#Kindness is the Only Currency You Should Spend More Than You Earn! #TuesdayThoughts

Kindness Paris

In the great ledger of life, are you spending more kindness more than you earn?

Yesterday was World Kindness Day and while I’m a day late, my message still applies. Kindness is the only currency where it’s necessary to spend more than you make. Kindness is something that be freely given without thought to how it affects you or your budget. It doesn’t cost anything and it reaches farther than simply money.

Give yourself an audit. When was the last time you showed kindness and didn’t think about how it could benefit you? This morning? Yesterday? Last week? Last month? Can’t remember? Well, maybe it’s time to start investing kindness into your daily routine.

Each of us, no matter how much money we make, has the potential to be a Kindness King or Queen. Spread kindness to everyone you meet and see how it changes your corner of the world.

What Seeds Will You Plant Today? #inspiration #kindness #grateful

heart seedling

What’s growing in your heart?

Spring is here, the snow is melting away and many of us are prepping our garden for planting. There’s debris to clear away and soil needs to have added nutrients for optimum performance.

Your heart is like your garden. What you concentrate on, whether it’s hatred, fear, love or kindness, blooms in your heart.

Maybe it’s time to do some spring cleaning in your heart. Clear away the resentment and anger. Come to terms with what you can and can’t control. Stare fear in the face and let it know you won’t be its slave. Weed out all the negative thoughts and feelings, making room for the seedlings of hope, peace, happiness and joy.

It’s up to you what grows in your heart.

#WednesdayWisdom: Every Action Vibrates in Eternity #inspiration #Irish #grateful

action irish

St. Patrick’s Day is this Friday so I thought it would be appropriate to feature inspiring quotes by Irish writers all week. Today’s inspiring quote is from Edwin Hubbel Chapin. While he did not live in Ireland, his family descended from Ireland.

Did you know that every action/thought in your life vibrates tenfold in the Universe?

Think about it for a minute. Every kind thought you have, every act of kindness you do, reverberates throughout the Universe creating a chain reaction. The same can be said for negative thoughts and actions. Whoa, that makes you feel very powerful, doesn’t it?

You and I are powerful creatures and with that power comes responsibility. We have the power to change lives for good or evil and our influence is most potent in the lives of our corner of the world. Through smiling and saying a compliment to the person serving us coffee or our co-workers, we’re starting a positive chain reaction. By giving of ourselves, we’re sewing seeds that’ll bloom into gratitude flowers which will spread joy to many.

Every action in our lives touches on some chord that will vibrate in eternity.

Spread kindness, gratitude and Light today and every day. Help one another and celebrate life. Encourage those who are struggling and rejoice in each other’s triumphs.

Constant Kindness Melts Away Misunderstanding and Mistrust #inspiration #LGTB #Kindness

constant-kindness

Kindness isn’t like the flu shot; you need to incorporate it into your daily life.

I get asked a lot, “How can you be kind all the time? Isn’t it exhausting?”

The truth of the matter is that kindness is a part of myself, like an arm or leg. Through daily acts of kindness, I’ve made it a habit and it’s something I don’t even think about anymore. But it wasn’t always like that.

I can remember a time when I weighed everything I did by what it would get me in return. I loved to be loved. I did someone a favor expecting a favor in return. I gave money away to get it back in return. Everything I did was calculated into an invisible ledger. Kindness didn’t even factor into my life, and I was an important member of my church.

Then I met Jack. He was a co-worker at the bookstore I was managing. He and I got along great. We hung out all the time after work and one day he invited me to go with him to a “thing”. I wasn’t sure what it was but I said sure. He gave me directions and I met him. I looked up at the sign and it said:

Rainbow Outreach: Free to be Yourself

Hugs Free of Charge

It was a safe haven for LGTB youth and young adults. I had never been to one before and truth be told, I almost bolted.

What am I doing here? Sure, I believe in equal rights and the gay/lesbian lifestyle but what can I do?

Jack waved for me to come in from the window. It was too late to run. So I decided to stay for a few minutes, for Jack’s sake. What harm could it do?

I spent the next few hours there and it totally changed my outlook on life and kindness. These kids were like me and had troubles and insecurities, too. They were looking to be loved but didn’t expect anything in return. The biggest thing they taught me was to be kind, to each other and to perfect strangers. They took me in and made me feel loved without expecting love in return.

From that moment on, I chucked my invisible ledger and tried to incorporate kindness into my routine. I started small, opening doors for people, smiling and saying good morning, that kind of thing. It was hard at first because there are mean-spirited people in the world and they would take advantage of my kindness. I wanted to last out at them but I didn’t. I just poured on more kindness.

Kindness is a good habit to form and the results are impressive. Being kind to others takes getting used to but soon it will come natural to you, like breathing.

Constant kindness can accomplish much. As the sun makes ice melt, kindness causes misunderstanding, mistrust and hostility to evaporate.

Make kindness a habit.

Spread Kindness to Everyone, Especially the Unkind #inspiration #kindness

unkind people

Are you ready to be a Kindness Ambassador?

All over the world, there’s people spewing hatred, fear and tyranny. It’s ugly and makes me sad.

Where’s the love, kindness and peace?

The only way to fight darkness is to spread Light. Counter hatred with love. Smack down fear with kindness.

Spread kindness to everyone, especially the unkind ones. They need it most.

Instead of ignoring unkind people, be kind to them. They need it most, anyway. It doesn’t cost you anything and you’ll leave those unkind people scratching their heads in disbelief.

The world is looking for a few good men and women to spread kindness. Who’s with me?

Think about it. For every person you encounter online today, be kind and encourage. They, in turn, will continue the trend and before you know it, kindness will have spread around the world.

Cool, huh?

Come join me and spark someone today!

A little spark of kindness can put a colossal burst of sunshine  into someone’s day.

Be Kind, for Everyone You Meet is Fighting a Hard Battle #kindness #inspiration

kind plato

Someone asked me recently, “Why are you so kind?”

“I’m kind because there are so many people hurting and worn out from life.”

Being kind takes little effort on my part and it could be the lifeline for another. My smiling face may be the only glimmer of Light they see.

Look at the picture above. No, really look at it. That man could use some kindness.

Are you facing a battle and don’t know if you can survive?

You will!

Are you tired and it’s only 8:30 am?

Have some water/coffee/pop and tell yourself you can make it!

Do you see someone in need of a hug?

Be kind and hug them!

Kindness is easy to doll out. You’re healing the world one person at a time. 🙂

Be kind, for everyone you meet  is fighting a hard battle.

#Kindness is Life’s Currency so Make Sure You Spend More Than You Earn #inspiration

Kindness Paris

Are you solvent in kindness?

When I was eighteen years old, my mom gave me the trip of a lifetime as a graduation present: a two week trip with people from my French class to France. It was an eye-opening experience and one I will never forget.

My French teacher, Monsieur Bouchard, was a kind, generous man. Sure, he was strict in the classroom. He expected everyone to speak French in the classroom and you were disciplined if you spoke English. More times than I care to count, he would raise one eyebrow and say to me,

Mademoiselle, parler français afin que les jeunes hommes autour de vous tomber en amour avec vous .”

(Translation: Miss, speak French so that the young men around you will fall in love with you.)

Needless to say, being the shy girl I was and having a huge crush on the guy sitting next to me, I blushed six shades of red.

Anyway, we were back in Paris for the final two days and I had almost run out of money. I had a very strict budget and had brought all the money I could. While all the others brought thousands of dollars, I only had a few hundred. While others ate heaping plates of food for lunch, I had a small sandwich and Orangina (my new favorite drink while I was over there). I wasn’t in Paris to eat but to immerse myself in the culture.

Monsieur Bouchard approached me while I was throwing my trash away. He bent his head down and spoke in a voice only I could hear.

“Mademoiselle, are you in need of a small, shall we say, loan?”

I looked up, startled. I thought I was being careful to not let anyone know my money issues. His eyes were soft and filled with understanding.

“Did I tell you when I was a young man, I lived off of scraps in Paris? I barely had two francs to rub together. I was going to school and working two jobs.”

I shook my head. I couldn’t believe it. Him, a sophisticated man was once poor (like me).

“It was only through the kindness of strangers and the baker next door that I ate anything at all. The baker, he was such a kind man… I never forgot his kindness.” He sighed wistfully before continuing. “Now, I wish to repay that debt by helping you.”

He pulled out his wallet and gave me a few hundred francs. I looked around to make sure no one saw  before sliding the money into my purse.

“Thank you, Monsieur. You are tres gentil.” I smiled and he gave my shoulder a little squeeze.

It is thanks to his kindness and his discreet nature that a poor girl on holiday was able to eat and have the most unforgettable time in Paris. No one in the group knew of my “loan” and when we were back in America, I repaid the $40.

I’ve never forgotten his kindness and have always tried to do the same. I’ve spread kindness wherever I’ve gone and will do so until the day I die.

Kindness is life’s currency and at the end of the day, it’s much better to give it all away than to hoard it for a rainy day.

If you see someone in need, help them. It may not seem like a big deal to you but it may just save the life of another.

Monsieur Bouchard, if you’re out there, thank you for spreading your Light and being a great mentor to me and others in my class. I learned so much from you about life, love and what it means to be French.

“Répandre l’amour (Spread Love)”

Are you a Kindness Superhero? #inspiration #kindness #RAOK

kindness

Anyone who reads this knows that I am a champion of Kindness!  You could call me Captain Kindness and I would wear a purple cape.  I would be a modern day superhero and would spread kindness throughout the world.

What is kindness?

Kindness is the act of doing something to help or aid someone without wanting/needing any recognition or reward.  It can come in many forms and deeds.  It is a character trait that is talked about in every religious/spiritual belief.

Think back to a time when you were the recipient of kindness.  It can be something small like someone holding the door open for you.  It can be something big like giving you shelter when you needed it most.  Remember how that made you feel.

Now think of a time when you were kind to someone.  Imagine the person’s reaction and then remember how great it made you feel.

It takes nothing to be kind and the end result will be life-changing!

Today and every day, look around and be kind to all those you meet.  Let us spread kindness around the world.  Together we will embrace the world in one giant kindness hug.  The world and the people in the world will be forever changed.

Let us all be Kindness Superheroes!!!

What Will Your Legacy Be? #inspiration #motivation #love

When your life is over and you’re up in Heaven, how will you be remembered?

We all strive to live a good life and to make a difference. At the end of our lifetime, we want those people who knew us to tell others how we were great. Our legacy is very important to us. We’re not just a number; we matter.

When my life is over, I want people to remember how compassionate, encouraging and giving I was. That’s the legacy I want to leave behind.

In order to achieve that, I have do more than talk about spreading the Light and helping others. Actions are more powerful than words. Every day, I’m out in my corner of the world (and online) spreading the Light. I help others in whatever way I can. Simple acts of kindness are what I’m all about.

So again I ask you, what will your legacy be?

Will you be known as a loving soul or a miserable miser?

In the end, nothing we do or say in this lifetime will matter as much as the way we have loved one another.

Love one another, from stranger to soulmate.

The Smallest Act of Kindness… #inspiration #kindness #MondayBlogs

smallest acts of kindness

What’s worth more: the smallest act of kindness or the grandest intention?

I believe it’s the smallest act of kindness.

The past week I’ve been really sick and on Friday, I took a sick day. I stayed in bed and got the rest I desperately needed. MR N was also sick and even though he felt worse than me, he made sure I was doing okay. He did the dishes, took out the trash and even cleaned the washroom.

Was there some secret motive on his behalf? I don’t think so. He did these small acts of kindness because he loves me and wanted to help me out.

Every day, we have the capability of doing numerous small acts of kindness. In the eyes of the Universe, these tiny acts of kindness are worth more than all the money in the world. Doing something kind for no reason other than to help another person comes from the heart and it’s something to treasure.

The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.

** Thank you to all those who wished me well and sent me emails. I appreciate it and it made me smile. **

Too Small an Act of Kindness? #inspiration #kindness #kind

Kindness

Is there such a thing as too small of an act of kindness?

I asked myself this on Sunday morning. Every Sunday morning MR N and I sit out on our solarium and watch the world wake up. The birds sing, the squirrels flit from tree to tree and the sun shines. We put our feet up and relax.

This particular Sunday morning we saw a man we have seen for the past month ride down our street.

“There he is,” I told MR N.

MR N made a dash for the door and grabbed the bag sitting by the door. I watched from the windows.

The man on the bike is a man our age. He is homeless and he goes around collecting liquor bottles from the trash and recycling. In Canada, you can return empties to get your deposit back. It’s not a lot of money but it’s one way for the government to encourage recycling.

We had a party on Saturday and collected a few liquor bottles. We put it in a bag and decided the next time we saw the man on the bike, MR N would give it to the man.

I watched as MR N walked down to meet the man. They were just out of my view but this is what MR N told me later.

“I said good morning and he smiled. I handed him the bag with the bottles in it and I swear his face lit up like a Christmas tree. He thanked me and thanked me and it was like I had given him $5,000.”

A small act of kindness.

Some may call what we did no big deal and honestly, it didn’t mean anything to us. But to this man, who is struggling to put food in his stomach, it was like we were his rich aunt and uncle. It also meant, for one brief moment, he was a fellow human being. He mattered, which he does.

I’ve witnessed a lot of people in my city/town ignore homeless people and those in need. It’s as if they don’t exist. People in need are exactly that, people. They have feelings, like you and me, and when you ignore them, it hurts. A simple acknowledgement (like a nod or eye-contact) does more to spread the Light than all the money in the world.

So, what do you think? Is my act of kindness too small?

I don’t think so. I imagine in the eyes of Heaven, my act of kindness is worth more than if I gave him $5,000.

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.

Today, let’s go out into the world and do a lot of small acts of kindness.

Fill Your Heart With This Treasure: Kindness #inspiration #kindness

Kindness is more valuable than gold.

It is!

Don’t believe me?

Think back on your life and all the times kindness was gifted to you. Every kind act, from a helping hand to a word of encouragement, is something to be treasured.

I value kindness more than money, cars and houses. I tend to be drawn to people who show kindness without hesitation. Their Light shines brighter than those that don’t.

Guard well within yourself that treasure, kindness. Know how to give without hesitation. How to lose without regret. How to acquire without meanness.

Fill your heart with this treasure (kindness) and you will be richer than King Midas.

Kindness gift

Kindness is the greatest gift you can give another.

There have been so many people who have shown me kindness over the years. Without them, I don’t think I would be here now.

The key to kindness is to not expect anything in return. Showing kindness allows us a glimpse of pure unconditional love. Plus, the feeling of helping another is worth more than a basketful of money.

In your day today, gift someone kindness. I promise they won’t return it. 😉

Be Like Tinkerbell… #inspiration #kindness #positiveaffirmations

smallest acts of kindness

Have you ever wanted to grant wishes?

Ever since I was little, I have wanted to be like Tinkerbell. Yes Tinkerbell. I wanted to flutter around with my wand in hand and grant wishes. No agenda or purpose other than to help people.

I love this quote by Oscar Wilde. Let’s read it again:

The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.

Guess what?

We have the power within us to help people. All we have to do is look around and offer some kindness.

Your son/daughter needs help with homework. Spend some time with them.

A friend has just lost her/his job/loved one. Invite her/him over for a meal and encourage them.

A stranger in the grocery store is trying to reach for something. Offer your assistance with a smile.

A person is waiting to cross the street. Wave your hand for them to cross.

These are just a few small acts of kindness. They don’t seem like they make a difference but trust me, they do!

Channel your inner Tinkerbell and spread some kindness! When you do, the world around you will see your wings and your Light!
