe more money than we thought and it was a panic moment for me. But MR N knows me and calmed me down.

“It’s all going to be okay, my love.”

He came up with a plan and now we’re ready to take it on.

The power of love.

Love is powerful. Love is healing. Love can break through any obstacle and is stronger than anything imaginable.

Love one another without prejudice, ulterior motive or condition. Watch the power of love transform another life.

I am my Father’s Daughter… Happy Birthday Dad! #inspiration #love #MondayBlogs

father love

Today is my father’s birthday. If he was still alive, he’d be celebrating his 68th birthday. My thoughts are filled with him so I thought I’d talk about the greatest gift he’s ever given me.

From the time I was born, my father has sung me, “Shine On, You Crazy Diamond” by Pink Floyd. It’s our song, so to speak, and he always whispered in my ear:

“You’re my diamond, daughter, the very best the world has ever seen. Shine bright and let the world see your light.”

No matter what was going on in my life, he believed in me. When I messed up or failed miserably, he’d brush me off and tell me to keep moving forward. Even when people tried to keep us apart, my father stuck by and loved me. His last words before he died, I imagine, included me.

The greatest gift my father gave me was his unconditional love and belief in me.

Happy Birthday, Daddy! I know you’re looking down on me in Heaven and singing our song. I miss you so much my heart aches. Nothing can separate us now. I’m carrying on your legacy and keeping your memory alive.

Life is fleeting, people. Tell your loved ones how much they mean to you for you never know when they’ll be taken from you. Call, email, send a carrier pigeon, do whatever you can to let them know how much you love them.

Shine On, You Crazy Diamond

Remember when you were young,
You shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there’s a look in your eyes,
Like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire
Of childhood and stardom,
Blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!

You reached for the secret too soon,
You cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night,
And exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome
With random precision,
Rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

Daddy and me
