What Makes You Great? Repeat After Me and Embrace Your Inner Self #ThursdayThoughts #grateful

Photo Credit: Chronic Babe on Pinterest

Who are you?

No, I’m not quoting The Who in my morning singing voice. I’m merely asking you to take a little inventory of what makes you who you are.

Who are you?

Life is filled with people, companies and slogans that scream at us who we aren’t and what we need.

You’re not beautiful enough so buy this face cream.

You’re not hip enough so you need to buy these jeans.

You’re not cool enough so you have to buy this car.

On and on these messages beat us up throughout the day. Is it any wonder we’re unsure of ourselves and harboring self-esteem issues?

Whenever I feel bombarded by these messages, I close my eyes and list at least five positive affirmations. They go something like this:

I am strong.

I am beautiful.

I am loved.

I am gifted.

I am a Princess.

Reminding ourselves who we are strengthens us and allows us to embrace our inner self. Be proud of who you are.

You are blessed and a beautiful person. I love you and so does the Universe!

#ThursdayThoughts: Words to Live By and Incorporate into Your Life #inspiration

word to live by

Looking for the secret to a happy, healthy, fulfilled life?

Incorporate these attributes into your life and I can guarantee you’re well on your way.

Listen, you may know someone who appears to have everything going for them, the perfect life, so to speak. And who knows, they might be happy. But unless they have some sort of balance in their life, they probably aren’t happy.

The quote above is on my wall calendar that my dear friend gave me for Christmas. I look at it several times a day and it’s a reminder that life is more than busting my butt. If I didn’t have love, didn’t work hard, didn’t give freely, then none of it matters. It’s all about balance.

So, today’s inspirational thought is all about balance.

Think deeply,

Speak gently,

Love much,

Laugh a lot,

Work hard,

Give freely,

and be kind.

There’s One Way to Happiness and It’s Easier Than You Think #ThursdayThoughts

Did you know that worrying suffocates happiness from your life?

I’m worried about something and like usual, it’s keeping me from enjoying life. I try not to worry about it and for the most part, it doesn’t bother me. But last night, worry took over. MR N asked me what was going on and I made a joke of it. This was his response:

“It’s already taken care of. Done. Finito. Stop worrying and be happy, my love.”

I finally had to give myself a shake. If MR N wasn’t worried then I won’t be either. I woke up this morning happier and feeling almost 100%.

Life throws us curve balls and in order to be happy, we have to stop worrying!

Do like MR N says and realize it’s already taken care of. It’s out of our hands so we might as well let happiness reign.

A #Grateful Love: Helping Those Less Fortunate #gratitude #love #foodbanks

“There is a lot that happens around the world we cannot control. We cannot stop earthquakes, we cannot prevent droughts, and we cannot prevent all conflict, but when we know where the hungry, the homeless and the sick exist, then we can help.” — Jan Schakowsky

How’s your love meter this month? Is it off the charts or dwindling after the high of Valentine’s Day?

Love is something we express every day of the year, not just on special holidays like Valentine’s Day. Love for yourself, your loved ones, love for those fortunate, etc. are all residing in your heart, ready to unleash on the world.

Let me ask you a serious question. Do you love those less fortunate?

As humans, we have a natural ability and need for community. We all want to belong, to be a part of something special, something meaningful. Today, more than ever, we crave community. But what about those less fortunate? Don’t they deserve to belong, too?

I read a disturbing article yesterday talking about how even though the need for food banks is at an all-time high, donations are down severely. We’re big supporters of food banks, both in Canada and America. We talk about how important it is to feed people and how every child deserves to be fed. But we need your help; we can’t do it alone.

This month is commonly known as Love month so I’m begging you to take your love for community and go donate food/clothing/toys/money/time at your local food bank/pantry/shelter. Together, we can help those in need.

Read the quote above and ask yourself, “How can I help?” Then go and do it. Love for the less fortunate is an unconditional love and it truly is an act of charity.

I’m so grateful and so are the millions of men, women and children in need.

Self-Love: Embrace Your Inner God/Goddess! #inspiration #love #motivation

I’m Not Beautiful

She says, ‘I’m Not Beautiful’

As she suffers with her cold.

What she doesn’t get is

She’s more beautiful than before.

Joelle’s beauty isn’t fleeting

Or temporary or a guise.

Her beauty is spectacular

My prize.

The beauty is born of an inner goddess

Her eyes radiate her beauty and character

A glimpse of her angelic soul.

I’m sorry, honey, you are beautiful

It’s impossible for you to be not

I’m marrying a beautiful woman

God’s gracious gift to me.

How’s your self-love meter? Do you look at yourself with love or disdain?

Self-love has always been a difficult thing for me. I could blame it on growing up, being bullied constantly and not living up to Hollywood’s perfect body image. The real reason is much more simpler than that. I believed in other people but not myself.

As many of know, I’m an encourager. It’s a part of my make-up to encourage and uplift others. But turn that gift inward and my inner critic goes into overdrive.

You’re not pretty.

You’re unlovable.

That outfit makes you look fluffy.

No one cares about you.

You’re getting older and it shows.

I have a secret weapon, though. When I hear those ugly words, I think of MR N and how much he loves me. The negative insults fade away and I whisper this mantra:

“I’m beautiful. I see myself the way MR N sees me: a goddess and an angel. I love myself.”

I know this sounds new-age but it really works. You have to love yourself before you can love others. Each of us has an inner god/goddess itching to break free and shine.

Embrace your inner god/goddess and love yourself!

Embrace #Gratitude and You’ll Attract More in Life! #ThursdayThoughts #grateful

Are you attracting what you want most in your life?

The key to the laws of attraction is gratitude for what you already have.

We all have wants and dreams. But in order to achieve them, we have to show the Universe gratitude for what we’ve been given.

Five years ago, MR N wanted out of the restaurant industry. Burned out and frustrated, he went looking for a new career where he could use his organizational skills as well as his education (Masters in History). He landed in the coin collecting industry and has never looked back.

Today, he has moved up in the company, not to mention his second career as an entrepreneur and author.

How did he get here?

He (and I) are grateful for everything. We thank the Universe every single day for our blessings and each other. We’re humble and help others whenever possible. We spread the Light and purge darkness wherever we go.

It’s all about gratitude.

If you want certain things/dreams, you’ve gotta be grateful for what you have. The Universe won’t heap more blessings on you unless you give thanks for what It’s already given you.

Follow the quote above and watch as the Universe provides.

What are you grateful for? Share in the comments below.

The Big Moments in Life Show Us Who We Really Are #inspiration #quote #BtVS

Are you dealing with a life-altering change that came out of nowhere?

I can relate. I’ve been there and so has Buffy.

One of my favorite television shows of all time is Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Every episode is filled with scary monsters but also real life. Buffy is a normal teenage girl, except for the fact that she’s a vampire slayer. Every week, she must balance two lives: her teenage life (what, grounded again?) and her slayer life (you couldn’t go suck on some other town?).

The above quote is one of my favorite all-time quotes from Buffy. It talks about something we can all deal with: big moments. Joss nailed it when he said that even if we see it coming, we’re not prepared.

Lose a job, spouse, friend, lover?

Big moment.

Confronted with a moral dilemma and not sure what to do?

Big moment.

It doesn’t matter what the big moment is; what counts is what we do afterwards.

Whether we stand tall or cower in the corner, our actions/motivations show the world who we are.

So the next time a big moment arrives, pause and dig deep in yourself and ask:

What would Buffy do?

No, I’m kidding. That only works for me. 😉

Meditate/Pray/Reflect on who you are and how this big moment can, in the long run, make you a better person. We’re all molded clay and each big moment is the potter’s hands creating a masterpiece (us).

Life is a Tapestry of Letting Go and Holding On #inspiration #motivation #ThursdayThoughts

Life is beautiful, heart-breaking, emotional… a true work of art. Each moment interwoven to create a stunning, colorful tapestry.

2017 is turning out to be very different than 2016 and I’m so thankful for that. There’s a feeling of change in the air and it’s already happened for me. I’ve had to let things go and reevaluate where I’m headed.

Living life is all about balancing letting go and holding on.

People come and go in your life. You change jobs, homes, schools, friends, etc. Obstacles block your path and your journey takes a curve you didn’t expect. It’s up to you how you react and respond.

Do you put your head in the sand, like an ostrich, pretending it isn’t happening? Or do you choose to let go and see what happens?

Let go of the stress, negativity and toxic environments. Breathe deep and recenter yourself. Embrace your journey and hold on, for it’s going to be an adventure. A great big adventure more beautiful than any artwork hanging in a museum.

All the art of living lies in a fine mingling letting go and holding on.

Life’s the Most Interesting Game in the World… No Need to Rebel #inspiration #motivation

Life’s a game… are you ready to play?

I saw this quote this morning as I was having my breakfast and suddenly every obstacle I’ve ever faced and every challenge I’ve dealt with made sense.

I’ve been rebelling against myself. Instead of seeing myself as a beautiful sum of all of my parts, I’ve been focused solely on my faults. My inner voice chanting, “Woe is me.” The self-pity party is never-ending.

So starting today, I’m changing my inner focus. I’m tired of beating myself up.

Life’s the ultimate game and at the end of the day, every player can be a winner by having the audacity to accept all the parts of ourselves and trying our best.

Sounds corny but it’s true.

Who’s ready to play?

Priorities: Choose Wisely for It’s Critical to Your Mind #inspiration #ThursdayThoughts

What are your priorities?

When I was younger, my priority in life was to marry rich, have a successful career making as much money as I could, raise a few kids and retire to some island off the coast of Italy.

The reality was harsher than I want to admit. The more money I made, the emptier my life appeared. There wasn’t any substance to my life and I realized I needed to shift my priorities.

What you choose to focus your mind on is critical because you will become what you think about most of the time.

My priorities now include helping those less fortunate, being kind to everyone and being thankful for all the blessings in my life. I work hard, relax with MR N as much as possible and enjoy life. I’m happy, healthy and my heart is full.

What are your priorities? What are you focusing on? Focus your mind on those priorities and you’ll be surprised by the outcome.

It is Never Too Late… Inspiration from TSO #ThursdayThoughts #inspiration

No matter what has transpired or what has been said, it is never too late.

Last night, MR N and I watched Trans Siberian Orchestra’s The Ghosts of Christmas Eve. It’s one of our favorite holiday specials and we watch the DVD more than once every year. It’s a beautiful rock concert and it inspires us every time we watch it.

At the very end of the story, the Caretaker (played brilliantly by Ozzie Davis) speaks about second chances and coming home.

“It is never too late.”

We all live with regret. Words spoken in anger and/or hurt. Actions selfish and/or deceitful. Betrayal and rejection. We all wish at one point or another that we could take it all back.

It is never too late.

Pick up the phone or write an email. Make it right.

It is never too late.

Don’t Panic! Everything’s A-OK #inspiration #ThursdayThoughts

“Panic causes tunnel vision. Calm acceptance of danger allows us to more easily assess the situation and see the options.” –Simon Sinek

Last night I let panic sweep over me. I was doing the dishes when suddenly my left arm went numb and I dropped a plastic measuring cup. I tried to pick it up and my fingers wouldn’t close around it.

My old nemesis, panic, put me in a choke hold. Panicky thoughts raced around inside my head.

Oh my gawd, am I having a heart attack?

What’s wrong with my arm?

I should call out to MR N but he’d probably think I was being silly.

Did I break my arm today somehow?

I need my arm to run our business.

MR N came wandering into the kitchen to get more drink when he found me in the grips of a panic attack. In a soothing voice, he talked me through it. No, it was not a heart attack and no I didn’t break my arm. I just strained it.

When something unexpected happens, do you panic? Does your brain imagine the worst possible scenarios for what’s going on?

I’ve been battling the panic monster for as long as I can remember. My first reaction when I’m stressed is to panic. It’s only been in the last five years that I’ve been able to breathe through a situation without panicking. I even made it a goal of mine for 2016 to not panic so much.

So, this sudden onslaught of panic last night caught me off-guard. I got through it thanks to my beloved MR N. But it also reaffirmed my need to stop panic in its tracks.

Panic causes tunnel vision. Calm acceptance of danger allows us to more easily assess the situation and see the options.

This is so true. When I’m in the midst of a panicky situation, I can’t see past my own nose. But when I calmly accept what’s going on and try to figure out a solution, then I’m able to handle anything.

If I can do it, so can you. Give that panic monster the heave-ho and wear a cape of calm. We can handle anything thrown our way, as long as we don’t panic.

Find a Place Inside Where There’s Joy… #inspiration #ThursdayThoughts #wisdom

Are you dealing with pain, loss, disappointment, grief, anger?

The past two weeks have kicked me down into the gutter. This flu has dampened my spirit and I’m in need of inspiration. Even the most mundane tasks seem to take forever and I’m exhausted. When I found this quote, I knew exactly what I needed to do.

I closed my eyes, concentrated on what brings me joy and meditated. This is what I concentrated on:

Mr. N

I know it’s no surprise to our followers that the one thing that fills my heart with joy is my beloved. He loves me for me and he encourages me to look at the positive.

Joy, pure unadulterated joy, is the antidote for pain. Do what I do and focus on your joyful moment and it will purge the pain.

Wanna Know the Secret to Looking Lovely? It’s … #inspiration #motivation #ThursdayThoughts

good thoughts

When you wake up in the morning, what is the nature of your thoughts?

Are they good or are they bad?

I’m a positive person. When I wake up in the morning, my thoughts are generally good. I slept well and am ready to tackle the day.

I love this quote by Roald Dahl because it’s a terrific visual. 🙂

If you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.

Let your good thoughts shine!!

Be the Embodiment of True Happiness #inspiration #ThursdayThoughts #motivation

true happiness

What is true happiness?

I think it’s different for each person but the essence is the same: be in the moment. One of my mantras is the seize the day and cherish every moment.

I used to pine for the future, thinking that happiness was just out of my reach. It wasn’t until I started living in the moment did happiness flood my soul.

True happiness is… is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future.

Words Are More Powerful Than Any Weapon #inspiration #encourage #ThursdayThoughts

I’ve been blessed to have met many wonderful people in my life. Each one has encouraged me in some way. Their words healed my soul. I thank them (you know who you are) for without their encouragement, I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.

Are you an encourager?

I am!

Words have the power to heal, uplift and motivate; words also have the power to murder, destroy and annihilate. Choose your words carefully for they are more powerful than any weapon on this planet!

Your Struggles Develop Your Strength for Tomorrow #inspiration #ThursdayThoughts

Do you need a little encouragement?

This week has been a series of missteps and falters for me. I’m totally exhausted and in need of a rest. I’ve been working my tail off and yesterday was feeling a little low. Without me saying a word, I had three friends, two clients and MR N all tell me the same thing:

You’re doing amazing work and I’m so proud of you.

Those ten words uplifted and encouraged me. It was the boost I needed.

Each of us is dealing with one struggle or another. We’re trying to make it through the day. Some days are harder than others. The truth is, we need to go through these struggles in order to deal with what comes tomorrow.

The struggle you’re in today is developing the strength you need for tomorrow. Don’t give up!

No Matter What Happens in Life, Be Good to People #inspiration #ThursdayThoughts

What’s your legacy?

Will your life be full of compassion, kindness and empathy?

Taylor Swift’s words hit home for me. I want to be remembered as someone who went out of their way to encourage and help others.

What will your legacy be?

Don’t delay, start living the legacy you want to remembered for!

Beautiful People Do Not Just Happen #inspiration #beauty #ThursdayThoughts

beautiful people

The world is filled with beautiful people and things.  I’m not talking about what is splashed across the magazines or the television/movie screen.  I’m referring to everyday people who you pass on the street and the people in your life.

A compassionate heart and a kind spirit is more beautiful to me than all the good looks in the world.  A person who goes out into the world and sees the beauty in everything around them is truly beautiful.

Beautiful people do not just happen.

I remember when I was in my teens and someone I admired was this girl named Dardi. She and I were the same age and belonged to the same church. Every week, we hung out at the church’s youth group. I admired her for her wealth, beauty and ability to see the good in others. I wanted to be like her so badly, so much so that I started cutting my hair and dressing like her.

She caught on quick and pulled me aside to confront me.

“Why are you changing yourself to be like me?”

I stammered and shrugged. I was so afraid she wouldn’t want to be my friend anymore.

“You are beautiful just the way you are. You glow with love for others and I love you just the way you are. Please don’t change.”

My mouth fell open. I glow with love? Does she really mean it or is she just trying to get rid of me?

Turns out she really meant it. She loved me for me and she taught me to see beyond the exterior to what’s inside a person.

So, the next time you feel bad about yourself, remember that you’re beautiful. Everything you’ve gone through only adds to your beauty. Embrace life, warts and all!
