Would You Recognize Me By My Actions and Light? #inspiration #motivation #WednesdayWisdom

Would you recognize me if I was walking down the street?

Would my Light give me away?

Would you stop and say hello?

Would you ignore me and keep driving?

Would you recognize me if I was shopping in the grocery store?

Would you smile and say hello?

Would you be too busy to notice my Light?

I’m just like you, surrounded by people who love me.

The only difference is that my mission is to spread the Light, smite down the darkness and uplift those in need.

I am one woman who’s recruiting you for her Kindness army! I want you!!!!

I come to the world to cast out the darkness and to fill the world with Light.

#ThursdayThoughts: In Stillness, We Find Our Peace #inspiration #meditation #prayer

peace

Are you at peace?

Being still and at peace is something I struggle with daily. My brain is constantly firing thoughts, ideas and criticisms. It’s hard for me to shut it off and quite frankly, it’s exhausting. So, when I saw this quote, it gave me pause.

When we are still, peace comes to us.

I find peace through meditation/prayer. I concentrate on my breathing and words of gratitude flow from my mouth.

Why is stillness important?

No one is the Tasmanian Devil. We can’t keep whirling around nonstop without consequences. We get tired, exhausted even, and need time to refuel/rest/replenish ourselves. Stillness through meditation/prayer allows our mind/body/soul to be refilled.

Today, take time to be still and peace will find you. Now repeat after me,

“I am grateful for…”

Spiritual Love: Faith When You Can’t See What’s in Store #Easter #Passover #inspiration

Faith

When the darkness is closing in, have faith.

Last night at sundown, Passover started. For those who don’t know the story of Passover, let me summarize. The Jews were enslaved in Egypt. God freed the Jews uplifting Moses as their leader. Moses told Egypt to let his people go but the king didn’t listen to him. God, in essence, changed the king’s mind. The Jews followed Moses into the wilderness blindly; they were just happy to be free. But happiness soon turned to worry as they realized they were in the middle of nowhere. They were hungry and the darkness was closing in. Moses prayed and God answered his prayers. The result: the ten commandments. Passover is the celebration of freedom.

We’ve all been enslaved by something. Whether its a job, relationship, money, circumstance, we were once a slave and have been freed. But what happens after we’re freed? We’re wandering around in the desert, not sure what to do or where to go. The darkness suffocates us as it gets nearer. How to cope?

Faith.

Just like the Jews back in the 13th century BC, we clutch onto our faith. Faith is trusting in God to guide us in the wilderness. Faith is following the lighted path, even when we can’t see our hand in front of our face.

Faith is seeing Light with your heart when all your eyes see is darkness.

Happy Passover, dear followers!

Love

Love is the theme this week, as it’s Holy Week for both Christians and Jews. Love is on my mind and today I’m going to be truthful and honest. Some of you may not like what I have to say and I’m okay with that. I feel led to speak the truth in love, not hate.

I heard this song, Take Me to Church by Hozier, last week. Here’s the lyrics and the video (PG-13 rating):

My lover’s got humour
She’s the giggle at a funeral
Knows everybody’s disapproval
I should’ve worshipped her sooner
If the heavens ever did speak
She’s the last true mouthpiece
Every Sunday’s getting more bleak
A fresh poison each week
“We were born sick”
You heard them say it
My church offers no absolutes
She tells me “worship in the bedroom”
The only heaven I’ll be sent to
Is when I’m alone with you
I was born sick, but I love it
Command me to be well
Amen, Amen, Amen
Take me to church
I’ll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I’ll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
[x2]
If I’m a pagan of the good times
My lover’s the sunlight
To keep the goddess on my side
She demands
Take me to church
I’ll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I’ll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
[x2]
No masters or kings when the ritual begins
There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin
In the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene
Only then I am human
Only then I am clean
Amen, Amen, Amen
Take me to church
I’ll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I’ll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life

Love is love. No matter who you are and who you love, what you beliefs and values are, you love. Every religion and spiritual practice speaks of love. As human beings, we have a desire to love and be loved.

It angers me when Christians, Jews, Muslim, New Age, Agnostics, etc. judge other people by who they love. Here’s a sampling of various holy texts quotes on love:

The Bible: Matthew 22:36 – 22:40 —

36 Master, which [is] the great commandment in the law?

37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38 This is the first and great commandment.

39 And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Torah: Leviticus 19:17–18 —

You shall not hate your kinsman in your heart.
Reprove your neighbor, but incur no guilt because of him.
You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against your kinsfolk.
Love your neighbor as yourself: I am Adonai.

Ancient Philosopher, Socrates:

One word frees us
Of all the weight and pain in life,
That word is Love.

Love is universal. Love is within us all and nowhere in any of these texts does it say to judge another by who he/she loves. In every religion/spiritual belief, we’re not called upon to judge. It’s not our place and honestly, who wants that kind of responsibility?

Listen, I’m a Christian and I follow Jesus’ example. He loved everyone. Sure, He didn’t love the sin or what they did wrong. But He didn’t judge; He left that to His Father, the Lord. He walked among sinners, especially lepers, prostitutes and tax collectors. He preached turning the other cheek, loving everyone, spreading the good word, housing and feeding others in His name.

I follow His example of truth, kindness and being the embodiment of love. I don’t judge and in fact, it doesn’t matter to me if people’s soul mates are their toasters. Yup, you read that right. If someone is in love with his/her toaster, well, I’m happy for them! God bless because everyone should experience love.

So today, on the first day of Holy Week (even if you’re not religious), show love not hate to others. Let all that you do be in love.

Back to the Basics: My Inward Upward Outward Journey by @TallySonrisa Hits Home #bookreview

Book Cover_Back to the Basics

Title: Back to the Basics: My Inward Upward Outward Journey

Author: Tally Sonrisa

Genre: Non-Fiction/Informational and Autobiography

Book Blurb:

In an effort to help change our current trajectory, the author presents a collection of personal stories and informal essays that synchronize with many of the issues facing us today. Healthcare, women’s rights, education, marriage, parenting, spirituality, politics, the environment, and more.

By combining her almost 20-year career in scientific research with playful banter and a love of storytelling, Ms. Sonrisa methodically explores many of the failing systems confronting us today, but rather than presenting a world of despair and hopelessness, she offers a number of creative and practical solutions for individuals and the community at large – a community that she hopes will one day be based on a foundation of science, wellness, togetherness, and love.

My Review:

Back to the Basics is an all-encompassing treatise on life. Starting with her own personal experience, Sonrisa gives the reader a glimpse into how she came to be the woman she is today. Topics include:

  • Growing up
  • Relationships
  • Sex/Intimacy
  • Mother/Stepmother
  • Drug Use
  • Faith/Spirituality/Religion
  • Food/Healthy Living
  • Environment/Housing Issues
  • Inward/Upward/Outward Mantra
  • Spiritual Movement

It’s a lot to take in (over 200,000 words) but this book should be read in small bites, like a magazine/e-zine. Life is a journey and Sonrisa is here to share her experiences and insight. Her mantra is simple: love one another and ourselves and everything else will fall into place.

I found myself nodding in agreement as I read her experiences growing up and falling in love. I laughed at her humorous view on various subjects and cried at her heartbreak. I felt an instant connection with her and the more I read, the more I understood where she was coming from. While I found it a little wordy, at times, the messages came through loud and clear.

We all crave happiness, love and spiritual oneness. Let’s all get back to the basics.

A must read and I highly recommend!

Excerpt:

“I have learned that my faith – my ultimate belief – is in the power of love.”

And while I may not be able to subscribe to one, specific religion based on that simplistic view, what I have learned from wandering this planet without any written dogma is that living a rich and spiritually rewarding life does not require membership to any particular, faith-based system.

I believe that if we can simply learn to love ourselves and others, while pursuing a life filled with kindness, righteousness, forgiveness, and generosity, we will find ourselves blessed with the spiritual bounties of inner peace, happiness, oneness, and personal fulfillment.

Whether or not love is the Higher Power, I can’t say, but I am completely convinced that this “Higher Power” that we so often tend to question is rich with that heart-warming and life-enriching energy.”

This #AshWednesday, Take a Moment and Pray for the Hungry #inspiration #motivation #Lent

angel in ocean

During these 40 days, let me put away all my pride. Let me change my heart and give up all that is not good within me. Let me love God with all that I am and all that I have.
~ Genesis Grain

Today is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, and it’s a day many Christians reflect inwardly, giving thanks and purifying themselves. Many make a vow to give up something showing their devotion and thanks to God.

Last weekend, I received an email from Bread for the World and it totally moved me. Here is how it began:

Bread for the World believes ongoing prayer is essential for creating and sustaining the political will needed to achieve the end of extreme hunger by 2030. To encourage this outpouring of prayers, each year we produce Lenten Prayers for Hungry People. This six-panel “table tent” includes the Scripture lessons appointed for the five Sundays in Lent as well as the Sunday of the Passion (Palm Sunday).

They went on to talk about a life-changing way you can help end hunger in the world. Let’s say you decide to give up on your daily muffin ($2 – $3) for Lent. Take that money you’d normally spend and donate it to help feed the hungry (food banks, food pantry, church, charity that helps homeless, etc.).

What a fantastic idea! Not only will you be feeding your spiritual self but people in need as well.

Spiritual Love: When Souls Unite #inspiration #love #MondayBlogs

When Souls Unite

Two become one

When souls unite

The connection is pure

Such beautiful delight.

The warmth

The expression

Of total devoted love

Proves to us both

That the Lord is above.

It was God’s plan

That two become one

The perfection of two

Is how God wanted it done.

© 2016 Poetry of Love: The Engagement Year by N. N. Light, All rights reserved

There’s an old saying: A marriage is like a triangle and the three partners are God and two people. You can’t have unconditional love without God and you can’t love each other fully without trusting in God.

When I was single, I prayed to God every day for Him to send me the man I was supposed to be with and for Him to give me the courage to recognize him when he arrived in my life. God upheld His part of the deal but me, not so much. In fact, it took three times for me to recognize MR N as my beloved (thank goodness MR N is a patient man).

The truth is that I loved God first and I believe that’s how it’s supposed to be. In order for me to fully love MR N, I had to have a deep, spiritual love for God. I still do. My spiritual love for God is never-ending and grows deeper every year.

Instead of a triangle, I envision my love relationship with God and MR N as a circle. There is no beginning and no end; it’s continuous. God instills love in our hearts and He fills us with Light every single day.

No matter who you are or what your beliefs are, we are all spiritual beings and we all crave oneness with the Universe. Every connection/relationship we make, our souls rejoice. We’re on a path to enlightenment and sometimes the journey is fraught with obstacles.

Follow your inner light and it will never steer you wrong.

** When I mention God, I’m referring to a Higher Being. He/She goes by many names and feel free to insert His/Her name whenever you read God in this piece. **

Opportunities are Like Sunrises… #inspiration #motivation #opportunity

opportunities-sunrise

Are you missing out on opportunities without even realizing it?

A friend of mine is always saying she wants to be an author but is waiting on God to guide her. She prays and prays but sits by while opportunity after opportunity passes her by.

“I just don’t know if this is the right thing for me.”

I shake my head because she doesn’t realize she’s dismissing the very thing she’s praying over.

Listen, opportunities present themselves every single day. It’s up to us to seize them or like the quote above states, “If you wait too long, you miss them.”

Are you waiting too long?

Don’t! Grab ahold of opportunity and see what happens. I know it can be scary and your mind is filled with doubt. You’ll never know what could be in your future if you don’t take the first step.

What opportunities are presenting themselves to you? Share in the comments below.

Opportunities are like sunrises. If you wait too long, you miss them.

Are You on a Spiritual Path? Of Course You Are! #inspiration #spirituality #WednesdayWisdom

spiritual-path

Every moment, from birth until death, is part of the spiritual path.

People talk about spirituality like it’s some sort of quest. We’re not a character from Lord of the Rings, people.

When I was in my early twenties, I was restless and felt like I was missing something. So, I tried to find my spiritual self. I experimented with all sorts of things and in the end, I learned there are several avenues to spirituality but they all lead to the same place: my spiritual path.

Are you searching for the Light? Look inside. You’re a carrier of the Light and all you have to do is let it shine.

Everyone is on a spiritual path and there is no right or wrong way to find it. No matter what your spiritual belief may be, we are all carriers of the Light. Open yourself up to all that the Universe has in store for you.

The spiritual path is simply the journey of living our lives. Everyone is on a spiritual path… most people just don’t know it yet.

God’s Mercies after Suicide by @JeanAnnWilliams #SurvivorDay #BookReview #Books

Title: God’s Mercies after Suicide: Blessings Woven Through a Mother’s Heart

Author: Jean Ann Williams

Genre: Suicide, Christian Living, Christian Devotional

Book Blurb:

What if your child shot himself while you were in the next room? What if you held him as his heart beat for the last time? What if Satan whispered in your ear, “Now where is your God?” Find out how Jean Ann Williams reached out with her spirit and mind to the one true Father. Discover how the Lord God answered her, and walked alongside her in the most difficult grieving journey of her life.

My Review:

Suicide is a taboo subject in most Christian circles yet suicide rates have risen 24% since 1986. In this powerful book, Jean Ann Williams bares her soul and her grief as she details the suicide of her beloved son and her journey from despair to acceptance.

Williams takes it slow and describes her son’s suicide, her guilt, her grief and her recovery process. She’s honest with us, the reader, and doesn’t sugar-coat anything. She’s a devout Christian and like many of us who’ve been dealt with tragedy, she doesn’t understand God’s plan. All she feels is pain. She’s a mother and all she knows is that her son is gone and she’s left alone to somehow fill the void in her heart.

A beautiful spiritual journey in devotional form, God’s Mercies After Suicide is a must-read. Williams shares her experiences (from the funeral to dealing with holidays to a stark recognition in the form of a repairman) in gut-wrenching prose. My heart broke for Williams and I cried while reading this book.

If you know someone who’s dealing with the loss of their child through suicide, please pick up this book. They’ll thank you in hugs, trust me.

A Dark Journey Into the Light by Josef Smith @lifeofjosef #BDSM #bookreview #POTLReads

a-dark-journey-into-the-light

Title: A Dark Journey Into The Light

Author: Josef Smith

Genre: Memoir, BDSM, Personal Growth

Book Blurb:

Josef is lost in a secret world of sexual gratification, a true-life Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, unable to halt the “roller coaster of conflicting emotional extremes that never stopped long enough for me to get off.”

“I gave myself to that sexual playground completely, and loved every minute of it when it was happening. It was only afterwards that spikes of shame, guilt, and self-loathing would be driven deep into my heart.”

He traces the beginnings of his obsession to his childhood, where his natural innocent curiosity and need for exploration were at odds with his Catholic upbringing and the view of his extremely repressed mother, both of whom regarded the human body as ‘dirty’ and ‘shameful’.

For sixty years, Josef lived a secret double life. The only people who knew about this other life were the professional mistresses, trannies, and prostitutes with whom he indulged every conceivable sexual fantasy. No one in his ‘other’ life had any idea of who he really was or the things he did.

Yet his secret life claimed a terrible toll. The failure of his first marriage. The loss of his son. The loss of his beloved second wife.

Only after extensive therapy was he finally able to see and feel the light of compassion, and allow the healing energy of forgiveness to begin taking away the pain.

In his journey, Josef explores an astonishing variety of topics. In addition to sexual addiction and the hidden world of BDSM, he delves into the burden of guilt of the Catholic Church, fear, political correctness, nonjudgment, love and loss, philosophy, the soul, spiritual awakening, and healing.

This is the journey of an ordinary man lost in an extraordinary secret, dark world, who ultimately finds his way out of the tangled mess through the power of love and forgiveness.

My Review:

This book must have a strong 18+ warning and is not suitable for any minor to read.  Further this book is not for those with a weak stomach as parts of it may deeply offend.

Once more I have been graced with reading a tell all of a person’s life and once again, I cannot express my amazement at the bravery it takes to expose one’s life to the world’s eyes.  This book was extremely well written, professionally edited and flows well for the reader.  I am at a bit of a loss as to how to describe this book.  It was certainly cathartic for the writer and there are plenty of good things that come from reading this book.  I hope that anyone who reads this story of one man’s life comes to the understanding that whatever your healthy, consensual approach to sex is, enjoy it and be proud.  The writer isn’t providing another version of 50 shades.  This is a true tale of BDSM in its rawest form.

I recommend this book to all in the BDSM community.  There is a lot here for them and for anyone who may have had issues coming to terms with their sexual choices and identity.

I took issue with some of the author’s statements in regards to what might happen in the world if there were no consequences for sexual assault and I categorically state he is wrong.  There is a moral code that runs through the vast majority of people and it is only the few that would be intrigued by that sort of sordid opportunity.

A tough read but one that really opens one up to feelings of empathy and understanding.  ‘Josef’ finally overcame a lifetime of problems that stemmed from early childhood and his journey is one that will touch a lot of people.

Be the Spark in the Lives of Others by Just Being Yourself #inspiration #Tuesdaymotivation

go-out-into-the-world-mt

You are a shining bright spot in the world and when you share your Light with others, you’re sparking their Light which starts a positive chain of events.

Every day I write an inspirational thought and it goes out into the world. Many of you share it with others and it’s simply wonderful. Just by being ourselves, we’re changing the world for the better. Our Light combats the darkness and negativity has no choice but to flee.

I was told over the weekend that my message wasn’t wanted among a group of people I considered friends. I was hurt at first because my natural reaction is to think I did something wrong. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized these people didn’t like the positive message and wanted to be secluded in darkness instead.

Did that stop me from writing today’s inspirational thought?

No way! In fact, it only increased my resolve. Darkness is everywhere and the only way to destroy it is to flood the world with Light and love.

When you’re out in the world today, no matter who you meet, smile and let your Light shine! You’re special and by just being you, you’ll be helping us to cause the darkness to disappear.

Words to Live By: Love One Another #inspiration #affirmations #love

Love Bible Verse

Love one another.

Did you know all religions/creeds/beliefs have love at the core?

It’s true.

What makes us human is our ability to love.

My grandfather and father were the first to teach me about unconditional love. MR N followed in their footsteps.

There is so much hate in the world today. It’s hard not to get depressed and just become passive. But I don’t.

More than ever, the world needs love.

Today, call/write/email/text every single person you love and tell them how you feel. Be honest. Tell the truth.

Love one another unconditionally.

Dreams Are Stepping Stones to Greatness #inspiration #affirmations #spirituality

dreams-stepping-stones

Dreams are stepping stones to greatness and paves way to fulfilling purpose on earth. The dreams we have are birthed on our inside to live the life we earnestly desire.  Christ has given us a mandate saying:

”Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the fowl of the air, and over everything that moveth upon the earth”- Genesis 1:28 (NKJV)

We can live our dreams because we have dominion and power to speak the Word; to confess things as though they are. Speaking the Word keeps the mind alert and heart receptive as we journey through life.

As we journey through life, our quest for who we are, what we stand for and the choices we make help in the pursuit of our dreams.  In our pursuit, we must learn to crawl, walk before we fly. While we journey we may trip, dash our feet against a stone or fail. Failure rears its ugly head like a growling lion, sends chills down our spine and tears us part.  What must we do when failure rears its ugly head? Do we sit back and cry like a child who accidentally spoils his favorite toy?  The answer is NO! A child can get a new toy from his parents if he has the right attitude.

A child who has good manners find his way to his parents heart no matter how displeased they are with him.  Hence, the right attitude keeps us on track in the pursuit of our dreams. It keeps the naysayers away and attracts the dream chasers.

A child’s disposition speaks a lot about him; it could convince or dissuade the parents from taking actions. Therefore, a dreamer’s disposition when the going gets tough, keeps him going.

A child’s mind is a tabula rasa. It’s uninfluenced and fresh before it accepts what it may or may not consider as right or wrong.  The mind is a like a baby; it accepts what its fed with as the parents watch it grow into an adult.  The mind is like a garden; trees are cultivated for beautification and creates delight in the senses.

The right attitude challenges the status quo. It questions mundane activities and begs for change.  The right attitude questions the past and embraces the future. Our dreams are propelled with the right attitude.

When we have the right attitude, our views are indispensable for achieving dreams even if we see life with a concave lens, while convex lens gives us a clearer vision for fulfilling our dreams.

The dreams you have and the zeal to achieve them spices your life no matter the slip- ups, jammed doors, road blocks or U-turns.

Light travels fast and radiates to dispel darkness. Let your light shine, let it glow from your soul to the souls of others; let it cascade through their bones , feel the flesh and heal wounded souls.

Are you a go-getter who needs a plan?

MR N and I have always worked hard and recently we’ve needed to scale back. We realized that in order to not let the stress dictate our lives, we need to let go and go with the flow.

I love this graphic and it inspired me to release my tight grip on life. Instead of going against the current of life, it’s far easier to turn around and go with the current.

Are you struggling with something right now?

Turn 180 degrees and take this advice:

Breathe, trust, let go and see what happens.

Let Your Light Shine! #inspiration #motivation #SpreadtheLight

light shine

What’s the secret to life?

Light.

Every human being has a spark of Light inside them. Some keep it hidden, some don’t know it exists and some let it shine. The difference between those who keep it hidden and those who let it shine is clearly seen in their outlook on life. Those who are content and happy are those people who let their Light shine.

Think about people you admire and love. Something drew you to them; they have a special something you can’t explain. What is it? It’s their spark.

When I let my Light shine, I’m my most happiest. I feel at peace and smile.

Are you hiding your Light or are you letting it shine?

You just gotta ignite the Light and let it shine!

There’s a wave of change affecting humanity on a planetary scale. Our collective consciousness is transitioning to a higher level, and a new era of awareness, enlightenment, and magic is emerging. The time for you to awaken is now.

My Review:

Are you looking for purpose in your life and/or in need of inspiration and don’t have a clue where to start? Today’s your lucky day because this book is for you!

Manual for the Soul is simply an introductory workshop to seeking enlightenment and discovering who you are. While the author aims his audience at Millenniums like himself, I found it to be applicable to any age/generation.

What I Loved:

Each chapter is broken down into three parts: an introduction, lesson and questions to ponder. I loved the questions afterwards because it made me think about what I had just read and how I can apply it to my life.

The author writes in an easy-to-understand voice and doesn’t talk down to the reader. I found this refreshing because there are so many professionals like him out there who talk in psychological terms and it comes across as clinical. When reading Manual for the Soul, I felt like I was talking to an equal and/or a friend. Well done, Jordan.

The flow from one section to the next was natural and I found myself absorbed in what Jordan was teaching me.

I read it all in one sitting and later on, talked with MR N about this book. In fact, I found myself contemplating how I can apply it to my life while I was working and making dinner.

Each of us is a Masterpiece waiting to be unveiled and it all starts with awakening the mind and the soul. This is Jordan’s belief and mine as well. A must read!

Jordan F

Author Biography:

Like many in the Millennial generation, I pursued higher education directly after high school, obtaining a bachelors and master’s degree in clinical/counseling psychology. During that time, I was also on my own journey of self discovery which really took off when I began meditating and developing myself spiritually. I studied numerous ancient and modern traditions and texts and came to the conclusion that each path was a person who once tried to describe their Enlightenment.

After working as a therapist for a few years, I focused on healing the body and obtained an associate’s degree in Medical Massage. Since that time I’ve studied various healing traditions – physical, mental, and energetic – to become an all-around healer and Spiritual Development Coach.

After investigating the best way to help people heal from anything, I’ve determined (as stated by many people before me) that the best way to heal another is to teach them to heal themselves. Our minds, bodies, and the energy that infuses them are capable of extraordinary things, we just need to learn to harness that capability.

Manual for the Soul: A Beginner’s Guide is my introductory book of what will become a series of Manuals taking ancient, complex ideas and bringing them forward into this new millennium. My goal is simple: To give people back their spiritual power which has been veiled from their sight for too long. Collectively we hold the power to change the world, and it starts with the Awareness of this fact.

Follow Your Heart Using Truth and Knowledge #inspiration #motivation

truth and knowledge

What does your life reflects?

Is is truth, love, greed, humility or something else?

My intention is the spread the Light and help others, especially those less fortunate. Through my words and my actions, I strive to reflect my intention.

I love this quote by Deepak Chopra. Whether you like him or not, his quote is powerful.

“If you follow your heart using truth and knowledge as your foundation, people can’t help but respond to your intention.”

So I ask again, what’s your intention?

Find your intention and then go out into the world and live it!

Meet @ChrisNorton16 and Discover Why His Book Changes Lives #SCI #BookPromo #Inspiration

It is our immense pleasure to introduce you to Chris Norton. We first met Chris in 2015 and we connected immediately. He asked us to read and review his book and Mr. N had the pleasure earlier this year. While he was reading Chris’ book, he would share passages with Mrs. N and we got all choked up. The Power of Faith moved us deeply and in our opinion, he’s a true hero. He agreed to an interview and I know you’ll be moved, too. Take it away, Chris:

What do you consider to be your best accomplishment?

My best accomplishment thus far is raising over $500,000 through my non-profit SCI CAN Foundation. It’s not solely the money we have raised that is an accomplishment, but the amount of people we have helped with that money which I am proudest of.

SCI CAN

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself in 5 years living in a home in south Florida with Emily and some kids. I hope to have gained enough traction with my book and speaking that I am able to travel internationally.

Have you always liked to write?

Yes and no. In elementary and middle school, I enjoyed writing fictional stories from my imagination because there wasn’t a right answer and grammar wasn’t a focus. Years later in high school, I lost my creative touch and grammar was a heavy focus so I didn’t enjoy it as much. My favorite subject was math.

What writing advice do you have for other aspiring authors?

Continue to perfect your craft every day. If you truly enjoy writing and want to become better at writing, it’s got to be something you incorporate into your everyday life.

What is your least favorite part of the publishing / writing process?

I hate how long it takes from the finished manuscript to get the final product. Once you have all of the writing done you are really excited to share your work but there is a long tedious process to get everything else perfect like the formatting or cover design.

Do you have a favorite spot to write? What is it?

I have this great spot at my apartment in Florida I like to write. It’s an office and right out the window is a pond and gorgeous palm trees next to the pool. It’s my little slice of paradise.

What are you working on now? What is your next project?

I would like to write a self-help book about how to overcome obstacles and lead a life of service. In addition, I also want to write another book about my life after graduation with Emily. I have had a lot experiences such as becoming a foster parent, moving to Florida, the wedding, relationships, and trying to make a living as a public speaker. It’s definitely a couple years down the road though.

What is your biggest fear?

I am deathly afraid of spiders. The worst part is if one is crawling around on the floor, I do not have the ability to easily kill it or get away from it. I just hope the little monster doesn’t climb up my chair.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

To fly. I’ve always thought it would be an out of this world experience to be able to fly anywhere you want. I also love the feeling of the wind blowing in your face like when you are riding a bicycle or on an ATV. It would get be an incomparable sense of freedom.

If you were an animal, what would you be and why?

An eagle. When I think of an eagle I think of liberation, justice, and also the freedom to do whatever I want. Also I would choose being an eagle for many of the same reasons I picked flying as my superpower.

What’s on your bucket list (things to do before you die)?

Scuba dive. Skydive. Attend the Super Bowl. Attend the NCAA Final Four. Surf. Walk on the Great Wall of China. Wheel a marathon.

Do you have any scars? What are they from?

I have a scar on my hip from a time in high school when I wiped out by being pulled by a ski rope from an ATV while skateboarding down a street. Yes, it was a dumb idea ha ha.

Title: The Power of Faith When Tragedy Strikes

Author: Chris Norton, Terry Norton & Christy Hayes

Genre: Memoir, Spirituality, Spinal Cord Injury

Book Blurb:

On a beautiful October day in 2010, eighteen-year-old Chris Norton jogged onto the football field on a kickoff for Luther College and was wheeled off on a stretcher after a routine tackle fractured his spine causing significant damage to his spinal cord. Given a 3 percent chance of ever moving anything below the neck, Chris awoke from surgery sixteen hours later defying the odds by shrugging his shoulder, beginning his long-fought journey to recovery with his family and biggest fan—father Terry—by his side.

Told through alternating chapters, this inspiring father-son memoir recounts a young man’s seemingly insurmountable quest to regain movement in every part of his body, and a father’s struggle to be the rock his son and family lean on in the face of their worst nightmare. Chris and Terry depict with brutal honesty the harrowing months they spent in rehabilitation and the years that followed where family, friends, and faith became the nucleus that saw them through. Chris’s graduation walk, marriage proposal and courageous story have already inspired millions worldwide.

Mr. N’s Book Review:

I think the word inspiration now has a new definition.  This book is one of the most powerful I have ever had the pleasure to read. The story of how A singular moment in time changed the lives of not just the football player who was struck down but his family, friends, acquaintances, doctors, nurses, the physical therapy assistants, other victims of this injury and all their circles…it is beyond awe inspiring.  I think the thing that struck me the most is how Chris states if he could go back in time he wouldn’t change a thing.  Being almost paralyzed actually changed his life for the better.

The book is written brilliantly, telling the tale of the Norton family with the crux being that fateful day when Chris had his neck broken on the football field.  The journey from the injury, to the initial care, to the mass rehab is told from both Chris’s perspective and that of his Dad, Terry.

You can clearly see that God had a plan for the Norton family and it only just started with his being injured.  Only with God’s hand can a person overcome a 3% chance of ever moving again.  I laughed, I cried, I smiled, I grew frustrated and I cheered both when Chris asked Emily to marry him and when he triumphantly walked across stage to get his diploma.

I don’t think 5+ stars is enough.  Everyone should read this book.  It will reach you in so many ways.  This book had such an impact on me that I was personally excited to find out that Chris himself had emailed my wife.  I would be so excited to receive an email from a man I consider a true hero.  A fantastic book that has changed my life.

No Matter What, You’ve Gotta Have Faith #inspiration #spirituality #faith

Faith

Are you struggling with a decision or has life thrown you a curveball?

You’ve gotta have faith.

Do you feel lost and don’t know where to turn?

You’ve gotta have faith.

Have you lost a job, loved one or home?

You’ve gotta have faith.

Are you itching to make a change in your life but are unsure if it is the right thing to do?

You’ve gotta have faith.

No matter what you believe in, having faith (in yourself, in others and/or in a higher power) is the answer. The world can get pretty dark and it’s easy to fall off the path. You try to find your way back and can’t see it. You almost give up and then there is a sliver of light that peeks through. Your heart skips a beat. Do you follow it or stay where you are?

Faith is seeing light with your heart when all your eyes see is darkness.

You’ve gotta have faith.

There have been several times in my life where I almost gave up. All I could see was the darkness surrounding me. In each of those circumstances, a tiny glimmer of light appeared and instead of giving up, I took a leap of faith and walked towards the light.

Close your eyes to the darkness and let faith lead you to the light.
