Don’t Let Small Minds Dictate the Size of Your Dreams! #inspiration #WednesdayWisdom

dreams too big

Have you been told your dreams are too big?

I remember when I told my family I wanted to be a president when I was young. They patted me on the head and said, “That’s nice but you’ll need something to fall back on in case that doesn’t pan out.” Then they gave me some suggestions, which I won’t bother to repeat.

When I told MR N my dream of becoming a published author, his first response surprised me.

“Then let’s make it happen.”

No trying to talk me out of it, no patting on the head, no rolling of the eyes. Encouragement and support.

Listen, I’m a firm believer in having big dreams. The bigger, the better. Why so big? The greater the dream, the sweeter the victory of making my dream come true. It doesn’t matter to me anymore what people think of my dreams. It’s not their dream, it’s mine!

There’ll be small minds who’ll try to talk you out of your dreams. Don’t let them! They have a narrow perception and can’t see the future like you can.

What are some of your grand dreams?

Pack a bag and go after your dreams. Ignore the naysayers and if you can muster, pity them. I pity the fools who have small dreams, for they never know what it’s like to fly high and live amongst the clouds.

Victory is Almost at Hand so Keep Going! #inspiration #MondayBlogs #quote

Lombardi Quote

Are you exhausted and want to just give up?

When you work your tail off on something, victory is at hand.  Nothing is clearer in my eyes than publishing stories.  Every word, every character, every emotional response the reader witnesses comes from deep within me.  It is my blood, sweat and tears splashed across the pages.  All my hopes, fears and dreams are there among the characters.

What are you working hard at?  Do you feel like giving up or quitting?  DON’T!  Your finest hour is at hand!

You will wear the ring of victory and you will rejoice!

#ThursdayThoughts: In Stillness, We Find Our Peace #inspiration #meditation #prayer

peace

Are you at peace?

Being still and at peace is something I struggle with daily. My brain is constantly firing thoughts, ideas and criticisms. It’s hard for me to shut it off and quite frankly, it’s exhausting. So, when I saw this quote, it gave me pause.

When we are still, peace comes to us.

I find peace through meditation/prayer. I concentrate on my breathing and words of gratitude flow from my mouth.

Why is stillness important?

No one is the Tasmanian Devil. We can’t keep whirling around nonstop without consequences. We get tired, exhausted even, and need time to refuel/rest/replenish ourselves. Stillness through meditation/prayer allows our mind/body/soul to be refilled.

Today, take time to be still and peace will find you. Now repeat after me,

“I am grateful for…”

#WednesdayWisdom: Surround Yourself With People Who… #inspiration #grateful

surround yourself

Are you surrounded by people who love, motivate and encourage you?

In order to grow as a person, we need a nurturing environment. Think of yourself as a seedling and in order to grow into a productive plant/shrub/tree, you need sun, water and extra nutrients. Without that kind of supportive environment, you’ll wither and die.

When I was younger, I didn’t surround myself with positive, encouraging people. In fact, my so-called friends spewed negativity and brought me down. I couldn’t do anything right and was an embarrassment. It’s no wonder I had a low self-esteem.

It wasn’t until I distanced myself from these downers that I began to bloom. I replaced negative friends with positive buddies and you know what, my whole outlook changed. I started dreaming big dreams and the people around me supported me. In fact, they were my cheerleader squad! I tried a bunch of new things and spread my wings.

We all need a positive support system, a group of peers who’ll love, motivate and encourage us. They’ll hold us up when we falter and be our training wheels when we get back on our bicycle. Their unconditional love uplifts us to reach for the stars and celebrates when we reach success.

So again I ask: are you surrounded by people who love, motivate and encourage you?

If not, maybe it’s time to switch up the people you call your friends.

Fatigue Makes Cowards of Us All so Keep in Shape! #inspiration #stress #TuesdayMotivation

fatigue

Is fatigue your constant companion these days?

Last week was a difficult week for MR N and me. Work was crazy and both of us were puddles of goo by the time the long weekend came. We took it easy and relaxed on Friday and Saturday. We were almost back to our old selves when Sunday came and we hosted the whole family for Easter. Exhaustion and fatigue set in again. We needed two more days off. Instead, we’re back to work and counting the hours until this coming weekend.

Sound familiar?

Fatigue invades the brain and body like a parasite and if you’re not healthy (physically, I mean), your body will just give up. Both MR N and I are in excellent physical shape, walking 25 km (15 miles) per week. MR N does over 500 push-ups every morning and I do 50 bicycle exercises every afternoon. If our bodies weren’t well-oiled machines, I believe we’d be worse off. Our bodies battle the fatigue and yes, we’re tired, but we haven’t given up.

Listen, stress has a way of beating us up and one of the sure-fire ways to combat it is to exercise. Go for a walk, bike ride, run; play a game like basketball, baseball, softball, hockey, football, soccer. Not only will the fresh air energize you, your focus will be on whatever you’re doing and not on whatever is stressing you out.

Take my advice and battle fatigue with healthy bodies. The exhaustion period will be shorter and you’ll be back to feeling 100% in no time!

Embrace Your Inner Eagle and Fly! #inspiration #motivation #ThursdayThoughts

fall fly

We all have a fear of falling on our butts. Some call it failure but in essence, all falling does is test our mettle. How much do we want it? It’s a life lesson and one we must conquer if we’re ever going to live our dreams.

I remember when I was little and I was learning to ride my big girl’s bike. It had training wheels on it and I fell so many times, I had bandages covering my knees. Did I give up? No way! I kept going and eventually I flew, with no help from anyone.

Take my advice and embrace your inner eagle. Soar high above the trees. Sure, you may fall a couple of times getting your wings to work but before you know it, you’ll be flying.

Note: It’s Easter weekend and we’re taking a long weekend. We need the relaxation and rest. But don’t despair, there’ll be a few book-related posts popping up on the POTL blog while we’re away. The Inspirational Thought will return Monday.

Eeyore’s Conclusion: Life is Good! #inspiration #Friday #advice

Friday Eeyore quote

What makes you happy?

Here are some things that make me happy:

A kiss from my husband in the morning.

The sun shining.

Seeing wildlife while taking my morning walk.

Laughing.

Writing.

Reading.

Watching Winnie the Pooh.

I grew up on the famous A.A. Milne series.  Every time I read or watch Winnie the Pooh (and his many friends), a smile spreads across my face.  It brings me back to a simpler time, my childhood.  I smile to myself and everything seems right with my world.

I love the above quote.  Eeyore says life is good, especially today because it’s Friday.  For those of you who are not familiar, Eeyore is a somber character.  He has troubles keeping his tail on, his house standing and many other things that bring him down.  His voice is low and sad.

But every once in awhile, he finds a balloon or a field of dandelions and is happy.  He doesn’t jump up and down.  He doesn’t scream excitedly.  He slightly smiles to himself and revels in it.

We could learn a lot from Eeyore.  Life can throw a lot at us.  It can be easy to be down and out.  But we have to remember to find what makes us happy and enjoy.

Find what makes you happy and hold onto it, even in the tough times.

#WednesdayWisdom According to Winnie the Pooh #inspiration #affirmations #kindness

WTP Life Lesson

Which Hundred Acre character is most like you?

Winnie the Pooh is the dreamer, likes to eat honey and lives a simple life.

Piglet is small in stature but with a big heart. He loves his friends fiercely and is often afraid of the unknown.

Rabbit is the know-it-all. His knowledge is great and he’s all about order. He’s a big planner and when things go wrong, he doesn’t know what to do.

Eeyore is gloomy, looking at life as one big continuous bad day. He doesn’t ask for anything and finds great joy in rolling in leaves and eating thistles.

Tigger is the eternal optimist and loves bouncing on his tail. He’s also the risk-taker, going on big adventures and laughing a lot.

Kanga is the mother of the group, taking care of everyone. She’s kind, thoughtful and quiet.

Roo is the littlest one and tries to do/feel/taste all that life has to offer. It doesn’t matter to him that he’s small or can’t do something. He’s going to try, no matter what everyone else says. He’s lovable and he’s the embodiment of innocence.

I’m Winnie the Pooh. I love everyone and everything. I try to figure things out but when it gets too hard for my brain, I sit down with a pot of honey. lol!

Today’s inspirational thought is simple:

A little consideration,

A little thought for others,

Makes all the difference.

We can all take this advice and incorporate it into our lives.

Think before speaking. Show kindness. Love one another, even those you don’t care for. Help others when they need it, not when they ask for it.

See you in the Hundred Acre Woods. I’m off to meet up with Piglet, Tigger and Roo for an adventure.

Can You Ever Really Go Home Again? It Depends on Where Home is #inspiration #MondayBlogs

coming home

Can you really go home again?

This question rattled around in my brain all weekend. On Friday, Google Maps did a fun thing for April Fools. You could play Ms. Pac-Man on actual streets using Google Maps. So, I did what every adult on the planet did: I called up a neighborhood and played. It was great amounts of fun.

What neighborhood did I choose?

The street I grew up on.

When MR N asked me what neighborhood I chose, I told him my childhood home. His face fell a smidgen and asked me, “Is that what you consider home?”

“No, of course not.” I replied. “Our neighborhood is my home.” But it made me pause. If what I said was the truth, then why did I go back home, to my childhood home?

We all want to go back home, to where we grew up, and show up successful, happy and content.

When I left my childhood home all those years ago, no one thought I would be anything. In fact, they all thought I was a head-in-the-cloud young woman with crazy dreams. My school bullies thought I was a nerd and a geek. Boy, did I prove them wrong. 😉

Today, I’m happy to call my neighborhood home and wherever my husband is, that is home. It’s a blissful state because no matter where we live, I’m home. So, no matter what I’m doing during the work day, it’s such a relief to come home every night with spend it with my beloved.

Home is where the heart is. Home should be wherever your heart is, not necessarily where you grew up. You can go home again and every night you do, take a moment and give thanks.

Positive Attitude: A Sure-Fire Antidote to Negativity #inspiration #WednesdayWisdom

positive attitude

How’s your positivity meter?

Mine’s at an all-time high this morning. The sun is shining, the weather is warming up and MLB Opening Day is five days away.

Why am I so positive? The alternative is rather grave.

Yeah, I can hear the groans but the above statement is true. I’m proof-positive that staying happy and having a positive attitude, no matter what, is not only healthy but fun, too. I used to have wicked mood swings where I was either really high on life or down in the depths of despair. Trust me, it was not a good way to live.

So how did I become this bubbly, bright person?

I made a decision to look on the sunny side of things. No matter what was going on, I chose to look for the rainbow among the thunderclouds. Some days it was easy while other days it was like pulling teeth. I persevered and now I don’t even think about it. When negative people try to bring me down, I let loose my positive attitude. Needless to say, negativity doesn’t stand a chance. 😉

Negative attitude is like a virus and the only way to combat it is with positive thoughts and actions.

Embrace your inner Mr./Miss/Mrs. Sunshine and let the positivity flow. It’ll keep you young, healthy and happy. An added bonus is watching negativity flee. 😀

What Seeds Will You Plant Today? #inspiration #kindness #grateful

heart seedling

What’s growing in your heart?

Spring is here, the snow is melting away and many of us are prepping our garden for planting. There’s debris to clear away and soil needs to have added nutrients for optimum performance.

Your heart is like your garden. What you concentrate on, whether it’s hatred, fear, love or kindness, blooms in your heart.

Maybe it’s time to do some spring cleaning in your heart. Clear away the resentment and anger. Come to terms with what you can and can’t control. Stare fear in the face and let it know you won’t be its slave. Weed out all the negative thoughts and feelings, making room for the seedlings of hope, peace, happiness and joy.

It’s up to you what grows in your heart.

What’s A Commonality Between People Around the World? #Kindness and #Love! #inspiration

kindness

What are two things we have in common with everyone around the world?

Kindness and love.

No matter what country you’re from, what language you speak or what you believe, we all want to be loved and to love. When someone is kind to us, it makes a difference. Love and kindness are our commonality; it’s what makes us human.

Yesterday, there was an attack on London’s Parliament. At last count, four people have died and 29 people were injured (could be more). In the midst of all this chaos, kindness and love appeared.

“The minister for counter-terrorism, Tobias Ellwood, a former soldier, raced to give first aid to the police officer who later died. Pictures showed him with blood on his face as he administered CPR.” – The Guardian

While everyone else was running to safety, this brave minister ran into danger to try to save the life of the police officer who shot the terrorist. Covered in blood, he gave of himself to try to save another human being.

Kindness and love.

Today and every day, show kindness and love. Stop trying to see what makes you different from others and see the glaring commonality. Spread love and be the embodiment of kindness.

How do you show kindness and love? Share in the comments below.

May Your Pockets Be Heavy and Your Heart Be Light #inspiration #StPatricksDay #Irish

st patricks day quote

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

‘Tis the day to celebrate all things Irish and the Emerald Isle. As both of us are Irish and our families descend from Ireland, we’re embracing the spirit of St. Patrick.

Our families left Ireland in the hopes of a better life and even though life was hard in a new country, they were content and happy. The Irish spirit lives on in us and we have to think they’re proud of us.

Celebrate the Irish spirit today, even if you’re not Irish. Wear some green, listen to great music, read and recite an Irish blessing/prayer, eat and drink heartily, spend time with those you love and more.

May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light. May good luck pursue you each morning and night.

#WednesdayWisdom: Every Action Vibrates in Eternity #inspiration #Irish #grateful

action irish

St. Patrick’s Day is this Friday so I thought it would be appropriate to feature inspiring quotes by Irish writers all week. Today’s inspiring quote is from Edwin Hubbel Chapin. While he did not live in Ireland, his family descended from Ireland.

Did you know that every action/thought in your life vibrates tenfold in the Universe?

Think about it for a minute. Every kind thought you have, every act of kindness you do, reverberates throughout the Universe creating a chain reaction. The same can be said for negative thoughts and actions. Whoa, that makes you feel very powerful, doesn’t it?

You and I are powerful creatures and with that power comes responsibility. We have the power to change lives for good or evil and our influence is most potent in the lives of our corner of the world. Through smiling and saying a compliment to the person serving us coffee or our co-workers, we’re starting a positive chain reaction. By giving of ourselves, we’re sewing seeds that’ll bloom into gratitude flowers which will spread joy to many.

Every action in our lives touches on some chord that will vibrate in eternity.

Spread kindness, gratitude and Light today and every day. Help one another and celebrate life. Encourage those who are struggling and rejoice in each other’s triumphs.

Life is No Brief Candle but a Splendid Torch We Must Shine #inspiration #quote #motivation

life GBS

Are you shining your Light for all to see?

George Bernard Shaw is one of my favorite Irish authors and the above quote inspired my motto: spread the Light.

Each of us is a burning torch and every time we encounter a situation or a person, our Light is a reflection of how we live our life. Are we kind, encouraging, helpful or are we mean-spirited, demoralizing, unsympathetic?

Taking Shaw’s life as an example, it’s our duty to shine our light brightly, not only for ourselves but for future generations. Kindness is infectious and helping others is a trait passed on from generation to generation.

Let’s all be glorious torches so the world can see how to live a meaningful life. It starts with you, here, today. Are you ready to shine?

Can You Find Your Way By Moonlight? If so, You’re a Dreamer! #inspiration #MondayBlogs #Irish

dreamer OW

St. Patrick’s Day is this Friday so I thought it would be appropriate to feature inspiring quotes by Irish writers all week. First up is the brilliant Oscar Wilde.

Are you a dreamer?

When I was in high school, my teachers and classmates called me a dreamer, and I’m sure they meant it as an insult. But in reality, I love being a dreamer because it allows me to see the world in a different light. I try to see the good in everyone, even the villains. It’s my imagination and creativity that makes me a great writer/author/blogger.

Are you able to navigate through your corner of the world by moonlight?

If so, you’re a dreamer like me.

Embrace your inner self and see the world through different eyes. It’s a beautiful way to live and ignore those who call you names. They don’t understand that it’s much better to be a dreamer than to be a stick-in-the-mud.

#ThursdayThoughts: Words to Live By and Incorporate into Your Life #inspiration

word to live by

Looking for the secret to a happy, healthy, fulfilled life?

Incorporate these attributes into your life and I can guarantee you’re well on your way.

How?

Listen, you may know someone who appears to have everything going for them, the perfect life, so to speak. And who knows, they might be happy. But unless they have some sort of balance in their life, they probably aren’t happy.

The quote above is on my wall calendar that my dear friend gave me for Christmas. I look at it several times a day and it’s a reminder that life is more than busting my butt. If I didn’t have love, didn’t work hard, didn’t give freely, then none of it matters. It’s all about balance.

So, today’s inspirational thought is all about balance.

Think deeply,

Speak gently,

Love much,

Laugh a lot,

Work hard,

Give freely,

and be kind.

Without Faith, You’ll Never be Successful #WednesdayWisdom #inspiration #faith

faithful

Today is International Women’s Day and I dedicate this inspirational thought to women around the world.

What’s the #1 rule in achieving your dreams?

Have faith in your abilities and believe in yourself.

No matter where you come from or who you are, you’re a beautiful woman. You’re gifted with a combination of abilities that no one else has. You have dreams and the only thing holding you back is your fear. Let go of that fear and have faith. Success and happiness are within your reach.

Believe in yourself. Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers, you cannot be successful or happy.

Celebrate women today and every day!

Be an Explorer and Discover New Adventures! #inspiration #motivation #TuesdayMotivation

inspirational-1254724_1280

Are you an explorer in life?

I remember when I told my family that I was going to marry and move over 3,000 miles away. At first, they thought I was crazy but as the day came closer, they realized I was really going to to do it. My mom cried and my grandparents couldn’t let me go. My grandmother asked me one last time, “Why are you doing this?”

My response was simple. “I love him and I need a new adventure.”

See, ever since I was little, I’ve been curious about life and everything in it. In school, I bombarded teachers with unending questions. My thirst for knowledge and exploring life drove me to new experiences.

Meeting and marrying MR N was no different. He lived far away and offered me an opportunity of a fresh start, a new place where no one knew who I was or what my past entailed. So, I jumped at the chance and I’ve never been happier.

You know the old saying: Life is an adventure? Well, I love the quote above because it speaks to my heart. Life is an adventure but not everyone has an explorer’s heart. Some are content to stay near the shore. Not me, though. I want to get in my ship and discover new places and people.

Is your heart tugging for an adventure? Is your pirate inner self urging you to live it up a little?

Don’t ignore your inner explorer! Follow it and set a course for a grand adventure. You never know where life will lead you. Whether it’s a job change, moving to some faraway land or take that trip you’ve always wanted to go, map out what you want to do and then do it! Tell fear to walk the plank and set sail.

Without Terrible Days, You’ll Never Cherish Great Days! #inspiration #MondayBlogs

bad day

We’ve all had days when it feels like our lives are over.

Yesterday, I was relaxing with MR N and we saw a scene unfold in the parking lot across from our building. A woman in her early twenties paced, yelled and cried to her friends around her. Something was clearly wrong and at one point she screamed, “OMG, my life is over!”

I wanted to run over to her, give her a hug and tell her it was going to be okay. It may seem like life is over but this, too, shall pass.

I remember clearly a time when I thought my life wasn’t worth living anymore. I was in the pit of despair and the darkness had me in a choke hold. I couldn’t breathe, couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep; the pain, grief and suffering overwhelmed me. I wanted out of this life and I almost ran away. Almost.

What did I do?

I took it one day at a time. My best friend held me and told me life would get better. The pain eased and through my faith, my life improved. Now I’m living the most amazing life, something I never envisioned all those years ago.

Listen, we’re going to have bad days, days when when the darkness swells over our heads and we’re fighting to just stay afloat. This too shall pass. We can’t savor the good days without going through the bad ones.

Be grateful for everything and take it one moment at a time. Believe in the promise of tomorrow and you’ll get through this.

Without Memories, Life is Dull and Boring #inspiration #motivation

motivational-1485652_1920

Memories are beautiful and nothing can erase them.

I woke up this morning thinking about pie, more importantly the pies I used to indulge in at a restaurant chain called Baker’s Square. My grandparents took me there quite often growing up. It was my favorite place to eat out because after dinner, I always got pie. They didn’t just have four or five varieties but a whopping fifty-five.

Why am I talking about pie this morning? Because Baker’s Square dinners with my grandparents are one of my prized memories. No matter what’s going on in my life, I can sit back and relive those happy memories.

Memories are the beautiful masterpieces of our life. They paint our world with vibrant colors and no one can erase them. Sure, it might be foggy or as I get older, I might need help remembering it clearly (that’s when MR N’s memory comes in handy for me), but these memories make me smile and sometimes laugh.

What are some happy memories you’d like to share? Do you have a fond memory of food (and possibly pie) from your youth? I’d love to hear it.

Memories don’t have to be pushed away from your mind; they’re your self-portrait and each one is beautiful!

There’s One Way to Happiness and It’s Easier Than You Think #ThursdayThoughts

happiness

Did you know that worrying suffocates happiness from your life?

I’m worried about something and like usual, it’s keeping me from enjoying life. I try not to worry about it and for the most part, it doesn’t bother me. But last night, worry took over. MR N asked me what was going on and I made a joke of it. This was his response:

“It’s already taken care of. Done. Finito. Stop worrying and be happy, my love.”

I finally had to give myself a shake. If MR N wasn’t worried then I won’t be either. I woke up this morning happier and feeling almost 100%.

Life throws us curve balls and in order to be happy, we have to stop worrying!

Do like MR N says and realize it’s already taken care of. It’s out of our hands so we might as well let happiness reign.

This #AshWednesday, Take a Moment and Pray for the Hungry #inspiration #motivation #Lent

angel in ocean

During these 40 days, let me put away all my pride. Let me change my heart and give up all that is not good within me. Let me love God with all that I am and all that I have.
~ Genesis Grain

Today is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, and it’s a day many Christians reflect inwardly, giving thanks and purifying themselves. Many make a vow to give up something showing their devotion and thanks to God.

Last weekend, I received an email from Bread for the World and it totally moved me. Here is how it began:

Bread for the World believes ongoing prayer is essential for creating and sustaining the political will needed to achieve the end of extreme hunger by 2030. To encourage this outpouring of prayers, each year we produce Lenten Prayers for Hungry People. This six-panel “table tent” includes the Scripture lessons appointed for the five Sundays in Lent as well as the Sunday of the Passion (Palm Sunday).

They went on to talk about a life-changing way you can help end hunger in the world. Let’s say you decide to give up on your daily muffin ($2 – $3) for Lent. Take that money you’d normally spend and donate it to help feed the hungry (food banks, food pantry, church, charity that helps homeless, etc.).

What a fantastic idea! Not only will you be feeding your spiritual self but people in need as well.

If you want to take part in what Bread for the World and Rev. Nancy Neal are doing, please click here: https://secure3.convio.net/bread/site/SSurvey?ACTION_REQUIRED=URI_ACTION_USER_REQUESTS&SURVEY_ID=10220&autologin=true

Happy Ash Wednesday! I’m praying for each of you today and may you find comfort and solace in the Light.
