Sharing a Meal With Someone: A Love Affair with Food! #inspiration #love #cooking

febraury-love-month-graphic
“Eating is so intimate. It’s very sensual. When you invite someone to sit at your table and you want to cook for them, you’re inviting a person into your life.” –Maya Angelou

I have a love affair with food and it’s one of the reasons why I love MR N so much.

When I first met MR N, one of the things we bonded over immediately was food. We both loved food and with MR N being a chef at the time, I swooned when he first cooked for me. One bite was pure heaven and I was goner. I had met my own personal Emeril and I wasn’t going to let him go.

This past weekend was a long weekend for us and we celebrated love all weekend. We watched romantic movies and MR N cooked incredible food. It was his Valentine’s gift to me. He’s able to  stretch his culinary talents and I get to savor every bite.

The above quote speaks to us all. Sharing a meal and/or cooking for someone is very intimate. We’re showing how much we care by creating a delicious meal they’ll enjoy.

Cooking a meal is just one way to show those you love how much you care.

Do you love food? What’s your favorite thing to eat and/or make? Share in the comments below.

Joelle, My True Love

My thoughts are of you

Of how your caresses

Light a fire in my soul.

Of how your pretty smile

Brightens my whole day

How simply being near you

Takes the dark clouds away.

I love you with all my heart

My mind, body and soul

You will be my beloved wife

This truly will be my joy.

© 2016 Poetry of Love: The Engagement Year by N. N. Light, All rights reserved

Happy Valentine’s Day! It’s time to talk about romantic love and I dedicate this day and inspirational thought to the man who taught me the real meaning of love, Mr. N.

From the time I was three, I dreamt of my Prince Charming, the handsome man who would love me and make all my dreams come true. I know it sounds like the total cliche but that is exactly what Mr. N did.

The fairy tale didn’t go exactly like it is portrayed by Disney. In fact, I broke Mr. N’s heart twice. Yup, I broke up with him twice, crushing him deeply. It wasn’t until I looked deep into his eyes (for the third time) and saw the unconditional love there that I realized Mr. N’s real name is Prince Charming.

The above poem Mr. N wrote to me on Valentine’s Day when we were engaged. He had to work a double-shift at the restaurant (18 hours) and it tore us both apart that we had to be away from each other on Valentine’s Day. Such is the life of a chef and his beloved but we made the best of it and when he got home, he shared his poem with me. ❤

Nowadays, we don’t celebrate our engagement anniversary on Valentine’s Day but on the weekend following. We call it Love Weekend and it’s a three-day weekend chockful of delicious food, cocktails and romantic movies. We look forward to it every year and it’s one of the ways we keep our marriage burning hot. 😉

This Valentine’s Day, if you’re in a relationship, be sure to take a moment to tell your beloved how much you love them. You don’t have to go out to a fancy restaurant or spend a lot of money on gifts and flowers to show you care. Spending time with your beloved and showering them with your kindness and love is the best gift you can give.

A note to singles: Listen, I know this is a hard day for you. Everyone around you is gushing about romantic love. Take today and shower yourself with love. Don’t throw a pity party but cherish yourself and indulge in something decadent. You’re beautiful and I love you!

Spread Love and Light!

A week ago, we were featured on Indie Publishing Group and they sat us down for an in-depth interview. We loved it and wanted to share it with you on Valentine’s Day. Don’t forget to scroll down to the bottom to see our latest release at a great price!

This Week’s Feature Author Interview with N. N. Light

Hi N. N. Light, welcome to the Indie Publishing Group website. Introduce yourself to us. Tell everyone who you are, where you’re from, what do you enjoy doing, hobbies and interests.

N. N. Light is the bestselling husband-wife writing team, commonly known as Mr. N and Mrs. N. Mrs. N. has been creating stories ever since she was little. Her grandfather remembers when she was two years old, she would stand at the top of the stairs and tell him a story filled with emotion (and in a language foreign to him) with her hands on her hips. Let’s just say she was a born storyteller.

We’re blissfully happy and love all things chocolate, books, music, movies, art, sports, trains, history, cooking and baking. Our mantra is to spread the Light and we talk about what that means every day on our blog.

Most of the time you can find us on Twitter (our favorite social media platform) or getting new ideas on how to spread the Light on Pinterest. We’re a proud member of ASMSG and Independent Author Network.

In addition to being authors, we’re also book promoters/reviewers, social media marketers/influencers and the owners of N. N. Light Author Promotions. We both love books, have ever since we were young. Matching up books and readers is something that gives us great pleasure.

When did you start writing and why?

Mrs. N: I’ve been writing and telling stories ever since I was little. Writing was my best friend and my confidante growing up. I poured my heart and soul into my writing and those who I let read my stories wanted more. After I graduated from college, the real world intruded and I entered the publishing world as a bookseller and bookstore manager. Writing took a backseat and it wasn’t until after I married Mr. N that I started writing my stories. He encouraged me to quit my job and write full-time. Together, we became N. N. Light.

Mr. N: It’s true, what my beloved says. After several years working as a chef in the restaurant industry, I was burned out and needed a change. A new career and higher pay meant she could concentrate on what she’s wanted most: to write and publish her stories. We work so well together that writing as a team is second nature and through the process, I discovered I had the talent for writing, too.

Which is your favorite book you have written and what gave you the idea for it?

Princess of the Light. It’s our debut novel and it’s the one closest to our hearts. Here’s the story behind it as told by Mrs. N:

Four years ago, I was out for my morning walk and I saw a homeless man sitting in front of a gas station.  I looked at him, head uplifted to the sun, and wondered what his story was.  I hadn’t seen him before and knew instantly he was different from other homeless people.  He didn’t ask for money or holdup a sign.  He walked the length of our town and avoided contact.

A voice entered my head, “What if you could help him?  Would you?  What if you were chosen to help him and others like him?”

I stopped walking and searched my heart.  After a moment, I replied aloud, “Yes, I would.”

The voice echoed in my heart, “This is what you were called to do.”

I went home that day and started writing Princess of the Light.  Every day I would see the Walking Man and as Mary would help her Walking Man, I would help mine.  I started small by smiling at him and saying “good morning”.  The simple acknowledgement didn’t seem like a big deal to me but every time I did it, his face lit up and he nodded back to me.

I soon got my husband involved and we started leaving food, clothing and blankets for him. I promised myself that when my book got published, part of the proceeds would go to helping people like the Walking Man find food, clothing and shelter.

Our book is available at Amazon and we’re keeping our promise. Part of the proceeds of Princess of the Light goes directly to food banks in order to feed the hungry and help those in need. With only 7,500 books sold, we will be able to set up a monthly endowment for the local food bank.

We’re currently writing the sequel to Princess of the Light and will fingers crossed be available in late 2017/early 2018.

How did you come up with the title for your book?

The title was pretty easy as that is what Mary is (Princess of the Light) and she’s been chosen to fight Lucifer’s army of demons and restore Light to all.

Who helped you with the cover? Or did your design it yourself? What was your inspiration for your cover design?

Our cover artist is French (Erica Petit) and she really nailed it. We wanted a powerful cover to convey the strength and badassery of Mary.

What are some of the themes of your story?

There are several themes going on in this paranormal inspirational romance.

First, there’s the calling of Mary. She’s leading a double-life and it’s imperative she balance her normal life with her Princess life. Sometimes they overlap and she must deal with whatever happens.

Second theme is the romance between Mary and Joe. While it seems like a chance meeting, it’s part of a bigger plan. Mary and Joe must overcome quite a bit and all while battling dark forces and an ex-fiancée.

Third theme is the transformation of a homeless man called The Walking Man. He’s the lost soul, tortured beyond recognition by Than (Lucifer’s second in command). When Mary and Joe decide to show kindness to The Walking Man, realization hits too close to home for Joe. Forgiveness, redemption, spiritual warfare all play their part in this story. We wanted to show readers that simple acts of kindness and understanding to those less fortunate can have a huge impact.

Have you got anything you’re working on now?

We’re working on a few projects. We’re writing the sequel to Princess of the Light. We’re writing an alternative history book (Mr. N is the pointman on this project as it’s his creation) as well as a new adult romance. We’re also putting together the sequel to our love poetry collection as well as an inspirational thought book.

If you could have any super powers what would they be?

Time travel. Both of us lost our dads when we were young and we’d give just about anything to go back in time and relive time with our dads.

Amazon #1 Best-Seller and Hot New Release

I had been searching for love my whole life. It took the opening up of the world via technology for me to find my soulmate. Once I laid eyes on her, at the arrivals gate, I knew I was never going to let her go. The following is a collection of poems I wrote to my angel, from our first meeting up until our wedding day. I was working crazy hours as a chef and I had a long commute. I chose my commuting time to pen her a poem each day. These poems speak of our life, our challenges and our growth together…in every aspect they speak of our love.

May this book give someone the courage to let their special someone know how much they care for them and how much they mean to them. Saying I love you is a gift you can give many times a day.

Excerpt:

Our Love

Our love exists in so many ways

Even when parted I feel you

I long for your gaze

Knowing our love is true.

When in the heaven of your arms

I feel our love’s warmth surround me.

Your grace, beauty and charm

Leave me gasping breathless in serenity.

The pureness, sweetness and sincerity

Our so perfect love

Oft compels me to my knees

To thank our Lord above

For our love.

Happy Valentine’s Day #Books to Sweeten Your Weekend! #FridayReads #ValentinesDay #kidlit

Valentine Cookie Boxes1

Welcome to this week’s edition of Friday Book Round-Up. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I keep thinking about how excited I got when I was young. In elementary school, we took a shoe box and created Valentine Boxes. It was so much fun because on Valentine’s Day, everyone would put valentines in each box. I loved it and it’s one of the things I miss as an adult. So, in honor of that grade-school tradition, I made Valentine cookie boxes for each of you. Zero calories, too! 😉

Anyway, I went onto Amazon and found some sweet Valentine’s Day Children’s Books. Some are free, some less than $1 and some best-sellers. Take a peek and 1-click today:

Elizabeth Purcell has been writing and performing original children’s stories for more than 30 years. Her story rhymes delight beginning readers and help them to learn phonics effectively. Your children will read her stories over and over again — developing their reading skills in the process!

They are astonished. “Hearts? She even has a heart that encourages them to do their best and one full of pride as they learn something new, and, of course, a heart full of patience.

They realize how blessed they are and have a greater appreciation for their mother.

Charming, delightful rhyming words tell the tale and tickle the heart along with bouncy, bright, and happy images.

The Value of Love

We both worry about money

About how we will live.

I stress

You cry

In the end

We should strive

To recognize the value of our love.

We work hard on our budget

Cutting corners

Using thrift

Overlooking how our Lord Jesus

Has given us THE gift

The total power of our love.

© 2016 Poetry of Love: The Engagement Year by N. N. Light, All rights reserved

What’s the value of love?

It’s more precious than all the gold, silver and money in the world.

I’m horrible with numbers, budgets and finances. When I was single, I lived paycheck to paycheck, racking up debt. I tried to save and work within a budget, really I did. But then I’d see a cute pair of shoes and I’d have to have them. Cha-ching, on the credit card.

MR N loves numbers, budgets and finances. His favorite thing to do is figuring out taxes. He digs in, reading up on the new tax laws and is just like a kid at Christmas.

When we got engaged in 2004, we pooled our finances together. Me with my wild spending and him with the tight budget. You’d think we’d be fighting every night. I didn’t want to end up like my married friends and family, always fighting over money. We agreed that he’d be in charge of all the finances and we’d talk about everything money-wise. A great compromise and it allowed me to be free from worrying about money.

The poem above speaks of our working through our money issues before we were married and it speaks to my heart again this morning. It’s tax time and we got hit with a huge tax bill (we did our taxes last night). We owe more money than we thought and it was a panic moment for me. But MR N knows me and calmed me down.

“It’s all going to be okay, my love.”

He came up with a plan and now we’re ready to take it on.

The power of love.

Love is powerful. Love is healing. Love can break through any obstacle and is stronger than anything imaginable.

Love one another without prejudice, ulterior motive or condition. Watch the power of love transform another life.

Valentine’s Edition of Friday Book Round-Up: Romantic Couples #Romance #Love #Books

Love Train

Welcome to this week’s edition of Friday Book Round-Up! I am a romantic and I love to read love stories.  I have read so many wonderful love stories and I thought I would give you a top ten.  So without further ado, here they are (in no particular order).

1-            Mr. Darcy/Elizabeth Bennett– Pride and Prejudice is one of favorite books.  I love how their romance first starts off as disdain and then blossoms to romance. Best part is the Kindle book is free!

2-            Gilbert Blythe/Anne Shirley– Anne of Avonlea is book two in the fabulous Anne of Green Gables series.  I love how Gilbert loves Anne and how in the beginning, she doesn’t reciprocate.  But time passes and soon Anne realizes what is right in front of her.

3-            George Knightley/Emma Woodhouse– Another Jane Austen gem that shows what happens when you play matchmaker to everyone but yourself.  I love Emma because she has the best intentions for her friend, Harriet, even at the expense of her own happiness.  George Knightley, on the other hand, is in love with Emma but doesn’t know how to express his feelings.  Their romance makes my heart beat fast and I swoon. Also free on Kindle.

4-            Nicholas Stafford/Dougless Montgomery– A Knight in Shining Armor is a time-travel romance that truly speaks to those who believe in destiny and soul mates.  I love this book because it is both modern-day and historical.  Every woman secretly wants a knight in shining armor to rescue them and that is exactly what happens here.  I re-read this book and smile as I realize I have my own knight in shining armor aka MR N.

5-            Heathcliff/Catherine– Emily Bronte brings to life what it means to love another so much that not even death can separate you.  I first read this when I was fifteen and I have loved romances with tragic endings ever since.  There is something so alluring about Heathcliff and I have wanted someone to love me like that.  I have that with MR N without the whole death thing. Free on Amazon!

6-            Noah Calhoun/Allie Nelson– The Notebook is one of those love stories that stay with you.  Many people love the movie but for me, the book is much better.  The love shared between Noah and Allie is so strong that it surpasses anything else.  It always makes me cry but in a good way.

7-            Luke Brandon/Rebecca Bloomwood– Confessions of a Shopaholic is one of those fabulous contemporary romance books that can’t be put down. I love how fate keeps intervening and without even knowing it, Rebecca is head over heels in love.  Luke is a mystery to even the reader in the beginning but I love how he cares for her.

8-            Riley Parrish/Tanzy Harrington– Opposites attract and in this contemporary romance, we discover that Riley is not who he first appears to be.  He is not a sheep but a full-blown wolf in The Big Bad Wolf Tells All.  Tanzy is like me, doing her own thing and loving every minute of it.  Love blows her over and before she can recover, someone tries to kill her.

9-            Peter Pan and Wendy Darling– Yes I know this is a children’s book but it was the first love story I read growing up.  Imagine meeting a boy who makes all your dreams come true and takes you on great adventures. What could be better? Get it free on Amazon!

10-          Romeo and Juliet– This is one of the most recognized romantic couple on the planet but I still have a soft spot for them.  True love, no matter the consequences, will always make me swoon.  Sure, they both die in the end but William Shakespeare writes the most romantic words on record. Nothing can compare. 71 cents on Amazon!

What Fills Your Heart? #gratitude #love #ValentinesDay

Gratitude heart

I woke up this morning feeling heaping amounts of gratitude.  I am grateful for a roof over my head, food to eat and the unconditional love of MR N.  I am grateful for supportive and loving family/friends.  I am grateful for the ability to type words and for each of you!

What about you?  What are you grateful for?

Does your heart look like the one above?  Is gratitude the largest part of your heart?

Every person has a bad day, week, month, etc.  Heck, I woke up yesterday to snow on the ground and the coldest day of the year to date!  Once I got over the shock, I started thinking how grateful I was to have shelter.  I am one of the lucky ones.

The Walking Man (and other homeless like him) does not have shelter.  He is out there somewhere in my town huddled against a building or sleeping with a plastic tarp over him.  I pray that he finds shelter today and can stay warm.

What are you grateful for?  Is there some way you can spread love to someone in your town?

I bet you can! Even giving him/her a warm coffee or a smile will warm their insides and your kindness will be felt long after the coffee is gone!

This weekend is Valentine’s Day and while most people associate it with romance and romantic love, it’s a celebration of all forms of love. Be like Cupid and spread love through your actions. Smile, help someone less fortunate, offer assistance to someone in need, tell those you love how grateful you are they are in your life, etc.

MR N and I are staying inside all weekend, watching our favorite romantic movies, eating gourmet food (created by MR N, retired chef) and snuggling.

No matter what you’re doing, I hope you have an amazing weekend! If you’re feeling lonely, do something that brings you joy. If you’re surrounded by people, may you find happiness and peace.

❤ MRS N ❤

P.S. I will be away Friday through Monday. I will pop in here and there to approve comments.

Valentine Cookie Boxes1

Happy Valentine’s Day to all my amazing followers! I made these cookie boxes just for you!!! I love Valentine’s Day because it’s always a celebration of my two favorite things: food and love! I was asked by the lovely Irene Preston to be featured on her Foodie Friday event on her blog. I jumped at the chance because, hey, I love food!

What did I talk about? Valentine’s Day and creating a romantic steak dinner at home that would rival the best steak houses in the world! Of course, I did consult the chef himself, MR N. 🙂

Valentine' Day 2013

Valentine’s Day… a day dedicated to romantic love even though history tells another story.  According to history:

St. Valentine’s Day began as a liturgical celebration of one or more early Christian saints named Valentinus. Several martyrdom stories were invented for the various Valentines that belonged to February 14, and added to later martyrologies.   A popular hagiographical account of Saint Valentine of Rome states that he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire. According to legend, during his imprisonment, he healed the daughter of his jailer, Asterius. An embellishment to this story states that before his execution he wrote her a letter signed “Your Valentine” as a farewell.Today, Saint Valentine’s Day is an official feast day in the Anglican Communion,as well as in the Lutheran Church. The Eastern Orthodox Church also celebrates Saint Valentine’s Day, albeit on July 6 and July 30, the former date in honor of the Roman presbyterian Saint Valentine, and the latter date in honor of Hieromartyr Valentine, the Bishop of Interamna (modern Terni). In Brazil, the Dia de São Valentim is recognized on June 12.

The day was first associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. In 18th-century England, it evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as “valentines”). Valentine’s Day symbols that are used today include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards.

Bloodshed, healing, marriages, persecution, imprisonment.  A gruesome event and yet when you think of Valentine’s Day today, what comes to mind?  Flowers, chocolate, dinner, cupid and greeting cards.

When I first think of Valentine’s Day, my first thought is MR N.  (Single people, bare with me for a minute)  10 years ago today, MR N took me out for dinner at the restaurant he was working at and proposed to me.  He got down on one knee and said, “Miss N, will you be my wife, my partner and the love of my life now and forever…and in Heaven with a transfer?”  I smiled and said gleefully, “YES!”  He placed the ring on my left hand and the rest as they say is history. 🙂

MR N asked me to be his wife, something I had wanted to hear from the time I was a little girl playing with my Barbies.  But it wasn’t just the term wife that sealed it for me.  MR N knew everything about me, even my quirky and yet dark parts.  He loved everything about me and when I did something silly, he would just smile and call me cute.  He loved me for me and that is something that no amount of money on this great planet can buy.

Unconditional love.  It’s the purest form of love.  It’s meaning is simply loving another no matter what and not expecting anything in return.

I had not experienced that form of love until I met MR N.  It is the best example of Love and Light and I hope that each of you are filled with unconditional love!  Today and every day!

Okay, here’s a little message for all the single people out there: Don’t turn away from today just because you don’t have a romantic significant other.  I have been there.  I know how horrible it is to see all the couples, flowers, chocolates and little cupids running around.  Don’t think of today as “only for couples”.  Think of today as Unconditional Love Day!  Call a friend and tell them how much you cherish their friendship.  Call up someone you miss and tell them how much you miss them.  Thank the people in your life for being a part of your life.  Smile and be kind to strangers.  Go to your local Food Bank and donate time, money or food.  Spend a few minutes telling your children how special they are.  Hug your pet.

Saint Valentine was imprisoned in jail and yet had enough compassion and love to heal his jailer’s daughter.  THAT is unconditional love!  Let us honor St. Valentine today by being an army of Unconditional Angels and spreading love to all! 🙂
