Title: Rolf’s Quest (A Medieval Encounter Book 1)

Author: Aubrey Wynne

Genre: Historical Romance, Romantic Fantasy

Book Blurb:

A wizard, a curse, a fated love…

When Rolf finally discovers the woman who can end the curse that has plagued his family for centuries, she is already betrothed. Time is running out for the royal wizard of King Henry II. If he cannot find true love without the use of sorcery, the magic will die for future generations.

Melissa is intrigued by the mystical, handsome man that haunts her by night and tempts her by day. His bizarre tale of Merlin, enchantments, and finding genuine love has her questioning his sanity and her heart.

From the moment Melissa stepped from his dreams and into his arms, Rolf knew she was his destiny. Now, he will battle against time, a powerful duke, and call on the gods to save her.

My Review:

True love, without the use of magic, will free the great Merlin from his own mystical prison but can it be done?

Back in the day, the great wizard Merlin fell in love with a woman who loved another. Merlin cast a love spell on her and in retaliation, she cursed him and all his future generations. The first-born son of each generation will have the opportunity to choose fated love without the use of magic.

Rolf was brought to Merlin when he was only ten years old and the fate of Merlin and future generations is in Rolf’s hands. Rolf thinks he’s learned from his ancestors’ mistakes but destiny is a funny mistress because when he meets his beloved, the woman who can break his family’s curse, she’s already engaged to another.

Melissa has been engaged to Charles Roker, a duke, from the time she was small. A partnership between two families to strengthen alliances, not for love. Melissa starts having intoxicating dreams about a mysterious man with dark hair and when he appears at King Henry II’s coronation, she’s left to wonder if his story of fated love and Merlin is true. Desire wars with allegiance to her father but she has one ally: the Queen. She must choose between love and loyalty. Can she marry a man she barely knows yet his kisses make her dizzy as if she’s drunk too much spiced wine? And what about this curse? Will true love conquer all or will magic cease to be?

I was captivated by the historical romance from the first page and honestly, didn’t want it to end. Wynne is historically accurate throughout the book, from the clothing to historical people/events to how society behaves and even cultural traditions (such as weddings and coronations). I was immersed in the 12th century and it was glorious.

I loved Roker, Melissa’s fiancé, and it was quite enjoyable seeing his evil mind process events out of his control. He fought for Melissa’s hand and when fate intervenes, his world is turned upside down. His actions, as well as his frame of mind, amped up the suspense and intrigue.

At the end, Rolf’s Quest is a testament to love and lovers. It reminded me of The Princess Bride as well as Ladyhawk. I highly recommend it and I can’t wait to read the next installment in this series!

kiss 1

Welcome to this week’s edition of Friday Book Round-Up. Today is National Kissing Day and in honor of that, I thought it might be fun to share some of my favorite books that have toe-curling, romantic kisses in them. A Knight in Shining Armor (The Montgomery/Taggert Family Book 15) by Jude Deveraux

Jude Deveraux’s beloved bestseller has captivated readers the world over; now in a special edition featuring new material, this timeless love story greets a new generation.

Abandoned by her lover, thoroughly modern Dougless Montgomery finds herself alone and brokenhearted in an old English church. She never dreamed that a love more powerful than time awaited her there…until Nicholas Stafford, Earl of Thornwyck, a sixteenth-century knight, appeared. Drawn to him by a bond so sudden and compelling that it defied reason, Dougless knew that Nicholas was nothing less than a miracle: a man who would not seek to change her, who found her perfect just as she was. But she could not know how strong were the chains that tied them to the past—or the grand adventure that lay before them.

Then he meets Stephanie, and suddenly, his focus is less on his military service and more on the pretty brunette who has stolen his heart. For some reason he can’t get her out of his head, even though she’s bad news. She lives in another country, far from his Parisian home. So why the hell does he want her to stay so badly?

****

This is the first in the Single Ladies’ Travel Agency series, stand-alone Contemporary Romance novels to take you to a faraway place and get your mind racing!

The second story in this series, GOING HARD, is set for release August 1st!

18+ Excerpt:

“Okay, fine.” I sit up and lean in, ready to open my soul to her. “After the breakup it took me forever to get to the point where I feel strong enough to do something like this. I was stuck in a stifling relationship for far too long, and it sucked my spirit away. I want it back. It’s finally time to embrace my singleness. I want to be Independent Adriana, at least for a little.”

She pulls back and stares at me, her brown eyes sizing me up to make sure I haven’t been replaced by a pod person. “You’ve been single for over a year. You’re telling me you’re only embracing it now?” She looks dismayed as it hits her just how hard the last twelve months have been for me. That’s what happens with happy people; sometimes they don’t notice the ones suffering around them. But I can’t exactly hold it against her. She has her own life to think about and besides, it’s not like I reached out to help. I’m a silent sufferer, damn it.

“A year in which I’m fairly sure I reached the second coming of my virginity,” I reply. “But I’ve come to accept my aloneness, and I feel pretty good about it, actually. I’m really, truly content. Happy, even.”

“Well, good. I’m pissed off that Roger made you feel shitty for that long, though. That jerkass wasn’t worth suffering over.”

“Roger didn’t make me feel shitty. I made myself feel shitty. Look, you’re married—happily, I might add—and meanwhile I failed at the one long-term relationship I’ve ever had. It was a punch to my self esteem.”

“You didn’t fail. He failed you by being such a twat waffle. But back to the one year thing—has it really been that long since you got laid?” She looks like she’s trying to sort through one of the great mysteries of the universe. How the hell can a woman survive without sex for more than ten days in a row?

I nod, not sure whether to be ashamed or proud of my involuntary abstinence. “More than a year, actually. Roger and I didn’t exactly play hide le golf pencil for the last bit.”

“Well, your vagina has probably shrivelled into something that looks like a piece of dried fruit by now. Maybe a dirty romp with a French sausage is what you need.”

“My vagina is just fine, thank you.” I give her my best attempt at a snarl. “But this isn’t really about my naughty bits. It’s about me. I want to do something purely for myself. It’s been a long time since I’ve had that luxury.”

For a moment Jen’s face actually exhibits trace amounts of sympathy. This is what friends do—give you hell for your crazy decisions, then remember that they love you too much to be snarky for long.

“Fair enough,” she says. “Go to Paris and have a blast. You deserve it.”

I sit back in my seat and beam with satisfaction. She’s right.

I do.

“But there’s one thing I’m confused about,” she adds. Here it comes. “I thought you were looking for a new job? What happened to that plan?”

I bite my lip again. I do that when I’m nervous. “The search can wait a little while. Besides, I have another plan, one that I intend to set in motion while I’m in Paris.”

“Uh-huh.” Jen’s nodding, but her expression says What the hell are you up to?

“You know how my last job gave me a three-month severance because my boss was a douchebag with grabby hands and they didn’t want a sexual harassment lawsuit on their hands?”

“Yup, I’m all too familiar with Mr. Gropey and his penchant for ass-grabbery,” Jen replies, a flash of rage passing over her features. She and I have talked at length about my asshole former employer. Needless to say, she strongly encouraged my departure from the company where I worked as a woefully uninspired data entry specialist. Not only did I hate my job, but I hated that some days I was tempted to wear a sign that read:

My tits are not company property,

And my ass is not a hand-warmer.

“Well, that severance package gives me some time to ponder my next move. Plus…” Here it comes. The moment of truth. The greatest test our friendship has ever faced. Please, Jen, don’t snort-laugh at me. I muster every ounce of confidence that I have and look her in the eye. “I’ve been thinking, and I’ve decided I want to write a novel.”

“What?” The word shoots out of her like a bullet, her mouth dropping open for the hundredth time tonight. Everything I say is a shock to her system, poor woman. Well, at least she’s not snorting. Or laughing, for that matter.

“I have a degree in journalism and English Lit. I should be writing,” I tell her, determined to make her understand why I’d venture into a career that’s a massive financial risk, to put it mildly. “Writing is what I’ve always wanted to do.”

“Okay,” she says, placing her palms flat on the table. “Cool.”

I brace myself, ready to go on a tirade about how she should be more supportive, how this is my dream, how I want to be inspired by the romance of Paris, how…

Wait—was that it?

“Nothing?” I ask, dumbfounded. “No reaction?”

To my massive relief, her face lights up in the warmest smile I’ve ever seen. “Here’s my reaction: I want you to be happy. If writing makes you happy, you should do it. If going to Paris without your best friend makes you happy…”

“Ah ha! There’s the real issue at last,” I laugh. “You’re jealous as fuck.

“Of course I am. So jealous I could kill you.”

“That’s perfectly understandable. Just…do me one favour.”

“What?”

“Wait until after I get back to murder me, would you?”

A Most Unusual Princess by Award-Winning @KWilkinsauthor #romance #historicalromance

Amazon AMUP cover

Title: A Most Unusual Princess

Author’s Note: This is Book 1 of the Royal Desires Series. Although the books are connected, each story stands alone as an individual read.

Author: Kelli A. Wilkins

Genre: Historical/Fantasy Romance

Blurb:

A Most Unusual Princess

Princess Elara needs to find a royal husband, but claims that no man can satisfy her. Her father hires Dalton, a special guard, to watch over her while she’s courting suitors. Dalton finds her unusual behaviors charming—and enthralling.

Dalton’s aloof manner intrigues Elara, and despite their differences, they share tender moments and intimate nighttime encounters. Elara is heartbroken when her father chooses a “proper” husband for her—until she meets the mystery man.

Bonus! This e-book includes a sneak peek at the second book in the Royal Desires Series: A MOST INTRIGUING TEMPTATION.

Excerpt:

Dalton walked past her and entered her bedchamber. She stood in the doorway while he searched the wardrobes and looked under the bed. After last night’s fright, she was taking no chances.

“There’s nothing… a-ha! What’s this?” He pulled a white silk stocking out from under the bed and waved it in the air.

“Put that down.” She raced into the room and lunged for the stocking. Dalton held it over his head.

“Is this what a princess wears beneath her dress?”

“Give that to me.” She knocked him backward onto the bed and pounced on him.

“This would make a nice remembrance,” he said, keeping the stocking out of her reach.

“Beast!” She squirmed as they playfully struggled for the stocking. A moment later, Dalton turned his head and his lips brushed against hers.

She gasped. Dalton had stopped laughing and was staring up at her. She closed her eyes and felt his finger caress her cheek.

“You’re beautiful,” he whispered.

The next thing she knew, Dalton’s mouth covered hers. The feel of his warm, moist lips sent a searing heat through her. After a few seconds of heaven, he pulled away.

“I should not have done that.”

She licked her lips. “I’m glad you did. It was nice.” Her heart hammered out of control, and her lower body throbbed. This was the feeling she was supposed to have when she met with her suitors. “Kiss me again.”

“With pleasure.”

Dalton curled his arms around her and pulled her down onto him. His mouth moved against hers, and fire flashed between her legs. She kissed him, tentatively at first, then with more passion as she was swept away by desire.

He slid his hands across her back and down to her buttocks. She moaned as he squeezed her through her dress. Was this what it felt like to have a man make love to her? Every night should be like this.

She ignored a faint rapping on the sitting room door. It was probably a lady-in-waiting coming to undress her for bed. She needed no help with her clothes tonight. Dalton was here, he could remove her dress and then…

“Elara?”

Dalton broke the kiss and bolted upright. “It’s your father!”

Not Through Loving You by @pat_preston Spotlight + #Giveaway! #romance

NTLY with Med Red Heart

Title: NOT THROUGH LOVING YOU

Author: Patricia Preston

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Publisher: Lyrical Press/Kensington Books

Blurb:

In the Southern town of Lafayette Falls, a new life brings together a woman with everything to lose and a doctor with everything to prove.

When a sickly infant is surrendered at the Lafayette Falls Medical Center, and orphaned soon after, pediatrician Aaron Kendall arranges to adopt him. After a painful divorce, the busy baby doc is about to realize his own dream of becoming a father when the baby’s beautiful estranged aunt turns up. She doesn’t exactly approve of the Kendall bachelor pad complete with Aaron’s cranky dad and wacky brother, forcing Aaron to form a risky alliance with her.

Country singer-songwriter Lia Montgomery barely knew her half-sister, but she’s determined her tiny nephew goes to a good home. If only she fit the bill herself, but her stressful life on the road is no place for a baby. Yet despite her misgivings, as she gets to know Aaron, she realizes the smart and sexy doctor is everything a child could want in a dad and more unsettling, everything she’s ever hoped for in a man. After all she’s put him through, is it too late to form a family and maybe put a song in the good doctor’s heart?

Excerpt:

Aaron looked across the table at his brother and for a moment, all the fear and heartache bottled up inside him exposed itself in his voice. “I can’t go through losing a son for the second time.”

Stevie’s brow netted in a worried frown as he sat up straight. “Okay.” He tented his fingers. “So you’ve gotta get tight with the girl.”

“What are you talking about?” Aaron continued to squash the aluminum can. “I have nothing in common with Lia Montgomery.”

“You have the baby,” Stevie pointed out. “I know that’s not what you want, but it is what it is. And you need to make the most of it. Bro, women are not that hard. Listen to me. You’ve got this chick whose sister just died so she’s got all this guilt and grief going on. And then there’s the sister’s sick little baby. Okay, so what’s Lia gonna do? I mean, she’s family. She’s gotta do something or she’s gonna feel like crap about herself.”

“Stevie—” Aaron tried to cut in.

“You’re going at this ass-backwards by trying to scare her off. How’s that working for you? Acting like a jerk? No wonder she wants the baby transferred.”

Aaron threw the ball of crushed aluminum at Stevie, who caught it. “Just putting the truth out there,” Stevie said. “Of course, I know why you’re an asshole, but she doesn’t.”

Aaron glared at his kid brother, but he didn’t say anything.

“You gotta put on your sad face. Like this.” Stevie’s face crumpled so that he looked on the verge of tears. “It works every time. I promise.” He grinned. “You need to say you’re sorry for how things went today. Keep on the sad face. Then you tell her you really could use some help because the baby doesn’t have any clothes.”

“What? He’s in an incubator. He doesn’t need clothes.”

“It’s not about the baby needing clothes. For chrissakes, do you know nothing about women? It’s about shopping. The magic word. Shopping,” Stevie reiterated. “Tell her you’d like for her to pick out some clothes for the baby and, hey, decorate the nursery, too. She’ll go wild. Shopping for baby stuff. That’s like mainlining heroin for women.

“Tell her you want her to pick out some toys, too. And then you go from sad face to hopeful face. Like a dog waiting for a treat. And you say that with her help, you think you can be the best dad ever. Bingo! You win! She’ll be thrilled because she’ll get to feel good about herself and she’s getting to help with the baby. You got her hook, line, and sinker.”

“That’s crazy.”

“What’s crazy is you sitting out here, covered in sweat, having a pity party about the past. You’re missing the opportunity of a lifetime if you know what I mean. Call her.”

“I can’t call her. I don’t have her number.”

“You didn’t get her number? Holy shit.” Stevie threw the ball of aluminum back at Aaron who caught it. “You know, that’s standard protocol.”

“Maybe,” Aaron replied. “But in this case, she’s not available.”

Stevie leaned forward. “Every chick is available if you play your cards right, bro.”

Meet Alpha Male JD Watson from Happily Ever After by @RuthACasie #romance #TuesdayBookBlog

happily ever after FINAL

Hi, I’m JD Watson. Most of you know me as the love interest in Ruth A. Casie’s story, Happily Ever After. Ruth gave me quite a challenge. I’m the top selling author of the Jack Daniel series and enjoy writing my alpha hero. I use my initials because my agent didn’t think readers would buy my stories if they knew a man was writing romance. I’ve started a new series. It’s a collaborative effort with the brilliant Beth Alexander of NY Times and USA Today bestselling fame.

I fell in love with Beth’s character Jo Dee. She’s determined, witty, and smart. Jo Dee and her canine companion help the police solve crimes. A chance meeting made me realize Jo Dee had to be Beth’s alter ego. I bumped into her at industry events before I hit the lists and liked her more and more. One Christmas I had the opportunity to spend some time with her and knew she was special to me. She is smart, witty, and eventually I found out passionate. Yea, I’m a man in love.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Pen, paper and Beth are my idea of perfect happiness.

What is your current state of mind?

I’m glad the book Beth and I wrote is with our publisher and we can enjoy our vacation.

What do you most dislike about your appearance?

It’s not that I dislike it but my shoulders are wide and my waist and hips are narrow. Sometimes finding clothes is difficult. Beth tells me to take them off.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

Beth is my greatest love. I’ve loved her for a long time and don’t plan to ever stop.

What is your most treasured possession?

My most treasured possession is the silver pen my father gave me when I published my first book. There were tears in his eyes and mine.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Beth knew me as Jarred. My lowest depth of misery was when I let me agent convince me not to tell Beth I was JD Watson. Beth attributed her fall off the bestseller’s list to JD. When I told her the truth and saw the hurt and anger in her eyes I hated myself more than she did.

What is your favorite occupation?

No contest. My favorite occupation is author.

 Moments - Ruth 5

Title: Happily Ever After

Author: Ruth A. Casie

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Publisher: Timeless Scribes Publishing

Book Blurb:

From a fall from literary stardom to becoming the heroine in her own romance story, Beth Holmes has turned around her career and her love life. She owes it all to one very special person.

Jarred Watson has loved Beth since he read her first novel and suspected the heroine was the embodiment of the author. But the road to romance was fraught with pitfalls. He almost lost everything because of a conniving agent and a little white lie that got out of hand. At the eleventh hour, with honesty and hard work, their book sales are off the charts and a movie deal is in negotiations.

Interfering families and changed plans take their toll. Will they go their separate ways or will Holmes and Watson continue their literary collaboration and personal partnership in order to find their own happily ever after?

Excerpt:

“What have you found?” She pushed her research aside, more interested in what he had to say.

He put his pen down and sat back, his casual manner indicating he wasn’t in any hurry. A glint of humor lit his eyes, and an easy smile played at the corners of his mouth. The thrill of his obvious interest in her buoyed her spirits. Her smile broadened, it was the polite thing to do, although polite never entered her mind.

“Men tend to be task-oriented, not at all talkative. They’re more action oriented when it comes to dealing with emotions. Faced with a woman’s emotions, rather than listen, they try to fix it.”

That made her think. Visions of how her Detective Ryan reacted to Jo Dee ran through her mind. They weren’t in line with Jarred’s conclusion. Startled and intrigued by the revelation that Ryan’s reactions were more like those of a woman.

“Women, on the other hand,” she responded before he could say another word, “are intuitive, especially about the nonverbal cues like tone, emotion, and empathy. Because they’re good communicators they do well in groups, talk through the issues, and focus on how to create solutions that work for the group. You’re right. When men are faced with a woman’s emotion, they go right for the solution. But solutions are the last thing she wants. A woman wants comfort, cuddling, and empathy.”

“Interesting.” He chuckled. “Men are not known for their empathy.” He brought his chair closer to hers. “Like stress,” he said. “Under stress, men exhibit the “fight or flight” response.”

Beth nodded. She hadn’t considered the differences in gender reactions in that context. “Women don’t think fight or flight, at least not initially. Under stress they work to protect the group. It has to do with protecting the young and seeing to the family unit. They also think very differently about sex.”

A sly smile brightened his face. She wanted to slam her hand over her mouth.

“They do?” He dropped his voice to a low raspy whisper and sent chills, the good kind, up her back and to other places.

“For a woman, sex starts in their head, not necessarily between her legs.” Shit. Her face was so hot she was going to go up in flames. Jeez, that’s what Jo Dee would say, definitely not Beth Alexander.

“Oh really?” If she thought his soft, male mellow voice or his smoldering stare couldn’t get any sexier, she got that totally wrong.

“I’m a romance writer. I write about relationships and emotions,” she replied.

“And sex,” he added. Was he extending an invitation? She wasn’t a loose woman, but she was more than tempted to say yes. And that was her notion, not Jo Dee’s.

Meet Blushing Books @author_vanessa Liebe and her Latest Release! #eroticromance #romance

Vanessa Liebe

Are you an erotic romance reader? Well, today you’re in for a treat. We’re thrilled to have Blushing Books author Vanessa Liebe on the POTL Blog. We first met her when she approached us about featuring her Blakeney Brothers Adventure Romance series a few weeks ago. She loves to blend historical romance with adventure and sizzling hot sex scenes. We asked if she’d like to sit down with MRS N for an interview and she agreed. We loved learning more about her and she provides some excellent insight into publishing and marketing. Take it away, Vanessa:

What is your writing process?

Research and a rough plan. Then write out on paper to type and edit later on.

What book do you wish you could have written?

Books – The Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson. Awe inspiring!

How important are names to you in your books? Do you choose the names based on liking the way it sounds or the meaning?

Names are important. I try to fit them in with the time period if it’s a historical book and I have to like them 😊

Have you always liked to write?

Yes. I used to love writing stories as a kid and remember thinking it would be great to be published one day. I forgot about writing for a bit when I started work as an adult, but then I got into writing fan fiction. I enjoyed the responses I got and finally decided to submit some novels to publishers a few years ago.

Do you read your reviews? Do you respond to them, good or bad? Do you have any advice on how to deal with the bad?

Yes, I read my reviews and I respond to any on my blog tours. That is, I thank the person for writing them regardless of what they have written. I don’t respond to reviews elsewhere, especially Amazon as I was advised not to. I think that’s best, even though it would be nice to thank some people. As for bad reviews, I would sometimes like to know why someone thought what they did, but ultimately it’s not worth getting upset over. Someone told me that authors need a thick skin and it’s true. Although, I’m still developing mine 😊

What is your best marketing tip?

Start a marketing plan before you even submit a book or self publish, because it takes time to build a brand and to find what works best for you. I have tried several promotional techniques and some I wish I had discovered sooner.

What is your least favorite part of the publishing / writing process?

Writing the synopsis! I find it really hard to write a fantastic summary of my book. It’s always a relief not to have to write one as part of a submission process.

Do you have a favorite spot to write? What is it?

Out in the garden when it’s a beautiful sunny day. I have my pen and a notebook and that’s all I need.

What are you working on now? What is your next project?

I’m currently finishing off a contemporary erotic anthology and then I’m going to write the final Blakeney brother adventure.

Do you write naked?

No, but I sometimes write in my PJs.

What is your biggest failure?

Failure to write and submit to a publisher sooner. I could kick myself.

Have you ever been in trouble with the law?

Yes, but only for speeding.

Do you drink? Smoke? What’s your vice?

I do like my wine and I’m rather partial to a rose or the fruit wines such as strawberry & lime.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

The power to heal. It would be great to heal terminally ill kids especially.

What secret talents do you have?

I’m good at drawing and I can play soccer well.

Where is one place you want to visit that you haven’t been before?

I want to tour China, especially see the Great Wall.

Do you have any scars? What are they from?

I have a scar on the middle finger of my left hand. I sliced my finger open when cutting up carrots for some science experiment homework! It meant a trip to A&E.

What were you like as a child? Your favorite toy?

I was very shy and not confident at all. My favorite toy was my Sindy doll.

 TheHighwayman'sProposal_500x755 (2)

Title: The Highwayman’s Proposal

Author: Vanessa Liebe

Genre: Erotic Romance. Mystery/Suspense

Publisher: Blushing Books

Book Blurb:

Gabriel Blakeney is a man who protects those he loves at all costs. If that means becoming a highwayman to help support the community that raised him, then that’s what he’ll do. Risking his life each night, he robs from the rich to redistribute among the poor. He does it to survive. But what he’d really like is to find a woman of his own to protect and love. Despairing of ever finding her, things change one night when he meets Lady Caroline Godwin. Here is a lady who needs protecting, all right – from herself.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. And Caroline Godwin is desperate. Her father has lost a fortune at cards and is bed bound after a stroke. Somehow, she must raise the money within a month or lose her home. Worse, she may be forced to marry the despicable Lord Shard – her father’s creditor – to protect the family name and pay the debt. Frantic, Lady Caroline remembers being held up a few weeks ago. She makes the audacious decision to rob the handsome highwayman. But Caroline gets far more than she bargained for.

With card sharps, traitors, and the militia to worry about, Gabriel and Caroline find danger ever present. He is determined to keep her safe throughout, even if that means a trip over his knee.

Excerpt:

“Stand and deliver!”

The demand came loud and clear, as Lady Caroline Godwin’s coach came to a sudden stop. She sucked in a deep breath, holding onto the sides of her bench seat to brace herself against falling off. Her maid did the same, looking up at her in fright. “Oh, my lady. It’s a highwayman. I knew we shouldn’t have travelled at night.”

Lady Caroline couldn’t have agreed more. However, upon receiving news that her father was gravely ill and had lost a fortune at cards again, she knew she must leave London and return home. Travelling at night to get there as quickly as possible had seemed worth the risk. Not only did she need to know exactly how much her father had lost, she knew that her mother wouldn’t be able to cope with the situation. Her father had suffered a stroke immediately after losing and was currently bed bound.

Lady Caroline tried to reassure her maid. “I need you to be calm, Maisie. If we do as the rogue asks, we will come to no harm.” Yet after the initial shout, there was no sign of the highwayman. Furious both at her father for gambling away his money, and for getting stopped like this, Lady Caroline was feeling brave rather than scared. She was about to get out of the coach and see what was going on, when there were a few muffled curses from above them, a few thumps and then silence. She frowned, straining her ears to hear more.

“He’s going to kill us all!” cried Maisie fearfully, before fainting.

Lady Caroline looked at her maid lying in a crumpled heap on the bench seat opposite and couldn’t help feeling even crosser. “For heaven’s sake,” she muttered. And what has happened to my coachman and footman? “Frank? George?” she called out. She was met with silence.

She gasped as the door was suddenly pulled open and a tall, masked figure appeared, holding a pistol. The man, dressed all in black and with a tricorn hat on his head, looked around the coach, before returning his gaze to her. The pistol was aimed at her. “Good evening, my lady.”

Lady Caroline stared at him. The moonlight shone down on him, but didn’t reveal much, due to his dark clothing and black eye mask. She could make out sensual lips though, her gaze drawn to them because it was the only part of his face she could clearly make out. Then her gaze dropped to the pistol aimed at her and she felt renewed anger. He’d caused her maid to faint, he’d done god knows what to her male servants and now he was aiming a weapon at her. She raised her chin and glared at him. “It was a good evening, until you came along,” she told him. “What have you done to my coachman and footman?”

The highwayman had the nerve to grin at her. “They’re gagged and bound, my lady. But unhurt.”

He climbed into the carriage, sitting down opposite her, on the edge of the seat, next to her unconscious maid. “Now, if you don’t mind handing over some of your baubles, I will leave you in peace.”

Thanks to her father, Lady Caroline didn’t have much in the way of jewelry. What she did have held no value. She looked down her nose at him. “I’m afraid you’ve robbed the wrong coach tonight.”

One Year Left by J. C. Robinson is a Touching #NewAdult #Romance! #bookreview

One Year Left

Title: One Year Left

Author: J. C. Robinson

Genre: New Adult Romance

Book Blurb:

In the last year of his life, Will moves to Portland in search of happiness, but the disappointment and despair of his past aren’t influenced by distance. Then he meets his new roommate, Kristen. Even with her own emotional scars, she’s everything he’s ever wanted. The trouble is, old habits are hard to break and if they can’t find a way to move forward, they risk losing their best chance at love.

My Review:

Readers of Nicholas Sparks and John Green (Fault in Our Stars) will love this new adult romance.

What would you do if you were given one year left to live? What would you focus on and what if the Universe matched you up with the perfect girl? Would you pursue it to see what happens or would you keep your distance, knowing you have little time left?

Such is the dilemma for Will. He’s got one year to live and decides to seize the moment in a big way. He moves to Portland, works with his best friend at a food truck, trying to figure out life. He meets his new roommate, Kristen, and is immediately smitten. She’s everything he wants in a girlfriend but she’s unavailable. He decides it’s better to be in her life than not at all. But when she finds herself sans boyfriend, Will makes his move. Will the past continue to hold them back, destroying their shot at love, or can they overcome all odds together?

Such a great romance, reminiscent of Nicholas Sparks, and I really enjoyed reading it. Realistically written with honest dialogue and relatable characters. I hated Kristen’s boyfriend and was happy when he was out of the picture. The relationship between Will and Kristen developed naturally and the conflicts were very real. There’s not a lot of character growth with Will and Kristen but that’s just a personal preference. Robinson doesn’t hold back Will’s dark thoughts on death and dying. I found it refreshing and somewhat inspiring.

If you’re looking for a sweet romance dealing with love, romance, healing from the past and terminal illness, pick up One Year Left. You’ll be glad you did!

Favorite Character/Quote: “I like your…” He looked me in the eyes and I saw him take in the entirety of me visible above the table. “I like your everything, to be honest.”

Excerpt:

“The sunlight was intense after a half hour in that gloomy space, but I squinted hard and kept moving toward a narrow set of steps down to the parking lot. Grady walked a few paces behind me, and if he heard the crinkle of paper as I moved, he elected not to say anything.

Grady hit the remote to his truck and grabbed for the passenger side door, his hand light on my elbow as he helped me up. Paper crackled as my butt hit the seat and Grady’s eyes narrowed. Without a word, he slammed my door and went around to the driver’s side, climbing up into the cab and stabbing the keys into the ignition.

“So, I—” I hesitated as I shifted in my seat and my movement was accompanied by the distinct sound of cardboard bending.

“No,” Grady muttered, and clicked on the radio. “No talking.”

“But—”

“Shh.” Grady put a finger to his lips, his eyes still on the road. “Any minute you’re going to tell me about the felony crime you just committed. And then I’m going to have to deal with the fact that I was an accessory to a felony crime.”

“Umm, yeah.” I reached around to the back of my pants and eased the file folder up from my waistband, working it out slowly so as to not lose anything as Grady headed up the hillside toward his house. As I brought it around to look at it, the red block letters damning me to years of incarceration should I get caught, a muscle ticked in Grady’s jaw.

“You stole classified documents.” He shook his head from side to side.

I looked up at Grady and then down at the mangled file with the red Top Secret heading. I took a corner of the front sheet and ripped across the width of the page, separating the words “Top Secret” from the rest of the paper.

“They’re declassified now.” I crumpled up the classification and shoved it in my pocket.

Grady sighed.

I shrugged and opened the file.

Curl Up With Cass From Undone by @LiviaQuinn This Summer! #romance #beachreads #IARTG #ASMSG

vacation-2217498_640

Is it hot where you are? Do you have a trip to the beach planned this summer?

When I was a kid our favorite beach spot was Ocean City, Maryland. I remember sitting on the bottom when the tide went out with the water up to my shoulders and tiny gentle waves washing toward me. I’ve tried to recreate that effect in my adult life. It was such a serene relaxing experience.

These days, I live on the bayou with alligators and such so getting in the water isn’t as enticing an experience. But one thing I remember was packing my beach bag with books, a beach towel and sunscreen so I could stretch out and wile away the hours with a great book.

If you like a great spicy love story, you might like to pack Undone, my sexy romantic adventure in your book bag or on your e-reader. I fell in love with Cass McKay, the sexy Aussie gem hunter when I first met him. And I fell in love with his picture on the cover even though it didn’t show his face. I’ve never considered redoing the cover because well, it’s just so Cass. I hope you love him, too. It’s available on all retailers.

Title   Undone

Author  Livia Quinn

Genre Contemporary Romance

Book Blurb

When Aussie gem hunter Cass McKay appears unexpectedly on Elektra’s design shop doorway, her reasons for sending him away a year ago become…complicated, their passion for each other and her dark secret, intricately entwined. The truth will put their love and lives in danger.

One year ago, on the eve of Carnival, Elektra broke their engagement after the “Blood” opal was stolen from them. No one steals from Cass, especially not when it cost him the woman he loves.

Elektra’s reason for breaking their engagement has now come back to bite her. Cass intends to return to Brazil, putting himself in danger to retrieve her opal, in hopes that Elektra will give their relationship another chance.

Staying out of Cass’ bed isn’t an option if she’s going to keep him safe, but coming clean might make things worse. Elektra is walking a tightrope between desire and deceit, and the truth will endanger not only their love, but their lives.

Exclusive Excerpt

A low animal growl sounded from deep in his chest as he halted, still deep within her, his chest heaving in agonizing uneven breaths. In a single fluid motion, he levered himself off of her to sit on the edge of the bed.

Oh my God, what was happening to them? Agony clamped down on her heart. How could she make this right? Shoulders slumped; he held his shaking hands in front of his face as if he didn’t recognize them as his own. “I’m sorry,” He whispered raggedly.

“Cass—”

Cass held up an unsteady hand. He only had a few words left and he wanted to get them said. He wiped his hand over his face, disgusted. Looking down he saw the rose petals crushed and broken beneath his feet. Like his heart.

He’d done it again; he’d given up his self-respect to this woman who only wanted him for sex and a piece of glorified rock. And this time he’d forced himself on her in an act not entirely of love.

It was over.

He placed his fingers on her chin and waited until she returned his gaze. “When are you going to figure out that you became the successful, intelligent, creative woman you are, despite that sonofabitch of a father? You might flash the Blood in your father’s face, but you’ll only be disappointed if you think it will make him respect you.”

“No, I—”

He pulled his pants on, his shoulders hunched, shook his head. When he turned to her, she ached at the pain and defeat in his eyes.

“You’re terrified of relying on someone, on me— trusting me.”

She couldn’t speak because what he said was true. At least it had been— once.

He stroked her cheek, a slight tremor in his fingers then his hand dropped to his side, “You’re breaking my heart, sheila.”

He walked to the door, said quietly, “Whatever it takes, I’ll get your opal. Then maybe I can move on.”

“But—” he’d tuned her out.

“I won’t touch you again.” As if all his energy had been drained, he rested his forehead against the hard wood. “I have to try to move on.”

Then he was gone.

Don’t Look Back by Vicki Tharp @vwtharp #romanticsuspense #books

Title: Don’t Look Back

Author: Vicki Tharp

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Book Blurb:

Ridley Meyer’s latest murder left him unsatisfied, but the spitfire with the U-haul may provide just the challenge he craves.

Veterinarian Audrey West is running out of time, yet she is determined to keep her inherited home out of foreclosure. With no more than a dream, a prayer, and a packed U-Haul, West moves back home to complete the expensive repairs. Just when Audrey thinks she might pull off the impossible, she finds her dream is not the only thing being followed.

Scott Romero has it all—money, ambition and a growing reputation as the city’s top veterinary surgeon. However, when his best friend Audrey is abducted by a killer, Scott realizes what he doesn’t have and he must risk losing his job, and his life, to save her.

Don’t Look Back was a 2007 Romantic Suspense finalist in the Romance Writer’s of America Golden Heart writing contest.

Excerpt:

He leaned in to scrutinize his work. “Let me see.”

She turned toward him.

He pushed her hand out of the way. He poked. He prodded. He pressed. “I did Doctor Frankenstein proud. Maybe my step-mother was right. I should’ve been a real doctor. At least I wouldn’t have risked my veterinary license stitching you up.”

“I don’t—”

“I know. I know. You don’t like hospitals.”

“It’ll take more than a little thump to get me in one again.”

“Little thumps don’t require stitches. Little thumps don’t give you a concussion. And little thumps don’t get you almost killed.”

“Not this again.”

“Yes. This again.”

He raised his hands and took a step back. “Do me a favor.”

“What’s that?”

“The next time one of your clients waves a gun around, stay out of the way.”

“What in the purple hell did you expect me to do? Let her kill herself?”

“You should’ve gone for help.”

“Ms. Sims wasn’t trying to hurt me. Her dog, her baby, dropped dead. She was distraught, disturbed. If I hadn’t nosedived into the bench grabbing for the gun, I doubt I’d’ve had a scratch on me.” Audrey squeezed her head to keep it from exploding.

“You’re not Superwoman. Bullets won’t bounce off you.”

She didn’t have the energy for this. “Finished?”

“Not hardly.” Scott tilted his head and gave her that sexy half-smile. That devilish smile. That maddening smile the lucky few had followed to his bed.

It was too painful to think about, and not just because of her headache, so she pushed it from her mind. “Thanks for letting me crash at your place last night. And for stitching me up.”

She’d stuffed everything she owned into her truck and U-Haul trailer. That wasn’t saying much since the truck and trailer were small.

“Staying at a hotel by yourself with a concussion wasn’t and option. As for the other, I don’t know how you talked me into it. You’ll probably have a scar.”

“Not a problem as long as your malpractice is paid.”

A laugh rumbled his chest, but the smile quickly slid from his lips. “You should stay a day or two. Make sure you’re really okay.”

Audrey scooched back and propped herself up against the leather headboard. Her brain protested behind the fireworks and the nine-piece drumline. “I’ve only got thirty days to finish the repairs on my uncle’s house. I have to leave today. I’ll call you from the road, let you know I haven’t bled out into my head.”

“Not funny.” Scott frowned but kept her gaze. “I’m due at the animal hospital at seven. I’m going to miss having you around. Guess I can’t talk you into staying for good, huh?”

“What?” Her voice jumped two octaves. “Who’s the one who stood in my kitchen two weeks ago and told me I should go? ‘This is your last chance to make good on your promise to your uncle,’ you said. ‘Take a chance on your dream,’ you said. Don’t even—”

“Down, girl.” Scott eased her back into the pillows with a hand on her shoulder.

Thank God. Hells-bells clanged in her head.

“Forget I said anything. At least sleep for a few more hours and then head out. You don’t look so hot.”

No kidding.

He patted her leg and by the way he didn’t get up to leave, she knew he wanted to say more, but he wasn’t any better at goodbyes than she was. Then Scott braced his hands on either side of her head, and planted a quick kiss on her nose. Like an adult to a child.

It might have hurt less if he’d eviscerated her with a spork.

She was leaving Texas. This morning. For good.

She snagged his tie. “If that’s the best you can do, Romero, it’s no wonder your girlfriends leave you.”

Why had she baited him? He couldn’t refuse a challenge, any more than a dachshund could refuse table scraps.

Was her mind muddled from the concussion? Or was she finally thinking clearly? One kiss. That’s all she wanted.

Like a lover, not a friend. Stupid. He’d locked her in the friend-zone years ago.

Except for the night of her high school graduation.

And two weeks ago when he’d convinced her she should leave.

The look in his eyes was the same now as then. Want, need, hunger.

Hand over hand she pulled him down. His lips brushed hers. Her breath caught. She blamed the

concussion. Her hands trembled. She blamed the pain. Her heart hurt. She blamed herself.

She wrapped her arms around his neck, deepened the kiss, tasted the coffee on his tongue, smelled the subtle tang of surgical scrub that never quite left his skin. She tilted her head, and he nipped her lips, traced the line of her jaw and down to her pounding pulse at the base of her neck. She guided him on top of her, his weight braced on his arms, but she drew him down until his full weight pinned her.

She floated.

No fears, no worries, no will power.

No wondering if she should stop or if she could stop – because she didn’t want to stop.

Fat Girl Begone! by @dehaggerty is #RomanticComedy Gold! #bookreview #romance #RRBC

FatGirlBegone_final

Title: Fat Girl Begone!

Author: D. E. Haggerty

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Romantic Comedy

Book Blurb:

I’m a total mess. My boyfriend dumped me – get this – because I diet too much. Not because I’m fat, mind you. Of course, this spurs me into the diet-fitness-revenge-plan of the century, which leads me to the gym and a scorching hot personal trainer. I even manage to make some cool new friends, including a millionaire if you can believe it. Things are looking up! Naturally, that’s the moment my ex decides he wants me back, the personal trainer asks me out, and my millionaire male buddy decides to throw his hat in the ring. But that’s not enough drama. No, not for me. Because I’ve also lost my job and decided to start my own business. Just call me Ms. Drama.

Warning: Bad language, bumpy roads, and embarrassing moments ahead. But there’s also more than a bit of romance and even, if we’re lucky, love. Fingers crossed.

Not endorsed by or affiliated with any brand of tequila.

My Review:

Everly is having a bad day. First, her boyfriend dumps her because, and I quote, “I diet too much and don’t love myself.” Yeah, talk about a douchebag. So she calls up her best friend, Blaze, and there’s lots of tequila drinking. The next morning, Blaze picks her up and drags her to the gym to meet up with Evie’s brand new hotter than hot personal trainer. Yup, while drunk on tequila, Evie signed up for a gym membership and six months personal training sessions. Why? Because she, like most of us women out there when we get dumped, wants to have a great bod when she runs into her ex again and have him beg to take her back.

But the universe has a funny sense of humor. While Evie wants to lose weight to show up her ex, Josh, she meets two hot guys who are interested in dating her. There’s her drop-dead gorgeous personal trainer, Gabriel, who flirts with her and then asks her out for a date. Then there’s the cute but geeky Carter, a member at the gym who’s clearly interested in her. Which one will Evie choose?

I’m a huge Haggerty fan and pretty much anything she writes is romantic comedy gold. I’m serious. Move over Kinsella and Fielding, you’ve got competition with D. E. Haggerty. Not only does she create such life-like characters and situations (has she been stealing my diary?), but she’s one of the few writers out there who’s got the gift for comedic timing. It takes talent to blend humorous situation with laugh out loud (yes, I’m peeing my pants) dialogue and Haggerty’s got it in spades.

Okay, let’s talk about Fat Girl Begone! and what I loved about it. I instantly connected with Everly and her over-fascination with her “jiggly” bits. She’s just been dumped and suddenly finds herself trying to keep up with the beautiful gym people. Hey, I’ve been there and done that. Then, she’s got three men trying to win her attention. I love Carter best but that could be my inner geek coming out. Everly’s best friend (Blaze) is the best friend in the world and has got Evie’s back! She’s my favorite character next to Everly and Carter. She loves her best friend and wants the best for her. Every gal has to have a bestie like Blaze, who tells it like it is.

If you love romantic comedy and all the hijinx that comes along with life’s ups and downs, Fat Girl Begone! is a must-read! I loved it so much and it’s Haggerty’s best book to date!

Favorite Character/Quote:

“You’re not getting this. You’re it for me. I feel it in my bones. You’re not out of my league. Your league is so far above mine, I’m surprised you even noticed me let alone looked down and smiled upon me.”

And a bonus second quote because they’re both my favorite quote(s) –

And then we celebrate. Without clothes. The best kind of celebrating there is.

Author Biography:

I grew-up reading everything I could get my grubby hands on from my mom’s Harlequin romances to Nancy Drew to Little Women. When I wasn’t flipping pages in a library book, I was penning horrendous poems, writing songs no one should ever sing, or drafting stories which have thankfully been destroyed. College and a stint in the U.S. Army came along, robbing me of free time to write and read, although on the odd occasion I did manage to sneak a book into my rucksack between rolled up socks, MRIs, t-shirts, and cold weather gear. After surviving the army experience, I went back to school and got my law degree. I jumped ship and joined the hubby in the Netherlands before the graduation ceremony could even begin. A few years into my legal career, I was exhausted, fed up, and just plain done. I quit my job and sat down to write a manuscript, which I promptly hid in the attic after returning to the law. But being a lawyer really wasn’t my thing, so I quit (again!) and went off to Germany to start a B&B. Turns out being a B&B owner wasn’t my thing either. I polished off that manuscript languishing in the attic before deciding to follow the husband to Istanbul where I decided to give the whole writer-thing a go. But ten years was too many to stay away from adopted home. I packed up again and moved to The Hague where I’m currently working on my next book. I hope I’ll always be working on my next book.

Fat Girl Begone! is my eleventh book.

happily ever after FINAL

Book Blurb

Taya Monroe is trying to pick up the pieces of her failed writing career and broken life after walking out on her cheating fiancé. The last thing she needs is a serious relationship. The last thing she wants is a fling. Then she runs into an old friend and ski partner—the one man she always wanted who never wanted her.

Ski Patroller Jordan Wiley is a single dad with zero time or energy for dating. When he reconnects with Taya, his attraction to her is even stronger than before she left him behind for a career in the city. But with a young son to think about, he’s determined to ignore his feelings. Again.

After a magical day on the slopes, a snow storm traps them in an avalanche of chemistry neither can deny. Will their friendship survive the weight of their passion or will they surface as more than friends?

Excerpt

“Monroe.”

My last name floated over the buzz of chair lifts and chatting skiers, but I ignored it. Monroe was a common name. And I didn’t know anyone in Washington.

I shifted on my knees, gripped the lever, and yanked again. Nothing moved. With a growl, I yanked harder. The lever broke free with a pop. I rocked back on my heels and snapped the seats into place.

“Taya Monroe.”

This time the voice pulled me upright so fast I whacked my head on the padded ceiling. Monroe might be a common name, but I’d never met another Taya.

I backed out of the hatch, planted my feet in the snow, and looked around the small, almost empty emergency parking lot. A tall, broad-shouldered man wearing a black helmet, mirrored goggles, and a red ski-patrol jacket stood near the entrance to the old, wooden first aid shack. I couldn’t see his eyes but I could’ve sworn he was staring at me. My hands dropped to my sides as I strained to identify him.

“Don’t you recognize me? I’m hurt.”

A familiar shiver ran down my spine. That deep, smooth voice. That sensual mouth curving into an impish grin. The hairs on the back of my neck stood at attention, almost quivering.

Jordan Wiley.

A ball of excitement bloomed in the pit of my stomach. “Jordan!”

I made it all of two steps before his long legs brought him close enough to sweep me into a spinning hug, the heavy weight of my ski boots flying behind me. His strong arms engulfed me. I melted into him, heat fusing us together through our jackets and layers. As my boots crunched on the snow-covered ground, frigid air filled the space where his body had been.

Jordan kept his left arm draped over my shoulders and squeezed me close, making up for the sudden separation of our torsos. My right arm twined around his waist. When he pulled his goggles up onto his helmet the full force gaze of his warm brown eyes washed over me, and my knees went weak.

“What are you doing here?” My brain struggled to process the sudden reappearance of my old friend in my life, while my body reacted the same way it always did around Jordan—inappropriately.

New Beginnings have given the Levesque girls a new start in life, will More Beginnings be another chance for them?

♥♦♥ EXCERPT ♥♦♥
Zach Taylor’s young neighbour, Mia, let out a long sigh as she joined him on his front porch and sat next to him on the swing. Enjoying a cool lemonade, he invited her to grab a soft drink from the fridge as well. It was a warm summer day, and the air showed no sign of cooling down. A lot of people in Hobart were weary of the unusual hot spell for
the very southern Australian city.
With another hefty sigh, Mia raked through her long, blond hair and stared into the distance. “Honestly, Zach, she’s a dragon. I’m sure she does it on purpose. She doesn’t like me. She thinks I’m spoilt.”
The dragon in question was Miss Peterson, Mia’s high school English teacher. There was no doubt that Mia liked school, and she enjoyed her classes. And even though English wasn’t her worst subject, it certainly was the toughest one, with Miss Peterson piling on
homework one after the other.
Zach took a sip of his drink before he replied, “Hey, pumpkin, settle down. What’s that supposed to mean you’re ‘spoilt’?”
She lifted her shoulder in a slight shrug. “You know!”
Raising his brows, he replied, “Actually I don’t know! Isn’t she Sophie’s good friend?”
Another shrug. “Kind of, I suppose. They used to do the boxing stuff together, and since Soph’s carrying a baby, they go and enjoy coffee and cake instead every once in a while.”
Ignoring his chuckle, she went inside and helped herself to cold lemonade. She opened the can with a simple click as she returned outside and took a long sip.

Viable Threat by @JulieRoweAuthor is a Sizzling #RomanticSuspense #bookreview #TuesdayBookBlog

ViableThreat_500

Title: Viable Threat

Author: Julie Rowe

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Book Blurb:

Special Forces soldier and medic Walter River would give anything to snatch more than a few seconds of down time to see if he can rattle the no-nonsense and incredibly hot Dr. Lloyd he’s protecting, but dodging explosions, snipers, and student radicals who’ve unleashed a lethal bio-engineered microorganism have made that almost impossible. Maybe he’ll get a chance—if he can figure out how to keep them both alive.

CDC microbiologist Ava Lloyd races to find a cure for a bio-terrorism organism sweeping El Paso. The few stolen moments with her very hunky bodyguard River have been explosive, but no matter how alluring he is, she can’t afford to get distracted. The clock is ticking, people are dying by the hundreds, and once this crisis is solved, they’ll both be off on their next assignment, thousands of miles apart.

My Review:

Special Forces soldier and medic River “just call me River ma’am” gets a call from the head of the CDC (Center for Disease Control) to come at once to a local hospital. There’s an outbreak of some deadly disease and she commands him to watch over Dr. Ava Lloyd, a microbiologist. He’s armed and ready for anything but one minute in Dr. Floyd’s presence and he’s smitten. She’s hot and smart… a total turn-on.

Ava has seen her share of outbreaks but this one doesn’t respond to any antibodies and those who’re responsible are a mystery. It’s chemically altered and as the bodies pile up, every agency from the CDC to Homeland Security is on the case. Is it a terrorist attack or something deadlier? Working with River sets her body aflame but she promised herself she’d never trust her heart to a soldier again. Can he be trusted or is it just a fling?

I’m a huge fan of Julie Rowe and this is her best book yet! The stakes couldn’t be higher and the attraction between River and Ava set my tablet aflame. You wouldn’t think that being blown up a few times while wearing hazmat suits would be sexy but you’d be wrong. The action scenes were intense and there were times when I was afraid Ava or River might die. There’s plenty of romance, although since many lives are at stake, Ava and River take it whenever and wherever they can. I connected with both Ava and River immediately and almost cried when it ended. I wanted more!

Ripped from the headlines, Viable Threat is an adrenaline-rushing romantic suspense and a must read! The ending left it open for a sequel so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Favorite Character/Quote: Ava. I loved how brilliant she is (hello microbiologist) while being tough as nails and yet, there’s a vulnerability when it comes to the opposite sex and love. She’s all business when she first meets River and bristles at his nickname for her. But the more they work together, her walls come down and we catch a glimpse of the real woman underneath.

EXCERPT:

She stared into his deep blue eyes, feeling the warmth of them. Her stomach somersaulted. Holding him this close was dangerous. She tried to warn herself but her body refused to listen to the commands her brain was sending out. He watched her intently. What was he thinking? Her heart beat sped up until it was pounding in her chest. The heat from his body liquefied her muscles and his manly scent, so intoxicating to her filled her lungs.

Pressed up against him, she could feel every hard pane of his chest. Her breath caught in her throat as desire flooded her. She shifted, an urgent ache gathering between her legs. Her mouth dried even as her belly quivered. Moving her hands from around his neck, she cupped his jaw.

Adelaide swallowed with difficulty. He wasn’t pushing her away—nor was he encouraging her.

Insufferable man.

Whatever happened between them would be her choice she knew. She—Adelaide Montgomery—for the first time in her life needed to make the first move and the idea both thrilled and terrified her.

“Adelaide—”

She cut him off when she crushed her lips against his. She didn’t think, just felt. Allowing desire to take her where it wanted to go. While afraid of rejection, the fear of always wondering ‘what if’ overrode her reservations and made her bolder than she’d ever been before. She took what she wanted, and she wanted him.

His lips were soft beneath her own as his hand on her back pushed her more firmly into him, stoking the fires within, feeling almost brazen as she sucked on his tongue and he moaned.

She deepened the kiss, one hand sliding into his hair and tilting his head for better access. His tongue rasped against hers, sending delicious tingles down her spine. She had never kissed like this before—never had been kissed like before. What more had she never experienced before? It was one thing to be told what you were missing, it was quite another to be teased with the promise.

Antonio’s hand slowly inched up her thigh and beneath the towel, finally resting on her bottom. A hot rush of liquid heat pooled between her thighs. Every touch made her feel beautiful and cherished. Her body burned with delicious heat, a firestorm of sensation and yet she didn’t want to put it out, only to feed the flames more until it was consuming her. Until her entire consciousness was blind of all things except this burning need.

A bride, jail and the man of her dreams: One Night Behind Bars by @melissa_keir #romance

onenightbehindbars (1)

Title: One Night Behind Bars

Author: Melissa Keir

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Small Town Romance

Book Blurb:

A Bride, Jail and the Man of her Dreams…

Instead of marrying the man of her dreams, bride-to-be Jeannie Hall spends the night behind bars accused of domestic terrorism. Her groom loses no time marrying someone else. As if this isn’t enough, when she’s cleared of the charges and released, she becomes the target of a vengeful person, and the stakes keep getting higher.

Deputy Hank Walker knows the beautiful woman is innocent, but he was forced to do his duty. Determined to find out who set her up, he starts digging deeper and vows to protect the woman who had stolen his heart.

Master matchmaker Draikoh San arranges for Jeannie and Hank to have a night to remember, but when a killer comes after them, will the two lovebirds end up wearing body bags or wedding rings?

Excerpt:

“A customer…sorta. Maybe this will jog your memory.” The woman swung her arm, flashing a diamond bracelet.

The bracelet clicked in her mind, and she recalled helping Clinton pick it out. Her stomach plummeted as the events of her “almost” wedding day flew through her mind. Her happiness faltered.

“I can see you’ve realized who I am.” Her shark grin firmly in place, the woman whispered, “I’m Clinton’s wife…not you.”

Taking a deep breath, Jeannie let it blow out slowly between her lips. Today was the day she’d dreaded. She was finally face-to-face with the woman who had stolen her dream. “Congratulations.” She forced the words out between tightly closed teeth. “I read in the tabloids about the wedding. Funny how closely your dress resembled my own. So, other than gloating, what brings you in today?”

“You’re being very calm for someone who lost the love of her life,” she sneered.

“I’ve come to realize Clinton couldn’t have loved me if he married you when I was unavailable for a few hours.” She raised an eyebrow and cocked her head. “Again—can I help you with a purchase?”

“Have you really forgotten Clinton’s kisses? His shy laughter? Or are you putting up a front for me?” Susan pointed to Jeannie’s bare finger. “It’s obvious there’s no one else in your life. Maybe you’re still pining for my husband.”

Susan clearly had no plans to make a purchase. No longer playing nice, Jeannie gritted her teeth. “My love life isn’t any of your business. If you aren’t here to shop, why are you here?”

Susan straightened her shoulders and glared. “Don’t get all snippy with me.”

Jeannie refused to rise to the bait, and silence lingered until it became uncomfortable. She had learned to use not talking to her advantage and had all day to wait.

An Unsuitable Duchess by Kathleen Buckley + @WildRosePress #historicalromance #books

Title     An Unsuitable Duchess

Author   Kathleen Buckley

Genre    Historical Romance

Publisher    The Wild Rose Press, Inc.

Book Blurb

After her guardian’s death, Anne Sinclair comes to Town seeking an interesting gentleman to marry. With only a competence, she means to find a man with broad interests, rather than broad estates. But why did her guardian think it might be difficult for her to make a match? She means to find out, only to learn that the London of 1740 can be dangerous for a young lady of small fortune and inquiring mind. Lord John Anniscote unexpectedly inherits inherits the title and responsibilities of his dissolute brother, the Duke of Guysbridge, including houses, servants, tenants, and the need to provide himself with an heir. Formerly poor, cynical, and carefree, he finds himself hunted by marriage-minded females. When a plot against a young lady up from the country touches his honor, the new duke takes a hand to safeguard her reputation and repair his own.

Excerpt

Then Anne saw books in a window. There was no resisting the joys of a bookshop. Besides, how could a young lady fall into trouble in a bookseller’s?

“I will be some time looking at the books, I fear. Perhaps you should go to the draper to choose some ribbon,” she suggested, taking several shillings from her purse. “Something to furbish up that green dress, and get some for yourself, too. Don’t hurry back.”

Sally agreed cheerfully.

Anne slipped into the shop, noting that the proprietor was assisting someone at the back, and apart from them, it was empty. So much the better. Anne settled her spectacles on her nose and was soon deep in A Curious Herbal, a reference of plants with medicinal uses and very fine illustrations by Elizabeth Blackwell. How her grandfather would have enjoyed it! She jumped a little when someone spoke at her shoulder.

“Who would have thought a fair damsel would stoop to wear eyeglasses? Indeed, who would have believed you such an avid reader?”

“I beg your pardon, sir!”

Anne blinked at the tall, loose-jointed man smiling down at her. It was an odious smile—condescending, knowing, arrogant—the gentleman from the coffee house. He wore no wig, and his own hair was dark and without powder. His coat and breeches were of good plum-colored cloth but rather plain, except for the coat’s handsome buttons. His waistcoat was fawn silk. She approved his style if not the man himself. Anne had noted that the extreme of men’s fashion in London seemed to run to bright colors and excess ornament.

“Ah, Mistress Propriety! How well you do it, too, and no chaperon in evidence. Did it give you some trouble to find me here?”

“I believe you must have mistaken me for another,” Anne replied, clutching the large volume to her breast. She glanced toward the counter, but the bookseller was paying no attention. Why would he? The gentleman’s voice was low and would not carry so far. She could raise her voice, of course, which would attract the shop owner’s attention. But she looked no more than a servant or a girl of the middling sort. The proprietor was unlikely to take her part rather than the gentleman’s. And if there was a scene, she would never feel she could come back to the shop.

“Sir, I beg you will remove yourself, as your presence is distasteful to me.” Anne did her best to mimic the frigid tone she had once or twice heard Lady Beaton use to insolent menials.

“What have I done to offend you, I wonder? Well, I would certainly not wish to give offense to a…lady.” The tone in which the last was uttered was itself an insult. “Until we next meet.”

He gave an ironic little bow and strolled out before Anne could think to retort, “Sir, we have not yet met at all.”

Kathleen Buckley

Author Biography

When she was three years old, Kathleen Buckley’s father bought a set of the Encyclopaedia Britannica. Big books! With all kinds of words (and pictures) in them! By the age of twelve, she knew she wanted to write fiction (she also wanted to be a journalist, a spy and a spaceperson—but NASA wasn’t accepting female spacepersons then). She never became a journalist because she hates asking pushy questions, nor a spy, because she’s not good with foreign languages, has bad eyes and is not athletic. But along the way, she worked in a hospital billing department, as a bookkeeper in a print shop, as a paralegal, and as a security officer. In semi-retirement, she began to write full-time, at least when not pursuing her other hobbies: reading, cats, cooking, costume projects, and spinning wheel repair. And no, she can’t spin. That will have to come after the spinning wheel repair…

Ella’s Triple Pleasure by @AnnaLores #EroticRomance #books #TWRP

perf5.000x8.000.indd

Title: Ella’s Triple Pleasure

Author: Anna Lores

Genre: Erotic Romance

Book Blurb:

This work contains mature content, including graphic sexual descriptions and scenes, and is provided for adults only.

It takes three men to satisfy one woman’s needs…

Single mom and massage therapist Ella Winthrop isn’t looking for a relationship. She has enough problems without risking a business that barely meets her needs. Then her world is turned upside down by three men, each offering something she isn’t prepared for—love so deep it hurts, sex so hot she’s afraid she’ll melt from the pleasure, and a future beyond her wildest dreams.

Steamy businessman Cade Jackson has it all—money, looks, a giving heart, and a dominant nature—but Ella refuses to date a client even if she’s lusted after him for a year. After his brother’s death, Garrett Winthrop moves back to town opening old wounds and even darker fantasies. Dr. Derek McGregor gives her balance and understanding that speaks to her soul. All three men force Ella to question the limits of a traditional relationship.

Excerpt:

A cold breeze swept over them, cooling off skin drenched with the heat of lust. No woman had ever affected him so intensely. No woman had ever refused to date him. No woman but beautiful and sweet Ella Winthrop.

She shivered.

“Are you cold?” He stopped in the darkness of the forest. He should have thought about the cool nights here and brought dinner up to the main house. He needed to be more considerate. “I can give you my shirt.”

He let go of her hand and lifted his tee. He was boiling walking next to her. He was more than eager to take off his shirt or anything else he could get off for that matter. He

wanted to be naked between the bed sheets, or up against a tree, or in the grass, or hell, anywhere he could get her into a compromising position. But he had rules for a lasting relationship. Take things slow.

“No, no.” She shivered again. A pink blush filled her cheeks. “I’m not cold.”

She reached for the hem of his dark T-shirt halfway up his chest, but her warm hands touched his bare abs. She told the truth. She wasn’t cold. Maybe her reluctance in the car was because she wanted him as much as he wanted her.

He breathed in and slowly exhaled as her hand glided down to the waistband of his jeans. Please, a little farther. Unbutton them. Make the first, big move. Show me you want me so I can take over.

He tightened his abs, showing off the top and middle of his eight-pack.

She shivered again. Her breathing turned shallow. She stepped closer, and he swore she made a soft, moaning sound like she had in the car. He wanted to hear her moaning under him so badly he could barely think straight.

He sucked in his abs, wishing he had worn loose-fitting jeans, so she could slip her hand down. The magical hands that massaged his body every week would be on the places he fantasized about having them.

Her fingers lingered near the top button of his jeans.

He waited. His eyelids drooped. Please, do it. Do it, Ella.

AnnaLores

Author Biography:

Anna started writing romance as a by-product of insomnia. After a year of late night reading, she borrowed her son’s laptop and set about breathing life to her very own characters. A month later, she was surprised with a new laptop of her own to pursue her dreams.

With a B.A. in English Literature and a desire to fill her world with wonderful stories she and her close friends could not just talk about, but gush over, Anna shed the job as mom of three in the late night hours and assumed her alter ego of Dirty Girl.

Every Couple Deserves a… Happily Ever After by @RuthACasie #romance #bookreview #MFRWAuthor

happily ever after FINAL

Title: Happily Ever After

Author: Ruth A. Casie

Genre: Contemporary Romance

My Review:

Part One – Beth Holmes is a bestselling romance author but when she responds to a nasty review, her sales plummet and she’s left wondering if she’s sealed her fate. Her agent convinces her to attend a book signing in Havenport but when she discovers a rival author is also attending, she wonders if she should just throw in the towel. A chance meeting with a handsome man reignites Beth’s creativity and she writes through the night. But when she discovers who her mystery man is, will Beth leave or take a chance on being a romantic heroine in her own romance? I loved part one! As an author, myself, I could relate to Beth’s feelings on a bad review and the crossroads she appears to be facing. Her witty inner dialogue made me laugh a few times. Jarred is swoon-worthy for sure. The romance was sweet yet toe-curling. The conflict becomes clear and Beth’s reaction was honest. Love the humorous play on Holmes and Watson.

Part Two – Beth and Jarred are back in Havenport, only it’s far more dangerous than either of them realizes. They made the decision to collaborate last Christmas but it’s more difficult than they thought. Every time Jarred sends her notes, Beth cringes with self-doubt. She needs to confess her feelings to him before it pulls them apart. But that’s the least of their issues when Beth accidentally stumbles upon a criminal plot in the least-likely place. Can Jarred protect her or will he be too late? A beautifully written romantic suspense by Casie and it only made me love this couple more. Casie kicks up the adrenaline at just the right spots and has a talent for romantic suspense. Well done!

Part Three – Beth and Jarred are tying the knot and plans quickly go awry. They’re trying to finish their latest book days before the wedding. Their families are interfering with the wedding plans and all Beth and Jarred want to do is escape. Nothing is going according to their wishes, not even the bachelor party. Jarred sees Beth’s stress brimming over and decides to take matters into his own hands. All he wants is to spend the rest of his life with Beth, to give her the Happily Ever After she deserves, but is it too much to ask? Beth and Jarred are my new favorite romantic couple and their love story is honest and true. Life gets in the way, sometimes, and it’s what you do with it that matters. Beth and Jarred compliment each other and their romance makes you believe that happily ever after can happen to us all. Best Casie book to date!

Favorite Character/Quote: Beth Holmes. Beth is a best-selling author who’s still reeling from a horrible review and the last place she wants to be is at a book signing with her nemesis. I loved her sense of humor, her honesty and her toe-curling kisses with her sexy rescuer. I laughed, I swooned, it was irresistible.

Friday Book Round-Up’s Summer Reading List #books #FridayReads #amreading #beachreads

Friday Book Round-Up'sSummer Reading List

Welcome to this week’s edition of Friday Book Round-Up. Summer is almost here and this week, my inbox has been flooded with Summer Reading lists. So, I thought I’d contribute my very own Summer Reading List. These are the top books I’m most excited to read this summer. I haven’t had the chance to read them yet but judging by their blurbs and covers, it’s going to be fun reading!

Fat Girl Begone! by D.E. Haggerty (99 cents)

The Summer House: A gorgeous feel good romance that will have you hooked by Jenny Hale

Some summers will stay with you forever…

Callie Weaver and best friend Olivia Dixon have finally done it: put their life savings into the beach house they admired through childhood summers, on the dazzling white sand of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. They’re going to buff the salt from its windows, paint its sun-bleached sidings, and open it as a bed and breakfast.

Callie’s too busy to think about her love life, but when she catches the attention of local heartthrob Luke Sullivan, his blue eyes and easy smile make it hard to say no. He’s heir to his father’s property empire, and the papers say he’s just another playboy, but as they laugh in the ocean waves, Callie realizes there’s more to this man than money and good looks.

Just when true happiness seems within reach, Callie and Olivia find a diary full of secrets… secrets that stretch across the island, and have the power to turn lives upside down. As Callie reads, she unravels a mystery that makes her heart drop through the floor.

Will Callie and Luke be pulled apart by the storm it unleashes, or can true love save them?

The Summer House is an absolutely gorgeous, heart-warming summer romance, about the importance of family, not keeping secrets, and learning how to open your heart.

The Weekenders: A Novel by Mary Kay Andrews

Some people stay all summer long on the idyllic island of Belle Isle, North Carolina. Others come only for the weekends-and the mix between the regulars and “the weekenders” can sometimes make the sparks fly. Riley Griggs has a season of good times with friends and family ahead of her on Belle Isle when things take an unexpected turn. While waiting for her husband to arrive on the ferry one Friday afternoon, Riley is confronted by a process server who thrusts papers into her hand. And her husband is nowhere to be found.

So she turns to her island friends for help and support, but it turns out that each of them has their own secrets, and the clock is ticking as the mystery deepens…in a murderous way. Cocktail parties aside, Riley must find a way to investigate the secrets of Belle Island, the husband she might not really know, and the summer that could change everything.

Told with Mary Kay Andrews’ trademark blend of humor and warmth, and with characters and a setting that you can’t help but fall for, The Weekenders is the perfect summer escape.

The Cornish Escape: The perfect summer romance full of sunshine and secrets by Lily Graham

Get swept away along the beautiful Cornish coast, where a love story in a long forgotten diary has the power to change one woman’s life forever.

Victoria Langley’s world crumbles when her husband leaves, but she knows exactly where to go to mend her broken heart. The rugged shores of Cornwall will be her perfect sanctuary.

In the quaint, little village of Tregollan, nestled in the sea cliffs, Victoria is drawn to Seafall Cottage, covered in vines and gracefully falling apart. Inside she finds a diary full of secrets, from 1905.

Victoria is determined to unravel the diary’s mystery, but the residents of Tregollan are tight-lipped about Tilly Asprey, the cottage’s last owner. Just as she reaches a dead end, Victoria meets Adam Waters, the lawyer handling the cottage’s sale. He’s handsome, charming, and has a missing piece of the puzzle.

Tilly’s diary tells a devastating love story that mirrors Victoria’s own. Can Victoria learn from Tilly’s mistakes, and give herself a second chance at love? Or is history doomed to repeat itself?

An unputdownable and gorgeously romantic read about lost love and new beginnings set in the green hills and rocky cliffs of the breath-taking Cornish coast. Perfect for fans of Phillipa Ashley, Emma Burstall and Liz Fenwick.

Grill Me, Baby (Summer Beach Book 1) by Sophia Knightly

New York Times & USA Today bestselling author Sophia Knightly brings you Summer Beach Books – the perfect summertime escape. Fun, sexy and lighthearted, each book is a standalone novel.

The heat is on…
Raised among women who taught him to cook at his family’s Buenos Aires restaurant, master chef Paolo Santos deftly works his culinary wiles–and his gypsy charm–on post Flamingo Island’s female clientele. The tastiest tidbit on the island, though, is cool, elegant Michaela Willoughby. The redhead’s slender curves are as enticing as her rabbit-food menus are maddening. And she’s his main competition for the chance of a lifetime.

Michaela overcame her own weight issues to become Flamingo Island’s premiere spa chef. Now she has a chance to share her innovative recipes for healthy living on a new cooking show–if she can somehow outshine Paolo. His sizzling Latin-lover looks are more heart stopping than his decadent cooking. And she’d love nothing more than to stick a fork in his outsized ego.

When the stage lights ignite, so does the sexual chemistry no one–least of all Paolo and Michaela–saw coming. Suddenly, separating business from pleasure is as impossible as separating a scrambled egg. And the big question isn’t whose knife cuts fastest…it’s whose heart can take the most heat.

Warning: Contains two hot chefs duking it out in a lively showdown of sexy rivalry. Mix in family drama, luscious recipes and spicy mischief, and there’s more than just steam rising out of the kitchen. May cause lusty cravings for midnight indulgences.

The Summer We Read Gatsby: A Novel by Danielle Ganek

When two estranged sisters inherit a Hamptons beach house, they search for fortune but find love instead.

Cassie and Peck are half sisters with little in common beyond a shared last name–that is, until their beloved aunt Lydia bequeaths them equal shares of her ramshackle old cottage in the Hamptons with instructions to “seek the thing of utmost value” within it. Cassie and Peck fantasize about discovering a lost Jackson Pollock, or a first edition of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, as they revel in one last summer of fabulous parties and nostalgia.

From the author of Lulu Meets God and Doubts Him, Danielle Ganek’s The Summer We Read Gatsby, a perfect beach read, captures the spirit of New York’s most glamorous resort town, and will captivate readers with its spellbinding blend of romance, mystery, and charmingly eccentric characters.

All the Missing Girls: A Novel by Megan Miranda

Like the spellbinding psychological suspense in The Girl on the Train and Luckiest Girl Alive, Megan Miranda’s novel is a nail-biting, breathtaking story about the disappearances of two young women—a decade apart—told in reverse.

It’s been ten years since Nicolette Farrell left her rural hometown after her best friend, Corinne, disappeared from Cooley Ridge without a trace. Back again to tie up loose ends and care for her ailing father, Nic is soon plunged into a shocking drama that reawakens Corinne’s case and breaks open old wounds long since stitched.

The decade-old investigation focused on Nic, her brother Daniel, boyfriend Tyler, and Corinne’s boyfriend Jackson. Since then, only Nic has left Cooley Ridge. Daniel and his wife, Laura, are expecting a baby; Jackson works at the town bar; and Tyler is dating Annaleise Carter, Nic’s younger neighbor and the group’s alibi the night Corinne disappeared. Then, within days of Nic’s return, Annaleise goes missing.

Told backwards—Day 15 to Day 1—from the time Annaleise goes missing, Nic works to unravel the truth about her younger neighbor’s disappearance, revealing shocking truths about her friends, her family, and what really happened to Corinne that night ten years ago.

Like nothing you’ve ever read before, All the Missing Girls delivers in all the right ways. With twists and turns that lead down dark alleys and dead ends, you may think you’re walking a familiar path, but then Megan Miranda turns it all upside down and inside out and leaves us wondering just how far we would be willing to go to protect those we love.

But she can’t deny that every time she’s near him, the temptation gets a little bit harder to resist.

Every bit of energy he has goes into the resort he’s working hard to keep afloat, and Kat is a temptation he just can’t indulge — even if he can’t get her off his mind. For one, she’s his employee. She might as well wear a flashing sign that screams off limits. Two, he can’t afford any distractions — and a sexy little yoga instructor is about as distracting as it gets.

When Kat presents Brandon with a deal — she’ll help him get his resort on track if he’ll let her show him there’s more to life than work — hard days in the office turn into late nights on the town. Can they fight the temptation that keeps pulling them back together? Or will they see how good it can be to be oh-so-bad?

Scoundrel of Dunborough by @MargMooreAuthor #bookreview #historicalromance

Scoundrel of Dunborough

Title: Scoundrel of Dunborough (The Knights’ Prizes)

Author: Margaret Moore

Genre: Historical Romance

Book Blurb:

She swore to resist temptation!

Journeying to Dunborough to learn the truth about her sister’s murder, novice Celeste D’Orleau dons a nun’s habit for safety. But seeing her childhood hero Gerrard of Dunborough makes her dream of pleasures that will be forbidden once she takes her final vows.

Gerrard wrestles with his desire for the innocent beauty. After striving to redeem his wicked reputation, he won’t seduce a nun. Yet as Celeste’s mission draws them closer together, it soon becomes clear their passion is stronger than any vow!

My Review:

Hearing of her sister’s murder, Celeste D’Orleau leaves her cloister and returns to Dunborough. She reunites with her childhood friend, handsomely wicked Gerrard and all her sinful feelings for him returns. She’s on a mission to uncover the identity of her sister’s murderer, even if it means sacrificing herself and her vows of chastity.

Gerrard’s trying to clean up his image and the last person he’d expect to see is beautiful Celeste. She brings out the best and worst in him yet no matter how much he wants her, he won’t seduce a nun. But when Celeste entraps the real murderer, he’ll do whatever it takes to save her.

A juicy, intriguing historical romance. I loved Celeste and her viper tongue. Celeste and Gerrard ignite between the pages and I swooned more than once. Both have been hurt in the past and the time has come to bury the hatchet. But is Celeste running away from love or is it her calling to be a nun? A twist on the classic Harlequin historical romance. A must read!

Disclaimer: I received a paperback for Christmas.

Favorite Character/Quote: Gerrard. I really loved him because he knows what he wants and yet his weakness is Celeste. She makes him angry with her wicked tongue but she also speaks the truth, which is rare. He’s a good man and the historical version of sex-on-a-stick.
