Don’t Let Small Minds Dictate the Size of Your Dreams! #inspiration #WednesdayWisdom

dreams too big

Have you been told your dreams are too big?

I remember when I told my family I wanted to be a president when I was young. They patted me on the head and said, “That’s nice but you’ll need something to fall back on in case that doesn’t pan out.” Then they gave me some suggestions, which I won’t bother to repeat.

When I told MR N my dream of becoming a published author, his first response surprised me.

“Then let’s make it happen.”

No trying to talk me out of it, no patting on the head, no rolling of the eyes. Encouragement and support.

Listen, I’m a firm believer in having big dreams. The bigger, the better. Why so big? The greater the dream, the sweeter the victory of making my dream come true. It doesn’t matter to me anymore what people think of my dreams. It’s not their dream, it’s mine!

There’ll be small minds who’ll try to talk you out of your dreams. Don’t let them! They have a narrow perception and can’t see the future like you can.

What are some of your grand dreams?

Pack a bag and go after your dreams. Ignore the naysayers and if you can muster, pity them. I pity the fools who have small dreams, for they never know what it’s like to fly high and live amongst the clouds.

#WednesdayWisdom: Surround Yourself With People Who… #inspiration #grateful

surround yourself

Are you surrounded by people who love, motivate and encourage you?

In order to grow as a person, we need a nurturing environment. Think of yourself as a seedling and in order to grow into a productive plant/shrub/tree, you need sun, water and extra nutrients. Without that kind of supportive environment, you’ll wither and die.

When I was younger, I didn’t surround myself with positive, encouraging people. In fact, my so-called friends spewed negativity and brought me down. I couldn’t do anything right and was an embarrassment. It’s no wonder I had a low self-esteem.

It wasn’t until I distanced myself from these downers that I began to bloom. I replaced negative friends with positive buddies and you know what, my whole outlook changed. I started dreaming big dreams and the people around me supported me. In fact, they were my cheerleader squad! I tried a bunch of new things and spread my wings.

We all need a positive support system, a group of peers who’ll love, motivate and encourage us. They’ll hold us up when we falter and be our training wheels when we get back on our bicycle. Their unconditional love uplifts us to reach for the stars and celebrates when we reach success.

So again I ask: are you surrounded by people who love, motivate and encourage you?

If not, maybe it’s time to switch up the people you call your friends.

Our Human Compassion Binds Us so Express Love to Others! #inspiration #compassion #grateful

Compassion

Are you compassionate?

All humans have the capability of being compassionate.  Yet, so many humans do not.  They are consumed with their own lives and needs that they forget about helping out another human.

We need to infuse the world with compassion.  How???  Simply by showing compassion and extending a helping hand.

If you see someone hungry, feed them.  If you see someone fall down, help them up.  If you see someone needing shelter, give them shelter.  If you see someone feeling down, smile.

Try it today.  Showing compassion is another form of love, one which binds us one to the other. We’re no longer alone but brothers and sisters.

#WednesdayWisdom According to Winnie the Pooh #inspiration #affirmations #kindness

WTP Life Lesson

Which Hundred Acre character is most like you?

Winnie the Pooh is the dreamer, likes to eat honey and lives a simple life.

Piglet is small in stature but with a big heart. He loves his friends fiercely and is often afraid of the unknown.

Rabbit is the know-it-all. His knowledge is great and he’s all about order. He’s a big planner and when things go wrong, he doesn’t know what to do.

Eeyore is gloomy, looking at life as one big continuous bad day. He doesn’t ask for anything and finds great joy in rolling in leaves and eating thistles.

Tigger is the eternal optimist and loves bouncing on his tail. He’s also the risk-taker, going on big adventures and laughing a lot.

Kanga is the mother of the group, taking care of everyone. She’s kind, thoughtful and quiet.

Roo is the littlest one and tries to do/feel/taste all that life has to offer. It doesn’t matter to him that he’s small or can’t do something. He’s going to try, no matter what everyone else says. He’s lovable and he’s the embodiment of innocence.

I’m Winnie the Pooh. I love everyone and everything. I try to figure things out but when it gets too hard for my brain, I sit down with a pot of honey. lol!

Today’s inspirational thought is simple:

A little consideration,

A little thought for others,

Makes all the difference.

We can all take this advice and incorporate it into our lives.

Think before speaking. Show kindness. Love one another, even those you don’t care for. Help others when they need it, not when they ask for it.

See you in the Hundred Acre Woods. I’m off to meet up with Piglet, Tigger and Roo for an adventure.

Positive Attitude: A Sure-Fire Antidote to Negativity #inspiration #WednesdayWisdom

positive attitude

How’s your positivity meter?

Mine’s at an all-time high this morning. The sun is shining, the weather is warming up and MLB Opening Day is five days away.

Why am I so positive? The alternative is rather grave.

Yeah, I can hear the groans but the above statement is true. I’m proof-positive that staying happy and having a positive attitude, no matter what, is not only healthy but fun, too. I used to have wicked mood swings where I was either really high on life or down in the depths of despair. Trust me, it was not a good way to live.

So how did I become this bubbly, bright person?

I made a decision to look on the sunny side of things. No matter what was going on, I chose to look for the rainbow among the thunderclouds. Some days it was easy while other days it was like pulling teeth. I persevered and now I don’t even think about it. When negative people try to bring me down, I let loose my positive attitude. Needless to say, negativity doesn’t stand a chance. 😉

Negative attitude is like a virus and the only way to combat it is with positive thoughts and actions.

Embrace your inner Mr./Miss/Mrs. Sunshine and let the positivity flow. It’ll keep you young, healthy and happy. An added bonus is watching negativity flee. 😀

Are You Doing What You Are Meant to Do? #inspiration #WednesdayWisdom

odds life

Are you doing what you are meant to do?

We’re all blessed with certain amount of natural talents and abilities. Our hearts are wired to intuitively guide us to what we’re meant to do.

Ever since I was little, I’ve had a natural ability to write. Words flowed out of me faster than I could write them down. My heart urged me to pursue a career in writing but because there wasn’t a lot of money in it, I veered off-course. It wasn’t until after I married MR N and he got a promotion that I was able to write full-time.

Writing, for me, is my heart’s desire and it is what I’m meant to do. My passion for writing increases with time and I love it. I’m living my dream life and having the time of my life!

Don’t let the odds of being successful deter you from chasing after your dreams and doing what you’re meant to do. Sit down, make a plan to achieve it and then go after it. Life is too short to let indecision rule your heart. As Nike reminds us…

JUST DO IT!

#WednesdayWisdom: Every Action Vibrates in Eternity #inspiration #Irish #grateful

action irish

St. Patrick’s Day is this Friday so I thought it would be appropriate to feature inspiring quotes by Irish writers all week. Today’s inspiring quote is from Edwin Hubbel Chapin. While he did not live in Ireland, his family descended from Ireland.

Did you know that every action/thought in your life vibrates tenfold in the Universe?

Think about it for a minute. Every kind thought you have, every act of kindness you do, reverberates throughout the Universe creating a chain reaction. The same can be said for negative thoughts and actions. Whoa, that makes you feel very powerful, doesn’t it?

You and I are powerful creatures and with that power comes responsibility. We have the power to change lives for good or evil and our influence is most potent in the lives of our corner of the world. Through smiling and saying a compliment to the person serving us coffee or our co-workers, we’re starting a positive chain reaction. By giving of ourselves, we’re sewing seeds that’ll bloom into gratitude flowers which will spread joy to many.

Every action in our lives touches on some chord that will vibrate in eternity.

Spread kindness, gratitude and Light today and every day. Help one another and celebrate life. Encourage those who are struggling and rejoice in each other’s triumphs.

Without Faith, You’ll Never be Successful #WednesdayWisdom #inspiration #faith

faithful

Today is International Women’s Day and I dedicate this inspirational thought to women around the world.

What’s the #1 rule in achieving your dreams?

Have faith in your abilities and believe in yourself.

No matter where you come from or who you are, you’re a beautiful woman. You’re gifted with a combination of abilities that no one else has. You have dreams and the only thing holding you back is your fear. Let go of that fear and have faith. Success and happiness are within your reach.

Believe in yourself. Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers, you cannot be successful or happy.

Celebrate women today and every day!

Listen to Your Body and Take Care of Yourself! #WednesdayWisdom #Love #Health

What Can I Do?

My baby is sobbing in pain

What, God, can I do?

I’m helpless

My efforts in vain

I seek to comfort

To ease her.

I love her.

Please God, take this pain from her

Put it on me

I’ll suffer all for my love.

Just please, give her comfort

I’ll do anything for my love.

© 2016 Poetry of Love: The Engagement Year by N. N. Light, All rights reserved

Do you love your body? Do you take care of it with the same passion you take care of your family?

For several years, I took advantage of my body. I didn’t take care of it and certainly didn’t love it. I put it down, spewing hateful comments and despising myself. I didn’t fuel it with the right food yet expected it to perform like a F1 race car.

Your health and taking care of yourself should be top priority. Take it from me, I know. If you take proper care of your body, it will take care of you.

MR N wrote the above poem for me as I was dealing with a really bad cold. I was sick, couldn’t sleep and was miserable. He felt helpless and wanted to make me well. These are his thoughts, his emotions, his love for my health. It was at this moment, I realized I needed to take better care of myself.

Flash-forward thirteen years. It’s Love Weekend and I’m sick with a really bad cold. I’m feeling yucky and guilty for ruining our weekend. He holds me close and whispers loving words to me. He comforts me and I let his love for my health wash over me.

I take good care of myself and my health is very important to me. Why? Because it’s important to my beloved and thus, extremely important to me. I want to live a long life, with MR N, and the only way to secure that is to take care of my body.

How do I take care of my body?

I drink 3 litres of water a day, walk 4 times a week, eat healthy portions, make sure I get at least 7 hours of sleep a night and release stress in productive ways. I listen to my body, too. When it needs to rest, I rest. When it gets ansty for a walk, I walk. When it craves a certain food or drink, I indulge. My body and I are life-long partners and we take care of each other.

Are you taking care of your body? Do you listen to your body? What are some ways you love your body? Share in the comments below.

Best Friends: Walking the Path of Life Together #inspiration #love #grateful

febraury-love-month-graphic

On My Wedding Day (Wedding Vows)

On my wedding day, I’m honored to be here

In front of friends, family and God, with my soul mate by my side.

I often thought I’d walk the long road of life alone.

I was ready to give up on love, then the miracle happened, you can back to me.

Joelle, you’re my beautiful angel.

I’m so lucky and blessed this day, I’m marrying the girl of my dreams.

My heart’s beating so fast, I’m so full of love for you.

You’re my best friend, my soul mate, my life partner, for now and eternity.

I just want to thank you for being mine.

And thank God for letting me have this, my perfect dream come true.

You, Joelle, as my wife.

I love you.

© 2016 Poetry of Love: The Engagement Year by N. N. Light, All rights reserved

Best friends are one of life’s greatest treasures.

We’ve all had best friends, those people who know all our faults and love us anyway. They’re there for us in time of need, whether it is to hold us when we cry or laugh with us at something amusing.

I remember in high school I had a best friend. Her name was Beth. She and I became best friends in the 11th grade. She was a very popular girl and I … wasn’t. I was shy and more of the quiet, creative, brainy type. But that didn’t matter to her. We didn’t hang out with her friends or mine; we hung out together. I slept over at her house quite a bit and she drove us to school in the morning.

She was having trouble with something (forgive me for not recalling what it was exactly) and I was trying to encourage her. She turned to me on the couch and said, “You know you’re my best friend, right?”

I nodded and smiled.

“You’re mine, too.”

“I’ve never met anyone like you before,” she spoke softly. “You’d love me, even if I confessed to you that I pooped in my bed.”

“Sure,” I began. “Just don’t ask me to clean it up.”

We laughed and went back to the show we were watching.

That’s what best friends do. We love each other, no matter what.

I’m so lucky because when I met MR N, we became friends first. We soon became best friends and then fell in love. MR N is my best friend and even though we’re married, I know I can confess my hidden feelings/thoughts and he won’t judge me. He loves me, warts and all.

Whether your best friend is your mate or someone else, give them a hug and tell them:

I love you!

#WednesdayWisdom: Mind Your Own Biscuits and Life Will Be Gravy #inspiration

kasey-biscuits

I’m a big fan of Kasey Musgraves and a lyric from one of her songs really resonates with me.

“Mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy.”

In the song, she talks about how people need to do their own thing and not be so concerned about other people’s business.

We can all relate to this, can’t we?

There’s always people in our circle of influence (family, friends, neighbors, etc.) who seem to stick their nose in everyone’s business. They may say they’re only being helpful but in all reality, they’re being nosy.

A simple life motto, this lyric is, isn’t it?

Mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy.

I’m going to adopt this motto for my own life. I’m minding my own biscuits and life is pretty delicious!

Join me and get ready to savor life!

A Holiday Wish for You: Peace on Earth #holidays #Christmas #inspiration

christmas-wish-potl

May this very holy time of the year fill your hearts with hope and wonder.  Your name is on the lips of angels and you are more cherished in Heaven than all the riches in the world.

Please listen to this beautiful song, “I Heard the Bells On Christmas Day”, and be inspired:

(Lyrics below)

1. I heard the bells on Christmas day

Their old familiar carols play,

And wild and sweet the words repeat

Of peace on earth, good will to men.

2. I thought how, as the day had come,

The belfries of all Christendom

Had rolled along the unbroken song

Of peace on earth, good will to men.

3. And in despair I bowed my head

‘There is no peace on earth,’ I said,

‘For hate is strong and mocks the song

Of peace on earth, good will to men.’

4. Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:

‘God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;

The wrong shall fail, the right prevail

With peace on earth, good will to men.’

5. Till ringing, singing on its way

The world revolved from night to day,

A voice, a chime, a chant sublime

Of peace on earth, good will to men.

Peace on Earth… let us shine our Light so peace can reign on Earth!

You’ve Gotta Live in the Moment… Today’s a Special Gift! #inspiration #WednesdayWisdom

gift-ditka

Are you living in the moment?  Do you see today as a gift or are you focused on the past?

A friend of mine is going through a rough time.  He emailed me yesterday and was at the end of his rope.  He was focusing on the past and all that had happened to him.

I asked him, “Are you focusing on today or on the past?”

He didn’t answer me but I knew the answer.  He’s so focused on all the heartache of the past, he’s missing the present.

Have you ever done that?

I’ve focused solely on the past hurts that I almost missed out on life’s gifts.  I was miserable until I refocused myself.  When I focus on today and all that it has to offer, I see the miracle of life.

Focus on today.  It only comes along once and it is the best present you will ever receive!

‘Tis the Season to be Stressed: Find Your Joy #inspiration #holidays #HolidayStress

‘Tis the season to be stressed.

A lot of people get stressed out during the holidays. There are gifts to buy for, parties to attend, children’s activities to plan, dinners to organize and end of the year work stress. The list goes on and on, not to mention illnesses circulating in schools and work.

I get it. In fact, just yesterday I was feeling stressed out. I have a lot going on and the days are slipping through my fingers, like sand. My pulse quickened and my mind started to spin with all I have to do in the next 17 days.

How do I handle the stress?

I stare at our beautiful Christmas tree. I focused on the lights and the ornaments. My breathing slows down and I smile.

I love Christmas and that, in itself, is a stress reducer. The lights, the tree, the music and movies are all things I look forward to all year. So, when it’s here, I try to balance the stress with the spirit of Christmas.

How do you deal with stress?

Comment below.

Focus on what matters and remember to breathe. I’m a big proponent of breathing. Your health may just depend on it.

#Thanksgiving Reminds Us to Give Thanks and Count Our Blessings #inspiration #WednesdayWisdom

thanksgiving-2016

How many blessings can you count?

American Thanksgiving is tomorrow and while we have already celebrated our Thanksgiving up here in Canada, MR N and myself would like to invite you to our table. We’ve saved a place at our table for you (see picture above).

Now that everyone is seated, let’s go around the table, give thanks and count our blessings. Counting our blessings is a superb way to not only think positive but with a  clear perspective. Life’s challenges seem a little bit smaller when we concentrate on how many blessings we have. I’ll start:

  1. I’m alive. You may laugh but I have gone through many close calls and am blessed to be alive.
  2. Roof over my head and food to eat. So many people in America and Canada are hungry and don’t have enough food to eat. We’re proud to donate to our local food bank/pantry and we’re doing our part to end hunger.
  3. Unconditional love. MR N is my rock and the love of my life. He taught me the true meaning of love. Together, we travel through this great, big world and nothing can stop us.
  4. Family and Friends. I am blessed beyond belief to have an extended family and friends network who love me for me and their support is amazing.
  5. Online Family/Friends/Followers. Through the internet, I have such a wide group of like-minded people who support me, my writing, this blog, our author promotions business and so much more. This includes everyone reading this post: THANK YOU!
  6. Health and Wellness. There have been times when my health was unstable and my spiritual wellness was a code blue. I’m thankful for my health (both physical, emotional and spiritual) and never take it for granted.
  7. Laughter and Sense of Humor. I’m so blessed to have a funny bone and to be able to laugh at myself. Humor has been my stress-buster for neigh on forty years and I’m so grateful to everyone who has made me chuckle, laugh and chortle.
  8. Where I Live. I’m blessed to live in a free country where I can speak my mind and no one is going to murder me for walking down the street. I pray for all those who are in jeopardy.
  9. Faith/Spirituality. I’m so blessed to have a strong faith and every day I’m thankful I can share the Light with everyone.
  10. A Father’s Love. I’m blessed to have a father to loves me so much, even from Heaven. My father passed away in 1998 but I still feel his presence as he hugs me.
  11. My Creativity. I’m an artist and I love to create. Whether it’s stories, baked goods, inspirational thoughts of encouragement, I create. It gives me such joy.
  12. Collection of Books/Movies/Music. I’m so blessed to have quite a massive collection of books, movies and music. No matter what’s going on, I can close my eyes and escape.

It’s your turn now. Share a few of your blessings in the comments below.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!

Give Thanks to Those Who Rekindle Your Fire #inspiration #grateful #WednesdayWisdon

thankful-spirit-rekindle

Every once in awhile, our inner fire (Light) dims and almost appears to go out. The darkness surrounds us and we’re not sure what to do. We’re feeling sad, depressed, just plain discouraged. Then, a brief encounter happens and that person’s fire (Light) rekindles our own.

I’ve had this happen on several occasion but the most recent one was a brief encounter with author C. S. Boyack. I was working with him on a character interview. I decided to have it be Lisbeth (big bad from Princess of the Light). My writing fire had dimmed and I wasn’t writing. In fact, I had almost ditched the whole series. C. S. ignited something inside me and I’m happy to report that I’m back to writing book two in the Princess of the Light series.

I’ve already thanked and thanked him for his help. He told me to stop or else his head wouldn’t fit through the front door. lol!  I’m so grateful to him (just silently) and others like him.

I bet you have a few people who have rekindled your inner fire at just the right time. Take a moment and reach out to them. Share your gratitude and say thanks.

We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.

Are You Dealing With Rejection or Are You Being Re-Directed? #inspiration #WednesdayWisdom

rejected-redirected

Rejection. It’s something we all deal with but what if we’re not being rejected but re-directed instead?

As an author, I’ve had my share of rejection. I have an email folder dedicated to all those industry professionals who rejected my writing. At the time of the rejection, I was crushed. I thought my life was over and I might as well give up.

But as I look back on it now, I know it was the Universe leading me to where I am today. I’m a successful author with four books published and more on the way. 😉

As a woman, I was rejected by several men (for various reasons). If they hadn’t rejected me, I never would’ve met and fallen in love with MR N.

Have you encountered a road block and are feeling the sting of rejection? It could be a re-direction to put you on the right path.

As I look back on my life, I realize that every time I thought I was being rejected from something good, I was actually being re-directed to something better.

When Was the Last Time You Were Kind to Yourself? #inspiration #kindness #WednesdayWisdom

When was the last time you were kind to yourself?

I talk a lot about being kind to others but today I’m urging you to be kind to yourself.

For me, I’m the first one to be kind to others but I’m my own worst critic. I make a mistake and in frustration, I beat myself up.

Today, I’m going to be kind to myself. I’m not going to be mean-spirited or berate myself.

Who’s with me?

Be nice to yourself. It’s hard to be happy when someone is mean to you all the time.

Worry is a Waste of Time and Doesn’t Change Anything! #inspiration #WednesdayWisdom

worry-waste-of-time

Is your stomach tied in knots and you’re not sleeping?

Worrying about something or someone is a total waste of time.

WAIT! Before you shut off this message, hear me out.

I’m a worrier and my first instinct is to worry when something happens. I worry about a lot of things and I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Worrying about something/someone hasn’t helped me one bit. In fact, most of the time, all it does is make me feel miserable and makes it worse.

  1. Instead of worrying, meditate about the situation. Release your death grip on it and let the Universe take over.
  2. Breathe… yes, breathing is important too. Take several deep breaths and mentally tell yourself it’s going to be okay.
  3. Smile, you’re living your life and have many blessings. Take out a piece of paper of write down all you’re grateful for. Don’t hold back.

Worry is a total waste of time. It doesn’t change anything. All it does is steal your joy and keep you very busy doing nothing.

What do you do to combat worry? Share in the comments below.

Is Your Self-Doubt Blasting Your Brain’s Speakers So That’s All You Hear? #inspiration #wisdom

opportunity-self-doubt-station

We’ve all heard the saying, “Opportunity Knocks”, but are we able to hear it?

Over the past year, I’ve had opportunities knocking. Some I’ve heard and responded while others I haven’t heard because my self-doubt is cranked up to 110.

When I turn down my self-doubt (haven’t figured out how to turn that station off yet), I try new things and grow as a person. Opportunities flood the airwaves and I’m singing happy love songs.

How do you turn down your self-doubt?

For me, it’s as simple as sticking out my tongue at it and ignoring it. Ignore fear? YES! When I start to hear my self-doubt spewing depressing lyrics, I close my eyes and sing five positive lyrics about myself.

Does it work?

You bet!

Opportunity is knocking and in order to hear it, you have to silence your self-doubt!

Is Today a Bad Day? Keep Moving Forward! #inspiration #WednesdayWisdom

This week I’ve been dealing with a pretty bad injury. Even small things, like walking to the kitchen, takes some effort. But I keep going. Why? Because tomorrow’s gotta be better.

Is today a bad day?

I know you’re struggling and you feel like giving up. I’ve been there and today, all I want to do is crawl into bed and sleep the day away. But I have work to do and so do you.

Keep the faith and keep going.

The amazing truth is that when this wretched day is finally over, tomorrow is a brand new day. Tomorrow could be the best day ever!

You’ll never know for sure what tomorrow holds unless you keep moving forward.

So, follow my lead and push through today the best you can. I am. 🙂
