If You Liked #WonderWoman, You’ll Love Princess of the Light! #books #superhero #IARTG #ASMSG

Wonder Woman movie premiered over the weekend and women everywhere were inspired. Little girls came out of the movie theatres fired up and posing like Wonder Woman while grown women’s faces lit with an inner light I haven’t seen since Buffy the Vampire Slayer premiered on television back in the 1990’s. Women are clamoring for strong, female superheroes and it’s about time Hollywood responds.

Three years ago, we published Princess of the Light. Mary is just your everyday woman working in a bookstore, living her life, until archangel Gabriel announces she’s the Princess of the Light. Her purpose is to be the champion for the downtrodden and helpless. Sounds familiar, right?

We know we’re biased but we think fans of Wonder Woman will also love Princess of the Light. Here’s where you can buy your copy:

Here’s the description:

Mary’s the Princess of the Light but her only hope is to make a pact with her enemy.

Mary Miller receives a startling visitation from Gabriel, the Messenger of God. The Archangel reveals an astounding truth–Mary is the Princess of the Light and even more amazing, her destiny is to battle Lucifer’s army of demons and restore the balance of good and evil on Earth. It’s getting harder to fulfill her new role and keep her identity secret while juggling her personal life, and when Than, Lucifer’s second in command, amps up the attacks on her, she knows she needs help.

Joe Deacons is everything she’s ever wanted in a man. And as providence would have it, in a moment of great need, he’s the Warrior of Light–the one who can help her defeat the forces of darkness.

Not so simple when they confront Lisbeth, a demon hell-bent on usurping Than and Lucifer himself.  When Lisbeth wages war and several innocent people die, Mary must form an alliance with her enemy in order to destroy her.  But will this be a grave error or the choice that saves their world?

Here’s a scene to whet your appetite:

I had almost reached the pathway when I felt an ice-cold hand push me hard from behind. Falling forward and losing my footing, I put my arms forward to brace my fall. I landed with a thud and had scraped my hands and knees.

A sinister laugh from behind sent a chill down my spine.

I dusted myself off, stood up quickly and whirled to see the same hooded man that I saw earlier. Fear danced across my heart but I stood my ground.

The hooded man walked in a circle around me, all the while laughing in his low evil tone. This must be what a dying animal feels like when a vulture shows up before the life has actually slipped away.

Little girl, just what do you think you are doing?” My fear quickly changed to annoyance. This was the second time he called me little girl.

I’m a woman, not a little girl. I spent my whole life being told by far too many people that I was a girl and couldn’t do this or that. I had proved them all wrong, and now this evil… whatever he was, would be no different. I cocked my head to one side and said icily, “I am walking, sir. What are you doing, trying to make me dizzy?”

The hooded man stopped, raised an eyebrow and narrowed his eyes.

“I told you to leave him be,” He continued while I had his attention. “I made myself perfectly clear that you are to stay away.”

I mockingly raised an eyebrow in return and smiled to myself. He seemed perturbed that his glaring wasn’t working on me. I would use that to my advantage while I still had my wits about me.

“Do you make it a habit of pushing little girls around?” I sarcastically emphasized the disrespectful word choice. I wanted to egg him on and get him to reveal his true purpose.

It worked.

His brow furrowed as if he was trying to decide what to say or do next. “I push a lot of people around. I’m a demon, little girl.” He leered at me. No joke. As soon as the words were out of his mouth, I realized I had known that somewhere deep down from the first moment I noticed him.

“What’s your point? That you are a meaner, uglier class of bully?” I liked where this was going. If I used my senses, I could know his move before he made it. I guess my mother was right about the years of experience I had gotten from the debate club—I really could banter with the best of them.

“Now, listen here, we’re getting off-track.” He took a step closer. “Stay away from my mark! You don’t understand a thing. You think you’re the Princess… whatever that means.” He curled his lip and snarled.

“Who is your mark, that nice homeless man?” I pointed to in the direction of the trees and took a step closer. “Be very careful, demon. It’s not my name you should fear, but that of who gives me strength.” My voice was suddenly powerful and he took a step back.

“Yes. That Walking Man belongs to me and you’re interfering.”

I thought back to how the Light and darkness seemed to ebb and surge within André earlier. I still had a lot to learn, but I knew instinctively that a person’s soul was the true battleground of good and evil.

This man—the creature—in front of me was evil. Just as sure as I was of that, I was sure that I was, in fact, the Princess of the Light.

Light versus darkness… and André’s soul was the one at stake, not just mine.

“I’m where I’m supposed to be, according to the Light.” I stared him down. “He does not belong to you or me. This is the true battle.” I paused. “So, do you feel lucky?” I silently chuckled at the iconic Hollywood line. He didn’t seem to make the connection.

He shook his head and smirked. “Mary, I don’t want to fight you. I’m just trying to help you understand.” His silky voice tickled my ears but I wasn’t fooled by his attempt.

Maybe if I play along, he would reveal more, I reasoned and nodded for him to continue.

“There are things that you don’t know about your power and what’s in store.” He coyly looked at me like he was sharing a secret. “We’re actually on the same team. I’m just trying to help him see his error of the path he has chosen and to correct him.”

I saw right through his seduction and saw he wanted to deceive me. “So, let me get this straight… you’re not fighting me but you’re part of the Light? Is that it?”

His smile faltered, but he nodded anyway. “We’re on the same team, trying to help this poor man.”

“Well, then I think it’s time we prayed for him. Don’t you think?” I grinned as the hooded man paled. I sensed his fear and felt certain that the one thing demons could not do was pray. Praying would mean either giving in to the Light or, at the very least, having to face it. Since, they fear the Light most of all, I couldn’t see how that would be a viable option if he wasn’t telling the truth about his intentions.

Just as I expected, his smile disappeared as he realized I saw through him. His black eyes flashed with anger. “You think you have bested me, little girl. Not quite.”

He raised his arm with his palm aimed at me and spoke in what could only have been ancient language—Aramaic?

My eyes widened as a whirlwind of black smoke or dust flew out of his palm. So enamored with the sight, I almost didn’t realize it was headed straight for me. Without thinking, I lifted my palm to block the swirling vortex. Purple arrows flew out of my palm and destroyed the tornado.

Cool, I thought. I had destroyed whatever it was and glared at the hooded man. He was frozen as his—whatever it was—disappeared.

“Is that the best you’ve got for me, little evil boy?” I said, playing on his own mocking word choice. Then, I raised both of my palms in a defensive stance.

“You will regret this day, girl!” He lifted both arms up and began chanting again.

I took the opportunity to see if I could best him. The Light didn’t need incantations—its power was in its own source. I lifted my head and commanded, “Light, teach this evil little boy who I am!” Bolts of purple light immediately flew out of my palms and shot through the hooded man like swords of Light.

The hooded man screamed in pure agony and dropped his arms. He clutched at his stomach and tried to pull out the bolts of Light. As his hands touched the Light, they disintegrated into black dust. He screamed louder and louder until he was nothing but dust himself.

I looked on with near-disbelief as the Light had vaporized him. Yet, I could still sense him nearby and said with confidence, “Score one for the little girl.” I laughed and added as much for my benefit as for his, “That was lesson one.”

Wedding Season is Almost Here and Love #Poetry is in Bloom! #poems #ASMSG #IARTG

POL wedding

The wedding season is almost upon us and love is in the air. The bride and groom (bride/bride or groom/groom) are tending to last minute details while the guests are scrambling to find the perfect gift. I love this time of the year not for the wedding event per se but for the celebration of lifelong love. The marriage vows, not the wedding, are what matters.

What do the vows have to do with it? The vows a couple makes in front of friends, family, complete strangers and the Universe bind their love, devotion and commitment. The vows are the expression of their love, in poetry form.

On our wedding day, MR N and I agreed to write out our own vows. We wanted to express to our guests that we were committed to each other and that our unconditional love would last. This is the vow MR N recited:

On my wedding day, I’m honored to be here

In front of friends, family and God, with my soul mate by my side.

I often thought I’d walk the long road of life alone.

I was ready to give up on love, then the miracle happened, you came back to me.

Joelle, you’re my beautiful angel.

I’m so lucky and blessed this day, I’m marrying the girl of my dreams.

My heart’s beating so fast, I’m so full of love for you.

You’re my best friend, my soul mate, my life partner, for now and eternity.

I just want to thank you for being mine.

And thank God for letting me have this, my perfect dream come true.

You, Joelle, as my wife.

I love you.

Heart-felt words straight from one groom’s soul to his beloved bride. I’m sure many brides are emotional at their wedding but hearing those words come from the man I love, yup, I totally cried. But that’s okay, for they were tears of overflowing love; I just couldn’t hold it in.

Poetry, especially love poetry, is nothing more than emotions on a page. Poems don’t have to follow certain rules or format, just honest. So, go ahead and write down a poem to the one you love.

A toast to all the wedding couples:

May your love bind you, protect you, strengthen you

All the days of your lives.

Be your beloved’s partner in everything you do.

Love them with respect and honor.

Never go to bed angry.

Talk out everything and be honest yet caring.

Use your words to uplift but never tear down.

Accept your lover’s quirks and see the beauty within.

Walk this life together, holding hands, and nothing can separate you.

Title: Planting the Seeds of Love: A Novella

Author: N. N. Light

Genre: Contemporary Romance, New Adult, New Adult Romance

Blurb:

Torn between two men, Sally must follow her heart and decide if love will lead her to the city or the countryside.

Twenty-Two year old Sally Rayton returns to the family farm she deserted four years ago to bury her grandfather. Her plan: to settle her grandfather’s estate and return to her life in the city with her boyfriend, Trevor Mattson.

Her childhood friend, Jack Smith, has other ideas.

Jack convinces Sally to transform the farm into a brewery and fulfill her grandfather’s dream while keeping the Rayton Farm in the family. Sally works side-by-side with Jack while Trevor is hundreds of miles away in the city. The more time she spends with Jack, the stronger her feelings are for him.

When Trevor shows up to propose to Sally right before Christmas and finds her in Jack’s embrace, she must make the biggest choice of her life: true love.

Excerpt:

The next morning, Sally woke to the smell of sizzling bacon. She stretched in bed before putting on her robe. She glanced at the clock. It was already eight. She looked out the window. As far as she could see, snow covered everything like a warm glittering blanket. She hugged herself.

“So, this is what it means to be in love? I like it.”

She crept down the stairs, to see what Trevor was cooking. A smile lit her face and she sat in her grandpa’s rocking chair, watching Trevor in the kitchen. He wore a green plaid robe, his hair ruffled from sleep and there was a slight pillow crease across his left cheek. He flipped pancakes while whistling a classic rock song. She hugged her knees, reveling in her domestic bliss.

“I could get used to this,” she whispered.

He turned around and grinned.

“Good morning, beautiful. Want some coffee?”

She walked into the kitchen, giggling as if it was Christmas.

“It’s like I’m dreaming, what with you here, making breakfast.”

He handed her a mug of steaming coffee. She took a sip.

“Ahh, it’s just how I take it. Heavy cream and sugar.” She took another sip.

Trevor pulled her into his embrace.

“You are a vision in white, my angel.” He kissed her senseless. Her body responded and she burned with desire. She peppered kisses along his jawline.

“I want to go back to bed,” she whispered in his ear. She raked her teeth down his ear.

He moaned.

“You drive me crazy when you do that.” His hot breath searing her neck.

“Mmm…” she whispered.

He playfully slapped her butt.

“Vixen.”

She laughed seductively.

“Now go sit at the table and wait for breakfast.” He refilled her coffee. “Tsk tsk tsk, distracting the cook.” He winked.

Title: Thirsty for Water: A Short Story

Author: N. N. Light

Genre: Paranormal, Young Adult, Short Story

Book Blurb:

Juliet can’t wait to graduate from high school and finally move on with her life. Five more days and she’s free. She gazes out the window while her history teacher, Mrs. Johnson, drones on about war, famine and lack of water in Africa.

A gong rings, startling Juliet out of her daydream. She looks around to see if it was one of her classmates pulling a prank when a little boy carrying a spear appears. Is he a ghost or something more? He pleads for her help and before she can argue, she is transported to a small village in Africa. History comes alive like never before and Juliet must decide how she can help Noko and his village before it’s too late.

Thirsty for Water tells the story of Africa and the need for water in an approachable way for children of all ages. A great learning tool for teachers, parents and libraries.

Excerpt:

“How do you know my name?” She gasped and tried to pinch her arm.

“I know all about you.  My name is Noko.” He paused and reached out to touch her arm. “Why are you hurting yourself like that?”

His hand felt cool on her arm and she stopped. If he was a ghost, I wouldn’t be able to feel him.  This must be real… but how?  She reached up and touched his thumb with her index finger.  His skin was dry yet very real.

“I was m-m-making sure you were real.”  She leaned forward and whispered, “Why are you here?  What do you want with me?”

He took his hand away and smiled.  “Your elder there is talking about my country and all you can think about is getting out of here.  Where I come from, there is no school.  Children like me hunt, fish and work in the fields.  You are lucky to sit here all day and not work.”

She leaned back in her chair and thought about it.  No school, only working to survive.  It was a sobering thought and she shivered.

Praise for Thirsty for Water:

“I loved it. I had no idea just how short short would be when I started it, but what a lovely tale to teach & inspire! I feel strongly a connection being made always holds the best potential to calm, comfort & nourish, to move & inspire hope, to insight change or instill lessons. And for me, I feel any kind of travel…time travel, dimension travel (I’m a big fan of the Twilight Zone!), or even a story with a “real” trip involved always helps to create that connection somehow. It was THAT quick…& true…once Juliet felt a connection to Noko…it was a done deal! So beautiful. The story simple…& short…yet so powerful.” – Amazon Reviewer

Friday Book Round-Up Spotlight: Princess of the Light by @NNP_W_Light #99cents #FridayReads #books

Princess

Title: Princess of the Light

Author: N. N. Light

Genre: Paranormal Romance, Supernatural, Spiritual Romance

Tagline:

Mary’s the Princess of the Light but her only hope is to make a pact with her enemy.

Blurb:

Excerpt:

The whole way to Ronnie’s restaurant, I stared out the window and watched the scenery zoom by while I let my mind try to untangle what was going on. What had Gabriel meant? I sighed and then gritted my teeth. What was Lisbeth’s ultimate goal in all of this? What was everyone trying to gain?

I could feel the anger rise up in my chest and it took all of my strength to calm myself. I was the carrier of the Light and I must focus on the Truth. I knew that if I concentrated solely on Lisbeth, the Light would turn to darkness. I would be no better than a demon.

I closed my eyes and concentrated on the purple Light within me. Truth. Waves of Light seemed to pour out all over my skin. My heart was at peace. Opening my eyes, I noticed Joe staring at me.

“I am sorry that I have been quiet,” I said.

Joe watched the traffic for a while and then said, “Seemed like you needed to figure things out.” Joe paused. “Have you?”

I simply smiled in response.

The restaurant was only about two miles away and we could see the water in the distance.

A shiver ran up my spine as I saw smoke coming from the water. “Is someone having a bonfire?” I asked Joe, trying to sound casual.

I stared hard at the smoke and tried to shake off the uneasy feeling seizing my heart.

Suddenly, the darkness was lit by a huge red orange fireball and a building exploded. I screamed and Joe slammed on the brakes. Flames licked up into the sky, as we sat helplessly watching.

Soon, a litany of emergency vehicles veered around us to the scene of the explosion. Joe followed them.

I gripped the dashboard of the car tightly as screams of the victims echoed all around me. I closed my eyes and saw the flames burn through flesh.

The Bluefin Restaurant was on fire. The image of the little boy flashed before me, and I suddenly felt as powerless as I had so many months ago.

When we got out of the car, the vision we both saw months ago was reality. There was a gaping hole where the back kitchen had been. Flames blazed against, out, and over the front windows. The only place not afire was the wreckage that had been the kitchen.

Broken glass and building debris were everywhere. Charred-looking bodies were strewn all around—some alive and walking, others just empty shells.

Despair. Helplessness. Evil. The screaming filled my head.

Joe grabbed me and pulled me into his arms.

Mary, open your eyes! What are you saying?”

I was the one screaming. I let the tears fall as I whispered, “I have failed.”

Joe wiped my cheeks and shook his head.

“No! Mary, you have not failed. We need to help these people. Do you hear me? Use your Light and help these poor souls.”

Writing #InspirationalRomance With Heart Without Preaching Religion #99cents #FridayReads

christmas-wish-potl

“To produce a mighty book, you must choose a mighty theme.” – Herman Melville

When I sat down to write, Princess of the Light, I never intended on writing inspirational romance. I had just had a moving encounter with a homeless man and had all these thoughts running around in my head. I had to get them down on paper before they floated out of my head. Wait, I should probably start at the beginning.

Five years ago, I was out for my morning walk and I saw a homeless man sitting in front of a gas station. I looked at him, head uplifted to the sun smiling, and wondered what his story was. Why was he smiling? There was such a peace in his weathered face, I stopped walking and openly stared.  I watched him for a while and knew he was different from other homeless people.  He did not ask for money or hold up a sign. He kept to himself and avoided contact.

A voice suddenly entered my head, “What if you could help him? Would you? What if you were chosen to help him and others like him?”

I searched my heart and after a moment, I replied aloud, “Yes, I would.”

“This is what you were called to do.” The voice echoed in my heart.

I went home that very day and started writing. This simple encounter changed my life forever and inspired me to write Princess of the Light, an inspiring paranormal romance.

Writing inspirational romance can be tricky. I must admit I had some difficulty in the beginning. I wanted to inspire people to show kindness to people in their own city, especially those who are less fortunate and in need of food. I wanted to bring to light the hunger epidemic going on in America and Canada, two of the richest countries in the world. Nevertheless, I didn’t want to sound preachy.

The first thing I did was create a story of a woman who is destined to help someone like the homeless man I met. I wanted her to be strong and able to fight off the real and imagined demons tormenting a homeless man. Everyone likes a hero/heroine to root for and I made her female so I could relate to her.

The second thing I did was map out the homeless man and his story. I gave him a name and created a heart-breaking backstory for him. His story arc had to center on redemption and forgiveness, something everyone could relate.

The third thing I did was to write an edge of your seat novel with plenty of action. The story has action, adventure, romance, obstacles, battles, twists and turns. I wanted the reader to get lost in the story, not realizing they are being inspired.

Here are some writing tips I offer to writing inspirational romance:

  • Weave universal themes throughout your plot. You can be inspirational and reach a broader audience if you are universal. Every religion has many of the same morals and tenants to live by. Instead of mentioning specific religious names, use something more general. The main theme to Princess of the Light is Light versus Darkness. I use the term Light to convey spiritual goodness in a universal way. It does not matter what your spiritual belief is, you can relate to good versus evil.

  • Use everyday language. Being inspirational does not mean you have to sound intellectual or high and mighty. I have found when I write in modern English, I can reach more people than by using formal English.

  • Create real characters. I know this sounds like a no-brainer but stick with me for a minute. Creating characters who are human with flaws have a much bigger impact than having perfect-syndrome characters. Remember, you are trying to reach people. If the reader cannot relate to the main characters, they will not hear the message. They will scoff and mutter how that would never happen. Avoid this roadblock by putting your characters in a real situation and have them react in a natural way.

  • Consider donating part of the proceeds to a charity related to your book. Part of the proceeds of my book go directly to food banks and it’s something every reader can get behind. One of my characters is a homeless man and he relies on food banks. Homeless people all over the world need our help and when readers buy my book, they are helping those in need.

  • Never talk down to people. I cannot stress this enough, when writing inspirational, do not talk down to people. For as long as I can remember, I hated reading books where they preached at me about what I was doing wrong. Often, you can have a greater impact if you are on the same level as your reader. Use yourself as an example or if you are writing fiction, show your main character learning a valuable lesson.

  • Concentrate on the emotional arcs in your plot. Characters and circumstances inspire readers so let that be your focus. Ramp up the emotions in your reader by having your characters go through something. Part of my main character’s background is the emotional scarring from her father’s sudden death. It shapes who she is as a woman and explains her protectiveness over the Walking Man when battling the demons.

  • When writing non-fiction, be sure to do your research. With the birth of Wikipedia and Google, anyone can find out the truth about anything. Be historically accurate and be sure to give proper credentials.  There is nothing worse than reading about Joan of Arc and the weapon she uses isn’t invented for one hundred years after her death.

  • When writing a tell-all memoir, please consider changing the names to protect the innocent. We all have family skeletons, out of courtesy to your family while still being truthful, do the reader a favor, and change the names. Have some fun with it.  You will still be able to tell your story and inspire others; you just do not have to out your family to the world.

  • Consider using the journal/diary format for your story. I love the feel and intimacy of reading an inspirational diary. Even if it is fiction, this is a terrific way to tell your story. Everyone loves reading a diary and it draws the reader into the head of the main character so effectively.

  • Let the story tell itself. You have a story burning in your heart and the worst thing you can do is to get in the way of the story. Unleash the characters and let them use you to tell their story. Free yourself of your insecurities and fears. Do not worry if it is a good story or if you are a good writer. You are primarily a storyteller. Let the story be front and center; the rest of the details will work themselves out.

Writing inspiration is not complicated and anyone can do it. The key to writing a successful inspirational story without preaching is reaching people on an emotional level and showing them they can make a difference in their own corner of the world. Helping others is a characteristic inherent in every human being as is spreading the Light.

Excerpt:

I sunk into the water, and let the suds and scent of lavender engulf me.  The stress of the day finally began to melt away.

My body jolted.

I was in the middle of the desert. There were grass huts and women with hajjis walking quickly around me. Something whizzed past my ear, and a deafening explosion rocked me off my feet. I instinctively curled my body in a fetal position.

I listened for the screams to start, but it was eerily silent. I glanced around, but all I saw was water.

I was still in the bath. What had just happened? Was that a vision? Had I fallen asleep?

My headache was a dull thud now.

A knock on the washroom door made me gasp. I sat upright in the tub and heard my roommate, Amber, call in, “Mary, are you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m good. Just must have fallen asleep.”

“Hey, Amber, what time is it?” I looked down at my pruney fingers and wondered how long I was in the tub.

Amber said, “It’s five thirty.”

I leaned forward and turned on the hot water. The bath water had gotten cold while I had drifted off.

I leaned back as the warm water ran over my toes and closed my eyes, wondering what I should wear tonight. I wanted to look beautiful for Joe. I began to picture every outfit in my closet, and tried to imagine his reaction to it.

A shiver ran down my back and I faintly hear the water splash over the edge.

I opened my eyes and tried to scream. All that came out was a reverse gasp, and I pulled my towel in to cover my body.

A small child was in the tub with me. He couldn’t be older than five. Blood was running down his face, and his body was covered in sand mixed with congealing blood. He was clinging to my towel, and I didn’t know whether to let go of it or yank it back from him. His dark hair was wet with fresh blood. My heart filled with sadness and I quit trying to scream.

As I clung to my own towel, I didn’t know what was happening or what I should do.

The little boy raised his head and more sadness poured into my heart. His eyes were dark pools of grief and despair. They pleaded with me, begging me to help.

How? I mouthed silently.

I jumped when he began to move slowly toward me. He lifted one arm and spoke in a language I didn’t recognize. I knew I didn’t know exactly what his words meant, but I knew what he was saying: He was hurt and needed help.

The closer he came, the more my fear eased and the pain increased. He reached for my arm. His hand was bloodied, and it sent a jolt of electricity and agony throughout my body. I tried to pull away, but his grip was locked on my arm. His eyes turned black and murky, and a voice not his own spoke.

“Princess, help my people,” it said.

I shook my head.

“Let go!” I tried to scream again.

The little boy disappeared, and I jumped out of the bathtub, wet towel still wrapped around my body, and crumbled to the floor. The blood was smeared all around me, and I looked at my arm. The blood was still there, too.

I whimpered, scrubbed at my arm until it was raw, and yet I could still see the blood.

Princess of the Light: A Success Story and a Sale! #POTL #99cents #TuesdayBookBlog

potlbanner

The story behind Princess of the Light is one that fascinates people and I never get tired talking about it.  Simply put, a homeless man in our town inspired us to write Princess of the Light.  I don’t know his name and I have moved to a different area of town so I don’t see him every day.  I call him the Walking Man because that is exactly what he does.  He doesn’t beg for money or hold up a sign.  He walks the length of the town I live in.

The first time I saw him I literally stopped in my tracks.  There was something about him that made me pause.  Maybe it was the fact that it was the middle of winter and here he was sitting on the curb smiling up at the sun.  He didn’t have a care in the world and the heat of the sun’s rays on his weathered face gave him joy.

I wondered who he was and what his story was.  He was someone’s son, brother, father, uncle.  What happened in his life to bring him to this point?

I went about my day but my thoughts were filled with questions about him.  Could I help him?  What if I had the power to help him?

The seed started growing and Princess of the Light was born.  As the days went by and I observed the Walking Man, I started showing him kindness.  I smiled and said good morning.  I left food, blankets and clothing for him.  With every action, I started to notice a change in him.  It was like he was no longer the forgotten man; he mattered.

So what’s the success story, you may be asking yourself?

The Walking Man is no longer homeless. Through your support of N. N. Light’s website and buying our books, we took that money, donated it to food banks and local homeless charities. We prayed every day for him and spread awareness about his plight. We supported our local government who built an apartment complex to get the homeless off the street. The Walking Man, we’re thrilled to announce, is living in an apartment and a contributing member of our community once again. He’s healthy, happy and the living embodiment of Light. Such a miracle and perfect for this time of the year.

With Easter, Passover and Spring right around the corner, I want to share this message of hope and rebirth with you. It’s never too late. YOU can make a difference and change your little corner of the world.

Spreading the Light is more than a fun catch phrase; it can be a reality.  Every town, city and country has people like the Walking Man.  They’re forgotten by society and the governments.  They’re in the dark.  Let’s spread our Light around the world and make these people matter.

Get your copy of Princess of the Light today and 100% of the proceeds go to help the homeless. Let’s create more success stories…

Excerpt:

Marie furrowed her brow and softly interrupted, “André is the Walking Man?”

I looked at Marie and asked, “You’ve heard of him?”

Marie nodded. “Of course. He is a staple of the Downtown area. There are a few groups I’m affiliated with that hand out food and clothing to those in need. He never comes to these events so I leave them by the area where he sleeps.” She paused, thoughtfully. “I just can’t believe that it is André.”

Joe cleared his throat and looked at his father. “What happened to André?”

Alfred sighed and after a moment said, “It really was the fault of that witch he was married to. She and her family treated him horribly. She was a gold digger and all she cared about was money and the prestige.”

Marie interrupted Alfred by saying, “I remember her. She was so mean to André and all she cared about was looking rich. Wealth is a gift—she just wanted it for a toy. She treated André so badly… and his mother-in-law was the worst. She would put him down all the time. In front of other people, no less.”

Alfred continued, “André was a good man and worked hard. He was working on a big project for the city. He worked night and day on the project and told me it was going to put Golden Lake on the map.

“He absolutely adored his daughter, too. I remember that clearly. She was his everything.” Alfred paused, apparently lost in his thoughts. With a sigh he said, “There was a scandal with the project, though, and André got fired. Soon after, Dara left him, took Katherine with her and André fell apart. He started drinking heavily and, without his daughter, his life fell apart.”

Joe looked at me and I fought to keep from throwing my hand over my mouth. There was purple fire in his eyes and I felt his anger. I already knew the story of André and I tried to smile at him.

I smelled burning flesh. Joe flashed in full armor fighting demons with a golden sword.

I gasped at the vision and brought my hand to my chest in shock feeling the key necklace, before I could stop the physical reaction. The necklace weighed heavily as did my heart. He would be fighting at my side soon.

Marie asked, “Are you okay, dear?”

Joe turned to look at his mother. He nodded and only said, “I never knew any of this.”

Alfred continued, “I am sorry, son, but you asked for the truth. This is what I know. André was sleeping at the office and drinking all the time. He was supposed to give a presentation to a client and was drunk. He got into a scuffle with his boss and rumor has it, André punched him.”

I feigned shock and said, “Oh my!”

Than is to blame. I don’t know how I know or what happened but I vow to the Lord that I will make Than pay, thought Joe.

I choked and almost spit out my drink. I just heard Joe’s thoughts! I had to set him straight and right away.

I cleared my throat and said awkwardly, “Joe, I think I left something in the car.”

Joe looked at me with eyebrows raised. “Excuse me, we’ll be right back,” I said with a smile.

I walked outside and knew that Joe was right behind me. When I reached the car, I whirled and said in a stern tone, “Are you trying to get yourself killed?”

Joe stopped mid-step and said, “What are you talking about, Mary?”

I ran into his arms and whispered, “You cannot take on Than by yourself! I heard your thoughts in there. Now, I don’t know how you know that it was Than who drove André to punching his boss but please promise me that you will not get revenge.”

I paused to catch my breath and remembered what Gabriel told me. “Joe, in order to defeat the darkness and not become dark ourselves, we need to have a pure heart. We are filled with the Light and our motives must always be to speak the Truth and spread the Light.”

Joe took several deep breaths while he held me. He stroked my hair and whispered, “I’m sorry, my angel. I didn’t mean to frighten you and you are right. It was just a momentary thought.”

I lifted my head and locked eyes with Joe. Tears filled my eyes but I was determined. I bit at my top lip and then whispered, “Promise me you won’t put yourself in harm’s way.” Hot tears spilled down my cheeks.

Joe wiped at them and said in a deep, reassuring tone, “I promise, Mary. I promise I won’t be a hothead and I won’t be rash.” Then, he laid his forehead on mine and whispered, “Please don’t cry, darling. Please.”

I nodded and whispered, “I would die if I lost you. Than will use you to try to get to me. You are my love, my everything.” My voice cracked. “I would die if I lost you,” I repeated.

Joe shook my shoulders a little and looked deep into my eyes. “Listen to me, Mary, you will never lose me! Do you hear me? I am by your side now and forever.”

Overcome with emotion, Joe kissed me.

Title: Princess of the Light

Author: N. N. Light

Genre: Paranormal Romance, Supernatural, Spiritual Romance

Tagline:

Mary’s the Princess of the Light but her only hope is to make a pact with her enemy.

Blurb:

Excerpt:

“Can I help you with something, sir?” The woman’s voice quivered slightly and she leaned a little, as if she suddenly needed the wall for support.

Whoa, I couldn’t help but think. I frankly felt like a moth to the flame. All I wanted to do was have a reason to get closer to her. The fact that her eyes seemed to shine with an actual light didn’t help matters. I had never felt such an automatic attraction before and I wanted to lean closer and see what was going on with her eyes.

She was either looking at me like I was the only man in the world—and quite possibly the sexiest one—or else my open gawking had freaked her out. Either way, I couldn’t have told her which it was, because my mouth was dry as a cotton ball container.

“Yes,” I managed to rasp to her. “Where is your Architecture section?”

“Are you looking for anything in particular?” Yes. You, I wanted to say. “I could look to see if it is in stock.” Oh. Are there more of you somewhere?

The sound of her voice was starting to make my heart pound. She had an earthly beauty about her. There was nothing extraordinary in her features, yet something about her just seemed to glow.

I felt my breath quicken. Joe, what’s the matter with you? Get a grip. You’ve seen girls before.

I shook my head to clear my thoughts without worrying what I looked like and said, “Please forgive my manners, but what is your name?”

“Mary.” That just became my favorite name.

“I’m very pleased to meet you,” I said as I extended my hand to her. “I’m Joseph. Please call me Joe.”

She hesitated for a moment before she shook my hand. Electricity bolted up my arm that I wasn’t prepared for. I wondered if she could hear my heart beating. Pretty sure these emotions weren’t winning me any bro-code points.

Her face flushed and her eyes brightened with interest. Let go of her hand, Joe, I tried to coach myself. If I didn’t let go of it soon, I might never be able to.

This #ValentinesDay N. N. Light Shares Their Courtship and More #books #amwriting #IARTG

couple N N Light

A week ago, we were featured on Indie Publishing Group and they sat us down for an in-depth interview. We loved it and wanted to share it with you on Valentine’s Day. Don’t forget to scroll down to the bottom to see our latest release at a great price!

This Week’s Feature Author Interview with N. N. Light

Hi N. N. Light, welcome to the Indie Publishing Group website. Introduce yourself to us. Tell everyone who you are, where you’re from, what do you enjoy doing, hobbies and interests.

N. N. Light is the bestselling husband-wife writing team, commonly known as Mr. N and Mrs. N. Mrs. N. has been creating stories ever since she was little. Her grandfather remembers when she was two years old, she would stand at the top of the stairs and tell him a story filled with emotion (and in a language foreign to him) with her hands on her hips. Let’s just say she was a born storyteller.

We’re blissfully happy and love all things chocolate, books, music, movies, art, sports, trains, history, cooking and baking. Our mantra is to spread the Light and we talk about what that means every day on our blog.

Most of the time you can find us on Twitter (our favorite social media platform) or getting new ideas on how to spread the Light on Pinterest. We’re a proud member of ASMSG and Independent Author Network.

In addition to being authors, we’re also book promoters/reviewers, social media marketers/influencers and the owners of N. N. Light Author Promotions. We both love books, have ever since we were young. Matching up books and readers is something that gives us great pleasure.

When did you start writing and why?

Mrs. N: I’ve been writing and telling stories ever since I was little. Writing was my best friend and my confidante growing up. I poured my heart and soul into my writing and those who I let read my stories wanted more. After I graduated from college, the real world intruded and I entered the publishing world as a bookseller and bookstore manager. Writing took a backseat and it wasn’t until after I married Mr. N that I started writing my stories. He encouraged me to quit my job and write full-time. Together, we became N. N. Light.

Mr. N: It’s true, what my beloved says. After several years working as a chef in the restaurant industry, I was burned out and needed a change. A new career and higher pay meant she could concentrate on what she’s wanted most: to write and publish her stories. We work so well together that writing as a team is second nature and through the process, I discovered I had the talent for writing, too.

Which is your favorite book you have written and what gave you the idea for it?

Princess of the Light. It’s our debut novel and it’s the one closest to our hearts. Here’s the story behind it as told by Mrs. N:

Four years ago, I was out for my morning walk and I saw a homeless man sitting in front of a gas station.  I looked at him, head uplifted to the sun, and wondered what his story was.  I hadn’t seen him before and knew instantly he was different from other homeless people.  He didn’t ask for money or holdup a sign.  He walked the length of our town and avoided contact.

A voice entered my head, “What if you could help him?  Would you?  What if you were chosen to help him and others like him?”

I stopped walking and searched my heart.  After a moment, I replied aloud, “Yes, I would.”

The voice echoed in my heart, “This is what you were called to do.”

I went home that day and started writing Princess of the Light.  Every day I would see the Walking Man and as Mary would help her Walking Man, I would help mine.  I started small by smiling at him and saying “good morning”.  The simple acknowledgement didn’t seem like a big deal to me but every time I did it, his face lit up and he nodded back to me.

I soon got my husband involved and we started leaving food, clothing and blankets for him. I promised myself that when my book got published, part of the proceeds would go to helping people like the Walking Man find food, clothing and shelter.

Our book is available at Amazon and we’re keeping our promise. Part of the proceeds of Princess of the Light goes directly to food banks in order to feed the hungry and help those in need. With only 7,500 books sold, we will be able to set up a monthly endowment for the local food bank.

We’re currently writing the sequel to Princess of the Light and will fingers crossed be available in late 2017/early 2018.

How did you come up with the title for your book?

The title was pretty easy as that is what Mary is (Princess of the Light) and she’s been chosen to fight Lucifer’s army of demons and restore Light to all.

Who helped you with the cover? Or did your design it yourself? What was your inspiration for your cover design?

Our cover artist is French (Erica Petit) and she really nailed it. We wanted a powerful cover to convey the strength and badassery of Mary.

What are some of the themes of your story?

There are several themes going on in this paranormal inspirational romance.

First, there’s the calling of Mary. She’s leading a double-life and it’s imperative she balance her normal life with her Princess life. Sometimes they overlap and she must deal with whatever happens.

Second theme is the romance between Mary and Joe. While it seems like a chance meeting, it’s part of a bigger plan. Mary and Joe must overcome quite a bit and all while battling dark forces and an ex-fiancée.

Third theme is the transformation of a homeless man called The Walking Man. He’s the lost soul, tortured beyond recognition by Than (Lucifer’s second in command). When Mary and Joe decide to show kindness to The Walking Man, realization hits too close to home for Joe. Forgiveness, redemption, spiritual warfare all play their part in this story. We wanted to show readers that simple acts of kindness and understanding to those less fortunate can have a huge impact.

Have you got anything you’re working on now?

We’re working on a few projects. We’re writing the sequel to Princess of the Light. We’re writing an alternative history book (Mr. N is the pointman on this project as it’s his creation) as well as a new adult romance. We’re also putting together the sequel to our love poetry collection as well as an inspirational thought book.

If you could have any super powers what would they be?

Time travel. Both of us lost our dads when we were young and we’d give just about anything to go back in time and relive time with our dads.

Thanks so much for taking the time to do an author interview. Take a minute and check N. N. Light out on the links below!

Title: Poetry of Love: The Engagement Year

Author: N. N. Light

Genre: Poetry, Love Poetry

Book Blurb:

Amazon #1 Best-Seller and Hot New Release

I had been searching for love my whole life. It took the opening up of the world via technology for me to find my soulmate. Once I laid eyes on her, at the arrivals gate, I knew I was never going to let her go. The following is a collection of poems I wrote to my angel, from our first meeting up until our wedding day. I was working crazy hours as a chef and I had a long commute. I chose my commuting time to pen her a poem each day. These poems speak of our life, our challenges and our growth together…in every aspect they speak of our love.

May this book give someone the courage to let their special someone know how much they care for them and how much they mean to them. Saying I love you is a gift you can give many times a day.

Excerpt:

Our Love

Our love exists in so many ways

Even when parted I feel you

I long for your gaze

Knowing our love is true.

When in the heaven of your arms

I feel our love’s warmth surround me.

Your grace, beauty and charm

Leave me gasping breathless in serenity.

The pureness, sweetness and sincerity

Our so perfect love

Oft compels me to my knees

To thank our Lord above

For our love.

Sally From Planting the Seeds of Love Sits Down With MRS N #romance #ASMSG #IARTG

PTSOL

Mrs. N: It’s my great pleasure to introduce you to one of my favorite characters, Sally Rayton. She’s the leading lady in Planting the Seeds of Love: A Novella.

Sally: For Pete’s sake, you’re going to have them think I’m a celebrity, like Kristin Kreuk. I’m just a normal girl trying to figure out what I want to do with my life.

Mrs. N: This was your idea, Sally. Now’s not the time to be modest. These fine readers want to know more about you. (pauses to look down) Now then let’s start with the first question. What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Sally: Hmm, I used to think that opening my own café in the city, away from the Rayton Farm and all the gossipers, was my idea of happiness.

Mrs. N: And now?

Sally: Now, I’m conflicted. I mean, on one hand I have Trevor and life with him in the city is perfect. We make the perfect couple and both have our sights set on becoming a success in the city. But then there’s Jack…

Mrs. N: Ah yes, Jack, the sexy boy next door who’s loved you since you were little.

Sally: (rolls eyes) You always bring that up. Yes, Jack’s my best friend and I guess he could be considered sexy, although I don’t see him that way.

Mrs. N: You don’t?

Sally: Well… maybe a little. (clears throat nervously) Can we move onto the next question?

Mrs. N: Sure… What is your greatest fear?

Sally: Oh, that’s easy, ending up like my sister. My sister got pregnant when she was fifteen, ran away from home with the Mayor’s son and hasn’t been heard of since.

Mrs. N: Why is that a fear of yours?

Sally: You should realize that since my sister was six years older than me, the gossipers reminded me on a daily basis what a disappointment she became and an embarrassment to the Rayton name. See, we’re one of the oldest families in the county and well-respected. But my sister messed up and people used her misfortune to make themselves feel better. I vowed when I was fifteen, I would NEVER allow people to talk that way about me.

Mrs. N: Good for you. You’re a strong woman and I admire that trait in you. What is the trait you most deplore in others?

Sally: I hate liars. I’m a big girl. I’d much rather someone speaks the truth to me than lie. I guess I learned that from my grandfather. I remember when I was about six years old, I chased rabbits into the woods behind the barn. I knew I wasn’t allowed back there but I did it anyway. When it was time for supper, my grandfather asked me where I’d been. I lied and told him I was off playing in the wheat field. He scolded me for not only going back into the woods (which he saw from the barn window) but lying about it. “Never lie, Sally, especially to me. It’s the worst thing you can do.” I never forgot and adopted his view on lying.

Mrs. N: I already know the answer to this next question. What is your greatest extravagance?

Sally: Oooh, my books. I love books and have a nice collection of leather-bound classics. Trevor gave me a first-edition of one of my favorite books and it was the nicest birthday present I’ve ever received.

Mrs. N: How lovely. That must’ve cost him a pretty penny. First editions are expensive but even more so in hardcover.

Sally: I don’t know how much it cost but evidentially he thought I was worth it.

Mrs. N: No need to be defensive, dear. I was merely pointing out a fact.

Sally: I’m sorry, I’m a little touchy when it comes to money.

Mrs. N: It’s okay, I know how much Trevor means to you. Let’s move on to the last question. If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be?

Sally: (Laughs) You’ll think it’s funny but I’d love to come back as a bunny. They’re soft, fluffy and hop around the garden finding food to nibble on. Think Peter Cottontail, that’s me.

Mrs. N: (Laughs) Only it would be Sally Cottontail in your case. Thank you, Sally, for sitting down for a few moments and chatting with me.

Sally: It was my pleasure.

Mrs. N: If you’d like to find out more about this fascinating love triangle (Sally, Trevor and Jack), now is a great time to purchase Planting the Seeds of Love: A Novella.

Excerpt:

“Jack, thank you so much for the lift into town,” a woman replied behind Sally. “Let’s grab some lunch before we shop.”

Sally froze. She stared at Linda who shook her head. What was Jack doing with a woman in town?

“Here, let me take your coat, Emma,” Jack said.

Emma? mouthed Sally to Linda.

“She’s the daughter of Lonnie and Mary Beth.” Linda gave Emma the look-over and scoffed, “She can’t be a day over sixteen.”

“What do I do?” Sally panicked. Normally she didn’t care what Jack did or who he went off with. Curiosity got the better of her and she turned around.

Emma stood five foot three with curly blonde hair and innocent green eyes. Her figure was slim with curves in all the right places. Sally narrowed her eyes as Emma stood on tiptoe to kiss Jack on the cheek.

Fuming, Sally turned around. Linda chuckled.

“What?”

“You better tone down your jealousy, darlin’. You’re shooting darts everywhere.”

Sally gritted her teeth.

“I’m not jealous. If Jack wants school girls kissing him, what do I care?” She took a deep drink of her coffee, draining the cup. She slammed it down.

“Simmer down, here they come,” whispered Linda. She waved to Jack while Sally swore under her breath.

“Well, fancy meeting you two here,” Jack drawled.

Without looking up Sally retorted, “I told you I was coming into town today.”

Linda kicked Sally’s leg under the table. Sally plastered a smile across her face, greeting Jack and Emma.

“Yes, what a coincidence.” Sally noticed Emma looping her arm in Jack’s and snuggling closer.

“I was on my way into town to pick up those parts we ordered for the tractor when I ran into Emma walking by herself in the snow.” Jack smiled. Emma squeezed his arm.

“He pulled over and offered me a lift into town. Isn’t he a gentleman?” cooed Emma. Jack patted her hand.

Sally’s chest constricted at the sight of the two of them acting all couple-y. She stared into his twinkling eyes. Oh God, is he laughing at me? Emma can’t have him. He’s mine. Wait what?

“So,” Linda broke the strained silence. “I have to go powder my nose. Emma, would you care to join me?”

“What’s that?” Emma looked confused.

Linda laughed. “It’s the bathroom, dear sweet child.” She stood up, untangled Emma from Jack and guided Emma away from the table.

Jack sat down.

“What’s with you today?” he asked.

“Nothing.” Sally cleared her throat.

He raised an eyebrow.

“Really!” A few diners turned to stare. Sally flushed with embarrassment. She didn’t mean to talk so loud. She looked everywhere except in Jack’s direction.

Jack observed Sally as she fidgeted, first with her coffee cup then with the silverware. His gaze unnerved her and she practically jumped out of her chair when he placed a hand over hers. Electricity flew up her arm while warmth filled her core. Butterflies raced around her stomach, only she didn’t feel sick; she pulsed with life, like never before.

“Sally…look at me.”

Sally shook her head.

“You’ll only laugh at me.”

Jack’s thumb caressed her hand gently, causing her breath to hitch.

“You know I’d never laugh at you. Laugh with you, definitely, but never at you.”

Sally lifted her gaze to meet Jack’s loving eyes. He slid his fingers between hers, never breaking eye contact. Sparks flew between them. He moistened his lips with a flick of his tongue. Her gaze dropped to his lips.

“Please tell me. I’m begging you,” he whispered.

Unable to think clearly through the fog of desire, Sally tilted her head to one side. Her skin vibrated with heat while her nerve-endings jumped at the slightest caress.

“Tell you what?” she whispered. Her throat dry, her breathing shallow, she wet her lips with her tongue. She was under a spell and everything fell away except for Jack’s passionate eyes.

“Tell me what my wasted heart needs to hear.” His eyes flashed. “Tell me Emma made you jealous.”

Sally started to nod but Emma interrupted.

“What are you guys talking about in hushed tones? Crops and stuff?”

Jack groaned. He dropped Sally’s hand as if it burned him, causing the water glasses to jostle.

Nine Quirky Facts Mrs. N Doesn’t Want You to Know #ASMSG #IARTG #AmWriting

nine-quirky-facts

Mr. N here, Mrs. N is off working today (and doing a superb job, too) so I thought it would be the perfect time to spotlight my beloved. Mrs. N is a gifted writer and at times, she’s too shy to toot her own horn. So, as her soul mate and writing partner, I’m qualified to do it for her. 😉 Shhh, just don’t tell her. It’ll have to be our little secret.

The first story I ever wrote was about a princess who escaped her ivory tower and became best friends with a purple dragon named Patsy. I know, the name could use work and I was a rebel even back then. I wrote it for English class and got an A+. Ahhh, my first review. 🙂

I have a hard time writing in the company of others. That’s why I can’t write in a coffee shop or surrounded by people. I feel self-conscious and my muse shuts down. I have to be alone with no prying eyes peeking over my shoulder.

I get distracted easily. Thus, no television on but music is a must for my writing environment. If there is something that catches my eye, I have to force myself back to my writing. Otherwise, procrastination takes hold and I’ll never get anything done.

I free-write a lot. I talk about the freedom and flooding of ideas that happens every time I free-write. The act of just letting my fingers do the talking is one of the best ways my characters emerge.

When I was 16, I won first prize in a poetry contest paying tribute to our veterans. I won $50 and invited to be on a float. I spent the money on books and politely declined to appear on the float (painfully shy).

I use life experiences to create real, honest characters in my writing. I’m a firm believer that life is filled with inspiration.

Planting the Seeds of Love: A Novella is my first foray into contemporary romance. I’ve been a reader of romance since I was twelve and the pressure was on. I normally write paranormal romance but I loved writing this novella. Sally’s story flowed out of me faster than I could write it down.

I got caught up in the “proper way” of writing almost two years ago and as a result, lost my writing fire. I listened to a few people who told me I was doing it wrong. The thing is, each writer has his/her own writing style and I have my own way of telling a story. It’s what makes me unique. I’m happy to say that I am back to writing in my own style and happier than I’ve ever been!

I write flash fiction and poetry as a warm-up to writing a novel/novella. I start with a writing prompt and let my muse take over. It gets the ideas flowing and my fingers write faster than I can keep up. I then keep them for later book ideas. Planting the Seeds of Love: A Novella came from a flash fiction story I wrote back in March 2015.

A few bonus facts:

I love to read books. It’s a passion of mine and I continue to discover new authors.

I love to bake goodies and my new favorite thing is to add boxed chocolates to brownie batter and bake. It adds such a depth of chocolate flavor and sophistication.

I’m a happy positive person, most of the time. Sometimes I get frustrated and tired but then I give myself a shake and am happy again.

Excerpt:

Jack looked where she pointed.

“Sally…” he began.

“Yes?”

“Are you planning on selling it when the farm’s made a profit?”

Sally sighed.

He turned her body around, his gaze penetrating hers.

“I don’t know,” she whispered. “I know Grandpa wanted me to keep it in the family.” She furrowed her brow. “I’m not a country girl; my heart belongs to the city.”

“Hey, it’s okay.” He moved a step closer. “Farming is hard work and you have to love it to make it successful.” He put a hand on her shoulder. “Don’t beat yourself up for following your heart.”

Sally winced.

“What?”

“Jack, I’m not sure what my heart wants. Part of me loves being here, carrying on the family name.”

“But…” Jack raised an eyebrow warily.

“But I have a life in the city. I’ve almost finished my degree –”

“You have Trevor,” Jack interrupted her. He shook his head.

“What’s wrong with that? Yes, I have a life and a boyfriend in the city. I’ve told you a thousand times my dream is to open my own sidewalk cafe.” She folded her arms over her chest. “Don’t you want me to be happy, Jack?” Her voice sounded hurt, even to her own ears.

He closed his eyes and rubbed his forehead.

“This isn’t going how I wanted it to.” He glanced up at her. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to imply anything. It’s just –”

“What?” Sally cocked her head to one side.

The telephone rang inside.

“Shit, I have to go answer it. I’ll be right back.” She ran into the house.

“Hello?”

“Hi beautiful.” Trevor.

“I Felt Very Good After Reading Princess of the Light” New 5* Review #ASMSG #IARTG #Books

potlbanner

A brand new review of Princess of the Light has popped up on Amazon and we couldn’t be more thrilled! Take a moment and read this comprehensive review:

“Granted I am not a usual reader of this type of book. But if anything has the word paranormal attached to it, I obsessively give it the once over. And in this case, I’m glad I did. I was attracted to the cover of this book when it first popped up in my “People who brought this book also brought this” list. I was actually on the lookout for something new and different to read, so I took a chance and ordered a copy. Admittedly, it took a little bit to get into it, as I am not a big romance reader, but when the action starts, and it doesn’t take too long for that to happen, hold on to your hat, or in this case, your Halo!

Good versus evil, fallen angels, vengeful demons and devils causing mayhem and death here on earth and then fighting humans transformed into angelic warriors, Mary Miller, AKA, the Princess of the Light and her love interest, Joe Deacons. Plus, the, or rather THE Angel Gabriel is also a central character in this story. He acts as both mentor and spiritual guide to Mary and Joe who have been chosen to battle Satan’s dark forces. They do this through the power of prayer and sword and sorcery type weapons. There are also plenty of twists and turns in the story to keep you guessing, including an unlikely alliance that only adds more intrigue leading up to the final sword swinging, axe wielding, purple flame, demon burning battle. And I’m not going to reveal the surprise ending, but it adds a nice touch.

There are some minor flaws in the continuity here and there, but nothing that interferes with the narrative. Overall, I felt very good after reading The Princess of the Light. Sort of the same feeling one gets from watching a Hallmark Channel Movie. Besides being a Paranormal Romance, I would also consider it to be a fine example of modern Christen literature as well. Out of curiosity, I visited the Author’s website to find out more about them and was pleased to learn that they donate a portion of all their sales to their local food bank through an endowment. Yet another good reason to feel good about this book.

Enjoy!” — Reviewer Bernieo from Amazon

It’s honest readers like this that makes us grin from ear to ear. This is why we write and why we publish our stories. It’s all for our readers.

N. N. Light’s Collection of Book Reviews A – Z! #bookreview #books #TuesdayBookBlog

a-to-z-book-reviews

A- Angels Everywhere by Debbie Macomber. This is actually two full novels in one.  The first story is called A Season of Angels.  It is the story of three angels named Shirley, Goodness and Mercy and their inspiring assignments.  Gabriel is short-staffed and has appointed Shirley, Goodness and Mercy to help three people in time for Christmas.  A funny yet touching story about three people trying to find what they desire most, with the help of some wacky angels! A great read and perfect for Christmastime.  The second story is called Touched by Angels.  The same 3 angels are sent down to New York City to help 3 people discover what a miracle really is.  Honestly, I preferred the first story to the second but both are excellent together!

B- Bloodline by Fiona Mountain. This book is an amazing mystery filled with twists and turns that you didn’t see coming.  The main character is Natasha Blake and she is a genealogist by trade.  She uncovers people’s ancestors and her latest client is quite mysterious.  He wants a family tree done on his granddaughter’s boyfriend.  What she uncovers leads to his mysterious death and Natasha must help the police find the true killer before the killer finds her.  A true British mystery and a must-read!

C- Confessions of a French Baker: Breadmaking Secrets, Tips & Recipes by Peter Mayle and Gerard Auzet. From the author who wrote “A Year in Provence” comes a small yet impactful book detailing the secrets of French bakers.  Gerard Auzet is a friend of Peter’s who has been making bread since he was a boy.  In fact, his family has been making bread in the countryside of Provence for several generations.  This book is a must-read for all bakers and for anyone who has enjoyed the sheer pleasure of authentic French bread and baguettes.

D- D-Day June 6, 1944: The Climatic Battle of World War II by Stephen E. Ambrose.  Beyond debate this is THE book on D-Day.  There never needs to be another one written.  Ambrose wrote this definitive history in 1994.  He painstakingly takes the reader from the who and what was involved, how it was planned, set up, the complete story of every aspect of the greatest invasion in history.  You get the real feel for what happened and what sacrifices the greatest generation made to keep our world safe and free.  At least in the 20th century.  Safe and free are relative terms these days.  A must read for those who do not fully understand what D-Day was and a must re-read.  A book that needs to be kept close on your shelf of favourite books.

E- Eating Pomegranates: A Memoir of Mothers, Daughters and the Breast Cancer Gene by Sarah Gabriel.  A heart-wrenching memoir detailing her experience with breast cancer (first with her mother and then with her own).  A funny-at-times-yet tragic account of what it feels like to deal with breast cancer.  I think every woman in the world needs to read this book.

F- The Floating Admiral by The Detection Club (including Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers and G. K. Chesterton). In 1931 a group of 12 mystery writers including Agatha Christie came together and published this book.  They called themselves The Detection Club and each of them was responsible for writing a chapter and also the conclusion in a sealed envelope.  It was a hit in the 30’s and they re-released it 80 years later.  I love Agatha Christie and thought this would be a brilliant book.  Boy was I disappointed!  It was disjointed, not very well written and the characters aren’t very believable.  I would NOT recommend it!!!

G- Garlic and Sapphires: The Secret Life of a Critic in Disguise by Ruth Reichl.  A fun and insightful book on the hidden life of a food critic.  Ruth Reichl shares with us in honest prose her experience moving from Los Angeles to New York and how she turned the food critic world upside down.  A must read for any foodie and a brilliant read for anyone who wants an inside glimpse into the New York Restaurant scene.

H- Heavy Losses – The Dangerous Decline of American Defense by James Coates and Michael Killian originally written 1985. This book grips a reader whether read the first time or the fourth.  It is troubling how the issues of prolific over spending by the Pentagon on weapon systems that don’t work well enough to justify their costs continues 26 years after the book’s writing.  You would think it was today that the book was talking about with planes costing thousands of times more than originally priced (think about the relatively useless F-22) or the “widow maker” the Osprey that now flies but killed so many in becoming that plane.  America spends over a quarter of its total budget on defense but so much of that money simply lines the pockets of the weapon companies and doesn’t make America any safer only worse in shape economically.  Something must change or indeed as the book prophesied in 1985…America will one day spend 300 Billion to buy one plane and there will be no money for anything else.  Something has to change.  Read this book and shiver.

I- I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou. I first read this book in high school and it changed my life. I was a shy girl and didn’t have very much self-confidence. Maya Angelou allowed me to see myself in her prose and I embraced Phenomenal Woman as my mantra.

Maya holds nothing back and if you have never read anything by her, I suggest you start with this book. You get to know who Maya is and how she overcame such adversity. Nothing could keep her down and this book will inspire you to persevere.

J- Jamie Confidential by Stafford Hildred/Tim Ewbank. This is the biography of Britain chef Jamie Oliver. I first encountered Jamie Oliver with his television program Oliver’s Twist and it was love at first bite. His approach to cooking, like his life, is simple and down to earth. This biography starts at his childhood and works its way through the year 2003. You catch a glimpse into the life behind the icon. The writing style, while a tad envious, flows well and I even laughed a few times. It was an quick and enjoyable read. I recommend it to all foodies, especially if you love Jamie Oliver.

K- Karl Marx: Selected Writings in Sociology & Social Philosophy (Newly translated by T.B. Bottomore).  A review of Marx’s articles on sociology and philosophy that is eye opening for the reader.  His philosophies are intriguing like, “we don’t work because we are alive.  Rather we work to live” and my fave “all labour is forced whether by the whip or to earn money or to serve your god or to better yourself.  Every bit of labour is slavery to something.”  Not easy to read but worthwhile.  It is beyond me how communism formed out of his writings.

L- Let’s Roll! Ordinary People, Extraordinary Courage by Lisa Beamer with Ken Abraham. This is a powerful read.  It brings to light details about the oft overlooked aspect of 9/11, the first-time Americans fought back and won against terrorism.  It took me over a decade to come to this book.  I recommend this book if you want a bit of personal insight into the impact of the terror attacks on that fateful day to a simple American family.  While not a brilliantly written book, this book doesn’t have to be.  It is a book that highlights love, faith and family all entwined in the face of a terrorist attack.  It made me cry, it gave me hope, it is a solid book and I am proud we own it.

M- Money Management for the Creative Person by Les Silber. I first met Les at a book signing back in 2003 and he was so encouraging. I was contemplating my writing career but didn’t know where to start. He gave me this book and I read it the very next day. Creative people have not been known to be smart in the area of money management. In fact, we’d like nothing better than to have someone else handle it. This can lead to people taking advantage of artists and hijinks ensue. This book takes you step-by-step through a crash course in money management with the artist in mind. My favorite part of the book is where he talks about taking the “free” out of freelance. I highly recommend this book for all artists and creative people.

N- The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. True love lasts forever, no matter how much time has passed. In The Notebook, Nicholas Sparks takes us on a beautiful roller coaster ride of emotions. Circumstances tore Allie and Noah apart. Yet, there was still love beating in their hearts, love for one another. Immediately, I was transported into the hearts of both Allie and Noah. The story flowed and I read the book in one sitting. When I read the last page, I cried because I didn’t want it to end.

A heart-wrenching novel by one of my favorite authors. This was the first book I read by Nicholas Sparks and at the time I read it, I was recently single. I thought to myself that love wasn’t in the cards for me. All that changed when I read this book.

This is one of the most romantic love stories I have read and I recommend it to everyone. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll gasp in wonder at the miracle of love.

The movie didn’t do it justice. Read the book!

O- Over the Beach: The Air War in Vietnam by Zalin Grant.  A brilliant close-up look at the air war by a reporter who covered a fighter squadron (#162 USS Oriskany).  During the war and in post war interviews, he brings us an honest, open and realistic feel to a complicated, dangerous and often overlooked part of the Vietnam War.  Excellent book.

P- Perfect: The Inside Story of Baseball’s Sixteen Perfect Games by James Buckley Jr. This book is a brilliant chronological listing of every perfect game from the dawn of baseball to just before the turn of the 21st century.  Since the book was published there have been 4 more perfectos.  Every one of the first sixteen is retold in compelling fashion.  The reader really gets to appreciate that the perfect game isn’t simply about one man’s skill but about a moment in time that involves all 9 people on the field and one that rarely, RARELY ever happens.  Must read for a baseball fan.

Q- The Quintessential Encyclopedia of Drinks and Drinking by Frederick Martin. I must confess that the original title doesn’t have the word “quintessential” in it but it should. This book details every classic drink including how to make it and where it derived from. This book is invaluable, especially for those of us who love to entertain. Sure, it is probably out of print by now but if you can find it online or in a second hand bookstore, grab it without thinking twice! It’s a must own for any cocktail lover.

R- The Restless Sleep…Inside New York City’s Cold Case Squad by Stacy Horn. The compelling true story of the creation of the first cold case squad and how a small number of dedicated cops decided to work for those forgotten victims.  It has never been easy, fighting politics, budget cuts and the biggest enemy time…which fades memories, eliminates crime scenes and causes evidence to erode and disappear.  They don’t solve them all, they don’t catch everyone but they do catch a lot of them and they are doing God’s work, bringing closure and peace to the families of victims.  A powerful book that will illuminate anyone who has ever watched the CBS show based loosely on this office.

S- Second Helpings by Megan McCafferty. From the author who brought you Sloppy Firsts comes the next installment in the life of beloved Jessica Darling. It’s senior year and Jessica is distraught over everything. Her parents are hassling her to choose a college. Her best friend, Hope, is still in another state and then there is Marcus. Sigh. I’m always a little wary when it comes to a sequel to an incredible book. Can the author create another magical story or did she spend it all on the first book? Megan McCafferty did a fantastic job and I wasn’t disappointed. In fact (don’t tell anyone), I actually loved Second Helpings more than Sloppy Firsts. She took me back to my senior year and all the angst that came along. Such a delightful read!

T- True Compass – Edward M. Kennedy. A memoir truthfully it took me a very long time to finish this book.  The book is incredible. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in a great read.  A real classic.  I just changed careers and no longer had 3 hours a day to read on my commute so my reading time has been curtailed.  But that’s no shame on a superb read.  If you want to be invited deep inside the majesty of the Kennedy Clan through Senator Ted…this is the book.  Pointedly important right now is that Senator Kennedy had to run against Mitt Romney in Massachusetts and this book tells you all you need to know about Mitt Romney.  Allow me to quote directly for this is important and every American who is going to vote on the 6th needs to read this:

Ted Kennedy writes at the time of the first Senate Campaign televised debate in 1994.  “Our first televised debate at Faneuil Hall was in the final week of October.  With Romney’s poll lead decreasing and the truth of his job creation record in deep question, Mitt had realigned himself a little.  He’d moved away from his ‘businessman’ strategy and begun to campaign almost as a Liberal reformer.  I had begun to joke at rallies that I had heard of Flip and I had heard of Flop.  But with Mitt, it was flip-flop-flip!  He’s changed positions so often that if we gave him a little more time he’d be voting for me on Election Day”

That was Mitt in 1994 and that is Mitt today.  Fema? He changes his views on that more than the wind changes.

U- The Umpire Strikes Back by Ron Luciano and David Fisher. A terrific read written through the eyes of one of the most popular baseball umpires to ever be in the game.  He gives a funny yet honest peek into the life of a baseball umpire.  It is not as glamorous as one might think.  In fact, it is sad and often lonely.  A must read for any baseball fan!

V- The Vampire Sextette: Edited by Marvin Kaye. I picked up this book at a second hand bookstore with no expectations other than it had to deal with vampires. I’m a sucker for a good old-fashioned vampire story. None of the Twilight fluffy love kind of stories for me. I lust after something I can sink my teeth into. This book included six novellas by some of the best authors in the vampire genre (as of 2000). Each author stayed true to the Bram Stoker genre while adding their own little twist. My favorite story was Vanilla Blood by S. P. Somtow. If you love vampire stories, grab this book and maybe a clove of garlic or two.

W- The Wells of Hell by Graham Masterton.  A classic horror book written in the early 80’s that can still scare the crap out of a reader.  All about the thing that is going wrong with the well water in New England and exactly what is in the water and what is it doing to the people who drink it?  Hell may be a lot closer than people ever thought.  A great and scary book.

X- Xtra-Favorite Religious Book of all Time: The Religions of Man by Huston Smith. A thorough and academic overview of the seven world religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Islam, Judaism and Christianity).  It explains in very simplistic terms the basic beliefs of each religion and it amazes me how similar they are.  In many of these sacred texts, for instance, makes references to the Virgin Mary.  I thought it was really interesting and I wholly recommend this to every person out there.

Y- Year of the Hyenas by Brad Geagley. Imagine a murder mystery set in Ancient Egypt. Perfectly delicious, right? A detective named Semerket is called to investigate the death of a no-account elderly Theban princess. He starts to investigate and the authorities thwart his every move. The more he investigates the more secrets he discovers. It’s not about the princess at all, but about the Pharaoh Ramses III. Soon his life is in danger and he must choose between saving Egypt or himself. I loved Semerket and he reminded me of classic detectives from the 1930’s. He’s a no-nonsense dark character with hidden depths and a compulsion for the truth.   Filled with twists and turns I didn’t expect, this mystery is a must own for historical and suspense fans alike.

Z- The Bronx Zoo by Sparky Lyle and Peter Golenbock. Welcome to the 1978 Yankee team, where men were men and the brawls were televised. No one thought the 1978 Yankees were much of anything and they proved everyone wrong. One of the best baseball books of all time, Superstar Yankee Pitcher Sparky Lyle hits a homerun with this tell-all book. As a die-hard fan, I loved the way he pulled no punches. You get to witness it all from the players fighting to the team shake-ups. After reading this book, you’ll understand why playing for the Yankees is like camping out at The Bronx Zoo.

Title: Thirsty for Water: A Short Story

Genre: Young Adult, Time Travel, Short Story

Here’s what readers have to say about it:

“I loved it. I had no idea just how short short would be when I started it, but what a lovely tale to teach & inspire! I feel strongly a connection being made always holds the best potential to calm, comfort & nourish, to move & inspire hope, to insight change or instill lessons. And for me, I feel any kind of travel…time travel, dimension travel (I’m a big fan of the Twilight Zone!), or even a story with a “real” trip involved always helps to create that connection somehow. It was THAT quick…& true…once Juliet felt a connection to Noko…it was a done deal! So beautiful. The story simple…& short…yet so powerful.” ~ Tia Shurina

“Noko’s plight is very real. I am glad to see this kind of story that can be used in the classroom to share a very real problem.” ~ Becky Villareal

“A short but highly emotive story that makes me wish this sort of thing could really happen to snap many of us out of our comfortable complacency.
When you really think about it, it’s always the smallest person, or in this case, village, that gets left out.” ~ Chris Graham (otherwise known as Chris the Story Reading Ape)

This is an inspiring story of giving to others unselfishly. A high school girl, Juliet, while in her school classroom has a vision. Her teacher is talking about a young boy and the severe problems in his village. During this vision Juliet meets this young boy, Noko, who takes her to his village to show Juliet how he lives. Juliet is so shocked by what she sees that she announces in class that she will donate to the boy’s cause to bring water to his village. The other students join in because of her enthusiasm.

A lovely tale that touches the heart and brings tears to the eyes! I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed this short story.” ~ Janice Spina
