Are you making time for what matters?

Our lives are scheduled down to the last second. We’re so busy with work, family, activities, sports, etc. but I’m here with a very important question.

Are you making time for what matters?

This week has been chaotic for me. Between work, our business, household duties and family obligations, I’ve run myself ragged. My feet are swollen, my back aches and I’m exhausted. One thing has gotten me through this week: quality time with MR N. Every night, we sit together on the love seat and watch tv/dvds. I curl up next to him, close my eyes and take deep breaths. I let everything go from the day and just soak up MR N’s love.

No matter what’s going on in your life or how busy you may be, make time for what matters. It may be quality time by yourself, your significant other, your best friend, your pet, your kids; what counts is carving out time to be with that someone.

Make an appointment in your planner and never cancel. Prioritize your time so you can spend precious moments with what matters to you. It’ll be your oasis, trust me.

Make time for what matters… your very life may just depend on it.

‘Tis the season to be stressed.

A lot of people get stressed out during the holidays. There are gifts to buy for, parties to attend, children’s activities to plan, dinners to organize and end of the year work stress. The list goes on and on, not to mention illnesses circulating in schools and work.

I get it. In fact, just yesterday I was feeling stressed out. I have a lot going on and the days are slipping through my fingers, like sand. My pulse quickened and my mind started to spin with all I have to do in the next 17 days.

How do I handle the stress?

I stare at our beautiful Christmas tree. I focused on the lights and the ornaments. My breathing slows down and I smile.

I love Christmas and that, in itself, is a stress reducer. The lights, the tree, the music and movies are all things I look forward to all year. So, when it’s here, I try to balance the stress with the spirit of Christmas.

We all have stress and the number one question I get asked is this: how do I deal with stress at work?

My grandfather’s voice echos in my head.

“Prevention is the best cure, especially when it comes to stress.”

He’s a wise man and he knows what he’s talking about. After working as a high school teacher for over twenty years, he retired and started a janitorial business. He built it from the ground up and was very successful.

Stressful situations happen to each of us and how we handle it determines if stress comes pouring out of us. I like the graphic above and my favorite way to prevent stress is to go for a walk. Getting outside for a breath of fresh air does wonders for my mental well-being.

When You Think Things are Bad…You’re Really Quite Lucky! #inspiration #motivation

Are you dealing with a lot right now and feel like giving up?

I know it sounds like a fairy tale but even in the midst of all that you’re dealing with, you’re lucky. Now, now, give me a second to explain.

Do you have a roof over your head? Food to eat? You’re breathing, right? Clothing to wear? 

There are millions of people around the world (and in your own backyard) who don’t have those basic comforts. They’re homeless, starving, dead or even wearing the same clothes for a month. It’s an eye-opening revelation, isn’t it?

This past week has been crazy for both MR N and myself. Work is overworking us and we’re exhausted. Our life is overflowing with things to do and places to go. It’s the busy time of the year and at one point, I broke down and cried.

MR N pulled me into his arms and whispered to me, “Darling, this is what success feels like.”

For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be successful, have enough money not to worry how I’m going to pay the bills or even eat, be proud of the work I’m doing, loved by a man who adores me and enjoy a nice glass of wine at the end of the day. I’m truly blessed as I have all those things and more.

So, I’ve switched my perspective from “woe is me” to “gosh, I’m lucky”. Taking Dr. Seuss’ advice is as easy as breathing.

“So tell yourself, Ducky, you’re really quite lucky!”

Fatigue Makes Fools of Us All #inspiration #motivation #affirmations

Are you exhausted? Do you wake up tired, wanting only to go back to bed?

For the past week, I’ve woken up tired. I look in my reflection, only to see black circles and lines of fatigue around my eyes. I’ve never worked so hard in my life. MR N is going through the same thing so we decided to take the Labor Day Weekend and get away. Sure, it was partly business but when we weren’t meeting with clients, we rested in the hotel. It was exactly what we needed.

How do I combat fatigue?

MR N and I go out to sit together in our solarium. Sometime we talk but sometimes we don’t. While I’m out there holding MR N’s hand, I take deep meditative breaths and let go of the day’s stress. I clear my head and feel the exhaustion seep out of my pores. It’s wonderful. 🙂

Life can get busy and many of us try to deal with it. Some exercise, some party, some ignore it, etc. I have found the best thing that works for me is relaxation. When I’m sitting down with nothing to do but watch the outside world (trees, birds, kids playing, trains), my mind shuts off and my body relaxes.

How about you? How do you relax?

It doesn’t matter what you do; all that matters is that you relax. When you give yourself permission to let go, you’ll find the exhaustion leaving you and you’ll be conditioned to take on anything.

Going Through The Worst Day of Your Life? #inspiration #motivation

Are you having a bad day? Do you wish you could stay in bed all day with the covers pulled up over your head?

We’ve all gone through bad days and for me, yesterday was a bad day. Nothing seemed to go right. I’d deal with one problem and then something else would pop up. By the end of the day, my brain was exhausted. 😦

Did I give up?

No. I just got through it.

Just because today is a terrible day doesn’t mean tomorrow won’t be the best day of your life. You just gotta get there.

The key when having a bad day is to just keep going. Put one foot in front of the other and just get through. You never know what tomorrow will bring and who knows, it could be the best day of your life!

You just gotta get there! Stay as positive as you can and try smiling. You can do it!

Feeling a little stressed today? Are your nerves frazzled and your list of to-do’s longer than Rapunzel’s hair?

Take a deep breath and listen up.

You can handle anything. I can handle anything. We have strength inside we never knew we had.

The key to making stress disappear is to breathe and to keep moving forward.

Remember the Energizer Bunny? “It keeps going and going and going.” Be like the Energizer Bunny and keep going. Knock down walls and bang that big drum. Watch out world, here comes [insert name]!

Has your life suddenly become chaotic and you’re wound up tighter than a coil? 

Last week was completely draining for me.  There was so much going on and I was being pulled in a million different directions.

Friday, my nerves were frazzled and felt so out of control.  I got a lot done on Friday and by the time MR N came home from work, I was feeling pretty good. It was the start of a long weekend and dinner was fabulous. But then, our toilet handle broke. We were having people over (read my mother-in-law) Saturday morning and we needed to have a working toilet. Calling the Super was out of the question since it was a long weekend; they wouldn’t fix it until Wednesday. What to do? What to do?

My nerves fizzled out and all I wanted to do was to curl up in a ball and cry. I knew I needed to meditate, to center myself. While I did that,  MR N got on Google and found a solution. He came up with a brilliant plan (wake up early and head to Walmart) and we went to sleep Friday night. We got the part from Walmart in the morning and it took seconds to fix it. Now, we have a toilet that works better than before.

The rest of the weekend was spent relaxing and centering ourselves. It was exactly what we needed.

When life gets to you, how do you handle it?  Do you exercise, drink, cook, watch television, listen to music?

Sitting out on our solarium is a form of meditation.  I sit out there and put my feet up.  I look out at the trees and watch the trains go by.  I breathe in and out.  I empty my mind of all the thoughts that are swirling around like a hurricane.

According to the Dictionary, Meditate: to spend time in quiet thought for religious purposes or relaxation.

Every religion and spiritual practice incorporates meditation.  Even if you do not believe in any religion, deep breathing exercises are healthy for your body.

The next time you are dealing with a crazy day, take a few moments and meditate.  There is no right or wrong way.  Your spirit/soul will be refreshed and you will be ready to take on another day!

Are You Exhausted and/or Dealing with #Fatigue? Listen to Your Body #inspiration #health

Are you feeling fatigued and/or burned out?

I woke up feeling fatigued and exhausted. My lower back complained and pain rocked my body. I’m exhausted. My body is screaming for a break and I have no choice but to listen.

One of the ways I battle fatigue is to go for a walk. The fresh air rejuvenates my lungs and cleanses my soul. The music I listen to is filled with happy beats and lyrics.

Listen to your body and do something to refresh yourself.

I strongly recommend going for a walk or exercise. Empty your mind of all the to-do’s and stressors. Release it all and be in the moment.

Another recommendation is meditation/prayer. Be one with yourself and your spirituality. Let peace fill your body with every breath.

Our body knows what we need and when it’s fatigued, it is informing us it needs a check-up STAT!

Don’t ignore the symptoms but combat fatigue head-on! You’ll be feeling great in no time!

Are you stressed out? 

The past month has been filled with so much stress and anxiety!!!  Deadlines, pressure, determination, focus and strength have ruled my life for the past thirty days.  If not for MR N and my friends (you know who you are), I would not have survived! 🙂

After this marathon, I have decided to stress less.  It’s not worth it and I’m going to focus on what I can control.

I’m going to try to incorporate these five tips to stress less in my life starting now.

When was the last time you laughed?  An hour ago?  Yesterday?  Last week?  Last month?

If you don’t remember, then it has been too long!

Laughing is one of the best ways to reduce stress, be healthy and live a happy life.  I love to laugh and I must confess, Twitter is a fabulous place to laugh!  I have a group of friends who I love to laugh with!  We try to outdo each other with funny and comical pics!

So on this holiday (Shrove/Pancake Tuesday), let’s find ways to laugh!

No matter if it is a movie, television show, comedy club or any number of social media outlets…take a moment and laugh!  Your heart, mind and soul will thank you and you will burn 10-40 calories simply by laughing! WHOO HOO!

We all battle stress every day and the key to defeating it is mega simple:

Yes!

Listen, whenever stress rears its head, take a few deep breaths and repeat after me:

I can handle this. In fact, I’ve overcome things/people/circumstances much worse than this. 

Life’s going to throw you curve balls and you’re got to be strong yet flexible. You’ll make it through; just keep moving forward.

Have faith. Be strong. Love yourself and others. Be flexible.

So, the next time stress makes an appearance, do what I do. Meet it head-on and strike. Stress won’t know what hit it. 😉

Are you stressed out?

Yesterday was an exciting yet stressful day for me. I had a busy day filled with new release tasks, running my author promotions business, plus normal household/family obligations. There was so much going on, my head spun.

I took a few deep breaths, closed my eyes and gave myself this pep talk:

“You’re doing great! You’ve got this and remember how strong you are. MR N is proud of you and so is the Universe.”

When you’re stressed out, it’s important to remind yourself how awesome you are and this little bump in the road will soon be a distant memory. Do what I did and meditate.

Got a big deadline? 

You’ll make it.

Have a big day filled with a lot of things to do?

You’ll rock it.

Follow the advice in the graphic and you can overcome anything. The stress will melt away and you’ll be continuing on life’s journey with a smile.

Stress Less Today


Stress Less today

This morning I woke up feeling a little stressed. I looked at my day and all the things I have to do. I felt the anxiety well up inside. It wasn’t until MR N tapped lightly on my forehead asking me what was going on in there that I finally took a deep breath.

Are you feeling stressed out? Not enough hours in the day to get the to-do’s done?

First step is taking a deep breath. Go ahead, I’ll wait.

Good.

Next thing is to look at the graphic above. We have to learn to stress less, not more. Choose one of the things listed and apply it to your day.

I will guarantee you will feel the stress melt away.

Ever Had One of Those Days???

Ever had one of those days when the world is ganging up on you and you want to scream like Lucy?

Hey, I have those days too! I would much rather be by myself or put a sign up letting everyone know that I am going to be crabby.

It’s July and there are so many things going on.  Don’t get me wrong, I love being busy. But every once in awhile, the stress overtips the scales and comes pouring out.

What do you do when that happens?

For me, the best thing I can do is to talk about it (or write).  Get it out of your body and you will start to feel better!  Let someone help you carry the load and infuse some much-needed Light into your soul.

You will be refreshed and will be ready to take on anything!

It’s either that or yell at people like Lucy! 😉
